    128GB isnt much space.

    Recommend 512 and up.

    • +4

My wife is having 64GB on her new I phone SE but is using mostly cloud.

    • +51

It's a lot for people who don't have to save porn on phone

      • +2

Yeah, but they don't have to rely on Vodafone.

        • Why do you say that?

      • 4K baby !

      • Its like you looked directly into my soul

      • All good for push bike riding brunswick residents.

    • +19

128/256 is fine for most people.

      • +1

If ProRes recording format is something of interest then go for atleast 256 GB to record in 4K, only 1080P supported on 128GB Pro models.

    • +2

i would agree that 128gb isn't much space, but i would recommend 256. the closer you are to maximising your space, the slower it becomes. i try to fill my phones memory up to 50%, i start seeing a decrease in speed after that.

i would recommend the 512gb if you have the pro or promax because they made a huge jump from 12mp to 48mp. so you will be eating memory 4X faster.

i use to think to always keep downloading my memory to my iMac, but the longer you have your phone the lazier you will get, so it's just better to get more memory.

also you have the iCloud option to gain more memory, but with added monthly cost.

      • +2

The 48mp iPhones still take 12mp photos unless you specifically change it. Just having the extra sensor resolution improves quality.

Also I'm not sure about your 50% theory. Is that true? Can't see any reason ios or android should have any issues with 64gb of free space.

        • i notice it from personal experience, the closer you get to fully maxing out your memory, the slower the performance is for me.

      • If you have iCloud Photos then it optimised the photos that are actually stored on your phone.

It does something like only storing thumbnails and then downloads the photo when you click in to them, for non recent or rarely used photos.

    • +2

I have 128GB and have not even used half of this. All my photos are in the cloud. Everything else is streamed. I can't ever imagine needing 512GB on a phone. I have no interest in storing movies or music on my phone.

    • Agree 128gb isn’t much, personally 256gb is more than enough for me paired with an iCloud account for photos backups etc.

  • -4

It's a dupe from last year's promo that Vodafone decided to extend to the 31/1/23.

Good luck finding stock of the iPhone you like

    • Was just writing up a comment with that!

      • +4

You can still sign up for the deal and order the desired iPhone, which can be collected later once available.
Alternately sign up at Apple Store and seems they have stock for almost all iPhones now.

      • +6

All phone easily available in Melbourne, I just got 2 from Chadstone

        • +3

Correct. Plenty of stock available in Apple stores in Sydney as well for immediate pickup.

    • Stock comes in and out on the website every day. You can reserve a phone using Apple’s website. It’s just a matter of checking the site every hour.

  • Vodafone is no good where I live. No coverage until I drive 40km south…

    • +53

      Thanks for letting us know

      • +4

Thanks for letting me know that I let you know!

        • +32

You can take the 40km drive home now. Your job is done.

          • -1

@M00Cow: All good, no Vodafone no trouble in Whoop Whoop!

            • -1

@Thrifty Dan: Thanks for that insightful information.
Note to self, don't live in "Whoop Whoop".

    • +1

      Hmmmm… that's a shame.
It's great where 'I' live. Just sayin'.

      • +5

It is great where I live too. Just no Vodafone…

    • +3

Yeah. Voda is shit and has numerous blackspots around Preston if you’re in Melbourne

I guess the best network we have is Telstra

      • Telstra doesn’t even work where I live, Voda is the best.

        • +3

You must really live somewhere special

  • +61

    so Iphone 14 is $1900 -$1000 off = $900 + $1656 plan cost = $2556

Buy an outright Iphone for $1900+ Signup to $120-140ish Annual SIM plans (Boost, Kogan, Amaysim, Catch) and for 2 years, works out to be around $2200+ No strings attached. Where is the savings?

      • +30

        Boost is full Telstra…

        • Can you explain how Boost plans work? I've thought about switching but they all have 28 day expiry. So I need to sign up every month? Can I not just get a bill each month and pay like any other plan?

          • @deniall83: There are 12 month Boost plans. Check their website.

          • +1

@deniall83: They are prepaid, not postpaid, so they don't provide credit. You can select auto renewal, so you sign up once, auto renew every 4 weeks. Cancel when you want.

      • +1

I am on boost, trust me its the full telstra service, the only reseller to offer it

        • +8

But no Apple/Samsung Watch number share available. I’ve been with boost for a number of years but I’m starting to look at other providers for this exact reason.

          • @bargainben: Not a single prepaid provider in Australia offers number sharing.

