I bought at 12:00 and got both challenge completed so I guess no?

    • +1

seems like those that bought 2 gift cards tracked both bonus correctly, but those that only bought one only received the $5 regardless of the amount they purchased

    • +1

And just to clarify I only got the $5. Missed the $15 by the time the second one was put through.

So I feel like the $5 tracking should have occurred on my first purchase - even if I missed the $15 on due to being slower than everyone else. Which is why I'm wondering about the 00:00 ones being off (at least in my observation).

    • +3

Yeah no way… I ordered a $25 superswap within 10 seconds after midnight. No $15 bonus.
Now the challenge say "You almost got it, but other participants claimed all the rewards before you completed this challenge.

Doesn't seem like I'll be getting it… 500+ ordered within 10 seconds or it was given to someone else due to processing delay?

      • Same. I did another $15 ebay one and pretty sure that is the one that got the $5. My first order got stuck in pending and the email for that voucher came through at 5am??

  • +1

Same.. Clicked through at 12am exactly and bought 30$ Amazon voucher, only got the 5$ bonus…

  • +4

Same here too, I bought straight after midnight. Base was tracked in seconds. $5 bonus only came 12 mins later.

    No $15 bonus either

  • +3

I could also see the claim counter going up after I purchased with 100s still to go, but still missed out the $15 bonus after purchasing a $15 ebay gift card.
The separate $5 bonus on a $5 ebay gift card worked without a hitch…

  • +1

Same, I bought right after the challenge started and only got the $5 bonus. My wife bought it a few seconds later and got both bonus though :(

    • Hey mate, would you mind sending me a DM with your and your wife's ShopBack email addresses? I'm taking the issue to our tech team to take a look at the tracking for this one and this kind of info would be super useful, but all good if not.

  • -1

    Thanks both tracked.

    Bought 3x $5 superswap then 1x $5 superswap.

  • +12

Joining in on the chorus of people who got the $5 but not $15 bonus when we logged in and bought at midnight AEDT on the dot. Bought a $25 Superswap and a $5 Superswap.

  • +1

    Thanks op, both $15 and $5 tracked…worked like a breeze. 👍

  • +1

Bought via shop now button at the very start of the event and only got $5 tracked. Click history shows 26 Dec 00:00 and order completed email shows purchase date as 26 Dec 12:00am though the order completed email came 12:06am. After purchase completed I went back to the event page and only a few spots claimed from the progress bar and I thought I was super quick but only $5 tracked?

    • But my transaction successful email says purchase date 2022-12-25. Did I miss out because I was too quick?

      • +1

the email with the $5 bonus tracked also says 25/12, so I don't think it's that

      • +1

The email is wrong and so technically you shouldn't have got the 5 dollar cashback either. The app and probably your Westpac payment says the 26th Dec. Shopbacks system stuffed up and penalised the early payers. Shonky as hell.

  • I bought an Ubereats GF and noticed it took longer than usual to process and give me the GF details.

Noticed from comments above, quite a few who bought a SB Super Swap GF managed to get the $15 bonus.

So could also be the GF store that was purchased in determining processing speeds.

  • -6

Shopback are scammers and we'll known to play tricks to get max people make the purchase… I bought the $15 gift card and got the $15 bonus then logged into my wife's account when I checked how many rewards had been claimed, it was still showing about 100 left so immediately went and purchased $15 on wife's account but didn't get the $15 bonus.

    • Far out mate, you literally got given free money and want to whinge about it and call shopback scanners 🙄

      • Big shock they’ve never shared a deal either haha

      • +1

The point here is not about free money but the tricks they play. They might have given some free money but made 100 more times of that by not clearly and accurately indicating whether the deal was on or had been claimed. Just giving money does make someone a saint.
Haven't you read the comments here that a lot of people who bought right on the dot at 12.00 am didn't get the bonus whereas people who purchased minutes later got it. How is all that possible?

  • +3

I got the $15 bonus despite being relatively slow. Everyone else is talking about a "counter," but I didn't see a counter. At 12:00 the offer I was looking at disappeared, so I just went through the Westpac Lounge and bought a $15 ebay card the usual way. I wonder if that had something to do with it?

Where was the counter? I've never bought a gift card through the app so I didn't really know what I was doing.

    • +1

Check challenges, under ongoing challenges. It counts up

  • +2

Bought a 25$ super swap at 0:00, it was taking too long to track so I bought a 30$ amazon afterwards too and then it got tracked. Idk if it is related at all.

  • +6

Haven't been fan of Shopback's change to a 'race' system vs a 'reserve' system when it comes to challenges.

