ASUS ROG Phone 6 Pro 5G 512GB (White) $1499 (Save $500) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

190

Was having a look through JB for some phones and saw most of the Asus ROG phones be it the 6 Pro, 6D, 5s and 6 non-pro variants are heavily discounted. Not sure if this is because the new series is coming out soon or if this is just a general discount.

The regular 6 doesn't seem as discounted as per previous deals but hopefully, this can help those wanting to flex the cool gamer vibes on the train home with the rear-facing screen.

These are the regular sale prices (black friday, before xmas, new year sales). I have the regular 6 and it has some pretty annoying issues.

    1. viewfinder for the camera is really laggy, shooting 60fps video drops frames for some reason… but shooting in super slow mo works fine
    2. sometimes when playing call of duty mobile, my aim will just spazz out and 180 or something. can't figure out how to reproduce it but it seems to happen once or twice in an hour.
    3. don't believe the 720hz touch sampling rate hype, setting it to the highest sensitivity, some games actually DROP inputs (I notice this most in pokemon duel) which is really annoying..
    4. not many cases for this phone
    5. the software experience is hit and miss, there are some unpolished things like when swiping away notifications, they bug out and stay on the screen for a little while.

some of the above could be just a bad unit.. if you are still interested in the phone, maybe consider the 6D ultimate edition which is $69 more and comes with the aeroactive cooler 6 which is really handy if you plan on playing games (Definitely do not recommend this phone if you don't game..)

Seems like steam deck or switch might be better value if the device is aimed at gamers

      • absolutely, really just depends on what games you enjoy the most.

Personally I play a lot of call of duty mobile so the inbuilt triggers are fantastic for it. I don't take a lot of photos so I can live with most of the issues to have the convenience of not having to carry around gaming triggers.

Totally agree with you. Basically only good for gaming, for everything else there's an better alternative.

    • Haven't had any of those issues other than phone case :( . Phone is extremely smooth, faster than my 16gb laptop. Playing Genshin is amazing, super high graphics, super fluid and controller support.

Obviously this phone isn't built for the camera. No lag only not as good as an iphone or Samsung camera (expected).

But if it's for gaming this is one of the best phones I've used.

      • Interesting, I might have to try and get my phone repaired or something. It's pretty widespread on zentalk forums that a lot of people have had issues with the camera on the phone (but a different issue with the viewfinder and colours inverting).

if you really need a high performance gaming phone, why not just buy a cheap iPad Mini?

      unfortunately, they're made by Apple

Since when is an ipad mini a phone? I get it that some apple lovers are a bit confused, but…?

Zenfone 9 also back on sale but the same discount as the previous months so not really a great deal

Still waiting for the price to drop more…

Fair warning, Asus are terrible at providing timely or long lasting software updates for these things. It's a lot to spend on something that will be forgotten by Asus in maybe 18-24 months.

  • Why is zenfone 6 pro costs more than 9?