      • Few years back I used Vodaphone. Vodaphone hardly worked in regional area. Does anyone have any idea if they improved or not?

        • Take a look at their maps.
Generally speaking though, Voda is for people that live in well populated areas/cap city areas and large regional centres.

    • +7

Other difference is data inclusions. Kogan for example comes with 120GB data per year. Vodafone plane has 150GB per month (1.8 Terabytes per year)

      • Interesting, could you tether a few devices 24/7 to replace broadband or can they detect and stop that?

        • I do that with my Optus account. My alarm, TV, google home all link by wifi to a Huawei 4g wifi

        • Yes you can, but there are stipulations, which are quite reasonable.
I use tethering between tablet and phone, but can't comment on your actual requirements.
Check the Vodafone website for full details, just to be sure. But I don't believe you'll be visited by the Vodacops if you stretch it a bit.

      • Your comparing a single Kogan 12 month prepaid SIM with a monthly postpaid plan.
Vodafone has 12 month prepaid SIM's also just like the Kogan options.

        • No I’m commenting directly based on ops comment.

Signup to $120-140ish Annual SIM plans (Boost, Kogan

    • +7

This deal is ideal for those, like me, whose employers pay their monthly bill. They can get a discounted phone by benefiting from this kind of deals.

      • +6

        Is your employer hiring?

      • +3

Not like mobile bills are worth much now. I haven't paid more than $15/month in years by buying 12 month SIM deals when on sale.

        • Agree. But its the deals like $1,000 off or Gift Vouchers that we value, as bills are paid by employers.

          • +1

@usmanhafeez2000: If your mobile is a requirement of your job they should just be buying your phone outright anyway. That's how it's always worked for my employment terms when required

            • @SimAus007: My employer does provide a phone too, but I am using my own number, and get monthly bill reimbursed. Thats where I sign up such deals to get the discount or gift cards for buying another phone.

      • My wife just did the same today on the $59/mth deal to get an iPhone 13; out of pocket by $520 after paying the balance with "discounted" GC from Woolies. But she didnt expect Vodafone requiring initial payments to be made via DD from a bank account and not a company credit card. When her number is ported over, she will call Vodafone to see if this can be changed or it will be an administrative pain.

    • 150GB $69 Monthly Plan

      $150/yr ($200 plan) Boost is 150gb/yr.

So i suppose data his might like it.

    • Yep, I did this on Telstra prepaid currently but moving to Belong soon.
I bought iPhone 14 pro 256gb with credit bought at 10% ott hence $1720 then just buying cheap plans.

      • Hi, where was this 10% off?Thanks

    • In addition to everything else, you'll need a contract from big three for Apple Watch cellular plans, or similar (other branded watches).

Unfortunately for some people a proper contract is a must due to work or other reasons. Though I'm been on annual plans for years and it's indeed dirt cheap compared to anything on a contract. Different user group I guess.

  • +14

don't do it, you will be stuck in a 2 year contract with the worst cell phone service. I went back to Telstra. just buy your phone outright and sign up with MATE, they are on the telstra network and you can get 5G plan for cheap, and its Telstra

    • You say, " don't do it, you will be stuck in a 2 year contract with the worst cell phone service. "
      Really? How so?

      • +4

        You say: “Really? How so?”
Really? What part of 2 years, contract and vodafone don’t you understand?

        • +4

Voda works best for me. Telstra is just a black hole.

        • +4

Voda works perfectly everywhere I need it and their international roaming is the best value
I'm not on a contract but stay with them. It's not all bad news for everyone.

        • +2

          Stop being so pedantic.!
I understand Contract and I understand Vodafone.
I'm pissed at those who make outrageous unqualified sweeping statements just for personal effect.
I've been using Vodafone for almost 7 years and FOR ME, they have been excellent value for money.
Show me a mobile service provider which works EVERYWHERE, and I'll sign up in a blink.
Shit/Crap companies from any platform simply go under.
          Voda remains global and successful.
          Pull your head in!

          • +1

@dusty4: That’s a helpful comment. Should’ve been your original reply to the comment above instead of asking a question like you’re dumb.
But yeah, if you are to move somewhere else within the next two years, or if you like to travel around the country every now and then, or if you are a tradie and don’t know where you’ll be tomorrow, your chances are best with telstra, optus then vodafone. In that order. That is a fact not an opinion.

            • @Ridiculous Panda: Seriously?
              Like "I'm dumb"?
Read the comment to which I replied, again!
Maybe you will 'get it' this time, genius!

