  • is there a reason, these are so cheap

    • +10

They're cheap to manufacture. Slap Fisher Price on it and then it goes up in value for the brand name.

      • Also fisher probably paid a lot of marketing cost to market the product. A lot of tech stuff on Kmart website is cheaper than branded ones as Kmart doesn't a dedicated sales team to explain how these work and tv ad to promote the use of these product, these are done by the branded one, consumer can buy the generic product once they found out how they work from the branded ones.

    • +1

Also curious why so cheap.. they are either complete garbage or this is a real good deal

      • -1

complete garbage, only good as a toy for kids

        • +14

Do people think these are like an iPad or something? Better than etch a sketch but that's for sure.

          • +5

@Clear: I'm not sure what they expect, but there's a lot of weirdos on here nowadays. As you were, clear.

        • +6

          So complete garbage for adults,
          But great toys for kids

Ironic that this image here isn’t for an adult then I guess.

          • +1

@FredAstair: They're not bad. I have a magnetic wicue one and it works basically like a small whiteboard on the fridge. It's largely become a kids toy now.

You're probably not going to be using it to take notes, but it certainly has its uses.

        • +3

I bought a couple so my son can practice his writing/spelling instead of on a whiteboard. Then I don't have to worry about markers being left without their lids.

I can also use one as a notepad I can just erase when I need to.

They're not meant to be anything like an iPad

          • +1

            @DeepHorizon: Was thinking the same.

I remember having to ‘graduate’ to a certain level as a child before I was allowed marking pens.

            How the times have passed.

Luckily I now am proficient in ‘keeping within the lines’ on my colouring.

        • I use it to quickly draw up mockups in meetings

  • Can you really draw in colours?

  • +1

The pictures are misleading because you don't get multiple colours while drawing. It's 1 colour.

    • +2

You're thinking of the monochrome ones and this isn't it. My comment above shows what an 8.5" colour one looks like.

    • I don't think you get to choose the colour. It's just set template behind, at least the one I got last time was like that.

    • +5

Think of colour scratch paper (https://riot.com.au/products/artstar-a4-scratch-art-pad-40-s…). You don't choose the colour, there's just a fixed pattern of colour underneath.

      Still good for the kids…

  • +2

a couple for under $8 each, good enough for the kid to trash. Lovely

  • Thnaks! Got the 12" one for $12.70.

  • +9

Promotes creativity without exposing them to toxicity that is social media. Win

    • +1

Or you could write mean things to them on it, perhaps claim to have had relations with their mother, and prepare them for life ;)

      • +2

I thought I was the only one who brags to my kids about doing their mother!

      • +2

        I'm sleeping with your mum!

        I know dad.

  • +1

That button battery does not look secure :(

    • +2

It's secured with a screw. First image shows the actual screw in place while the 7th pic shows the holes. If that's still not enough super glue it up.

  • Ugh keep getting that "seller made changes to the listing" error. Tried re-adding to cart and different payment method, but still can't get it to work

  • +1

Paid double the price for a smaller screen on Amazon as an Xmas stocking filler for my daughter. She loves it, keeps her entertained in the car and at restaurants. Great deal

    • How old is she? Is it going to be working for 2yo girl?

      • My daughter used it when she was 3years old, it is a great pad for them to draw write and erase. Be careful with the battery part.

  • I'm really curious about these things, how bad or fine are drawing with them?

I bought them, with hope they can kinda replace clip boards for kids.

    • +1

You cant really shade with them, as its either on or off for each pixel, but for drawing outlines they are great. The only real downside to paper is you cant keep stuff you like unless you take a picture or scan them and you cant erase (you can erase the whole picture but not part of it). Not having to go through reams of paper or worry about writing utensils is why I love mine, aslong as the battery has charge you can just keep using it.

  • Thanks. Bought one.

  • +3

lmao, buying that was a (profanity) and a half. Tried to buy 2 blue, says there's only one left. Go refresh, now three, okay, won't bother changing colors on one, go to buy 2, go to hit pay, yeah nah they don't have that many. Set it to one, go back to the page and add a red one, easy right? Nope, only the red is in my cart now. Go to the page to add blue, nope, both are in cart apparently. Go to pay, okay cool, all … wait .. the seller made some changes? Okay, what the (profanity) do I care, price is the same, let me buy the damn things! No, you can't. hits buy again twice Your order's in!

    Swell.

Cheers OP, had a small one of these for the first kiddo years ago, very cool little things. Almost bought one from your deal the other day, glad I held off, saved another buck or so buy buying 2 too lol.

    • +2

I had a similar issue, took me many attempts but finally managed to nab a blue 12"… let's see if the order is actually fulfilled.

  • Cheers op, bought one like this for $30 odd for the eldest, grabbed thia one for the little one, maybe the older kid will want to play with theirs again lol

  • +2

I hate that these are advertised as "LCD tablets". Technically yes, they use liquid crystals, with resistive pressure changing their state, but these aren't LCDs like your monitor.

For those unclear, these are essentially the modern etch-a-sketch. Better tech, hence much better clarity, but not a stupidly cheap iPad.

    • +1

So you’re mad because they correctly call it LCD
But also mad because you think that an image of a child holding it and drawing in it is making people think it’s an iPad or something¿

      • +1

I'm not mad, but I do hate the marketing. I would argue that "LCD tablet" conjures a very different idea in most consumers. Sure, no sane consumer should expect to receive an iPad for $8, but there are a lot of cheap low power tablets out there, and maybe this seems like an even cheaper one that is only powerful enough to do drawing on.

    • +5

Bought thinking it was an ipad, disappointed when I realised it can't be updated to ios 16. Expected better for $8.

      • -1

Hodl. Oled model out next week.

  • +1

Looks like there are lots of these from other sellers at same or lower price. Are these better or why are these specific ones so popular?

Edit: looks pretty cool though so like the sheep I am I bought two, even though it was a massive hassle to get order through (kept saying a change was made after confirming in paypal and then it was sold out). After many tries (in different colors each time), it finally processed. So we'll see if/even they arrive.

  • Have this for a 2 year old. Pretty good. Just be mindful that it has a button battery. If accidentally ingested, can cause serious harm.

  • +1

    Thanks . Bought 2 for $15.

Glad you are going well ( info from the ama )

  • -4

Kmart sell them for $16 looks the same but you can't remove the button battery so maybe throw away when dead. But better than having a dead child.

    • +1

I'd be worried if you were handing your child a screwdriver to remove a button battery to swallow. Like really worried in your ability to be a responsible parent.

      • Maybe your kids aren't as smart as mine, my 4 year old is a rocket scientist.

        • +1

They're smart enough not to swallow batteries 😜

  • Thanks. Just bought one.

  • +1

This or the iPad Pro deal at officeworks?

    • +1

      Yes

  • Funny that adults are rating this item!!
I came across this at a friends place and found too impressive for the price tag.
His kids love it, and was received as a return gift from a birthday party. I think it is a great idea for a return gift for a certain age group.

  • Has anyone received it yet?

  • got mine in perth a few days ago.. like most ozbargain purchases havent opened it yet…
