    • i think biggest positive from a ALR screen is you can open all your windows and image is still good. otherwise you be in a dark room all the time and it cause eye issues

    • +1

How are dark scenes from ust, any chance of a pic of a dark scene from a movie/show from the ust?

      • @branners

      • Sorry, did not see this until this morning.
Not sure how to post a pic I took to make it look as 'bad' as possible, a deliberately low-contrast and dim scene, taken mid-afternoon with half the windows open in my lounge/TV room. It does not photograph well, the image is actually a lot more watchable than this and as I said earlier, especially later in the day.
        Advice welcome

  • how much are screens for these things?

    • 700-2k+

      • Considering the ALR screen is expensive ($1,995 + $2k = close to $4k), I agree with some of the above post, if you plan to get the screen in now or in short term, it might be worth to get 100L9GSET (Screen and higher end Trichoma projector) - TGG $4,495 and Videopro $4,150 + Delivery

  • I would not consider it as it's not bright enough compare with normal led tv, unless you make the room dark.

    • +4

If 120” LED TVs were under $2000, I probably wouldn’t be so damn tempted to buy this either.

      • +2

and not everyone wants a 70kg TV on the wall

    • @m9sman…..or you have a UST Screen.

  • Contrast
Does anybody know the contrast ratio of hisense?
    Samsung premiere have 2,000,000:1

    Brightness
This unit has brightness of 2100 ANSI lumens, less than competitors, could this be a problem in slightly dark room ?

    Comparing to other
    UST
    Samsung LSP7T has 2200 A.L (slightly more expensive at $2,999), LSP9T and formovie theatre has 2800 A.L. ($5k)

    Non UST
    Optoma UHD35 has 4000 A.L. (similar price at $1,899)

    • +3

You wouldn't notice 100 lumens difference. Around 400 or more extra lumens becomes a significant benefit. Always remember the ANSI lumens are the only real lumens and will always be lower than the hyper inflated and totally fabricated 'Chinese Lumens'.

2100/2200 is enough in a room with some ambient light if you use a proper UST screen.

Doest look like any stock anywhere.

Has it got triple laser or single laser?

  • Any tips here on mounting a UST screen in a rented property? What are the wall hardware requirements? I’m really not familiar with what it would take to remove and conceal holes etc.

Just stick to a free standing OLED unit, or is this simple work to undo?

    • I'd personally grab an oled in your situation mate. Be a huge stuff around with all the projector stuff especially in a rental. If you move to your own place eventually I'd look into a home theatre setup.

    • +1

The screens are relatively light. You won’t need to hit the stud to hang it. So a good plaster wall plugs will do, and it’s a relatively small hole to patch later.

Wouldn’t do more damage to the wall than a few small 5c coin holes after removing the fixings.

      • Thanks mate. I’m watching YouTube vids on paint matching and drywall drilling now, eg https://youtu.be/bLbUIevOxzY

Seems like a lot out there! I missed the deal but it seems like a set of skills and knowledge worth getting on top of

    • +2

Don't be put off of considering a projector in a rental. I've had projectors in rentals for over 20 years. And mine were long throw projectors which are not as easy to install temporarily as a UST. The UST projector is easy, just sitting under the screen. The screen can be hung on as little as 2 small 'L' brackets which screw into the wall. With a big 120 inch screen you can drill into the studs because the brackets don't have to be in any particular horizontal place, just far enough apart that the screen will have support somewhere on each side at the rear of the top of the frame. Drilling into studs means you can use small diameter screws which leave small holes for easier touching up when you leave (I'm sure there are thousands of YouTube vids on touching up screw holes). The brackets just need to be level so your screen is level when you place it on them.

    • It's a pain to conceal holes, you have to plaster over, sand, and then repaint the whole wall.

Get a freestanding TV. Or do what I do, just use a bare wall.

I can't get good brightness during daylight hours on sunny days, but if you only watch stuff on it at night, like most people, it's more than bright enough.

Size matters a lot more than a little extra brightness.

So who has the link to the cheapest 120" ALR screen?

  • +1

I have xioami UST 4k laser projector at 150 inches projecting onto white paint colour "Lexicon" Which has a hint of black in it and supposedly helps with picture quality. I love it and think the picture and colours are fantastic. Is it as good as an OLED LG TV? No i dont think so but for me I get a monster 150 inches and the differences in quality are negligable. Can't speak for the Hisense one as have not seen it in action but a huge fan of UST Laser projectors overall and for the price and brand if you have been thinking about it I would just go for it.

