Is this good value vs waiting for something to go on sale in the reward store?

    • +4

I redeemed for an item, and found that when comparing $/point value that gift cards weren't the best, even if I used sale prices for the items. However, if you don't have heaps of points, or none of the actual items interest you (are you sure? there's loads now!), or you have points expiring soon, then these cards are pretty reasonable value.

      • +1

Agreed with kwchaz here - if you have a large points balance, it's worth redeeming other things rather than gift card - most cases you easily get $0.031/point vs gift card of $0.21/point

      • I have like 10k expiring in April and nothing I want, so I'll probably grab some Amazon vouchers, unless something comes up! 😁

    • +3

Flexibility of buying anything of your choice comes at a price. So that could be the difference in $/point

    • Yep, buying something or even prepaid recharges were better than gift cards.

    • As an example, AirPods (out of stock) are 75,000 points.

For that point cost you can get $150 in Amazon gift cards so the AirPods are the better value as they are $185 at Officeworks, before any discount.

Takes a while to get 75,000 points though so you may have to just get a smaller gift card before your points expire.

  • +2

yes but knowing the telstra points department it will take about 2 weeks to get it.

    • +6

      Got mine instantly

      • so its digital is what your saying?

        • Yeah digital code right after checkout

      • Same. Got $100 gift card very quick. Make sure to do that 5000 pts for "recycling" your old phone :)

  • +1

Thanks OP. Managed to redeem $80. Never really saw value in other telstra plus offers. I use Amazon daily.

  • +8

I hope they do belong $80 pack for 2000 points again soon.

  • Got myself a $30 gift card for 15,300 points. Better use it before the points expire. Thanks OP.

    • How to check the points expire date?

      • +2

From FAQ: Points expire three years from the date you earned them.

        • Exactly why do points expire? Do they go bad and are no longer redeemable due to decay or something…

Otherwise this points expiry thing is a scam… we are just going to take this value off you because we can. I think Amazon is one of the only that have no expiry on gift cards? Exactly the way it should be… gift card expiry is the biggest scam ever imo.

      • support said only after 3yr NON USE of account.

  • I select Amazon and them it says no products available :(

    • Same but if you search for Amazon it will come up :)

  • +9

for some reason mine always says 404 when I click redeem on telstra website, live chat just says that it will fix itself in a few hours but it never does 😭

    • +2

I am getting error 404 also.

    • +2

      Same

    • Glad it's not just me then.

    • Are you currently telstra customer?

      • Not currently, ported out like a month ago. Is that why? 😭 Got 33k points forgot to use

        • +2

Even if you have no active services your Telstra plus membership is still active. You should be able to use your points still.

        • Same just ported out a week ago

    • Same here

    • Its been like this for a couple of weeks. I still haven't been able to redeem

      • its still the same

  • +2

I’ve been trying to order from plus store for months and get 404 error for every product I try

    • Are you a Telstra customer?

    • +5

I get this also on 99% of Browsers/Devices/Home internet/mobile internet, however for some reason it works on Firefox (Tested tonight, Silver Member)

      • +1

So good, this fixed it for me

      • No go on Firefox for ipad :(

        • For what it’s worth it was Firefox on Windows that did the trick for me

        • +1

Firefox on iPad or iPhone isn't real Firefox, because Apple insist all browsers on those platforms must use safari as their backend, or they won't let them in the app store. So it's Apple that are the issue there, not Firefox.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Thanks, OP, redeemed a $30 Amazon GC.

  • I have just used a bunch of points and payments because the exchange isn’t that great.

NOTE: Some items are only available on the rewards site if you are a GOLD TIER customer.

My parents are SILVER TIER and they used to use their points for a prepaid mobile broadband recharge: 50,000 points gets them $150 recharge code which lasts them 365 days and gives them 40GB of data iirc. For my 82 year old father, this is all he needs - I think he gets the prepaid phone one which is the same price 50,000 points = 50GB Data and unlimited calls I think.

My mother gets the same for her iPad and only uses the data when she is out of the house, otherwise it’s always on Wifi and she barely ever gets close to 40GB.

But these items have disappeared from SILVER TIER in past week or two weeks - pretty recently. They can no longer get them, but I just type the words “mobile recharge” and as a GOLD TIER I get the option straight away.

    • +3

I'm not too sure if this is the case, I'm Silver Tier with over 250,000 points and I couldn't get the Gift Cards to appear no matter what I did, would constantly 404. I had my issue escalated to Telstra Plus Support, the person on the other end couldn't work it out, escalated it herself and confirmed they weren't locked to Gold Tier only. She logged into my account on her end and was able to redeem a gift card for me, despite not being able to see them on my end. They still don't appear for me on most devices/browsers, however for some reason I am able to redeem them on Firefox now.

There's something extremely buggy going on. Obviously I would take most things Telstra support say with a grain of salt in regards to tiers, but it's definitely worked on my end lately.

      • Try exiting the app completely, login in again from scratch. Choose plus or rewards and log in again. I know they make you login about four times now.

