    Great deal!

OHH!!! A $60 apple TV…. That is really a GOOD deal!
and dont forget APple TV funds have NO useby date

    • +11

$68… if you feel like rounding the price, better to round it up to $70 in this case. Besides, you generally wouldn't buy iTune cards at their RRP.

    • -1

Actually I am usually a huge opponent to gift cards and their expiry dates. There is no real reason for adding an expiry date except to hurt the customer.

Anyway itunes cards are really great with their expiry. They expire after 24 months of no activity. If you keep buying apps (every year or so) then they will never expire!

I still have some credit left from the great 50% off itunes sale at Big W a few years ago.

  • +1

    wowsers!

  • Can this be flashed with xbmc?

    • +2

If it's an ATV3 which is almost certainly is, not yet, maybe never :(

There are alternatives, just do a bit of digging. I'm not saying any more.

      • +1

So there's been no reports of any progress on a Jailbreak at all for these?

        • Not that I can see, just the usual "we're working on it". Sooner or later some smart cookie will probably figure it out, but as of now, nada.

      • +5

        never say never.

    • Not sure, but aTVFlash are apparently working on a version for this

      http://firecore.com/atvflash-black

I do know that you can JB the latest one though so possibly!

      • +1

        No!
Firecore wait for others to jailbreak the ATV, point you to the jailbreaks when they're available, and then hope to sell you well-packaged applications, most of which others have written.
Firecore have no history of developing any jailbreaks.

        • +2

So they're one of these mobs that take other peoples work which is freely available and repackage and sell it to unsuspecting muppets. Not cool.

        • To be fair they do actual create some of the included Apps.

        • Where did I say Firecore had anytihng to do with the jailbreaks!? I said they're working on a version of their software for the ATV. And as many of my friends who have them can attest the software is a big improvement on XBMC and well worth the money.

However you're wrong anyway - firecore are behind the seasonpass JB.

          http://www.appletvhacks.net/2012/04/18/firecore-work-is-unde…

        • -1

LOL. "However" you are wrong again. Firecore create seasonpass however this is NOT the jailbreak. Seasonpass just takes jailbreaks (eg. pod2g's) created by others and packages them up in a nice user friendly app.

Fyi, Firecore app has NOTHING on XBMC except being much more dumbed down, which may suit some people I guess.

        • Have you even used XBMC on ATV?? I doubt it. If you had you'd know how limited it is in performance and support - this is not like the ipad XBMC let alone the x86 version. The ATV Flash media player plays all the HD clips we tested - XBMC not. Simple as that.

        • -1

I dumped my Windows 7 HTPC (running XBMC) for an ATV (running XBMC) so yes I have used it. Everyday for nearly a year.

If you choose a basic skin (I customised mine to look identical to ATV's default interface), then the interface's performance is fine.

If you're not running 1080p videos it's also fine.

          What ATV Flash doesn't have:
          *Wide range of plugins
*Real Library mode with TVDB and MovieDB scrappers
          *ABC24 Stream
          *Channel 7/9/SBS catchup
          *Web interface
*Remote apps on iOS and Android
          *sickbeard integration
          shall I go on?

"I do know that you can JB the latest one though so possibly!"
Sorry, you don't know because you are wrong.

  • Beats the old DIcks $109 with $20 itunes card by miles ($20)
I would have to pay close to the same amount to get a Raspberry pi with case delivered (~$50 from rsonline) and not to mention wait for an invite to buy and then wait 3 months for delivery, which I personally think its WORTH it. I will have both thank you (typing in greed)

EDIT: Price estimate for raspberry pi

    • +4

Bought my raspberry pi for $41.80 & found a nice case:
      https://www.modmypi.com/shop/raspberry-pi-cases for $14.38 including delivery.
FYI raspberry pi have recently announced that the manufacturer are making 4000 units a day :).
Check rs online & element14, I'm pretty sure it's click and buy with no invite needed. Dunno about the wait but will be way less than the 3 months I waited :)

      • +1

Wow, and in different colours, too. It's turning into a new iPodesque market. Raspberry Pi Socks next!

    • +8

      Beating old Dicks isn't cool.

      • -2

Beats the old DIcks $109 with $20 itunes card

        Beating old Dicks isn't cool.

