What sort of lifetime is only 30 years?

    • +8

      a horse.

    • +9

Not a good deal for tortoises

  • +1

i read that it does not unblock USA netflix, what good is it if its called getflix and cant unblock netflix usa, any basic VPN can unblock netflix usa

    • when i was with them (admittedly a long time ago) they started some vpn service that would just capture websites they supported and it seemed to work pretty well

    • This unblocks Netflix USA if I put the dns directly in the TV settings (not Chromecast), well haven't tried the Chromecast
Edit : nvm just saw that it's a paid addon now

  • +2

What’s the $5 shipping cost? Or $0.98 handling cost? Isn’t it just an automated email sent on purchase? Also, pretty sure Netflix would shut it down well within a 30-year lifetime…

    • Yes, I agree not sure why that is the case.

    • -1

Yes. Its an online transaction. Nothing physical is being sent anywhere. And im certain netflix will find a way to shut it down. Guaranteed.

  • +2

    Not good enough,

    still gives 5 stars. wtf.

But yeah, for the money its probably worth it. Had it for years and gets the job done. Doesn't really work with Netflix though. But everything else is okay.

  • 'Lifetime'

  • Pretty sure it was around $39US on stacksocial about a month ago.

  • Lifetime
$5 for shipping and $0.98 for handling.

Firstly what is being shipped that they want $5.98 for?
Secondly yeah nah. Won't get fooled again.

    • Thanks to who corrected, it’s for gst. Still doesn’t explain the $0.99 for handling a virtual item.

    • your money being shipped to them

This mob is useless i brought the lifetime sub 5 years ago that was the now premium service then they canceled that at sold it as an extra so end up with a basic dns and they have zero apps for anything and crap service to top it off save your sanity look for something else .

    • +12

Same. The most useless lifetime membership I've ever purchased

  • +1

Is this just a VPN? Or does it give you access to streaming services?

    • I access the free Uk apps (bbc, channel 5 etc) and Italian Mediaset and Rai.

I just had a problem streaming Mediaset I logged a ticket and was sorted within 24 hours.

      • +2

You should be able to access all of those with a free / very cheap (ie Nord) VPN & not have to mess with your DNS settings.

        • +2

The DNS is easier set & forget. You plug in their dns servers & that's it you watch bbc iplayer, it goes via UK proxy, you watch NBC, it goes via US proxy, etc no need to connect to a new VPN server each time.

        • +1

          That’s what I think too.
          Get NORD VPN
          get Google Chromecast TV
Enjoy watching your streaming services in other countries.

  • +1

Won't this be blocked when the password sharing block comes in?

    • Is that for Netflix?

      • Yes, you wont be able to use network on a network that isn't yours apparently, effectively killing using VPN's

        • Goodbye turkey netflix if not already set with bank account here.

    • I reckon it will. That's why they're trying to fire sale meow.
Not sure how Netflix IP detection or similar will go in Aus though but pretty sure they'll know you aren't in US or similar

    • Very likely.

    • The way that it's currently proposed to work is the account owner will be sent a 'code' when there's a new, expired or changed login.
      Sort of like 2FA.
      Disney+ already do this.
Not too hard to work around.

30 years as lifetime…. so lame

    • -1

It is if you're a boomer all the way thru to many GenXers

  • +3

I got this "lifetime" subscription years ago from a deal here on OzB… back when US Netflix did actually work! They then canned it for the lifetime users :( You have to be a pay-by-the-month subscriber to get US Netflix now.

I still use it all the time though (might as well make use of it!), just not for Netflix anymore. You can use their DNS servers on various devices to allow Hulu and Pluto TV to work without issue, and I use the VPN a LOT.

    • +3

Yes, not sure why so many negative comments. I think it depends on what you are after, I use Italy and Uk a lot via smartdns and works well.

  • +2

Works really well for Hotstar, Zee, Sony Liv etc

    • -1

You still need subscription for those or is it free?

      • Of course you need a subscription

  • Does it work on chromecast with Google tv?

    • With smartdns you enter the details in the router (you can also add them to the wifi settings of the google tv). So yes it should work (currently works on iOS Apple TV, Firestick and android tablet for me).

  • +8

Don't be sucked in like I was. I bought their "lifetime" access years ago after an OzBargain deal.. the account was dumbed down to remove most of the premium features within a year.

  • +1

    Wow, there's a name I haven't heard for a while.

I purchased a lifetime subscription over 5 years ago just before Netflix made things more difficult. I haven't used it since.

I just recovered the account and logged in. I appear to still have most features and it shows a subscription end date in 2100.

    • +1

They obviously gave you the premium package and extended to 2100 because you never use the service, your the best customer. Pay and don't use 😂

  • +6

I had lifetime (through blog reward which they offered initially). They then "cancelled" my lifetime subscription (yes, I didn't know they could just do that after giving it to you) and when I complained, they said my blog site is not attracting much visitors and that it was pretty useless.

This mob is the rudest, most ruthless and no common sense internet business I've ever come across. I went around all review sites for a whole day and negged everywhere I could. It's the "principle" you know..