I had to do the same last night, but once I quit the app and logged in from scratch again different screens appear.

You should be able to login on a computer using a web browser I think it’s http://plus.telstra.com.au/

Let me know if either option works. But I know I had problems so I quit the app and starts the rewards process from scratch and then it worked.

I had a case open for the rewards website for three months to get a WiFi booster 5000 points and then some cheap repayment price per month so either the web developers are not in house or they can’t code for sh*t. Every time I tried I just a picture of a Sad Cloud and the words “Something Went Wrong”. Super helpful to work out what info to give people.

BTW, I ended up getting a complaints manager to send me a one of those newer Black WiFi Boosters for free because I complained to the right person.

Open complaints, get them escalated. Follow up, you will be amazed at what some complaint resolution managers will give you to make you a happy customer.

        • Try exiting the app completely, login in again from scratch. Choose plus or rewards and log in again. I know they make you login about four times now.

Yeh I've tried an incredible amount of different solutions, and just tried the ones you suggested also, not sure what or why it's doing it, but nothing solved it besides Firefox for some reason, even on Silver Tier.

  • Each point is worth 0.002 (less) lol

  • Sweet, $100 onto my Amazon account. Thanks OP! Just bought a 3D printer so this will be good to stock up on some PLA.

  • Thank you for the reminder to use my points. I recall an export email a few months back.

  • +2

I also got with my 170,000 points, I used half points and half repayment on a Google Pixel 7 128GB and a Nighthawk M6 Pro also using half points and repay the rest.

This way no new upfront payment plan, I can stay on the same as I have now, and the $20 or $15 repayment goes onto my post-paid bill which just adds to more points.

My 5G coverage should be great inside the house, at the Window which where I recommend everyone put 5G devices as it’s easier to get a signal through. However my Nighthawk M5 5G is next to the window with a tower 800 metres away with two bands of 5G and I get faster speeds switching it to 4G/LTE.

I’m going to get an External 5G antenna it’s just 20 metres of Super Low Loss Cable - LMR-400 which what you need for any frequency higher than 2200MHz as that is as high as RG6 will go. You can get slightly cheaper LMR-195 cable you just specify when ends you want terminated from the company. Most LTE or 5G Hotspots have SMA connectors

Try near a Window where it’s easier for high frequencies to penetrate. Directional Antennas like a Yagi will always work better than Omni Directional ones. Speak to 4G/5G experts like Telco Antennas depending on where you live and they can recommend a solution.

Also download the app Aus Phone Towers for Android is better but iOS works but doesn’t give as much info. At least you will get an idea of where your closest cell tower is. Mine is only 850 Metres away and I have 4 x Bands of 4G/LTE and 2 x Bands of 5G

If people have their phones turned on 5G and their battery dies too quick, I suggest turn off the 5G option as your 5G reception is probably poor and using too much battery to maintain a decent connection. So the transmitter output power increases eating more battery.

This is well known even on 4G/LTE. Recently, I think it was Verizon or T-Mobile, in the USA said the same thing, “turn off 5G until you are in a better reception area”.

You can get some hand held signal boosters for phones but there not much help if you walk around on your phone. But if you want to do fast 5G data consider an external antenna. Getting the cable down a wall might be tricky. An electrician or better yet a data cabler might be able to do it if you aren’t very handy.

Consult some of online Australian experts who specialise in this sort of gear to advise you.

Back to points and the reward store.

Telstra give away a lot of points, every time you pay your bill, to 10,000 points because you have been waiting in a queue from the My Telstra app.

However the Gold Tier has a better range of rewards than Silver Tier. Hope my big long rant helps someone with 5G queries.

So at 15300 pts for $30 gift card, each point is worth about $0.002.

You get about 10 pts per dollar paid to Telstra.

    0.002 X 10 = 0.02.

You get back 2% what you pay to Telstra. That's not too bad. Probably better than most credit card points or like loyalty schemes.

    • +1

      You win the maths price

      • +1

        You lose the spelling bee

  • Just a note, if you redeem anything physical from the Telstra market and there's an issue, you'll need to make an appointment and it takes them 30 mins to "troubleshoot" and fill in the forms. Then they'll send it off and it's an approx 6 week wait to hear back about anything.

Page 404 error at checkout… nice job Telstra!!

  • -8

Meh…I can't even join Telstra Plus, despite trying for two years. For some reason my Telstra ID will not link up and I'm never able to confirm the account. I've spent hours with online chat, been into a T-Shop several times…nobody can figure it out, although they almost universally say it's likely due to my account being so old and coming out of the legacy Siebel System. Honestly, one T-Shop consultant's eyes glazed over as soon as he saw that and pretty much gave up on the spot, telling me I needed to speak to technical support online for help. If they ever do fix it I wonder if they'll let me have two year's worth of points as compensation for the giant PITA it's been?

    • -1

To all the neggers…I downvoted it because I honestly think it's a flawed system that's not delivering what it promises, thus it's not a deal available to everyone. Neg away if you wish, but it's not fixing the system.

