Great watch. I own the 7x, partner owns the 6s. Feel free to ask questions!

    • If you didn't already own one, what model would you get?

      • I'd get Epix ;)

No seriously, these are all great - super happy with mine. You will pay more for Fenix 7 or Epix, but get touch screen (which I rarely use - prefer buttons).

See my previous comments about the watch, especially if you are Apple/Samsung watch user - these are not for you!

        • With the touchscreen, do you find it useful for entering your garmin pay pin number? I have an older garmin that doesn't have garmin pay or a touch screen, but I imagine that entering the pin number would be one key area for me where the buttons would fall short. Other than that, i think I'd definitely keep using buttons over the touch screen.

          • +1

@Tmonine: Absolutely, PIN for payments is my primary use case for touch screen. It is more convenient than using buttons, although, even that is not too bad. In typical Garmin fashion, they've made entering PIN easy with buttons as well, with their rotating dial for numbers.

          • +1

@Tmonine: Entering a 4 digit pin with buttons on my 6X has never been an issue.
The only advantage i can think of having touch screen, is being able to zoom in and out map while running.

          • +1

@Tmonine: Just make your pin 0000. That way it's fast to unlock as by default the 0 shows on screen as first digit each time.

            If I had a choice I wouldn't even have a pin.

I went from a string of Android Wear watches (the last being a Galaxy Watch 4 Classic) to a Fenix 6 to an Epix 2. The Epix is the best watch I've used so far as my main use is for notifications followed by workout tracking and mapping hikes, so I don't miss the app ecosystem. The battery life is fantastic for holidays and camping trips as I don't have to think about recharging every night.

Zooming and panning a map on the Fenix 6 was a lesson in patience. The touchscreen on the Epix 2 makes it so much easier to use, and the display is so much more vibrant.

It could be confirmation bias but Fenix 7x is great.

The flashlight is something I use daily. The GPS accuracy and HR accuracy is better. Battery life great.

Reason why Epix was out for me was because I don't think watches are like tablets or phones where you look at them continuously. I'd preferncd battery life over a nice screen but that's just my personal preference.

        • +1

@wearytraveller ok, you've sold me! I thought the flash light would be handy as I do like the great outdoors! when i read it was only available on the 7X I was a bit pi$$sed tho as I didn't want such a big watch, but I bit the bullet and just purchased the one with the chestnut leather band, not cheap, but oh well. Now i guess i better start doing some wrist excercises to bulk up my wrist so the big watch doesn't look so out of place!!

          • @runny: Woohoo! @runny

Feel free to send me a PM if you wanna be garmin buddies!

    • I'm interested in the comparison between the 7x (gen 4) and 6s (gen 3) sensors. Have you and your partner noticed a difference in the accuracy of heart rate and sleep tracking?

      • +1

There are definitely differences in GPS (multiband is amazing). There are definitely differences in HR accuracy but probably less of a difference than GPS.

Is it worth double the price for these features alone? No probably not. But with flashlight, battery life, feature set, possibly.

        • That's really helpful, thanks. I'm actually deciding between this Fenix 6 Sapphire and the Forerunner 955 (which also uses the newer sensors and sometimes goes for $640 or so). I think think I'm that bothered about the GPS differences, but it's useful to have this insight into the HR sensor.

          • +1

@gollux: All good. I'd go for the 955. Newer watch and newer features. For example, I don't think 6 has training readiness which is a useful feature.

          • +1

@gollux: I bought the 945 second hand about 4 years ago now. Mainly for the battery life but also just in case I wanted maps (which I haven't used). I love how light it is and the accuracy, especially heart rate for gym and HIIT which was a struggle for fitness watches back then. It's survived a hammering working out of ships and helicopters. I just replace the tempered screen protector every now and then. I have no desire yet to upgrade which is rare for me. Hope that helps.

This might actually be a Pro/S/X version right? I do not think a vanilla 6 is possible with Saphire glass?

    • +1

Yep I think the sapphire versions only come with the pro features also included

      • +1

correct this is the equivalent of the 6 Pro

  • is this a great price considering it is 6 pro equivalent?

    • +1

It's a good price, but not a great price. The Sapphire has been sub $600 on and off since 2021, well before Fenix 7 was launched in 2022. We are now in 2023.

I guess their marketing department wants to emphasis on "sapphire", but they should really just name the line up: Fenix 6, Fenix 6+ (with premium features), Fenix 6 Pro (with premium features and sapphire glass). So that it's immediately clear between the entry and advanced models.

I got 6X pro for $412 advertised as refurb even though came brand new (minus CR $20 cashback
$392). Just had to pay $20 or so for the Aussie maps.

Sometimes pays to checkout the Amazon Warehouse UK/US/AU listings for returns/refurbs

      • I think they are customer returns, so it's a bit of luck of the draw. Sometimes simply change of mind, other times can be used but not fit for purpose.

Agree to check it out, you can always return if there are issues or not as described. Amazon refunds soon after the return label is scanned at post office (and you can ask post office to print the label, you don't need a printer). Minimum fuss.

      • The maps are free online

        • Link please. I can’t find Fenix maps, though bought maps for edge 530.

awesome watch, can wear it anywhere and never worry about it.

  • this or G-Shock?

    • +1

      This.

Not necessarily this deal, but definitely this watch over G-Shock.

  • Any chance JB or any other retailer would price match on the equivalent in black?

    • Rebel refused and I don't live near a JB. Worth trying them yourself if you do though.

  • Just a quick warning to everyone that it Garmin purposely remove the ability to read Chinese characters on the Fenix 6 line for the non-apac version of the watch. (even though Australia is in the APAC region.

    • Never tried it on the 6 but FWIW Chinese characters appear in notifications on the Epix 2.

      • That limit was removed on the newer device, afaik you just need to download an update on Fenix 7 to enable Chinese characters.

This is galaxy watch 5 pro?

  • +1

How long is the waitlist for this watch? Any tips on how to build a good relationship with the AD?

    • +1

This is a smartwatch. They don't have a waitlist.

Not bad for 3+ year old stock
