    Can’t see the discount.

    • +1

      You and everyone else.

No idea how the OP got a discount.

  • Now just bring us a cashback offer to bring this price lower!

  • +3

    Says $200 for me.

  • Says $200 for me too.

  • Yeah, how to get discount?

  • Can't see the discount either.

  • Cant see the discount anywhere on the site 🤷🏽‍♂️

  • $200 here too

  • No discount still showing $200

  • My wife and I are on annual plans expiring in January and March. I renewed eo Jan for $170 noting that the offer expired 21 Feb and was contemplating renewing my wifes early at the discounted rate. The offer has since disappeared…

  • No discount

  • +1

My Boost is about to expire very soon, on the 17th of February, and I can see the $170 offer.

    • Mine expires on the 17th and can’t see it anywhere.

  • I see it

  • -3

    Too little, too late.

When Optus MVNOs are offering 120GB for $120 ($1 per GB), the maximum viable price for a Telstra based MVNO is $150, and this is $1.3 per GB.

Boost, you need to concentrate on keeping your existing customers as much as you do attracting new.

    • +10

where on earth did that value assessment come from?

and it's not just any Telstra MVNO, it's the only Telstra NVMO that has access to the entire Telstra 4G/5G network.

      • JB Hi-Fi is close behind although their pre-paid offers are very limited.

    • +3

Optus reception, too little too late

    • You aren't comparing apples with apples.

Your comparing Optus vs Telstra NVMO.

      • +1

Both are providing mobile phone services - you can't get more apples to apples. It's literally the same role.

You might consider the wider coverage of Telstra to be worth something, but in cities (where most people live) it's swings and roundabouts (some real Telstra blackspots), and so it's difficult to justify more than $10-20 difference in price at this level for the occasional trip to the back end of nowhere.

Would be interesting to see if Boost's subscriber numbers are falling off as they try to push prices significantly beyond those of the competition.

        • +3

It's only like for like if they provide "the same" service. Optus is widely documented as inferior to Telstra NVMO, so no, they are not the same.

"The same role" argument could be used as follows "there is no difference between any car ever because they all provide the same role, car transport." It's not really true is it? I know that's a lazy strawman, but let's use a better example, internet provider for NBN households. There's a surprisingly big variance in service levels when they're all using the same network isn't there?

The poiny of my reply isnt to change your mind. I don't care about that and honestly good for you that you have choice of provider. I want to help you improve your arguing skills.

          • @Shroomlet: Well, if we are talking about arguing skills, then when you ARE comparing apples with apples, as we are in this case, its inappropriate to attempt to deny it. For your point to be valid, we'd need to be talking different categories, or in different countries. We aren't.

Or to put it more simply, we can reasonably compare Granny Smiths with Gala apples.

Now, for most people, who are living in urban or suburban areas, the coverage and performance are comparable between Optus (98.5% population covered) and Telstra (99.4% population covered). The only time it begins to become noticeably different is for those who are very much in a rural area - where you will already know which provider is best for you.

Near future is going to get more interesting, with satellite coverage giving emergency reach to all of Australia for whichever provider gets there first - a jump from 27% land coverage to 100% for when you are out bush. At the same time 5G mixing things up with an NBN replacement, bringing the focus back to suburban coverage; will really start to differentiate offerings again. Maybe in future Optus and Telstra won't be apples to apples.

        • +1

For your use case there might not be any difference, but if you spend regular time in certain rural areas you'll find Optus coverage lacking.

If you're sticking to the cities you likely won't see a difference.

          • @AlanHB: Use Optus of you don't value your privacy.

As a user with both providers, Boost is definately better in terms of reliability and download speeds for me in Sydney.

  • Can you recharge using a starter kit? I.e. transferring your old to new service using the same number?

    • +1

Not typically but some people have had luck in contacting support via live chat and giving them a story that you purchased the starter kit thinking it was a recharge or whatever.

As in try to get them to apply the kit as a recharge.

      Hit and miss though.

      • +2

Have done this the last time. Basically just asked them if they could port it for me to the new sim instead of me needing to port out and port back into boost. They did it for me no issues.

      • +1

I’ve had success. No story just asked them to activate it and move my phone number across.

  • +6

Can't see it, mine is expiring Mar 02. Contemplating on moving to Woolies, primarily for the 10% groceries discount and eSim.