Yeah but I think he means beating them for $109, though $20 of that is paid with a $20 iTunes card. Well that's how I read it anyway.

        • +8

          Obvious joke is obvious.

  • Any other special on the catalogue?

  • +21

I refuse to have anything to do with "Geek Saturday". You don't see Supre having a "Slut Saturday" sale. At least that would make more sense because I bet all the staff at HN aren't remotely "geeks".

    • +9

That's because its a "slut" day everyday at S(l)u(t)pre :p

      Not that I'm complaining…

      • +4

**…. quickly rushes down to local Supre to check on the sluts…. :) **

        • -1

          made my day :)

  • whats the other deals on the flyer? Todays paper?

    • On Herald Sun in VIC

      • so… N/A for other states?

        • Just heard on the radio then, confirmed at Erina NSW.

  • Awesome :) Except for the to-be-expected crazy crowds :( Not looking forward to that!

I am new to this AppleTV. According to Apple website :"AirPlay Mirroring and dual screen are available with iPad 2 or later, and iPhone 4S.". If I have ipad 1 and iphone 4, can I somehow do this? please help.

    • no, but don't confuse mirroring with normal air play of audio , media

    • pretty sure you can do mirroring with those devices with a jailbreak, but it would more than likely be pretty slow. I use airplay mirroring with an iPad 3 and ATV3 and even that is a little jumpy. but to be honest I haven't even tried with my iPad 1, but yes mirroring is different than airplay for playing music/youtube on your tv, that should work fine.

    • +3

What kind of sick people -ve tuanxiu comment when it is just asking others for confirmation.

    • you cant do mirroring i.e. web pages games etc. but with my ipad 1 and ATV3 i am doing youtube mirroring just fine, music does work as well. if you are after that. great deal. BTW.

      • Youtube is using AirPlay, not mirroring (on which any iOS device will do). No, you can't mirror with iPad 1 & iPhone 4 (I tried), at least, without JB (and as others pointed, you can't JB ATV3 yet). The only apps, I thought worth mirroring at the moment (without JB) - especially if you have kids - is ABC iView that will display full screen (most other apps like Safari will have black strip on the left/right on your TV due to different ratio, which looks ugly).

  • Any confirmation. Could it be another misprints/mistake? (I dont think so but..)

    • +1

I don't think it is a mistake - I also saw an ad on TV last night for "Geek Saturday" that also mentioned this deal and price.

  • Thanks Elijha, so I can still do normal air play of music and video (from my ipad1 and iphone 4), just can't do mirroring and dual screen. Damn !

  • Is this available online?

  • +1

Can you play any video files from the IPAD 3 on the Apple TV or is it just stuff you get through the Apple store only?

  • Good deal!

  • from tomorrow?

  • -1

This or an $88 WD TV from JB/OW????

    • The new version or old one?

      • This Apple TV and the old WD TV not the wireless one…

More for what files it can play - .mkv .avi .mp4? WD TV do those but does the Apple TV do them?

  • Is it in QLD also? - Anyone know….FANX!

  • +2

Just watch out for the typical Hardly Normal "franchise" problems, where certain stores don't know about deals or refuse to offer them.

  • Can you use this for recording free to air channels?

    • +1

      …..no.

  • Out of stock at HN North Hobart, not sure if they were doing the deal or not.

  • What's the "*1" next to the word bonus in the image? Full details appreciated.

    • *1 - limited to 1 per person. That would be my guess.

Last time HVN had an iTunes card deal, it was a painful wait to get cards activated. I wouldn't expect it to be any easier tomorrow.

    • *1. Bonus offer applies only with the purchase of the selected products. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer. Bonus can only be redeemed at the store from which the applicable product(s) are purchased. Bonus is not transferable for a discount, cash or gift card. For a full refund, all items must be returned in their original condition. Terms and conditions apply. See in store for details.

  • +2

If you don't buy movies/shows, this is completely useless. Get WD tv live where you can plug your external hdd…

    • +2

What about apps or music? And as imolared says below, you can buy Apple OS upgrades with the iTunes card. Not useless at all unless you have no other Apple products.

    • If you're referring to Apple TV, it's actually great for newer iPad and iPhone users. And also very good for Mac users who can take advantage of Mountain Lion's AirPlay - newer model Macs required.

