Spotify Premium: Individual TRY₺30 Per Month (~$2.40), Family TRY₺50 Per Month (~$4.00) (Android and VPN Required) @ Spotify

2781

I will start by apologising for the awful title and description - it's been a while hahah.

ANDROID WORKS - took me 1 to 2 minutes total to sign up.
Apple I don't know if there's a method - could android vm or use someone elses phone as a one off?

Roughly a year ago Spotify and Google play store made a press release stating that they were going to be trialing Google Pay and Merchant Pay. I checked it regularly and within the last week or two it has finally been added!

METHOD:

Pre-existing spotify account:
I Smell Pennies @OB

New/ Free Accounts

Blue Stacks (PC) - IOS alternative/ android back up method:
Iangh @OB
Android:

  1. Set up a Google Play account with a Turkish payment profile - after looking to save myself some effort this deal by alcheron's comment explains it pretty well - thanks SuBw00FeR for helping me find the correct one
  2. Download and/or open Spotify
  3. Go to the get premium tab on the bottom right of the home screen
  4. Select any plan
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the payment where it says your country
  6. Change country to Türkiye
  7. Click the change plan key (had one account have issues signing up which this solved)
  8. Select the plan you want
  9. Click Google Pay
  10. Select your Turkish payment profile
  11. Select/ enter the card you want to use

To add family members:

  1. On the head account go to: https://www.spotify.com/tr-tr/account/family/ and get the link
  2. Follow that link on the child account, enter in the same address as is on the head account (I used an NZ one and it worked, just make sure they are the same)
  3. I experienced issues adding one account, it was saying it was from a different account to the head - if you get this issue on their account go to: https://www.spotify.com/tr-tr/account/profile/ and check what country is listed. If it is New Zealand/Aus/anywhere other than turkey get them to connect via turkish VPN (I used PIA) and it'll give them the option to change it to Turkey
  4. They can then follow the same family link and use the same address as the head account and it should work now

And you're now sorted with what I believe is the cheapest Spotify Premium price currently available.

This method is imo less effort, cheaper, and doesn't need to be renewed, like the previously available cheap Spotify option posted on OzBargain

Any issues feel free to comment and hopefully we can troubleshoot it.

Thanks to Wakrak for formating help

This is great for us but are there any impacts to the pricing going up for these countries?

    • +2

I mean looking at Netflix - they seem to keep it consistent with turkish inflation which is what I would assume spotify would do
No different to using any other country to pay such as brazil imo
But every business will be different so unfortunately I can't really give you an answer

    • +1

Price goes up as currency goes down so its the same.

    • -3

Of course. More people sign up and they will increase the price. We are basically screwing the locals there. If it's any consolation you will also pay Turkish equivalent of GST which means helping turkey rebuild.

  • I think I'm blind where does I Smell Pennies say how to make a turkish payment profile?

  • im wondering if you can set it up in google play then use the credentials in ios spotify since its just a username and pass

    • +2

Which is what I was suggesting with the: use someone elses phone as a one off - I feel it would definitely work, but still a pain for IOS users
Gosh you OZBargain guys are fast with the viewing and comments hahahahahah

      • nah i dont think you need to use a phone at all. sign up to google one via desktop browser then go to spotify on the browser web app and sign up using google i think.

        • :o that would actually be amazing

        • done that but all Aus cards decline

          • +1

@I Smell Pennies: revolut works - just tried it on google one sub

            • @zanzir: I have revolut but entered it in and it defaults to not this country/ ie knows it Australian

          • @I Smell Pennies: Comm bank cards work, signed up to google one last week

            • +2

              @easternculture: @zanzir
Yeah I know I’m literally the one who posted all those VPN hacks but I meant all Aus cards decline when signing up with Spotify Turkey via web (not with Google Pay). On web you don’t get Google Pay options

BUT I just realised I read the original comment wrong and that’s why you’re giving me these replies lol. my bad

        • It doesn’t give you the option to pay by Google Pay on browser web

  • +1

going to set this up at work next week

    • get xmanager fort android

  • Thanks OP. Wonder if family will be easy to set up

  • +1

I remember setting up one of these google accounts for disney+ Turkey. Whilst it worked to get DIsney+ the gmail account was closed by google shortly thereafter for breaching T&Cs. Not sure If I could be bothered going through that agin

    • Mine got closed as well! I’ve sent a question to them asking what did I do for the closure then they just reopened the account for me.

    • Click google pay
    • Select your turkish payment profile

I'm at this part, when I click on Google Play it doesn't come up to select my payment profile, if I click continue with google play it says "isn't available in your country" do I click on "update your country" in google play settings?