    • +1

Im doing this. Similar $/Gb and it pays for itself via 10% off

  • First recharge only?

  • +2

I don't know if inflation hits this one as well but last year we got $50 discount on our yearly plan $200-$50 = $150 for the 130gb yearly plan

  • +2

Been with Boost for 4+ years. Seeing $200 ;(

    • I've been with Boost for almost 8 years and I'm seeing the discount. My yearly recharge is due to expire on 04/03/2023. Weird, I don't know how they determine who gets the discount and who doesn't…

  • I have a boost service that expired last night and still shows $200 for me 😔

  • -3

This deals seems shit. My friend has https://colesmobile.com.au/ with $169 for 200GB and every year he just makes another account with the same number. I prefer woolies since I shop there and it ends up cheaper anyways.
.https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/plans/long-expiry-plans if you spend once a month $50 (cause of the Get 10% off your grocery shop once a month deal) you get $5 off * 12 = $60 saving. So for the $200 for 200GB ~ $140.

    • +2

      Same mobile reception, though?

      • I think Woolwoths is Telstra network and Coles the Optus. I think Boost is the Telstra network.

        • +3

fwiw Boost uses the full Telstra retail network, which I believe is a different service class to Telstra wholesale (Woolworths) - If I remember correctly Telstra wholesale was supposed to match Optus in terms of coverage. I think another benefit of Boost for now is that if you recharge before April you get uncapped 5G speeds.

    • The deal is good, but it depends on what you need. I travel rurally a lot, so Boost/Telstra is the only provider which has coverage in some areas. Coles uses Optus and Woolies uses a limited Telstra network.

      • -1

Yea I guess that's rough being locked in provider for that reason. Though most people don't travel so.

    • Lol @ your username

      • +5

Didn't realise you couldn't change ur username for a year :|

  • +2

This worked for me! Thanks op.

I was 4 days away from expiry, previously on $300 for 240gb.

  • I think discounts only shown couple days before plan expire, mine expire tomorrow and i can see the discount last night.

  • Thanks op, worked for me too.

Mine expires on 14th of Feb.

  • +1

    $170 still feels too much

    • +7

This is Ozbargain. $1 is too much.

      • +2

this is Ozbargain, free is too much

  • +1

I'll be trying out woolies mobile after my belong free (with telstra points) credit is used up. $150 for 100gb on telstra wholesale network (has been fine on belong) and 10% off groceries once per month. On a $125 shop a month can essentially give you a free phone service for the year. - https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/plans/long-expiry-plans

  • +1

I had a targeted message in december for a discount that was never applied. Chased it up once and forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder to blast them again about charging me in full.

  • I have the deal, thanks OP!

  • +1

Used to be $150 for more GB. I guess it's still acceptable enough for Telstra coverage.

Telstra is offering $250 for 200gb which might be better for some: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/756231

    • Hi, do you (or anyone else?) happen to know whether it's currently possible to directly port from Boost to Telstra prepaid?

      • from previous experience its not possible, however it was maybe a 15 min process in the Telstra chat to sort it out

        • Thank you

  • +7

I remember in my first year with Boost, they sent me a reminder weeks before my plan was to expire. Unknowingly, I renewed my plan thinking it will just continue on once my current plan expired. Nope, the annual plan stared the day I hit renew, and lost the remaining weeks left. So be careful of this renewal trick.

  • Both my plan and my daughter's expire tomorrow. Discount shows up for her but not me!

  • +1

Mine expiring in first week of March. I may go for Woollies, they now have promo $180 for 180gb (instead of $200), plus 10% off grocery shopping once a month, seems a decent deal. Offer ends 21 Feb.

    • If you don't know what the coverage is like,
you may be stuck with the 12-month Woolworths plan that you may not like.

  • +5

I was able to get a $30 dollar discount through the Boost chat without the targeted deal. Worth trying if you have not been targeted and need to recharge. I recently recharged my plan and paid $200, and they processed a $30 refund afterwards.

    • I did this too.

    • What did you say in the chat to get the discount?

      • I said my original plan gave me 140gb and I am wanting to recharge again so I would either want more data or a discount

    • I tried this, on your suggestion, and failed. Moved to Woolies. Better deal with the 10% off groceries anyway.

