grabbed one of these at similar price last time - been absolutely impressed with it

    • The speakers aren't too soft? 1W

      • i use headphones 95% of the time

        • -1

Yeah, I don't even know why laptops come with speakers anymore. Or even tablets. They're bound to disappoint. People either connect them to external speakers or to head/earphones 99% of the time.

          • +2

@wisdomtooth: Tablets with Dolby Audio are actually pretty impressive, Samsung Galaxy Tabs, Xiaomi Pad 5, surely iPad pro, Lenovo XioXian, etc

            • @reactor-au: Having said that, kid uses the iPad mini (2!) with speakers on aaaall the time (to our desperation!). They are quite good, actually. OTOH, I rarely ever use my phone's speakers (Xiaomi POCO), but for taking the phone off silent, when having it in my pocket is either impossible or just not enough.

    • Does ui generally lag when using it like the older versions?

    • Note i got the 8gb version, noted this is the 4gb so YMMV

    • They had 8gb for similar price few month ago

The display is basically 1080p, 2k should be 1440p, but still sharp enough for 11"

    • +1

1080p is 2K. 2Ks standard is approx 2000 pixels in one axis. 1920 is that.

    • 1440P at 16:9 is 2560 horizontal pixels, so more often referred to as 2.5K.

    Note this is 4gb version.
8gb is also on sale $546 at Amazon currently

  • Any case recommendations?

    • It comes with a case. Its great as well. You can grab yourself a tablet sleeve if you really want.

  • 4GB of ram would do fine for a grandparent reading papers and playing slots surely?

    • +11

not for Windows, but perfectly fine on chromeOS

  • It looks and feels more premium than the price indicates

  • anyone been able get a usi 2.0 pen to use with this?

    • Mine has been on back order since November

  • +2

I am pretty sure the tablet has 2 USB-C ports.

    • Mine does. It is the 8GB version though.

  • I need something just for Microsoft teams, would this be fine

    • You have two choices for Teams on Chromebook: browser or android app. If you've not tried either, suggest you try in browser to see if you'd happy with it.

  • Can you download android apps to a chromebook or is everything limited to chrome browser?

    • +1

      Android app works fine

      • +1

Most Android apps work fine. If something is important, check.

      • I returned mine because so many apps didn't work on this. ABC news and Apple Music were fully broken.

    • Lot of google apps went to browser on Chrome, which is meh

  • 8 gig version performance that flies out the windows is not flying out the shelves at $554

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lenovo-ideapad-duet-3-11-…

ASUS has a version with performance flies out the windows with SSD and 8 gigs but $884 even that is a low special price - not flying off the shelves

    • That Asus one is also 15", and not a convertible tablet.

These ones are much smaller and have a removable keyboard and back cover which makes them very light and much more comfortable to use for reading books and the like.

I bought the 8GB version of this from a previous deal. Very happy with it. Only thing I am missing is the Signal app. This device is not compatible with Signal Linux. Other than that, I have no complaints. Simple and effective.

    • yeah I was thinking about buying this because I missed out last time but I can't accept the 4gb for the same price.

  • I had the previous model for about a week and returned it. Hardware is excellent but ChromeOS simply did not work for the fairly simple things I wanted. ABC news app did not work. Apple music would crash if you changed to another window (for background music). The keyboard had a bizzare behaviour where hitting backspace would inset autocorrect text.

Maybe these issues could be overcome, but they're all really stupid problems to have on a fresh fully updated install. I bought a surface instead, worth the extra money for a proper OS.

  • I was also excited to see this until I saw it was the 4gb model. I have the Duet 4gb model and it works well however it can be horribly slow when waking up which requires a forced reboot. Im not sure if the Duet 3 would have the same issue with 4gb but dont want to risk it.

  • I wonder if this is the cheapest way to get a replacement screen? I broke my screen about a month after I got the Duet 3.

Can't find a replacement anywhere that's in stock or willing to ship it here for a non exhorbitant price.

On the plus side, it's really easy to replace.

  • Got rid of my laptop and old Samsung tablet because I only use this Chromebook. amazing.