I use one with a WD TV.does different things.

  • double post

  • +2

Thanks OP! Been meaning to buy another one for the other TV, most of my movies has been converted so I can stream from iTunes directly, also works great with Netflix.

Bonus cards will be perfect for the Mountain Lion upgrade that is expected to be release next week.

    Cheers!!

  • A lot of Victorian stores are showing no stock. Can I assume they are saving stock for the sale? Don't want to waste my time.

  • +6

Seems like it's available online. I just ordered one (with $6 delivery) and both the shopping cart and order confirmation email clearly show "Includes Bonus $40 worth of iTunes Cards".

    • +2

Yep, I can confirm I also purchased online and the invoice notes the $40 of iTunes cards.

I elected to pickup instore, even though my local store (Fyshwick) was not showing stock and it processed fine, stating I will be notified when available for pickup.

Saves postage (albeit only $6) if you aren't in a big hurry.

    • +1

I also ordered one online including $40 bonus, store pickup

  • Beating the queues as well. Ordered online with store pickup.

    • Just got an email….3 days until they have stock!!! Agggh!!!

  • I went To the Preston store in Victoria. No one here but no stock. They put an order through for me. Was able to order 2 and save postage.

  • Went to Sunshine (Vic) store, they had only 4 units left at 915am…
They assistant said it was no issue to back order it and get the same deal.

  • 9.01am No stock left at Alexandria Harvey Norman.

9.10 Got to Domayne Alexandria (Harvey Norman inside) I bought one. They only had 6 units left when I left. I asked.

    Glad I got up early…

  • Got mine at Liverpool Mega Centre. Took the last stock and got the cards activated almost immediately - the store was hardly packed. Product works great, been meaning to get one for ages now; next on the agenda is the New iPad :)

  • Got 1 at Greensborough (VIC) at 9.10am. Storelady going off that Apple should make a $40 card instead of taking twice as long to activate 2 x $20 ones.

    • She should have organized a $50 card for you and stop complaining.

  • No stock at Campbelltown, NSW store. I ordered one in and they allowed me to take the itunes cards today.

    • I got one from HN Castle Hill this morning saw 3 left. Deals as catalog show.

  • Was it just my store (Greensborough) or all where it was hard to take staff seriously with braces and big geeky glasses with the tape in the middle? I don't think they were too impressed.

  • I ordered one this morning to pickup at Melbourne QV which said they had stock then got an email that said:
    Items Backordered * 1 x MD199X/A Apple TV, Estimated Days Until in Stock * 8 :(

  • I just got couple of these at bundall store here in gold coast. Good thing they had enough stock!!

  • just wondering if any managed to get a price match from somewhere else on these?

    • Went to JB Hi-Fi and Big W and they didn't allow price matches on exclusive promotions. The Apple TV alone was only $99 at Big W though.

    hi ozbargainers,

please forgive my ignorance but can anyone explain what Apple TV does? what is it good for? I dont really watch movies or shows through itunes even if i own iPad2 & iPhone 3GS. Cheers

    • +2

the time it took you to write this sentence, it would be easier if you just write apple tv in google to find your answer

      • -4

If u can't answer it don't bother suggesting google. U cud have probably given one line explanation to apple tv than giving this silly reply.

        • +1

He "could" answer it but he doesn't want to help lazy ignorant people. Seems fair enough to me.

        • sometimes fellow ozbargainers can explain in a simple plain english about gadgets but obviously u 2 seem to be too proud with ur knowledge. dont worry it looks like google will be better than u anyway. as i said if u dont have anything valuable to say dont bother commenting.

  • Ordered one online at 8AM and with pickup from Cannington as the delivery option, also showed "in stock" during booking but received an email later saying it is delayed for 3 days :(

    • EXACTLY the same in BRisbane. May just pop in today to have a look. :-)

  • Backordered one at Fountaingate, VIC, just before the store closed, the guy said there were about a dozen backorder in the store after sold out. Thanks for the info

  • Seems like a good deal so back ordered online on Saturday night. Never purchased any iTunes cards. Should it be activated at store at the time of purchase? I thought it is a simple process and can be done any time at home.

    • Activated at the store, after which you scratch an area off for a code that you type into the 'Redeem' section in iTunes.
