ANZ Rewards Black Credit Card: 180,000 ANZ Rewards Points, $3,000 Spend in 3 Months, $375 Annual Fee, $150 Cashback)

351

Seems to be the exact same deal as last year, not too bad compared to the current slim pickings: https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards/black/

150k points can apparently be redeemed for $650 in gift cards, $600 statement credit, or 75K VFF / 50K Asia Miles / 50K KRIS Miles.

With $150 cash back, the annual fee works out $225. So $425 profit if redeeming for gift cards.

$15,000 minimum credit limit / $65 annual fee for additional cardholders.

Edit 4/5: Now 180k points bonus instead of 150k.

I signed up for this back in November. I met the spending criteria in December. I received points, 150 credit and cancelled my card. When I cancelled I asked if I can get annual fee back. The CR did some internal chat for approval and they said I am eligible for 375 annual fee back. I was surprised since…I also got $150 credit. Overall, I was happy about it.

    • Wow!. I had several credit cards and I always forget to ask them for credit my annual fee.

Do you think I can call and ask for it 2 mo ths after cancellation?

      • Worth a try since they can just say no and that lucky time it is s Yes!

I called up St George, after 18 mins and 2x being on hold they released my establishment fee. They told me that it is not common practice to refund pro rata.

I feel like they will be changing their policies to our detriment soon.

    • this also happened to me with their black qantas card.

      • I called customer service and they refused to give me pro-rate annual fee back

        • this was back in november last year, could have changed their policy since then

    • When I cancelled I asked if I can get annual fee back. The CR did some internal chat for approval and they said I am eligible for 375 annual fee back.

      Nice work.
Is it better to call them up before cancelling (their wait times are fairly long during business hours)? I don't see the chat option anywhere.

Not eligible for another 11 months! Lots of people here would be more or less on a churning waiting period!

    • Where do you typically transfer your points to…?

    • The ANZ FF card has a separate cooldown, so can do that if you haven't already within 12 months.

  • +1

The equivalent for business (abn required) is giving 100k points with no annual fees.

I know things are worse in the churning market than before but last time I applied for this card about 12m ago, it was 180k points and no first year fee - just for some other context.

    • +1

      Thanks for the info.

    • Why's it worse?

    Whats the min. income?

    • +3

      Probably 75k for black

Anz processing os team are hopeless

I get confused with these ANZ cards which one is in one what scheme/cool down. I recently had the ANZ Rewards Platinum, im guessing thats the same as this scheme? I need to wait for an ANZ Qantas one?

    • +1

Yes, the cards either say Rewards or Frequent Flyer for the two programs. The current FF offer is 110,000 Qantas Points for the Black which isn't too bad (was 160k when I did it last year though).

      • Whoa…. thanks. Big difference. I haven't had a QFF ANZ card since 2021 so looks like im a hold out for something better than 110K.

  • Can someone with an ANZ app/account check if the annual fee is waived for ANZ customers?

    • +1

I applied via the customer offers portal and the fee is still mentioned at all stages of the app.

  • Oof that annual fee
Would take a citibank card before this

  • +1

What's the go with credit score and churning?

    • +2

Valid question - little to no impact if you never carry a balance

I had ANZ black 10 months ago. Do they still have that min 12 month period thingy before reapplying?

    • Yes but the FF and Rewards cards have separate cooldowns.

  • I cancelled my Black Rewards cards in Feb 2022 and have a current FF Black card.
Would it be safer to apply for the card in March to meet full 12 mth period?

    • Should be fine by the letter of the terms.

  • What exactly does ANZ mean by eligible purchases?

    https://www.anz.com.au/content/dam/anzcomau/documents/pdf/an…

I looked through the T&Cs above, and couldn't find which purchases would be considered ineligible under their Rewards program.

    • +1

Usually cash advances/gambling/government dept. or council payments are ineligible.

      • Thanks for your response.

At least you know more than ANZ's credit card team.
They promised a callback with the answer. Not holding my breath.

I assume online card payments via PayPal, AfterPay, etc. will still count towards eligible purchases?

        • +1

Should be fine if for normal retail purchases. Easiest test is to simply buy something and see if you get reward points for the transaction on the anzrewards.com portal.

I think it’s safe to use clause 7 as a guide.