I get that some people might reserve the spot and never actually make use of the challenge, so why not let those who come later and will use it take a spot. But for these low number ones they might be better off labelled as a competition

The $5 10000 cap one was still a nice consolation prize, but but I just think it's walking the line of doing things fairly when you a) give people the impression they have activated the challenge yet can still miss out and b) your system UI doesn't keep up with a faced pace challenge like this.

    • +6

I agree. the SB way, despite SB still pay the same amount and people do get a discount, a lot of people feel cheated and form a negative opinion. I think CR does it a lot better - first to opt in, then have a set amount of time to purchase. You know right from the start whether you got it or not, rather than it being a full gamble.

SB could easily implement something like a timed waitlist (e.g. like Amazon flash sales) or a second round where after 1 hour or however long, any unclaimed spots become open again for a rerun etc.

      • +2

Yeah I assume CR just recycles the unused spots into the next day/week/month offers budget.

Another one is how Prezee has a dedicated gift card for a bonus offer, so once that type sells out, no one else can miss out thinking they are getting the bonus offer.

  • In Qld forgot re time differences

  • +3

Me and my wife both clicked exactly at 12. 500 to go was showing when we clicked the shop button, made purchases but $15 hasn’t tracked for either of us.

  • +4

Welp, I hope SB has got their research from this and adjust their future Westpac deals accordingly.

Their $3/$30 and $12/$100 eBay GC deals weren't fully claimed, nor was the $5/$50 Super Swap GC deal.

500 slots is not enough for 100% cashback deals even when limited to Westpac card holders, I don't know how good that initial rush of purchases looks on paper but you're going to get a lot of complaints and unhappy customers.

    • -2

You're not wrong mate. I jumped through their BS hoops to find out what gift cards were on offer (as it didn't show what was on offer when signing up) after they sold out after 1 minute and found out it was only 500 entries. With 2000 people at the time I clicked on that button to be eligible. Could have easily given away to everyone that signed up for that offer but nah they chose to do it for 500 bots and people with precision timing tapping random gift cards to buy. Definitely deleting my Westpac card off their website. Going to complain to Westpac for even stouping so low to be involved or affiliated with a poorly ran app and organisation. Can't believe I bank with Westpac. Haha.

  • +2

Definitely need better app functionality to handle such challenges. At 12 03 it was still showing available and people like me refreshed 3 4 times to see if status changes before buying..

Only 5mins after I bought on my and wife's account the status changed to fully claimed… Pretty sure I won't get any Cashback….

  • +6

    [O/T] Completely new to Westpac.
What the hell is up with Westpac not allowing a complex password longer than 6 characters?

  • Thanks GYB. Got the $5 bonus.

  • Only got $5 bonus… Like others thought I was very quick although paid debit card and super swap which seems wasn't the best shout.

Anyways $5 is $5 won't lose any sleep over it thanks team

  • I only just created this account just to say this offer is straight g@rbage. Signed up and by midnight the entire $15 offer was snapped up by the small 500 spots wasted my time setting up my Westpac details and I even followed the steps prior to be eligible, but what's the point clicking on the enrollment button just to get no where? Shouldn't be expecting people to click on a button only to miss out to bots and people tapping that purchase button in under 1 minute. I also find it comical that the rep is called gotyourback yet my back ain't got when this sale was poorly ran. Literally took 1 minute for everyone to snap up all the $15 off gift cards. Shopback is a waste of time just like Westpac. Thumbs down.

    • +2

That's not true because exactly I and my wife successfully grabbed $5 and $15 eBay gift cards and got cash back.
I started at exactly midnight and took 2 minutes and everything worked for me.

      • Don't care mate, Westpac were shilling these guys like the latest and greatest thing. Good for you that you managed to get it without having issues with the app. When I logged in 30 minutes prior it literally got no where once it struck midnight. It is utter g@rbage. But congratulations on being one of the poxy 500 offers they had on the table when a measly couple thousand Westpac customers registered their interest and could have easily honoured everyone and actually retained potential new customers for future purchases on their g@rbage application/website. But I digress. Congrats on the $15 but don't tell me it's not true and don't insinuate that I'm lying. 500 people is a drop in the water when a couple thousand people enrolled and their app couldn't handle the traffic. Other people in these comments literally say similar things to me. SMH

        • I think, I and my wife never used ShopBack so that might be the reason they gave more chances to new accounts to grab it.

What I did, I already added my Westpac card and exactly 12 I just clicked on Westpac Icon in the app and it shows me a $5 and a $15 banner so I just clicked on the $15 banner and first eBay gift card then paid.

          • @[Deactivated]: Mine was a new account also. Literally followed the steps via the Westpac app signed up followed all the steps. It bugged out. Apologies if I've come off rude. Just irritating when you go through the trouble and this sales person is trying to advertise something that never worked or it worked but so poorly it shouldn't even be on here for supposed "bargains" when no bargain is to be offered.

