The unconventional single-cylinder engine has a special design: The cylinder head has been rotated 180 degrees backwards, which pushes the vehicle’s centre of gravity towards the front wheel. This makes the G 310 R more agile and easier to control. With the new electronic gas system – Ride by Wire – the throttle response is also always stable. And the self-reinforcing slipper clutch makes switching gears child's play when you are stuck in heavy traffic. In addition, thanks to the effective combustion and secondary air system, this bike meets the strict Euro 5 standards.

        I had my Ps, but I never went for my full licence and years later they told me I need to pay again and resit everything.

        These look pretty good, I reckon 5k on the used market in no time would be a bargain.

          Mate, Ps should automatically go to full after 1/3 years, and it merges with your car license anyway.

              It was 30min in a parking lot, bang you got your Ls

              Then a year later a one hour ride (my instructor pulled the pin 30 Min in as he could see I was fine) and I had my Ps

              3 years later full licence, nothing else.

              Mind you I think that is insane, having been a rider all my life (dirts since 12yr…road since 22yr) I think that the more experience people are forced to prove before they can jump on a superbike the better.

                L's was a written test in the morning. P's was a copper standing on a street corner saying "ride around the block" in the afternoon of that same day. 1 year later on full license, didn't matter if you'd ridden at all in that time.

                  @Fybre: Yeah different times my friend. The amount of people on their bloody phones whilst driving these days terrifies me. I virtually don't ride anywhere near the city anymore as people awareness on the roads today is absolutely dogshit.

                  Also the sedan to SUV ratio has changed so much and people seem so much more comfortable just merging or changing lanes in an SUV with no regard to surrounding traffic than they seem to have in smaller cars.

            • @0PriceJack0: Depends on the State - In NSW, once you have your P's, that's the end of testing. So L's test and then Ps test - straight onto fulls or "P2" depending on age and driver license, but no more tests

              • @the-fuzz: Thats for Car license here (VIC) too. But bike license is different. There is no P2 for bike license . As long as you get your Ps, you dont need to wear Hi-vest or display P plate on your bike. But still have to wait 2 years then go for full bike license test in VIC

          I came out from England with a full car and bike licence in mid 70s. In the UK at that time, you got the bike licence with the car licence, no need to have ever actually ridden anything on 2 wheels.

          Australia gave me a car and bike licence without needing any actual driving test, just a road rules test.

          Finally, about 15 years ago, my husband taught me to ride a motorbike. I was in my 50s then. Loved it. We kept the little Honda 250 for ages. Only got rid of it a couple of years ago.

          I suspect the RTA, or whatever they're called now, would be horrified. 🤣

      You'll be able to ride a CBR in the rain, and it'll cost you peanuts to fix when you bin it

        Servicing and parts are almost certainly not that expensive (though I don’t actually know). Bike servicing is more expensive across the board than cars anyway.

      Not really a comparison mate. I would compare this to a RC390.

      If you're an absolute learner and want to learn about bikes (like maintenance, preferred riding positions, what's your comfort RPM, just getting an appreciation of a two wheel vehicle) then I'll definitely recommend the Honda. It has enough versatility to allow you to know what you want next.

        You mean a Duke 390? G310R is upright riding position, same as the Duke. RC390 is a sport riding position.

        Get a chookchaser. DR650 or similar.

        No fairings to damage, drop it and just pick it up and ride away.

        • Funny enough, a mate of mine picked his new from the lot, had an accident on the way back home and was traumatised for a year never riding it.

          So yeah, motorcycle damage is one, mental and physical damage is another.

    • The cbr are gutless for even an entry lams bike. The servicing is actually quite similar between the bmw and Honda funny enough 😂😂

      • i was planning on the cb300r or a cb125f as it's my first bike (still a learner and cant ride on my own yet unfortunately)
        im such a cheap bastard i might get he cb125f as a commuter since the speed limit is 80kmh anyway on the way to work, it's so damn cheap and fuel efficient but no ABS and less safe than the bigger 300r

          Honestly get the 300 if that's your two options. I've had mine for well over 4 years now, and it's still thrills me whenever I'm riding.

          Fuel economy is not that much different (4vs5l/100km) and you always want that extra power to get out of sticky situations.

          It retains value well too, especially if you're looking at second hand.

            @sh4hp: That is pretty thirty, my old CBR500R only use around 3.5L per 100km and CBR250R Moriwaki Edition around 3L.

        I had a CBR250R and really liked it till it got stolen. Very reliable. The battery died but even after that I just push started it.

          The 500 is very very average. Ninja 400 is far better. 650R even more so and can derestricted.