    • Jeez now I want a 150 inch projector, how much was your Xiaomi?

      • Its not about the price anymore. Its how big your wall or your house is :p

  • If anyone desperately wants one I purchased this today (still unopened) and will potentially part with it. Purchased impulsively so may or may not keep it.

      • 😅😅😅

        • @Skallywagzzz is it still available??

          • @danjmlee: I’ve opened it at this stage now unfortunately but would still consider parting with it

    • Hey @Skallywagzzz - turn on your DMs via My Account > Settings > messaging > tick allow private messages > Save preferences

Will be happy to grab if your impulses got the better of you - my dad needs a 60th present and I'm in the area :D

      • @Skallywagzzz actually you can just DM me, I've enabled them :D

        • Apologies I’ve not checked ozbargain for a while I have opened it although kept all the boxes etc if that’s still something of interest to you I’m not sure

  • I recommend this one! I bought it and love it.. Pull the trigger guys

Playing LG 4K demo video out of youtube. With bedside light on, natural 8pm summer natural light from windows.
Pretty bright outside. About 90 inch projection. Taken from 4m distance by oppo reno 5g camera.

I am happy out of my $2k purchase. It is replacing my 50 inch panasonic plasma from 2008 lol.

    • damn sexy how far it placed from wall?

i got a pana55 viera plasma 2010 to be replaced too lmao

      • +4

33cm. I tried in my living room projecting 150inch. It was still good. Though the viewing distance there was only 3m and I got headache. Its like watching on the front row cinema.

        • Haha was the picture quality just as good at 3m?

          • +2

@montorola: I was watching avengers out of disney+. It has more details than I could remember. Maybe I was paying attention to it. The sweat, the pores on skin.

            • +1

@dukun: Wow,! I think for the price it's really good, well done!

    • +5

Hi, 33cm throw for 90 inch screen seems wrong, so I measured it this morning. It is actually 250x140, so its actually about 110inch.

      https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/369706/100821/img_2023…

Above is how it looks like at 150inch, 10.30am sunny day all blinds up, but no direct sunlight into the room. At night, the quality is as good as those 110inch I posted earlier.

      • unsure but being "laser", i heard might be dangerous for anyone to be/looking direct into the projector light-source.

i assume you're using the 2×15W speakers or how do u rate the inbuilt sound?

        • Agree, I would avoid anyone to be looking into the light source. It dims the light when someone is within the vicinity of the unit. and if that someone is not moving away within 5 seconds then it turns it's light off itself.

I would rate those 2 tiny speakers 5/5.

  • plz mention how far the throw

Place the PL1H just 42cm away from the wall to experience a massive 120inch image.

  • I'm really tempted to get one. Not sure how it would go with kids. Does JB do change of mind return?

    • +1

      Yes, 7 days unopened unused.

I went to Harvey Norman to see the L5F in action before commit the purchase. My local JB did not have this on display. Now that I have it at home, I feel they are the same.

  • What’s the difference between this and the L5F. I have L5F currently projecting on the wall. I have the screen 100 inch still in the box, will get to assembling it in a couple of weeks time. Someone was doing the assembly for around $400 which I think is too expensive.

    • +1

They are similar. L5F is older but brighter and has 4 hdmi compare to 2. PL1H is cheaper, partly because it does not include the screen but has vidaa 6, dolby vision and voice control.

      • +1

        Thank you for you feedback

  • Guys, I have a cream coloured wall which I'm not allowed to paint :(

What's the cheapest thing I can do to get a somewhat reasonable projection quality?

    • +1

Mine is cream too, a lot of imperfection, scuffs, scratches, nail holes, etc. It was last painted 18 years ago, so you can imagine.

      • Oh awesome then!! I saw your photos last night and thought it looked great. Mine was last painted 18yrs ago too haha.

I'll just run mine looks yours until a screen deal comes on lol

    • +3

Also in picture mode there are a few options that boost the brightness:

      1.) in settings select System > Console > Screen Size > 120inch
2.) settings select Picture and change the warmth to a cooler tone since you have a cream wall (or if your HDMI triggers Dolby Picture modes, select Custom)
3.) settings select Picture and in Auto Contrast mode (forgot the full name but you'll find it when you scroll through the menu), set it to Medium or High

      • Thanks mate, will try this when I get home, much appreciated! :)

  • +1

Anyone use a HDMI switch with this?