            • +2

@Kendawg: But it did work for 500 people though? It's just you missed out and got the "consolation" prize of $5 which is still more savings than your usual 10/15% off giftcard if you've bought a $15 gift card.

      • That's the issue right here, some like me who purchased within a few seconds after the challenge started didn't get the $15 cashback.

    • +1

If you didn't hit the first 500 you didn't hit the first 500. Given this deal had 200+ upvotes (from users who had an ozbargain account I.e. Not folk like yourself) definitely expectation that this would be competitive. Maybe ozbargain needs to reclassify their "minimum quantity" for these kinds of deals (which tend to be more of a competition)

Irrespective the $5 off is an excellent deal.

      • +2

It's all conjecture at this point. Let's wait for @gotyourback to investigate further.

Someone commented above their partner checked out after them and only the partner got the $15, so it does appear somethings gone wrong for early buyers. I checked out within 10 seconds of turning 12. End of day it was first 500 from midnight not a lottery across all those that queued and purchased. I trust shop back will do right by us.

        • +1

          This essentially was a lottery though… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13159819/redir

First 500 that were lucky to have their gift card processed in time perhaps.

          • +3

@MiscOzB: Not what the T&Cs say though. First 500 to redeem not first 500 to process.

            • @scar4ace: Agreed. System captured the transaction time so that isn't hard to check.

        • Unless I’m missing something there has been no explanation here but there has been on the Amazon one that went pear shaped. When click activity shows midnight and you get $5 and people post how they got $15 purchasing minutes later then something if off.

      • I was in westpac lounge and queued before midnight, once clock turned, the queue banner become available, then I clicked the $15 bonus banner bought $30 Amazon GC. It took a while before it's all tracked.

        • +2

I did the same for super Swap - tracked within seconds but no $15 bonus.

  • +7

Can we get some clarity on how the queue system actually works?

Feeling like this deal was set up as a gamble for the $15, and if you missed out you got a $5 consolidation prize.

  • +3

    @gotyourback
When you are free, is there a way to check if my order was actually the first 500?

My receipt say Purchased date: 26 Dec 2022, 12:00AM. Pretty sure I ordered within 10 seconds.

  • Can we use Paypal given the card linked to Paypal is a Westpac?

    • No. And you can't buy gc with PayPal on the shopback app anyway.

      • I'm refering to the 10% cashback on selected stores. e.g. chemist warehouse

        • +2

See the t&c in the Westpac lounge

Purchases made using online payment methods such as PayPal, where ShopBack is not able to identify whether an eligible card was used at the merchant checkout, will not qualify for Westpac bonus Cashback (even where an eligible card is linked e.g. to the PayPal account).

  • 2% cashback came through in seconds
$5 bonus came through 13 minutes later.
So if your just purchasing don't worry if it isn't instant & Thanks GYB

  • +3

Shopback shall not run this promo if they can't handle it. Looks like there was a glitch in 500 rewards claimed. Long after I finished my purchase 500 rewards were still showing available then it was reduced to 263 - have screenshots so eagerly waiting that how @gotyourback manages this mess.

  • Bought a pair of Adidas 8am this morning with my Westpac card, neither the standard cashback nor the bonus cashback has been tracked yet.

    • did you click through via shopback? LOL

      • ha, luckily I got the screenshot, will wait and see, haven’t requested missed-cashback for ages, maybe that’s why……..

  • +2

    Crickets. Tumbleweeds.

  • +1

Took a screenshot showing rewards were still left, purchased a $25 giftcard, took another screenshot after saying rewards were still left … no bonus has tracked so far.

    • @gotyourback could you please take a look at this one?

      • No $15 bonus tracked for me but had it all activated.

Still waiting on someone from ShopBack to respond to my email.

  • Until this is resolved I didn't use shopback at all for any of their other promos, $5 Amazon, 10% etc.

Complaining to Westpac directly might get shopback to pay more notice, the silence from shopback here is deafening.

I tried going through SB automated help - Sparky - but just went round in circles.

    • Hey mate, I'm taking a look into this now, I've flagged the potential delay issues with this one with the team to take a look at, I will say over 2500 users were queued for this one so given the jam of users redeeming at midnight, it's definitely likely that a lot of users will have missed out. However, in terms of knowing exactly how the tracking works for Westpac purchases and if any processing delays could have caused some extra strife here, I'm doing my absolute best to look into it.

      • +2

        Hey, thanks, any update?

If you can honestly confirm there were more than 500 purchases before 00:00:15 then I'll accept it and move on.

At this stage based on the fact the counter started dropping after my purchase (and incrementally not all at once) and other comments here where partners/friends who purchased after got the bonus $15, it really seems there has been an issue on your side.