    I'd personally get a SV650. Couple of grand more but it'd be worth it. Long time rider.

      I picked up a GSF1250 second hand low kms back in the day for 6600. There's a lot of people who change their mind about bikes, or just want to change bikes.

      I also recommend buying any old bike while on LAMS, as they are all overpriced, and then jump on a bigger bike later, as they tend to go for fair prices as you weed out all the wannabe riders who give up on it.

      Also for people keen on a single cylinder, I rode an enfiled a while ago and loved it. Not sure how good they are for reliability but a nice fun bike with enough power at 500cc

        BMW G 310 R was developed with the intent to increase BMW's presence in global markets.
        It was developed in both Europe and India.The design of the bike was originally engineered by BMW in Munich, Germany, and is built and assembled at TVS Motor Company's Hosur plant in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

        I don't think it's a bad bike but is definitely not of the same build quality as their other bikes and cars.
        It is really BMWs equivalent to the KTM 390 Duke, Yamaha MT-03, YZF-R3 and Honda CB300R.
        Probably okay if you want the BMW logo but there is definitely better bikes out there for similar money.

            I was referring to the fact these smaller-capacity bikes from more esteemed or luxury brands often carry a badge cost.
            If you're a learner who is only interested in getting into riding don't get sucked into the brand allure and marketing from BMW.
            The reality is most of the big brands are offering entry-level bikes using their IP and branding that are built by established Indian or Chinese automakers.
            It's not such a band thing but just further highlights the brand tax that is slapped on when purchasing one.
            For example, if you were in the market for a Ferrari would you still pay the RRP if you found out it was built in Thailand not Italy, I think not.

            KTM is partnered with Bajaj Auto in India and CFMoto in China
            BMW is partnered with TVS
            MV Augusta is partnered with Loncin Motor Co Ltd and Qianjiang Motorcycle
            Benelli is actually owned by Qianjiang Motorcycle
            Royal Enfield is actually owned by Eicher Motors

            My advice would be to stick to the majors that sell a decent volume in Australia and actually manufacture the models themselves and don't farm out manufacturing to the cheapest bidder. It is effectively a race to the bottom.
            Any of the big Japanese manufacturers should be a good bet.
            The other manufacturers can only really compete on price hence why they cut manufacturing costs.
            Look in your area for the most prevalent dealer network and the cost of servicing the bike.
            No sense in getting a BMW or Ducati if you have no dealers around you.

            Another thing to consider is the cost and availability of parts either new or used should you have a bingle.
            I can bet you'll be able to actually get parts for any Japanese brand either new through a dealer or used online off say eBay.
            I can't say the same thing about CF Moto, Royal Enfield or even these lower RRP BMW models.

            Personally, my preference would be towards the following models for a beginner looking for a solid LAMS bike.
            In no particular order;

            Yamaha MT-03 or Yamaha YZF-R3
            Kawasaki Ninja 400
            Honda CB300R or even a Honda CB125E for a lower entry cost and pure basic bike.

            In the case you're after something a bit bigger cc a good bet is a LAMs variant Suzuki SV650.
            If you want something a bit more up market you can pick a used LAMs Ducati 659 fairly cheap.
            However like the SV650 it is a bigger engine so keep that in mind if you're just starting out.
            The Triumph Trident 660 is also a good thing but is way too expensive new for its offerings.

            Read reviews/blogs, go for test rides and shop around from dealer to dealer for a good deal if buying new.

            Anyway, just my unwarranted 2 cents worth.
            Oh and dress for the slide not the ride.

            The bmw feels solid and easy but the riding experience is dull. Surprisingly well put together from what I can tell

            Husqvarna is slightly less well built but still good, much better looking, common parts as it’s a KTM underneath, and similarly priced. Way way better to ride.

          TVS is a pretty good manufacturer with a pretty decent track record in raid and rally competitions. But as @GutterThump pointed these are built to a cost. The advantage being they wont be as costly as bigger beemers to maintain.

        I may have gotten the country wrong, but im not going to fall for your bait. you should really think before you type.

        BMW had planned to begin production in China in 2020, but Covid put a stop to it, these are still being assembled in India with engine parts made from factories in China and Austria. So im not totally wrong. Research on youtube reviews of this bike for that.

        It is well known in the BMW community that the quality standards on these are garbage and a Jap bike will run circles around this. The reviews are indeed terrible.

        how do i know? i own 2 BMW S1000RRs and a Nine-T. i rode this around Eastern Creek on BMW VIP Ride day and would not recommend buying it.

          A google search on this bike mostly gives mostly positive reviews so im not sure what you are talking about. The bike you own is $30000 vs $7000 so what's your point?