    • Under google play store - settings - account and device preferences - country and profile
Double check it is showing your Türkiye profile
and way back when I first set it up I had so many issues - restart your phone once youve done this then try spotify

      • +1

Hmm yeah it's not showing my Turkiye profile there. Why would that be?

I think you may need to use a VPN once off to set the google play country from memory but don't need to use a VPN anytime after that
Makes it easier if all other payment profiles are deleted also
Other option others found - sometimes it is just easier to make a whole new google account to create a turkish payment profile from

          • @Rowjo: Yeah was gonna say might be easier to have a separate account since this is my main google account, don't really wanna be deleting stuff from it.

      • Hi, I did all that. Playstore showing a Turkey profile with a CC attached. Spotify app location was changed to Turkey using VPN in the settings but I still keep getting “ isn't available in your country”. Restarted my phone to no avail. Could it be that I need a new Spotify account I wonder?

        • I tried with a new Spotify account. No joy

          • @jamba: Likewise. I can't work out why. In my case, Google Pay doesn't even show up as an Option.
            - Spare Android Phone used.
            - New Google Account setup with Country (Turkyie) showing & even a address in Turkey (checked).
            - Payment methods: Visa card Added.
            - New Spotify Account Setup (with Turkey VPN On) and does show as Turkey (TRY shows as Payment).
            - Tested logging in with both email address & then using Google as login method (which is the Turkey account).
…………….just no Google Pay as payment option. Am I missing something obvious?

Further Info: Spotify is in Turkish as also have Turkey recommendations so confirms that it is Turkey. I also uninstalled Spotify and reinstalled. Still no Google Pay

        • Were you able to solve this specific issue? looks like this is where im stuck also

I copied the formatting from CC and it removed my comment linking back to CC - looks like Im actually 8 months older than you ;)
But thanks for the concern? :)

      • I was wondering about the same thing ngl. For a second I thought you were trying to escape penalty box by making a new account 😂

14.99 if you can get it to work with student discount too

I don't see a Google Play payment option

  • +1

Does it work with any Australian bank card?

    • I have used NZ asb card and wise card works perfectly fine - prefer wise as my credit card charges 2% foreign currency fee or something (it will be charged as TRY)
Also can't believe I linked your deal and you're here :O

Question - why Spotify over YT Premium?

    • Yeah, I was gonna asked what advantage does it have over YouTube music

    • +1

I have both - using this method from memory YT premium is 2.3AUD(2.5NZD)/month for family plan of 6
Spotify has better playlists and more music it feels like (YRMV), and Ive used it for about 4 years so feels more natural to me

      • For YT prem, how much is that in try?

I'm paying 59.99TRY for family plan and my bank converts it to 4.75aud with 0.13 overseas fee

        • I just checked it is 59.99 TRY - I was going off the price I subscribed at about 1year ago (rough estimate)
I couldn't check easily as I am just a 'member' of the family
          Thanks for the correction :)

    • +4

I have both. It's mostly a personal choice. But reason I prefer Spotify are for the following reasons

      • Wrapped (I have the generated list since the very first year they released this feature, and I now don't want to miss a Wrapped year - genius from their part for introducing this feature
      • Spotify has slightly higher audio quality
      • Easier to control Spotify on my existing devices
      • I prefer the UI of Spotify
      • Spotify Garmin smartwatch integration
      • +1

        Thanks
So for Android/Samsung users - mostly no benefits besides wrapped?
YT Music for me then - I like the baked in ad free youtube

        • It can also be hard to find original/explicit version of songs because YouTube defaults to censored/Vimeo versions much of the time

    • +1

Turkish Tidal is still the best option for me.

    • As someone who begrudgingly uses TYP, it sucks so bad. Doesn't have all the music, the interface sucks, and it's policy of starting Radio after listening to an album is beyond infuriating.

    • Spotify kids, yt premium isnt anywhere close and has (or used to be) 13+

  • +6

    Xmanager.

    • Second this. Xmanager on Android solves all your Spotify problems.

      • but how do i use xmanager on pc and does it have smartwatch integration, highest audio quality and kareoke, song search algorithms, control playback on pc with my phone and bluetooth connnectivity?

  • How about the annual subscription? Does Turkey allow that? How much is it at this stage? Cheers 👍

    • Does Spotify have an annual plan? I thought it was only monthly, unless you buy a 12 month Spotify gift card

  • +3

Can you do this with your current Spotify account after letting the current subscription lapse? Or do you need to make a new account?