I see it has only two HDMI ports

I want to use HDMI 2 (ARC) with my sound bar, which leaves only one HDMI port for my HTPC and Nintendo Switch to share.

  • Thanks OP, just bought it @$1655.00 :)

    • how did you get that price? and where didyou find stock?

      • +5

Just went to local store, asked them to check the stock. They had the last one. I asked him to check if i can get it @$1795 and the guy went to check with his manager and said yes. I than used this deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/749529) to get $40 off and used additional 10% off jbhifi giftcards.

        • Have you set it up yet & are you happy with it ???

  • Guys is there a way to adjust the height of the projected image?

I have an entertainment unit which is 53cm high so the projected image from that position is a bit too high up the wall.

Any way to bring it back down without physically lowering the projector to the floor?

(I feel like I'll have to use the projector without an entertainment unit if all else fails)

    • +2

Told ya you need a bigger house :D

I am pretty sure you cannot adjust the height.

  • The specs guide says this is upscaled 4K. Anyone else able to confirm that this is actually not true 4K, and is instead using some form of upscaling? Kind of defeats the purpose if it won't do true 4K.

    • +1

From my understanding, upscaled 4K on this device means that if your source is 1080p then it will upscale it to 4K, so it will look better compares to displaying the source as is. However, if the source is 4K then it will display 4K as is. And on top of it, if the source is dolby vision then it will also be able to display it as dolby vision.

      • +2

I finally found some info. It is not native 4K:

"The native resolution of the chip is 2048 x 1200 pixels (visible 1920 x 1080 pixels), and 4K resolution is achieved using XPR2 Shift pixel shift technology. The projector is claimed to cover the Rec709 color space by 114.7% and DCI P3 by 85%."

Assuming that's correct information, it's trading native 4K resolution and a good colour space representation for being able to do Dolby Vision. A shame, but at the price I was wondering what was potentially the catch.

        Source: https://www.techweekmag.com/news/projector/hisense-pl1h-dolb…

        • +1

These single and triple lasers USTs under say the $10k mark (Samsung, Hisense, Xiaomi, etc) seem to all use pixel shifting technology, more advanced than what has been in long throw projectors for years to achieve 4k level picture. The colour wheel spins so fast sequencing in the pixels of full HD sensor as to 4x so to get the 4k. Your mind and eyes really won't see it, they see it as 4k. Very rare occasion you see rainbows. I have not and have this projector and previous 4k pixel shift projectors before.

Do note that as I've watched more the projector will sense all of Dolby Atmos, vision, HDR, HDR10+ and 4k signals and present itself as a 4k device. You can quickly hit the menu button while something is playing and quick selection of picture settings and you can see the signal format. From there can quickly change as to bright, dark, custom, option, auto contrast, etc. Netflix uses mix of vision and HDR10+ on their new content. Lots of new Amazon prime content is HDR10+, some vision. Prime compression means that picture is not as clear as Netflix 4k. 4k off a Dolby vision 4k disk player, top gun maverick was amazing.

        • I have not yet searched a comparison between native 4K vs upscaled 4K. Playing videos on youtube however I can tell the differences between different resolutions on the same video. I watched a review of comparison between xiaomi 1080p and 4K UST and from my perspective the 4K is winning because of higher lumens instead of the number of pixels itself.

Before I decided on this unit, I was considering this: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/philips-screeneo-u5-ultra… It has no mentioning of upscaling anywhere. In terms of pricing, it was AU$2700 ish at the time of this writing. I would not be surprised if it was or one day be $1999.

edit: I probably can tell the difference between native and upscaled 4K in a close distance. At my current viewing distance of 4m, I doubt it is noticeable.

  • Price back to $3295

JB must have been selling these for a while at a loss?

    • No stock tho

    • Not sure at whose loss or even a loss.

I saw Bing Lee is selling for $3299.

  • +2

Can people please put up review of the unit. Thanks

  • +1

Can anybody with one of these report whether they suffer from “Rainbow Effect” for people sensitive to it?

    • I would really like to know this too

    • Can't give a perfect example (I had a DLP BenQ w1070 for a few years) and it only effected me in a minor way when viewing day to day. It would stand out if I moved my head side to side or had white subtitles on.

For the Hisense I can't observe any rainbow effect at all so my assumption is it's significantly reduced? Hopefully some other owners can provide there experience.
