Sharp 70" 4k UHD TV 4T-C70CK3X, $899 + $55 Delivery @ The Good Guys eBay

1390

Seems to be a cheaper price for the recent Sharp TV deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/748383). I believe the panel is made in Japan. Reviews seem good. Apparently this version of Sharp is is high quality, and not a cheapo generic brand.

Please let me know if my post is missing anything!

What factors to consider for series X gaming ? Does this tv tick boxes ?

    • +4

I use mine for my series X and don't notice any lag, however, it's 60 hertz, so you might want a 120-hertz unit if you are a hardcore gamer.

      • +2

        Thanks @SimAus007!

Not a hard core gamer occasionally play.

        Read this on Reddit
No. Get a tv that supports 4k, 120hz, HDR, and AMD FreeSync

How much is this tv Lol ? Looks like a hardcore mode config isn't it ?

        • +3

My LG C1 65" ticks all those boxes and set me back $3450 at the time of purchase. So I'd suspect the newer LG models like C2, G2 etc will also support them, and possible the CS model as well.

          • @Trishool: Thanks man ! Okay so before buying did you check the screen quality etc in showroom ? People in home like Sony and I have LG monitors.

            • +2

              @life is suffering: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/xbox-series-x-s

check this mate, at the end there's a table of 300+ TV models tested for gaming

best as suggested are OLED of course, but there were a few solid deals for LED TVs recently, incl Sony and Samsung models, LED and OLED, fully capable of 4k/120hz etc.

like yesterday there were Sony OLED 55" refurbished off eBay for $1349. lots of solid QLED deals too with Samsung getting rid of older models, some of them close to the top of rtings list

              • @shabaka: Woah ! Thank you

              • @shabaka: Oleds are incredibly relatively dim, and simply are not useable in daylight hours without shuttering any windows within 400 metres, including your neighbours. And god forbid if you want to watch dolby vision hdr content before a peak eclipse, as it'll dim content further.

I had a top shelf sony oled. Flogged it for this reason. Intend to go a modern top shelf qled and be able to enjoy it whenever i like. For gaming you simply cant argue with the color pop that comes from what, 3x the peak brightness? More? On a lazy Saturday arvo?

                • @[Deactivated]: yeah I agree. I am tempted to try OLED when technology matures some

for now I am getting QLED close to the top of rtings gaming list. 1000+ cd/m2 brightness is king

                  • +1

@shabaka: Theres a frothing "oled only" brigade that I can only suspect have never owned one, or live in the dankest of caves.

Yes its an incredible picture, in the best conditions, with the right content. I prefer 90 percent of the quality, 100 percent of the time, with the potential for HDR highlights or bright scenes (think searchlights, characters emerging into the light, neon anything, explosions, metal highlights) with brightness that can make you wince.

                • @[Deactivated]:

I didnt neg you, but wanted to chime in on this. I disagree, we've got a LG G1 Evo 65" in our lounge that has 2 very large windows, a glass door and another 2 m x 1 m window in our kitchen which is open plan with our dining and lounge area, so a lot of light. The G1 is brighter than the C1, and I suspect the G2 is brighter than the G1 so it depends on which TV and model you get which will help in bright areas. Also the TV has a specific "Bright areas" mode.

                  • @Trishool: As nice as that is, it's still completely irrelevant. None of them will have pants on a QLED, and none of them can sustain full panel brightness even remotely close to their "bright areas" mode either. Read the part where I had a top shelf OLED and it simply wasn't remotely practical.

            • +1

@life is suffering: No I just bought online. I had seen the TV at JB Hifi a couple of months beforehand, but was confident it would be great to meet my needs for my sons Xbox Series X, and it hasnt disappointed at all :-)

              • @Trishool: Okay make sense ! Thanks 🙏 what games you playing ?

                • +1

@life is suffering: Me? None (dont have time, and when I do, I dont have the strength), but the kids are mainly playing Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Mortal Kombat, and a bunch of other games.

Do they still have yellow pixels?

Blast from the past! Had a good old big Aquos Quattron back in the day. Great telly for the size but for PQ we preferred the Kuro plasma

@Daabido: what's better than a TV with great picture quality AND the ability to pop your popcorn?

          • +1

@Daabido: Yeah who needs a room heater when you got a plasma tv.

        • +6

Still using a Panasonic Plasma for the living room. It's still lovely to watch on.

          • +1

            @Munki: Same….using Panasonic ST-60

            • @dealhunter52: Same. Actually uses 100W less than this telly, however this one is 70".

            • @dealhunter52: My ST-60 emitted a loud bang about a month ago while it was switched off. Would not switch on again so I took it to the tip. Was working great until then!

              • @bulletmark: That's weird. I wonder if it got something to do with power surge or something. That plasma panel is rated for 100,000 hours. That should last in theory ~33 years with 8 hours of viewing per day. Mine is going strong for 10 years and I prefer it over my Samsung QLED for night time viewing. Daytime not so much.

          • @Munki: i had the ambilight one until recently, my powerbill dropped by 60% once i got rid of it. Just beware once you do want to get rid of it, you might need to book for back surgery

            • @juki: Missing the joke. Its a play on words for the Sharp brand.

