[Unobtainable Deal] ChatGPT Plus Subscription $22 USD Per Month @ OpenAI

Moved to Forum: Original Link

So it seems like OpenAI has enabled us Aussies to upgrade to a ChatGPT Plus subscription.

If you log into ChatGPT, on the bottom left it'll give you the option to 'Upgrade to Plus'

Benefits to ChatGPT Plus include:

  • Available even when demand is high
  • Faster response speed
  • Priority access to new features

Probably worth it for some of you.

Edit: Keep in mind the free version still exists so don't get it if you don't feel like you will benefit from it. But originally the monthly price was going to be over $40, but it's instead $22, so I thought it was worth posting here.

Mod: OP put the price as A$22 instead of US$22. As this is the incorrect price, the dealis unobtainable.

  • I read this as icq

  • OMG, this is 95% cheaper than a university degree!!! LOL

Wow, shocked they would charge this much but hey, cheating ain't cheap.

    • +7

If a beta version of an AI in 2023 can already answer all of the questions in your degree, then your degree has no value.

      • +2

Guess Arts degree are only useful now.

Gonna be free on microsoft edge bing!

    • +1

Probably a limited form of it, and only on Windows 11 bc of some bullshit coding reason.

      • C#

      • $10b gets whatever microsoft wants.

  • +5

There’s no discount. How is this a deal?

  • Can I use ChatGPT to do things like write apology/insult letters or bedtime stories for kids?

    • +6

      Yes

    • +4

Write an apology letter in the voice of a 3 year old

      Dear [Name],

I am sorry for [action]. I did a bad thing and I feel sad. I promise I will try to be better and not do it again.

      Love,

Write an scary letter in the voice of a 3 year old

      Dear Mommy and Daddy,

I hope you are doing well. I wanted to talk to you about something that has been happening to me lately. Every night, I have been seeing a scary monster in my room. It has big eyes and long, sharp claws. I try to hide under my covers, but I can still hear it growling and scratching at my door.

I'm so scared, Mommy and Daddy. I don't want the monster to get me. I can't sleep at night and I keep having bad dreams. I think the monster is trying to come into my room to get me.

Please help me. I don't want to see the monster anymore. I want to sleep soundly at night without being afraid. I don't want to see him again.

I love you both very much.

      Your scared little boy,
      [Your Name]

    • Your life or chatGPT?

      • ChatGPT, can be given to someone else before you die if you haven't got kids.

    • +5

That is not ChatGPT… It's either a company with their own AI or trying to make a quick buck by fronting with their own app.

  • +2

    What's the RRP?

    • $22 per month.

  • +2

ChatGPT Plus Subscription $22 Per Month

How much it usually costs per month? Just trying to transform a deal out of this generative preloaded post

  • +1

Early adopters have to pay up. Soon enough, search engines will offer similar functionality for free.

    • Bing has a waiting list.

  • So does chatgpt do a similar thing to me asking Alexa?? I don't see the difference

    • Alexa has no memory. Makes a huuuuge difference

    • +1

The difference is like asking a 5yo a science question, vs asking Dr Karl.

      • Trust the science

  • +5

It's already free. I have never had issues with ChatGPT being unavailable or slow. Not worth it.

    • +1

that means you don’t use it enough

  • +9

Used it several times for programming problems resulting in hours of saved work. It didn’t always get things right, in fact most times it is slightly wrong first time around, but with its ability to keep with the context of the chat you can keep going back to it, telling it the errors etc. and work through it like a programming buddy. Looking forward to seeing how this tech grows over the coming year or two.

    • +1

      same

Not sure I'd pay for it in its current form though, and being 100% accurate isnt what its current goal is (we're all just feeding it more and more language and context inputs into its training set, hopefully in an aim to better the AI based understanding of context and random sentence structure), though I'm pretty sure its able to produce simple code solutions for example better than most recent uni graduates, so its pretty impressive for the current state of release that it is :)

    • +1

      This, bye bye stackoverflow

  • I saw that it was available since yesterday however I could not justify it at the moment. I would wait for more competition

  • +1

It is still a game. Not yet.

  • +1

Free with bing. And more funcions.

    • +2

      Funcions?
      Chatgpt en espanol?

    • How? And where. Bing and Edge apps don’t have it, that I can see.

  • is this cheaper than the regular price?

  • +1

The benefits aren't worth it for $22/mo…

    • +1

It is if you are using it to make money. Not worth it otherwise.

      • +3

Ask it how to make $23 per month, winning.

        • +3

Just asked it and not super happy with the response.

"As OpenAI's GPT-3 language model is a free service, there is no cost associated with using it, including the "ChatGPT Plus" subscription. Additionally, I do not have any information about a "ChatGPT Plus" subscription, so I cannot provide specific advice on how to pay for it."

  • +7

How is this a deal? What's the regular price and how much is the discount for it to be considered a "deal/bargain"? I have been using it regularly for the last month without any issues.