  • Thanks OP for the reminder i had points that i was warned were going to expire soon but didnt really see much i wanted on there.

I bought amazon and then went to amazon and bought apple vouchers for my eventual M2 Mac purchase. Nice little free top up to get me there! :D

  • Considering I can redeem so many $80 Belong sim cards for 2000 points each and resell them, this isn’t a deal for me.

But a good option so thanks for posting

    • Where do you sell these? Also aren't these 10k points + 2500 pts for delivery?

  • +1

70K pts give you Apple Pencil 2nd Gen which is worth $160 (75K or AirPods) while 50,900 pts give you Amazon $100 credit.
In terms of points value, the gift card isn't as good.

  • 404'ed - can't check out any cards, uber, amazon.. kinda feels like a downvote needed but if it's working for others idk..
i've got 60k points to use up before April I think and have tried to checkout gift cards since I saw them a little while ago..

If anyone works out how let me know.

    • See the post from MBix - I had the same issues as you. I was able to search, find and redeem Amazon through Firefox (after having no luck across various devices and both Safari and Chrome)

  • Thanks OP, had expiring points and no rewards I needed, so $100 Amazon credit is much more useful.

  • I'm short of the $100 Amazon gift card by 1580 points, is there a quick and easy way to get these points or should I just not bother and go for $80 in gift cards?

    • +3

      3 x $30?

      • +2

This is the play, thanks man I didn't even think about it.

  • +1

Still getting a 404 trying to redeem some Amazon cards.

  • Does anyone know when the "hot deals" get released? I'm eyeing some stuff but don't want to pull the trigger if its like reduced like say the start of the month or something

  • Have they been removed? it was there this morning and now nothing is coming up.

  • Still getting a 404 as well. Spoke to a representative and they said to just wait 2-4 hours.

  • Thanks!

I was able to claim $30 amazon which I applied to my Hogwards Legacy pre-order 🙂 (only $58 to pay now)

  • To those getting 404'd or no giftcards showing up try Firefox where possible

No idea why but no matter what device/internet/browser I used nothing would work until trying Firefox.

    • +1

Firefox didn't work for me unfortunately, 404 still.

      • Dang, sorry! :(

I commented above but there's definitely something buggy going on with it all, I had it escalated within Telstra Plus' support team and the person was able to log in as me and purchase just fine, still on my end nothing would work until I attempted Firefox on PC.

The TPlus support team should be able to redeem it on your behalf like they did for me if all else fails, annoying AF jumping through hoops though!

  • Unable to process your order

Based on our assessment, you're ineligible to redeem this item.

  • approx 40% less value than buying a product

  • Waiting for another deal like the harman onyx studio 6

  • +1

Feb 01 - 1:09 PM - Worked in Google Chrome - Was getting 404 on all browsers for last 10 minutes when trying at add product from the main page however try to login through here as it worked for me - https://checkout.telstra.com.au/consumer/rewards?login=true

  • I have a lot of points that expire in May, prior to Christmas I just started redeeming the points on Xbox controllers. Now I have another avenue!!

    • Where do you see point expiry? I couldn't find it in the app.

      • +1

Not sure about the app, but on the main page once you log in you can see the tier you are on plus point amount on the top right hand side. But when you scroll down on this page 3/4 of the way down there's a rectangular box that details your reward points.and underneath that it tells you the amount that will expire and the date of expiry.

  • Unable to process your order

Based on our assessment, you're ineligible to redeem this item

  • Wrote to support about ineligible issue. The specialist couldn't fix it, said something about the assessment of the account (???) and recommended trying again after a month. But for the inconvenience applied a one-time 30$ discount for the account. Not bad, regarding I was trying to redeem a 50$ card.

  • I'm still in the land of 15K points for 2 x Google Nest Minis. Was able to sell them off for $30ea easily.

It's probably fine but $100 for 50K points just seems like a rip now. :(

  • +2

Still getting 404 errors and telstra support couldn't help.

  • Went in store in the end and spent my points there - interesting its been a week and my balance hasn't reduced!

  • thanks op, got me a $100 amazon gift card.

    • Did the checkout button work for you? I've been trying for days now.

      • +1

Yeh it did, i used the telstra app, went to the telstra store and searched for amazon the gift card option was at the bottom of the page. Unfortunately i am just short of enough point to get the $30 voucher so i cant try again.

        • Okay, tried the app but it takes me to the Chrome browser when I choose Telstra plus rewards. It doesn't work. Thanks anyway

  • I'm still getting 404's, has anyone else had this issue and managed to get around it?

    • +1

nope I even had a live chat and they said wait 48hrs. 48hrs later, same result.

    • +1

I'm also getting 404 since this deal got posted..

  • I still cannot get it to work! has anyone had any luck?

    • nah mine's still stuffed, tried contacting Telstra chat, they ignored the issue.

  • Has anyone found a workaround for this? The checkout button does not work on that site for any item that has the checkout option (ex: gift cards, etc).
No help from Telstra support they are the worst ever. None of the browsers work.
