  • Had to google this is a real brand of camera. Why wouldn't they keep using the Olympus name ?

    • +4

      since "Olympus has fallen".

    • I dont think they paid to use that branding ongoing.

  • -2

still expensive imo, missed the $632 deal of e-m5 from cameraclix. got sold out by the time i decided to get one.

    • +1

Lol wot, you're comparing different generations of the camera.

      • -1

        i have pentax kr with 35mm 2.4.

i can tell you picture wise, the jump isnt ps2 to ps5 comparing its results to latest cameras.

        • +1

Obviously you aren't the target market for these types of cameras then. Now you're comparing different sensor types d'oh

  • Also the OM-5 has Hand Held Hi Res mode. It's basically a cut down E-M1 iii in an E-M5 iii body, whereas the E-M5 iii was basically a smaller, cut down E-M1 ii with some improvements (such as OLED EVF)

  • Camera electronic contacted me afterwards saying more stock was coming in at 934 so you may be able to get the em5 for 734 if you're lucky. I don't think the price difference is justified if you can get the em5.

  • Do these entry level cameras offer any advantage if you already have a good camera phone like Pixel 7 or Iphone 14?

    • +5

These are not entry level cameras, but aimed at enthusiasts who want advanced features to fine tune settings. The PEN series are entry level.
If ISO aperture shutter speed triangle does not have a meaning to you then phone cameras are sufficient.

  • I got the EM-10 first gen, the focus system is really shitty compare to those sony ones, especially when record video. is there any improvement after all those years? I suppose I can still use my lenses on this model?

    • Yes much improved. And yes you can use the same lens.

  • I have an EM5II and was initially excited, but it is disappointing that the autofocus - while better than my camera and other older MFTs - wasn't changed from the EM5III. Of course, I get that they can't just make the (top end) OM-1 in a smaller body.

Also, a Micro-USB rather than USB-C port really looks stale these days, though IRL it probably wouldn't bother me much.

Also a shame they didn't improve the Menu system as they have on the OM1.
