Valve Steam Deck 256GB Handheld Portable Gaming Console $990.99 ($960.99 with Kogan First) Delivered @ Heybattery Kogan

210

I don't know how low "low stock" is on Kogan, so if it's too low to meet deal requirements then mods please remove. I was looking at the 64gb for $770 which has now sold out, but the 256gb is still in stock and shipping now.

Note that it's not sold by Kogan, but it's a Hong Kong company operating through Kogan, so you may be rolling the dice on warranty though the company does claim to offer a 12-month warranty (T&Cs of seller here).

Seems like a pretty decent price.

    Sold by HeyBattery

Yeah as I said in description (and just updated title). Do they have a history or something I should know about?

      • +4

Should be in the title otherwise it looks like it’s sold by Kogan.

      • +3

The seller is ok. I bought an 8bitDo SN30 Pro+ controller from this seller some time ago through the Kogan web site. I never had any issues. But then again this is a near $1K purchase so it's not cheap.

However i think it's probably grey imported stock from Hong Kong. How you will go with warranty i have no idea.

So keep in mind i don't think that this is official Australian stock. Warranty may be an issue. It's why it says warranty claims is covered through Kogan as it's not official Australian stock.

        • +1

          It’s all grey stock btw
Just kogan directly you got (SLIGHTLY) better chance of a favourable resolution

          • @Jimothy Wongingtons: Yah this is exactly right. Some people's experience is better than others, but based on previous posts with HeyBattery the company seems to have a favourable track record.

        • There is no official Australian stock at the moment (Valve is yet to launch it here).
          Kogan is importing it too.

          • @FireRunner: Oh well. There's nothing you can do about it. Have to rely on the Kogan warranty if it's worth the text that it's made out of it.

          • @FireRunner: Do grey stock still fall under Australian consumer laws if bought from an Australian seller?
Sorry, I'm a tad inexperienced in all of this.

            • +2

@ihuntbargains: I think they the seller have to provide 12 months warranty if they are dealing as a business in Australia. Such as Kogan being a GST registered business. They heybattery may be based from Hong Kong but they are dealing in Australia taking GST payments.

              • @hollykryten: Okay thats great, lot less stressful if I were to just say screw it and buy the one from kogan.

            • +2

@ihuntbargains: Kogan = deal with kogan

Kogan marketplace = deal with kogan marketplace seller and if issues escalate to kogan.

Got no experience how straightforward this is though

Heybattery clearly says it was HK stock I believe so I wonder who foots the bill to send it back (and if any shenanigans ensue if they claim it’s not warranty issue by their ‘technician’ )

              • @Jimothy Wongingtons: It says this on the product web page under the Warranty & Returns drop down arrow thing.

                "Warranty & Returns
This product is sold by a third party Marketplace Seller.

For Warranty claims, this product is covered by the Kogan Guarantee."

                And also this:

"For products sold by a Marketplace Seller, if the Seller hasn’t provided a satisfactory resolution within 3 working days, please lodge a dispute resolution request here, and we will take care of it from there in accordance with this Guarantee."

It seems if the marketplace seller doesn't respond to a warranty claim within 3 working days, that Kogan itself steps in.

          I never had any issues

Yeah but usually problems starts when having a issue and try to deal with them?

Thats like saying, I had this insurance for years but never had to make a claim and they are awesome ;)

      • Yep they do have a history, not a great one, they'll sell you products that are out of stock, keep your money, then lie to you via customer support about the status, not worth the saving unfortunately.

Great price for the Kogan First price. Better hit up a Kogan First free trial if you can get it.

    • +1

Sadly maxed out my Kogan first trials already… only have so many new CC's to use (though you can always put in a random phone number because this isn't needed to place or track the order).

  • Might be worth mentioning kogan changed their price for the kogan direct one to 1008 down from 1045

    • Good point! They lowered the price on the 64gb as well.

  • +1

I noticed this morning too.. However, being a 3rd party supplier made me say nah..

  • +1

Imagine giving $1k to a third party seller on Kogan for a grey import.

    Yeah. No thanks.

That's my 3 rules all broken.

Have some patience. It's been over a year already.

  • If I'm going to install a larger ssd I should just get the 64gb?

    • +1

yes , apparently 512 has an anti-glare screen, i think between 64/256 its just the internal storage.

    • Yep

  • I feel like with the Deck I'd only buy the 512GB model. Too late now anyway, I'm waiting for my AYANEO 2 to arrive.

    Lol.

Kotaku were running with the idea initially anyway.

  • Anyone's order shipped?

    • Purchased mine on the 12th, dispatched on the 17th. Still waiting for delivery updates from Aramex.

    • Ordered the 64gb on the 13th. Says it shipped on the 13th too but the tracking wasn't showing anything on Aramex. Today it updated that is on the way to the Melbourne depot and estimated delivery on 24th.

    • Ordered mine on the 16th with an AusPost tracking number provided the following day, no updates on tracking since then. When I questioned HeyBattery about the legitimacy of their stock levels they advised that it was in stock but handled by a third party logistics company. Regret purchasing through these guys.

      • I also regret buying from HeyBattery - I had bought from them before without any issue so I thought they would be safe. I ordered mine on the 12th and questioned them after several days of "processing". They claimed they shipped it out from their AU warehouse on the 18th but they didn't give me a tracking number. I eventually got an Aramex number that hasn't yet been scanned. I suspect they are generating shipping labels so that the items can be marked as shipped and a tracking number generated, without the stock actually moving (or perhaps they are waiting for the stock to come in from Hong Kong rather than from their Melbourne warehouse as they claim).

Everyone should save themselves the headache and order from Kogan directly; the extra $40 or so more than covers the cost of speedy shipping and you get supposedly get the 45W Cygnett charger too.

The only positive so far is that the HeyBattery rep at least replies fairly promptly.

        • I've put through a request for the invoice contatining the serial of the unit I'm expecting. We'll see how this goes.

        • Mine arrived on the 24th as stated by Aramex. Currently working away so haven't had the chance to open the box.

        • Mine finally got scanned into Melbourne by Aramex, 2 weeks after I ordered.

          • @akaakmdm: I'll hit 2 weeks on Wednesday, still says picked up by courier and headed to Melbourne depot, estimated arrival time for Brisbane tomorrow? Don't think soooo.

            • @Jazza2400: Same as mine, says supposed to arrive yesterday now delayed. Did ask live chat and they replied with a new Estimated Delivery Between
              02/02/2023 - 03/02/2023. So hopefully this week…

              • @narumivtl: Just got mine delivered this morning. No notification other than refreshing the tracking page updated when refreshed, skipped melbourne depot, skipped Brisbane depot. left next to front door. Looking forward to setting up tonight :)

          • @akaakmdm: Mine finally arrived 3 weeks after I ordered. There were no tracking updates since it got picked up, it just got left on my doorstep. The deck itself is fantastic though!

            • @akaakmdm: Through aramex?

              • @Jazza2400: Yep, through Aramex. 1 week after I ordered, I got a tracking number that didn't work, then a week later is showed up as being picked up from Melbourne, but didn't update afterwards - I never got any indication that it was out of delivery, they just left it on my doorstep.