Saying there were 2500+ people queue and lots of traffic is fine but it could just be a cop out, particularly based on experienced mentioned by users here.

Did 500 people really purchase in the first 10 seconds at midnight?
I'll move on it's just $15 and I'll use that voucher anyway but I honestly feel there's been a hiccup here and it would be good for shopback to resolve it for those who purchased in good faith.

        • +1

So far, all of the users I've seen who have redeemed this redeemed at 00:00, so it doesn't appear like users who redeemed were able to redeem late, I haven't been ale to find any issue that could have caused this and am still working with the team on this one. I'm sorry for the radio silence on this one, I'm doing what I can behind the scenes to try and help users here, but so far it does look like this was more a display issue on the remaining rewards, more so than a technical delay in processing causing trouble.

I'm still very much working on this to try and see if there's anything I can do here, will update ASAP.

  • +4

Hey all, I'm hearing the frustration about the $15 Bonus here, and do apologise that this has leftsome with a sour taste having shopped at midnight but still missing out. From our end it does look like this one was redeemed by a lot of users bang on midnight, which will have made tracking the redemptions challenging, so I'm investigating with our tech team about this to see if we can diagnose any roadblocks that might have caused trouble here.

I do ask that any users that have instances where they or their partner shopped at 12:01 or later and received the $15 Bonus reach out to me, I'd love to see if there was a genuine delay here or if this was just a case of the Bonus selling out quicker than our display system could keep up.

I will also be asking if any future bonuses that have a small user cap can be limited by Opt-Ins instead of Redemption where possible to save the mad rush of users and disappointment when purchasing and yet missing out.

Thanks again for your ongoing patience all, hope you're having a great end of year.

    • +2

Relative shopped after 00:01 and received both $5 and $15 bonus. I have seen screenshots. It took less than 5 mins to track both bonus. Ours took more than 13 mins to track and received only $5 bonus although we put through our transactions earlier. However relative doesn't have a ozbargain account. Thought to let you know as it might be helpful for your investigation. Relative paid by credit card and we paid by debit card.

Also I took acreenshot before I made my purchase and at that moment there was only less than a quarter of the 500 claimed otherwise I wouldn't have bought $15. My parter put through transaction at 00:00 and received only $5.

      • Hey mate, I've replied to your message about this if you have a moment to take a look, still happy to investigate this with some more info.

    • Only got the $5 bonus:(. Purchased a few seconds past the hour when many $15 slots were showing. Normal cashback was tracked in 4 mins, slots were still showing available after 9mins. Got the $5 bonus notification at approx 15mins. It would be helpful to know if the cashback is available before you submit the payment as it seemed there were still slots available from what I could see.

  • Challenge cashback ($15 & $5) is now redeemable.

    • Ditto

  • My $15 bonus was not tracked despite the screenshot and enrolment prior. Also the virtual assistant says cashback is not available so only the 2% bonus.

If I had known, I should've just stayed with CashRewards.

  • It seems that there is still no response from Shopback. Has anyone lodge a claim and received $15 successfully? Thanks.

    • Hey mate, still working on getting some more information on this, from all I can see this was caused by a display delay in the redemptions, all of the users I've found who redeemed purchased at bang-on midnight so I haven't been able to see any delay in the processing that could have caused any issues. I'm working on seeing what I can do to assist here, haven't forgotten about this at all.

      • No worries. Thanks for letting us know. Take your time. Hope you get to the bottom of it. It just weird. In my partner's case transaction was captured straight away at 00:00. But mine was captured a few minutes later although my transaction was put through very quickly too. Doesn't make sence. Still think it has something to do with bank's side but happpy to be wrong.

  • GYB hasn’t been responding to my messages for over a week now. Different problem tho. Messaged him on Boxing Day and no reply

    • +3

Hey mate, sorry I haven't gotten back to you as yet, I've had 80-100~ DMs in my inbox over last week due to me taking just a few days off over the holiday period and have been doing my best to catch up. I'll get back to you ASAP, but just as an aside, if you DM again to follow up, often it pushes your message to the top of the queue in my Inbox which can push back my reply a bit more. I'm not ignoring you mate, just got a lot of the community to help out and doing my best.

  • Interesting! Just received notification that $15 cashback was now pending.

I never followed up and chalked it up as too slow/delay in credit card authorisation. Thanks GYG!

  • +1

Seems like they paid out $15 out of goodwill. $15 never tracked as it was marked as completed/finished. Nice little surprised had to so some digging to find where the $15 was from.

  • Also got notification of tracking. Thanks SB and GYB

  • Thanks and kudos to Shopback and GYB for following this one through. Also got a surprise $15 track from Boxing Day.