        • My wife works from home (18km south of the river in Perth) and Vodafone coverage is just as good as Telstra for her purpose, as her work phone stays in the office mostly. So it depends on use case. For her personal phone, she is on Boost prepaid. As her employer pays for the monthly subscription, she gets a 58% discount on her new iPhone 13 from this deal (with discounted GC from Woolworths) which is pretty sweet!

    • +3

In my experience, Telstra had the worst coverage I’ve ever experienced where I live…like to the point where they paid my monthly bill until my contract ended. coverage is region-based. Some users may find Vodafone is great where they live.

    • I was with Mate and decided to give Vodafone a try. I’m an interstate truck driver and live in a regional area so good opportunity to test the network out. I lasted 2 months.
Baffling thing was that I had decent 4G reception, probably 2-3 bars majority of the time, but the data was averaging about 2mbps in regional areas and given that voice calls now use 4G for VoLTE I struggled to talk on the phone without drop outs or terrible call quality.
Often I would try to load something and it would take 5 minutes+ to download a web page.
In metro areas though Vodafone is great. Excellent 5G speeds and good quality network.

Since the Telstra/TPG deal was knocked back by the ACCC, I decided to go back with Mate who now offer wifi calling and VoLTE so my experience is much more stable and I have better call quality at home using the wifi calling.
While it’s true that not having access to the full Telstra network does have some drawbacks in places like Marla or other ultra remote areas that I sometimes traverse, you wouldn’t notice a difference in metro areas or up and down the east coast.

    • +1

      Optus is the worst nowadays.

    • +2

      A couple of things:

      1) You won't be stuck in a contract. Vodafone has a 30 day network guarantee still, if you don't like the service you can claim on it in store or over the phone - and the best thing is, at least for me, I could keep the phone despite most of the cost being included in the plan, not outright.

      2) Mate is not Telstra, and they don't use the 'Telstra' network - they use the Telstra Wholesale network which is markedly worse - for context, Optus 4G claims to cover more of the population than Telstra Wholesale does. If you want the best network experience, you're stuck with Telstra or Boost, and even then for some Telstra may not be the best option.

      • Unfortunately this offer isn’t eligible for the 30 day guarantee, it’s buried in the T&Cs, so if the coverage is bad you’re stuck.

        • +1

Good call - they must've either patched the loophole or staff made a mistake.

  • +3

iphone 14 128GB = $ 85.6pm/$2055 over 2 yrs, $1399 for the iphone & $657 for the sim over 24m, so if you're looking at buying a iphone outright at rrp & are heavy user that needs 150GB, this plan actually works as the sim is costing you $27.375 for 150GB

    • same as my calculation…..except I don't need 150GB per month so I say no to $27! :P

  • +5

Leave metro area and find out how quickly you will be back on Optus or Telstra

    • +8

Leave metro area and find out how quickly you will be back on Optus or Telstra

      FTFY

      • Eh, I've come across plenty of regional areas where Optus comes out on top, at least on paper. For example, Hat Head up until recently had Optus 4G and only Telstra 3G, obviously no Vodafone.

That said Tasmania was amazing on Telstra, 4G Plus every single town.

    • Which 'metro area' ? Or is it ALL metro areas throughout Australia?

  • +13

Lol Vodafone network. Might as well just buy an iPod.

  • -1

    Yeah, but skodaphone…

  • +2

This or the JB $13000 gift card deal?

    • +11

      I'd take $13000, on a $890/m plan for 240 months

      • Haha nice one but I’d look for $130000 for $890 for 240 mths

      • +1

Lmao, fat fingers. I meant $1200

        • Well, the closest offer currently available from JB Hi-Fi that I can see is the $99 plan, with $1000 gift card and 300GB per month on Telstra Retail network. So it's Apple/Vodafone or a waiting game.

    • +2

      Can’t go past $13,000

    • Sorry, how did you get a $1,300 gift card, assuming you are referring to JB? The deal right now is $1,000 for 99/m over 24 mths.

  • +1

Worth noting that this deal is not exclusive to the iPhone 14s, and is eligible across any iPhone available in an Apple Retail Store.

Also - this deal is only available for individual accounts, and not business accounts.

    • +1

Thanks for clarifying - hugely important given how lacklustre the iPhone 14 upgrade is, and the fact the iPhone 13 mini is still for sale at Apple Store only.

  • Lol Vodafone thinks we stupid ?

    Apple is desperate now

  • Just got the 50/m voda plan with 14pro yesterday -___- I'm assuming I can't somehow changeover and opt for this deal? :(