      • +1

Better off grabbing Boost when it's $170 - $40 cash rewards (used to get it down to about $150 anyways price matched at OW before any type of cash rewards only a year ago - base deals don't seem anywhere near as good these days.

        • Yeah, well, the Woollies plan afforded me a month of waiting for a better offer, but I'm not quite sure what to do if nothing comes through.

  • +1

Wait… It used to be $150 for 100GB + 40GB (bonus data) =140GB which is the one I'm using now. But its $20 extra for 10GB less now?

    • I paid the $170 and somehow ended up with 150gb. Go figure

  • I had this deal show up when I renewed a couple weeks ago, assumed it was standard or for those who used to be on the cheap plan

    • Yeah same, I'm surprised that they're not offering it to everyone who was originally on the old cheaper plan.

  • i got $170 last week after one year with boost. Rest of the family didn't as they have been with boost for a few years. Must be for those who havent had their first recharge yet.

  • I'm on a 280gb Boost plan that's ending in 15 days. Still $200 for me…..

  • I changed provider last week because $200 for 140GB is just too much, this deal was not showing.

  • Not really a deal, paid $130 after $40 cashback not long ago. Even then it used to be cheaper before any cashbacks say $150, and with bonus data.

  • +1

I have spoken too customer service a Boost my $200 130gb does not expire till 31/10/23 they said that they will when l recharge when due too pay $200 they will refund $50 ending up with a enter deal

    • I meant too say l have ended up with a better deal

    • What did you say to get $50 refunded?

  • +2

I asked why they offered discount to some clients and not all. They looked up my expiry date and said pay $200 and we will refund $50

    • I had to battle to get a discount. They offered me $30 off

  • +1

Just recharged. The deal expires 01 March 2023 according to the email receipt https://imgur.com/a/1aKYzMo

  • +1

Boost wouldnt offer anything for loyalty, not worth it

  • Mine expires tomorrow. I don't see the discount either. Chatting with an agent now.

"Thank you, XXX. We have a recharge offer but it is for selected numbers that was migrated from our old system to the new system. The offer is being provisioned by the system to the number. Apologies for we don't have the option to attached a discount to a specific number."

"I checked your account and the number is not provisioned with the discount as you were already been provisioned with this last year. If you can remember you only paid for $150 recharge for a $200 package. The recharge offer that we have is to help customer with the recharge after migrating from our old system to the new system and it is not an ongoing recharge offer. Apologies for that."

"I really wanted to, XXX. However this is being provisioned by the system and we are unable to amend the offer. Your number has been added with the $50 discount last year and we are unable to manually add it. Hoping for your understanding."

  • Incase if anyone interested, try to have a chat with support.

I just got $50 refund and 30Gb bonus data on my $200 12 month recharge.

I never got any mail or message for the offer, just a reminder to recharge today( plan expiring tomorrow).

  • +1

Me and my husband received the offer today:

XXX, your recharge expires in 21 days. Get $30 off when you recharge $200 using credit card or PayPal by 04/04/2023. Plus get 20GB bonus when you recharge $200 before 26/03/2023. For use in Aus, within 12 mths.

Both of us also jumped on the $50 discount last year. Will recharge mine but will move my husband's to Woolies for 10% off groceries.

  • I'm up for renewal and have the targetted offer, but will need to upgrade my plan to the $300/240Gb plan due to a change in usage patterns.

Has anyone had any luck getting boost support to apply either the discount and/or extra data if they upgrade to the larger annual plan at renewal time?

  • It's worth giving them a call if online chat advise they can't provide the discount. Chat told me no, then called and they offered a $30 refund after I recharge.

  • I received targeted offer with $30 discount and additonal 20Gb but wife only got the additional 20Gb on it's own, rang and the service officer straight away processed $30 as a refund for wife's account too, no problems, will just a take a while for it to go through. Made sure to get a reference number for the refund as have been promised promo's/refunds in the past from Boost and they needed a follow up to actually happen :)

  • I bought the Long Expiry $200 sim off eBay for $175 + got $17.63 ShopBack cashback with 140 GB Data.
Got a message after activation that 5G speeds will be uncapped for 6 months.

  • Did the same thing. Had to call them and argued to get a $30 refund.