You will not earn Rewards Points on interest charges, premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance (ANZ Credit Card Insurance not available for new customers from March 17th, 2018), Government Charges, payments made to the Australian Taxation Office, bank fees, card account adjustments resulting from disputed transactions or otherwise, balance transfers, cash advance (as defined in the ANZ Credit Cards Conditions of Use) or transactions which are identified to ANZ by the relevant merchant or any intermediary financial institution as falling into one of these categories.

  • is this the best deal at the moment? Excluding Citi.
Compared to Suncorp Clear Platinum and it's $425 (ANZ) vs $401 (Suncorp) profit in gift cards

    • What’s the better one with Citi?

  • 150k points can apparently be redeemed for $650 in gift cards, $600 statement credit, or 75K VFF / 50K Asia Miles / 50K KRIS Miles.

Edit 4/5: Now 180k points bonus instead of 150k.

180k points can be redeemed for $800 in gift cards, $720 statement credit, or 90K VFF / 60K Asia Miles / 60K KRIS Miles.

  • Whats minimum salary requirement for this card? $100k not enough? I got almost instant rejection lol

    • I got approved with under 90k salary

    • I got approved in Feb at $80k/pa (no other cards or debts, just a $200k home loan), not sure if they've upped the requirements or something.

      • What did you guys put down for your monthly expenditure? I did about $3,000 - Might need to adjust that?
I also have two other cards with a few hundreds owing. Maybe I should have paid them off before applying.

        • They don't really verify monthly expenses. I put down $1200 with no mortgage.

          • @BrunoBear: It also doesn't help if you already bank with ANZ, and have your salary paid into an ANZ account.
They still make you upload 3 months worth of payslips from your current employer.

            • @DoctorCalculon: Ahh good point, I already bank with ANZ hence the insta-rejection :D

I'll just try different cards then.

What is everyone's experience with when this card's bonus points and cashback are issued. I met the criteria on 15 May and paid annual fee on 23 May, but still nothing.

    • Same here, came back to check on the bonus points/cashback. Met mine on 1st Jul and nothing yet.

    • It says within three months but some comments mentioned the following statement. Example here

    • I met my spending criteria in the middle of 2nd statement period. Received a 2nd statement on 18 Jul and the bonus points came in yesterday. Now, planning to close the account. Is anyone able to request pro rata annual fees refund with anz?

  • Do they provide a confirmation email once you've qualified for travel insurance? With normal insurance, a policy number is normally provided, which gives me peace of mind.

What does one provide to ANZ/Allianz when making a claim and what's the process like?

  • How long did it take for your bonus points to come in after completing the eligible spending?

  • App doesnt have option for transaction notifications. And when logging into the website, it says notifications not available for credit cards. Whack.

Good deal, but what a dreadful experience! It's a lot of work for the sign-on bonus.

It took 2 weeks to approve, with lots of back and forward with ANZ asking for the same documents multiple times. Eventually I got a call from one of the credit assessors who asked the same questions (again!) and approved me for $15k which is lower than I wanted, but fine. I earn above the minimum requirement but have complex financials and they really want to get into the details.

Then I had to go to a branch to complete identification. I thought most banks use online verification but I guess not ANZ. So I book in a time to visit a branch. My local had no bookings for a week, so I had to travel further out. I got the obligatory upsell for home loans and other things.

Card arrived in the mail after a few days but there was no obvious way to activate it without a "CRN" or "Telecode", neither of which were in any emails or the letter that came with the card. So I call up. After about 35 minutes I come off hold, first person tries to help, sends me to another team, then they send me to a card activation IVR, and then that sends me back around to the first team to set up my CRN again. All up I was on the phone (mostly on hold) for 1 hour 10 mins. I am now an expert on their hold music, and after hearing "Here comes the sun" for the sixth time on repeat I can say I am sick of the Beatles.

Everyone I dealt with was pleasant but wow, what a rigmarole.

Then I want to add to Google Wallet. It insists I call the bank for a verification code. It looks like a special number so I call it and greeted by "Due to a high volume of calls we are experiencing delays…". Oh whatever, I guess I'll carry plastic around. What a joke.

    • Very similar experience. The no way to activate the card was the icing on the cake .

  • Hi anyone, for the last 12 month, do we know how it defined? does it meaning 365 days?

So if I close last one on 2022-07-19, can i get a new one now?

    • Yes, it's a 12 month window not a calendar year.

  • Anyone know how long it takes for bonus points to be credited? They don't appear in my first statement.

    • +1

Can take up to 3 months but got mine within 30 days IIRC.