  • +1

I think this only works with Android phones? Tried using android tablet and Spotify app redirected me to the Spotify on web browser for any account changes which doesn’t have a Google Pay option

    • +2

I'm on android phone, same as you. no Google pay option, only credit card or Carrier billing

      • Try log off Spotify and log back in. If that doesn’t work you may need to create a new Spotify account. I had to create a new account for the google pay option to show up

  • +3

When I follow the steps and get to the payment screen I don't get any option for google pay, online credit/debit card. Any tips on how to resolve?

    Using a Samsung s21

    • Make sure your spotify is up to date, the country at the bottom of the payment screen is showing turkey, and currency is showing TRY
If you are using a current account check https://www.spotify.com/tr-tr/account/profile/ make sure this has turkey - if not use a vpn and it will let you change it - I had to do this to add an account to the family plan

  • +1

I tried this on my android, followed all instructions and when I clicked on google pay it said it was not set up in the country when it is set as my primary. I have not tried it with a VPN though

I didn’t know that you could pay for Spotify subscription using Google pay, time to take out my old android phone that I keep for this sole purpose.

    • I kid you not I checked every week since march last year, that was just an announcement, its only just been added in this past week or two ;)

Anyone still on the Philippines subscription? Which is cheaper?

    • NZ$6.30 for a family account
      https://www.cheapies.nz/comment/169211/redir

    • my last bill on the 16th Feb was $5.41

    • Had some issues with my Phillipines about 6 months ago but setup new account and works fine still paying $4.72 but for duo on 27/2 so probably cheaper for Turkey.

      • +1

Duo through turkey is $3.15AUD I would say not worth the hassle of changing though

  • I know this is a bit unrelated but i am traveling to south east asia and will be for 2 months for some work.

Is there a way i can pay for spotify premium, youtube premium and netflix for a year to make use of the discounted rates?

I mean with my current account or would i need to create a new account?

Anyone tried anything similar and can help?

    • I have this and does it link up Alexa? I am afraid of linking Alexa just in case I loose playing for free.

  • Unable to create a payment profile as I've got it linked to the YouTube music hack.. any workarounds?

    • Honestly just create a new google account for turkey subscriptions is my honest recommendation - or change the youtube subscription to turkey also? Id go for new tho. changing to turkish youtube music/ premium is easy as once you have a payment profile, same with and google service (Drive etc)

  • few questions
1)does this work for existing spotify premium user?
2)does google pay only accept VISA/master cards?

    • No to question 1. Yes to question 2

      • I think the answer to 1 is not a flat no. But presumably you'd have to let your existing subscription expire first before trying to re-subscribe.

        • Yes correct. Which means you are not a premium plan member at the time you are doing this hack

          • @illusion99: Thanks so much for the answer. I feel skeptical adding cards to websites, even tho it is google in this case.

  • +1

I never thought that one comment would be so useful. If only I could get that Google One sub working myself…

    • @alcheron no way! what’s the issue?

  • If someone does family, I'll sign up? It seems I need for podcasts.

    I mainly just use YouTube!

  • I had a Spotify Premium account registered in Singapore (thanks to Crypto.com) but recently when I tried to login it asked me to verify my location in Australia. Did it happen to anyone else and will it happen again to the ones registered in Turkey?

  • I'm not getting the option to selection "Google Play" as a payment option can someone help?

    • You may need to create a new account. Google Play didn't appear as an option for my old account. I had to create a new Spotify account and then it appeared. Or you could try log off and log back in to Spotify

      • Could it possibly be a problem with me already having Spotify premium? Since I already have a family plan under a credit/debit card which is still active

        • Yes I had premium already and it doesn't offer google pay option for existing premium members I don't think

          • +2

@illusion99: Alright i made a new account it gives me the option of google play, Its not giving me the error of "Google Play purchases are not supported in your country". Despite the fact that my google play account is set in turkey and the currency's within google play store is in "TRY".

        • Did you check: https://www.spotify.com/tr-tr/account/profile/ on your old account? It may have been set to aus (VPN needed to change to turkey)
As google play payment isnt supported in NZ/AUS yet as far as Im aware

          • @Rowjo: You can’t change the country if you are already on a premium subscription (even with vpn). You can only change it if you are on the free plan

            • @illusion99: I would assume to do this deal regardless you would either have to use a new account or let the old one lapse so that's a bit of a moot point?
plus you might as well use the remaining of your current subscription?

              • @Rowjo: Yes that’s right. But judging from a lot of comments here people are trying to change or use an existing premium account. Maybe add that to the original post that you need a new account or a on premium account

                • @illusion99: Fair point - I was just about to update the post with some other stuff anyways :)

  • I am able to create additional Turkish profile on my Google account.

Able to change Spotify to Turkey plan pricing.

However at the payment page, no Google pay option.

Only credit card and courier invoice options.

    Can anyone help?
