  • +45

    I prefer the Jackson 5

    • +16

So you can blame it on the boogie if there's a power surge?

      • +13

Nah it's because they're simple to use like ABC it's easy as 123.

      • +6

        if there's a power surge?

        Can you feel it?

        • +7

          Beat it

          • @Tiggrrrrr: That's not a Jackson 5 song…

            Do better…

            • +1

@jv: It was still relatively Jermaine.

              Just stop doggin' him around.

    • +4

      and in black

      • +8

But if you're thinking about the decor,
It don't matter if it's black or white…

          You are not alone…

          • +2

@Sr11: Yeah there’s always the Man in the Mirror

      • +6

Trouble is you buy it in black and it turns white.

  • +1

Any options without illuminated switches? Cant use for the bedroom as its too bright

    • +2

Just set one up from last deal and they are quite bright.

    • I sleep with 2 of 4 illuminated switches on 2.5m away, it's not an issue.

    These powerboards are pretty bad.
Feels very cheaply made, it's a gamble how the sockets are lined up internally and will result in struggles trying to plug something in.
Bought a few of these when they were initially half price, one currently in use as some devices are permanently connected.
The others are sitting in the cupboard to be used as backups.
I use other boards for temporary use as these Jackson ones are just a headache.

    • Hmm I found they were great for $11 I got a couple of these to replace my old $20 Kmart ones which have bad sockets, maybe I just got lucky.

Any other brands you can recommend at similar price point?

      • Aren't they regularly in various brands at bunnings for about $15

    • +1

Every Jackson board I have is not lined up properly and have to jam in the cable for it to plug in. You’d think I’d learn my lesson buying them the first time, I’m at my 3rd board and it’s still shit, so no more for me.

      • have to jam

Keep the jam out of the board and they will last longer.

I wiggle my plugs to get them in, and it goes in pretty easily.

        • Trust me I know about the wiggles, that works on almost every powerboard. These Jackson ones did not work still with a little wiggle, even the cheapo reject shop ones weren’t that bad. I even have a Jackson european adapter which falls out on any sort of movement. I just got a few jackson stuff due to a family member working at a place that stocks them, so the prices were dirt cheap. Yet still not worth it

      Try Arlec https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-4-outlet-individually-swit…

They're $14.98 always, I find they're better build quality personally.

  • I've got the black power board and the only reason I have not switch back to my old power board is the USB outputs on my board. Anyhow the board switches are loud when switching on and off. It wouldn't kill em to use softer sounding switches.

  • +4

you have to make sure that plug is perfectly aligned before you put it in, else it's a dogfight to get them in.

  • +11

Im sorry mrs Jackson, but, I, prefer, Crest.

    • +7

      it's ok, you've apologised a trillion times.

    • +9

Never meant to make your cable fry
      I
Replaced the fuse a trillion times

  • -4

Don't really buy powerboards that doesn't also have USB-A/USB-C charging ports anymore.

  • +2

If you need to buy it, pricebeat at Officeworks for 5% savings then pay with 10% off TCN gift cards currently on sale at Coles

    • This is the OZB way.

    • Different model, they likely won't price match. Same product code though? But the switches are different…

    • wild ozbargain way

  • +2

Do these have surge protection? Cant see any info about the joules rating

      • +8

Safety overload is different to surge protection. This doesn't have surge protection.

      • yes to the above. surge protection is a more expensive feature

      • +4

Safety overload protection is surge protection

        No it's not.
        It's completely different.

  • It looks like okay switches too, not bad. Personally prefer Arlec instead though https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-4-outlet-individually-swit…

Had one of the ones with the orange LED switches (similar to this) zap me when I turned it on once, completely cracked the plastic switch. RCD tripped thankfully. Not sure it was 240V, likely just the LED voltage, but still.

If you need 8 ports and not individually switched, this is a good option. Feels quite high quality, 2 switches (1 for each side).

    • +1

Got a bunch of the 12-outlet no-switch ones from bunnings. 10-year powerboard sorted.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/889182

      • Yeah there's definitely cheaper available if you don't need switches, constant deals at bunnings on them

  • I have had this for years and works well in the cupboard for the printer and iron.

    Do recommend good quality

  • If you quality, get a used apc ups power board

  • I have been using these for 2 years now no problems

  • +2

Started using the extension cord + powerboard in one and it’s revolutionised our lives.

No more fighting over who sits nearer to the powerboard to charge phones/devices, it can also reach various lamps around the room. Obviously not suited for all purposes, but suited for a lot more than the standard powerbosed.

  • The switch always causing sparks.

  • I find the buttons annoying

    U_U

    normal switches better
