Australian Made Timber Desktop Tower Stand - $192 (RRP $240) Delivered @ Maram

TSOZ20

G'day All,

We're a small furniture designer and maker based out of Melbourne, today we're officially launching our desktop Tower Stand. As part our launch we're offering the OzBargain community 20% off the stand's retail price until the end of the month. All our stands are made from Vic Ash, American Oak and hand finished in natural oils.

This stand came about from a customer request for a simple desktop stand to keep it off their carpet and away from dust. They weren't a fan of placing their tower on the desk and wanted a floor stand instead. After a few more requests and using one myself, we've decided to make this part of our collection.

The stands dimensions are 28(W) x 59(L) x 9(H)cm, it's quite chunky and weighs about 5kg. Lead time is 2 - 3 weeks from order placement. Reach out if you have any questions or are after a custom size or colour.

Hey mate, good on you for setting up and having a crack at your business venture.

Get ready for the onslaught in the meantime

    • +1

Thanks mate, it's all part of the learning process!

  • +16

You've gotta be taking the p!$$

    • +4

      And it's started

  • +7

maybe this is for rich people

    • +2

Op, be sure to check in with whirlpool forums

    • +1

No, the wood is too cheap quality. Rich people want old growth tasmanian forest wood

      • or American Walnut

        • Old growth* American walnut

None of this sustainable plantation junk.

  • +11

Wow, some scrap off cuts, bit of a sand and clear coat and $190. Does anyone actually buy these?

    • +11

Some people are easily getting paid >$50/hr. And unless you have the tools on hand, it'd take you a lot longer than 4h to make.

It's definitely not mass market, but that's not what op is aiming at.

      • I think most of their money spent on the website and graphic designer. 10/10 nice and clean.

      • +1

Spot on incipient, on a good day each one takes us about 2 hours from start to finish. Include the materials, packaging and shipping costs and our margins become quite tight but that being said we missed the mark here price wise and could have tried to offer more of a discount.

        • +1

Totally understandable but Ozb is the wrong market. You need to promote to the high end customers and the items that they prefer, ie wine rack etc.
Or forces on custom made bigger projects, instead of timber Desktop Tower Stand.

  • +11

this looks like the board where you chop off your little finger when you are unable to pay your debt to Yakuza

    • +3

You should think about a career in marketing because you've actually made me think this is cooler than what it is.

  • +3

wheres the rest of the desk

    • +4

      right here

      • Dang that's a nice looking desk too

        • +1

It is a really nice looking desk. If OP wants me to road test one, feel free to slide into my DMs.

  • +1

can i use this as a chopping board?

  • +1

Not a chance. I don't mind paying for quality furniture but this is a product that i doubt anyone anyone needs at a price that's hard to swallow

  • +4

Looks like something I made in year 10 woodworking out of ten bucks of scrap wood.

  • +8

Cheaper than Apple Mac Pro wheels…

  • +1

Bro, Just an advise, this is not the stuff OZ bargainers go for. Your brand value is greater than Apple 🍏

  • +3

I'm all for supporting local businesses (and you have some otherwise nice pieces in your gallery), but I'm not sure how you can justify such a huge high price for something like this, especially on OzBargain. We aren't the correct target market for you.

a customer request for a simple desktop stand to keep it off their carpet and away from dust

A few centimetres off the carpet isn't going to noticeably reduce dust accumulation.

    • +4

A few centimetres off the carpet isn't going to noticeably reduce dust accumulation.

I used to have a desktop that had air vents sucking in air right at the bottom of the case. If you put that on long pile carpeting, it would block airflow.

  • +3

Your decimal point must be in the wrong place

  • +1

    Nice try, but wrong place.

  • +1

"Away from dust"…except that the cooling fans tend to attract dust by slurping in huge quantities of air. It looks nice, it's locally made but yeah, seems like the wrong audience for a few tidied up offcuts.

  • +6

My sense is that you would do better making lengthy monitor risers (i.e. for 1-3 monitors).

  • +1

Avi Yemini would be keen on this

  • +6

Probably the nicest OzB.. giving genuinely advice, generating plenty of clicks, no down votes. Hope the business does well… and I might even buy one… knockoff from an ali deal posted by Clear

    • +1

I think because they are transparent, a local supplier & not some foreign carpetbagger trying to flog complete shit at a fake discount price. OzB wants local businesses to do well & in fact probably prefers to buy from them, if the quality/price ratio is right.

  • no thanks, but if you made desk shelf systems, like the ones you get from Grovemade, I might consider supporting your company , provided you dont charge Grovemade prices…

    • Thats what i thiught this was initially so i was interested. The grovemade is just robbery at their prices

  • +5

Using old uni textbooks since yellow/white pages are no longer in production, which costs about $500, this looks like bargain!

    • I recently got a yellow pages in the mail. significantly thinner than those of old, but I got one.

  • +3

Suggestion: what else are problems that desktop users have:
    - Messy cables (incorporate an attractive cable organiser into your stand design)
    - A place for controllers or headsets to hang (for the gamers)

  • +1

Can you do a custom one in gold? If so, how much?

  • +4

I got one of these ages back.. Solid, has wheels so can slightly turn desktop if needing to access rear ports or stare soullessly at RGB from different angle. Or unplug it and let it do doughnuts.
    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/uppspel-cpu-stand-with-castors-…

If you were a midget you could use it as ghetto skateboard.

Good luck on your device but that price seems crazy.

    • +3

      "CPU stand" lol

      • Well technicalllllllly πŸ˜‚

  • Looks nice but I still think a computer trolley is better.

  • Glad someone has identified the gap in the market for something like this that looks decent and doesn't cover up a glass side panel, unfortunate that it costs more than most cases though.

  • +2

Made in Australia! buy 10 of these!

    • Average local business supporter. πŸ˜‚

  • +1

I feel like sushi should go on there…. like really sexy sushi…

  • Too exxy for what it is.

  • +1

O, it is more expensive than my tower…. similar to the case that I order $10 chicken, but the dips sauce is $20.

  • +2

OP, just a suggestion to make a more affordable version and a product that will appeal to and match more customers black PC cases.

Buy some sheets of decent 8 x 4 plywood, cut it up to your design and spray the stands with 2-pack black and clear coat and sell them for $50……Β©

They do look gorgeous in wood but are just too expensive.

And good onya for having a go mate. πŸ”¨

    • +1

Hi Alidli, thanks for the feedback, we missed the mark here price wise and are a bit gutted about it! We've actually been thinking about making basic versions of some of our products out of plywood so might take on your suggestion with the tower stand.

      • Don’t be gutted. Looks like you make quality stuff. Leave the chipboard/ply stuff for Kmart and Nick Scali stores.

  • -2

Happy to do the same for half the price plus shipping πŸ˜ƒ

  • Great idea to get your pc off the floor. But i built something similar. Obviously with less finesse for like 10 bucks of materials. So the price is the killer here.

  • Not enough RGB for the unwashed PC masses.

beautiful product, if I had a PC i would put it on one of these.

  • +1

I'm using a Kmart chopping board rn

  • +1

would make a good monitor stand too

  • Nice looking desks you have. And that Cab is fantastic.

  • Having this appear in a list next to a $7.50 toilet brush. Vintage ozbargain.