              • @xoom: no you missed my joke, his content being dull…hence anything but sharp — thats ok i can t be that funny :)

Same price at normal GG as well + STORECASH, no need for commercial.

I have this very TV and it's a stunner, Japenese made panel, assembled in Malaysia, has metal feet and casing yet it is very light, a powerful processor for fast and snappy startup and navigation and Google voice control via the remote works well, it also has a full-array panel, something you don't find in the cheap brands.
This is insane value for this TV - it's only marked down this low as the new model is imminent.

    • Does it have eARC and does it support Dolby Atmos? Dolby Vision? I tried to google it but cannot find the right answer.

    • +1

It doesn't have Full Array backlighting. Its Direct LIT. Which explains why the blacks were not as impressive as I was expecting when i picked mine up a few weeks ago. Its still a good TV for the money.

    • My current TV is not google-shmoogle-smart, and I'm a bit catious… do you mind answering couple of questions:
      1. How long does it take for it to start - from pushing "On" button to showing TV channel picture? like, <10s or smth around 30-60s?
      2. Does it show ads on the start screen or when you start youtube/netflix/tv/whatever?

      • Just tested this out.
From tapping the power button on the remote to a Freeview channel showing is 5 to 6 seconds.
There is no start screen (home screen) shown unless you turned your TV off with it on the home screen (restarts where you left it last).
It takes you directly to the last channel or HDMI input it was on when it switched it off.
What sort of ads are you referring to? Obviously, if you start YouTube and you don't have a paid YouTube account, you'll get ads as you do with every device.
To go to apps, there are 2 ways, either press the Google button and say "open Netflix/Stan/Amazon" etc and it'll take you directly to the app.
Alternatively, press the home button to view all apps you have installed and recommended apps, shows & movies to install/play from Google Play.

        • Cheers!
I've heard that some smart TVs like to show some panel with ads when you choose the app or channel etc - looks like that's not the case here.
Sounds promising, I'll probably head to nearest TGG to check if I like the picture

          • @interlocal: Hmmmm, I've not seen that, I guess you might be able to say that by pressing the home button the "recommendations" are a sort of adverts, but not in the true sense, I don't personally consider them adverts (some may).
I prefer going directly to apps via voice, it's faster than pressing the home button and scrolling through your apps and then pressing select.

Does this have motion smoothing? Can it be disabled? Is this even an issue in 2023?

My current TV is ancient, but I remember seeing smoothing on other people's sets and I absolutely hate it.

          • +1

@yamumma: No motion smoothing. I wouldn't touch a TV with it personally, it was/is a novelty IMO.

  • it was $1299 3 weeks ago, is that right?

    • +1

      Correct, and originally $1699.
Clearing out final stock to make way for the new model.

  • From the description in the eBay listing.

“Accidents happen but your TV will remain safe, the Sharp 4K UHD Android Smart TV is capable of being protected from drops, vibrations, voltage increases, humidity, high temperatures and more straight out of the box.”

    🤔

    • It's Sharp's 7 Shield protection feature/marketing for their TV.

That marketing statement meant for end user environment.

Don't misunderstood it as caveat during distribution transport / delivery damages terms.

  • Why won't my tv break…

    • You are more than welcome to give it to me so you can get a new tv.

      • +2

only if you proceed to break it.

    • thanks for this tip…. on ebay, looks like there's no option to collect in-store.

      • Yeah, I'm trying to find the box dimensions to see if it will fit. I'm debating whether to but from ebay with the discount code but no store cash or pickup in-store with storecash.

        • 4T-C70CK3X box dimensions are:
          1700 (L) x 1040 (H) x 210 (W) mm

Can anyone make a comment on the audio quality vs any other cheap tv? I don't bother with speakers for a tv and find my hisense passable for audio (I imagine this is better..)

    • +2

The in-built audio is surprisingly good (for in-built audio - speaking from personal experience), however, I wouldn't be using in-built audio on any TV if you want decent sound, most use soundbars now and even a cheap soundbar will sound better than any in-built speakers.
Some TV's are even excluding in-built speakers now, like some of the Samsung models, as they know soundbars crap all over in-built and it gives them the ability to make the TV thinner.
To answer your question, it doesn't sound like a cheap no-name TV speaker, but it still isn't a soundbar ;)

      • Cheers mate :) yeah I'm not a huge tv audio buff. I have a nice 2.1 setup for music but not so worried about tv viewing but nice to hear this one is ok (and included haha).

        • +2

Yeah, fair enough. When I first set mine up I hadn't plugged in my soundbar and turned it up reasonably loud and was slightly impressed, for in-built, the bass, mids and high frequencies are quite balanced and you can turn it up loud without any distortion.

How does this compare with TCL 75P735 ? I am still deciding which one to get…

    • I'm also in the same boat, one has an extra 5inches…

  • Does it have Bluetooth connectivity?

    • +1

      Seems to say it does

  • +3

Many thanks OP, I’ve been looking for a TV to watch the Aussie open on. Sounds like it will be good enough. Main drawcards were the Japanese panel, snappy OS and 3 year warranty.