  • -1

Ah, trying to get sales before the new netflix changes come through.

    • Why was this negged? The new 7 day code system for foreign access is going to make netflix VPN's much harder to use.

Easily still doable; but a pain by comparison.

  • Obviously a deceptive sales tactic. A company can't provide an ongoing service for 30 years from a small fee now.

  • Had it for a couple of years, use it regularly. I don't have Netflix so for me it works well. I use it for BBC iPlayer, CBC Sport Canada and TVNZ. Crunchyroll USA for the kids. I just run the DNS on my android box rather than the whole network. An OK VPN service thrown in. I'd normally avoid a business that pulled something like the Netflix bait & switch from a few years back, but I can't find a service that comes close on price/performance. DNS4ME is apparently the gold standard but it's expensive. I used multiple VPNs to access these services for years and yeah they work, but SmartDNS is so much better - no server switching, direct internet connection for smooth streaming and updated to avoid any blocks so it just always works. For me it's worth it for iPlayer alone.

I was a Getflix user for a few years (on a non-lifetime plan). It worked ok for UK streaming geo-unblocking but was terrible for Netflix or full VPN.

The Getflix lifetime plans are limited compared to their regular plans.

Netflix unblocking capability is usually not workable on the lifetime plans, full VPN bandwidth has bandwidth limits applied (compared to non-lifetime plans) and support is basically “good luck”.

  • +1

I've had this deal for years and will chip in with a few bits people may find interesting (or not):

    1. Firstly as everyone knows, this lifetime account won't work with netflix
    2. For stuff like BBC iplayer it's great though
    3. Includes free VPN and some of them allow torrenting at decent enough speeds if you want that
    4. Used to also include socks access on some of (3) but that's been quietly dropped and docs not updated.
    5. Selective routing docs on their site are out-of-date and support will not give you any info here as they now consider the domains they proxy some kind of secret.
    6. They don't support any encrypted lookup tech (e.g. DoH, DoT etc)
    7. (5) and (6) combine mean you have to send them all your DNS traffic, and it has to be plain text so can be snooped on along the wire if that concerns you.

Generally they're OK, but this service is only updated when they have to and they frequently drop/change stuff technically without updating docs and with no consideration of anyone who may be using the service at any 'detailed' level.

Support is pretty good response times wise but they absolutely will not help anyone who wants to do anything 'clever' with their service. In fact, they're pretty annoying if you ever have to deal with them.

I just logged into mine via my android phone and after some time of not using it. My lifetime subscription expires on January 2100. From their site, got ads that say only paid subs get US Netflix but I can still choose to turn US Netflix on. Saw that they have an app now and installed it. Connected via US East and tested if I get US Netflix. I had to restart Netflix but home stills says Australia. But when I selected the movies tab, it started showing US Netflix. Guess it needed time to refresh. Tested and US netflix is still working for me. It sucks if others don't have access to US netflix anymore.

  • How many people could you share the Smart DNS with?

Or would it be just one router/residential IP?

Keen to get a family going

    • +1

There's a registered IP, I would assume only 1 residential IP

  • Cheers, makes sense!

I was paying $55usd yearly for a residential US IP from Torguard. Flawless for all streaming including US Netflix.

But am back sailing the high seas haha

    • Arrrrrrr matey.

  • +2

As above, dodgy company. I used getflix for a while until they offered the lifetime plan. After purchasing the lifetime plan, it was downgraded and is basically useless now.

This is nearly as bad as purchasing star citizen.
    Avoid!

  • For those here talking about the Netflix changes, please note that these appear to be revoked from Netflix, claiming they made a mistake.

    • +1

Yes, apparently it was meant for South America. Anyhow personally if that happens I will get rid of it.

    • I dont doubt they are gauging what people will do and flip flopping backpedalling on certain changes. Depending on the backlash.

    • They're still coming in March apparently, just might be a bit different

  • +1

Hope the company doesn't go belly up in my lifetime

  • Don’t get this. After paying for lifetime after being a monthly customer for a couple of years, they cut all of the services available and said that you need to be monthly to get access to overseas Netflix. It’s a scam.

  • Got this from here back in 2016 via a stacksocial deal. Funny enough, contrary to most people experiences here, works amazingly well for me. UK channels/US channels - BBC iPlayer, HBO, Prime etc all just work with one config - set and forget.

Also I just checked the "lifetime 30 years" subs now expires 1/1/2100. So its been updated at some stage. At this rate I can literally give this as inheritance to my kids! Sadly DNS and VPN will be outdated long before then, and ChatGPT-77 (or the Supreme LeAIder as it will be known at the time) will just stream shit straight into your brain.

If anything doesnt work, NordVPN (99% cashback deals) to the rescue. Prefer getflix though.

edit - Paid US $29 for it. Fair price, still using it.

    • Same here! I’ll change the listing then. I love getflix and have no problem with Italy, Uk. Plus I change the settings for prime so I can access other countries to watch different shows