  • +1

This is a bargain, I have subscribed just in case it is a mistake and they take it away!! It is indeed faster, appears more reliable. A bonus as I will be using this heavily next week.

    • +2

'just in case it is a mistake and they take it away!!'

Relax mate. It's not going away.

      • ChatGPT isn't, the performance based sub is what I was worried about.

        • -2

And that's what I mean. Why would it?

          • +1

@scuderiarmani: I'm very fortunate I didn't listen to you. ChatGPT is now waitlist only to subscribe and is gone during the day for free use. I feel very lucky to have subscribed.

            • -2

@altitudinous: $32 a month. I can think of better ways to waste money.

              • +1

@scuderiarmani: I'm getting superb value, and I'm making far more than that from it. Once more, I'm glad I didn't listen to your poor, incorrect advice that it wasn't going away.

  • Much cheaper than go to uni, and very helpful for pass the code test during the interview 😃

  • +1

Not a deal, no discount, no RRP. Next time Mars or Coca Cola introduce a new product, will it be posted here? No.

And on this pricing, they can jam it. This is just because some big players like Microsoft became big investors so now they are trying to milk it for money.

  • +2

Sorry I really don’t see a deal here.

    • +2

I think it's for the cool points from having "ChatGPT" in the title.

"So it seems like OpenAI has enabled us Aussies to upgrade to a ChatGPT Plus subscription."

If this news is the first line, maybe it will be relocated to forums.

      • +1

Yeah I see it as the old PS5/Xbox at retail price argument. But at least with that situation people were actually getting a tangible product.

I can see 99% of people that pay for this will use it for a couple hours then never again, it’s no cheaper than it’s regular price so both by my own humble opinion and the basis of this websites existence there’s no real deal here. I agree, forum post for sure.

        • I have been aware of it for awhile, but never really had any interest in trying it.

The coolest thing I think I have heard is you can now "sideload" it or "connect" it to your smartphone assistant. At least you can with the iPhone according to a youtube video I watched. Not sure if you need a premium account or not.

But yeah you can name it to whatever you want, so if you name it "John" then you can say "Hey John", then it pops up just like Siri. But gives much better answers. e.g. like actual answers instead of 3 links to the answer that Siri does.
Another example was it being smarter with your natural responses, like "Shiela is going to be home soon can you make sure the front porch lights and airconditioner are on just before she arrives." or another example was "my feet are burning when I got out of the shower (turn off floor heating)" and it understands perfectly and works properly.

        • I don't see that being the case since the free version still exists and I don't think that's going away. But yes, the fact that retail Xbox and PS consoles were being posted again and again, I thought that maybe mentioning this once - especially since the original suggested price was going to be over $40 made it worthwhile.

I'm a bit of a nerd and I use it to help run D&D/adventure games with my kids so for me, I gain some use out of it - more use than I currently get from Netflix.

  • +1

Apparently costs something like $0.02 per generation. So you'll need to do 1100 prompts per month to start costing them money.

  • +1

Upvoted once again solely to spite the anti-RRP brigade

    Waiting for Zimbabwe pricing

  • +3

    Not a deal.
This is an ad or, at best, a PSA.

  • Why is this a deal hmm

While you can use it just with lower response rate

  • Will most likely sub as I've been using it quite a bit and during peak hours can barely get access.

Also, i believe the upcoming AI powered Edge + Bing will have a more powerful version of chatGPT integrated.

    • coming up as $20 for m

      GST exempt?

      • Nah its actually $22, just didn't proceed to checkout where the GST gets added, my bad.

  • +1

Not a deal. Literally first retail full pricing of first retail product of the type from the company.

This isnt a news site. This isnt a spam site. This is t a deal.

  • 22 usd?

  • +1

How is this a bargain deal?

  • I've used it for coding and found it sometimes invents new functions that do not exist. It 's ok if you already know how to code and make minor adjustments to its answers. Otherwise, I will wait for a few more years for it to get better.

  • I don't see how this is a bargain

  • +2

Unlimited qty, no expiry, RRP, not a deal, maybe move to forums

  • +4

Commenting so I can neg this. OzBargain isn’t an advertising agency.

OpenAI was 100% free a few days ago, and they’ve added this charge for prioritise access.

    It’s not a “deal”.

  • +1

Just a remind this is US dollars.

  • This is an ad, not a bargain.

  • Bring back windows mobile with chatGPT as assistant

  • +1

Commenting so I can give this a neg vote. This is not an advertisement plaza.

  • What are people using this for?

  • It keeps giving me the USA subscription option. Anyone know how to access Australian subscription option?

  • Maybe ok if you can claim for tax as educational / software or something. Or charge it out as an employee 😂

  • +1

I don't want OzBargain to deteriorate like this

    • You should see some of the Rep posts on here, shocking.

Where are all you neggers then.
