Spotify Premium: Individual TRY₺30 Per Month (~$2.40), Family TRY₺50 Per Month (~$4.00) (Android and VPN Required) @ Spotify

2781

I will start by apologising for the awful title and description - it's been a while hahah.

ANDROID WORKS - took me 1 to 2 minutes total to sign up.
Apple I don't know if there's a method - could android vm or use someone elses phone as a one off?

Roughly a year ago Spotify and Google play store made a press release stating that they were going to be trialing Google Pay and Merchant Pay. I checked it regularly and within the last week or two it has finally been added!

METHOD:

Pre-existing spotify account:
I Smell Pennies @OB

New/ Free Accounts

Blue Stacks (PC) - IOS alternative/ android back up method:
Iangh @OB
Android:

  1. Set up a Google Play account with a Turkish payment profile - after looking to save myself some effort this deal by alcheron's comment explains it pretty well - thanks SuBw00FeR for helping me find the correct one
  2. Download and/or open Spotify
  3. Go to the get premium tab on the bottom right of the home screen
  4. Select any plan
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the payment where it says your country
  6. Change country to Türkiye
  7. Click the change plan key (had one account have issues signing up which this solved)
  8. Select the plan you want
  9. Click Google Pay
  10. Select your Turkish payment profile
  11. Select/ enter the card you want to use

To add family members:

  1. On the head account go to: https://www.spotify.com/tr-tr/account/family/ and get the link
  2. Follow that link on the child account, enter in the same address as is on the head account (I used an NZ one and it worked, just make sure they are the same)
  3. I experienced issues adding one account, it was saying it was from a different account to the head - if you get this issue on their account go to: https://www.spotify.com/tr-tr/account/profile/ and check what country is listed. If it is New Zealand/Aus/anywhere other than turkey get them to connect via turkish VPN (I used PIA) and it'll give them the option to change it to Turkey
  4. They can then follow the same family link and use the same address as the head account and it should work now

And you're now sorted with what I believe is the cheapest Spotify Premium price currently available.

This method is imo less effort, cheaper, and doesn't need to be renewed, like the previously available cheap Spotify option posted on OzBargain

Any issues feel free to comment and hopefully we can troubleshoot it.

Thanks to Wakrak for formating help

    • Your Spotify account also needs to be in Turkey not just the plan currency. If you have a premium plan already you can’t change country and you need to create a new Spotify account with VPN. If you are on free plan then connect to VPN and change Spotify country to Turkey for your profile account

      • If you have a premium plan already you can’t change country and you need to create a new Spotify account with VPN

It's possible to change the country of an existing account, so I don't think this is correct

        • For a premium account? I don’t get that option. When I try it says to change country by changing the country on your payment method (which doesn’t help as you are trying to change your country BEFORE changing the payment method country)

      • Ok so need to be a brand new account and using VPN when sign up?

        • Doesn’t have to be a brand new account. Just an account that is on a free plan

I successfully have the Google Pay option in TRY and my google play account's location and payment method is in Turkey, and Spotify is in TRY. But when I press "Continue with Google Play" it gives me the error that "Google Play purchases are not supported in your country".

Can anyone help? what did i do wrong?

    • I'm having the same issue

      • Exactly the same and I have disney, netflix already running on same turk account.

      • +1

I ended up fixing it. For me my problem was that my Spotify account location was set to Australia and not Turkey (you need a VPN to change it to turkey, as if you try to change it the only option it gives you is 'Australia'. Keep in mind when you press "Continue with Google" ensure that a VPN connected to turkey is enabled on your phone. Following these steps troubleshooted these problems for me, hope it does for you too.

        • What VPN did you use?

          • @SkyFinance: I just signed up for NordVPN and then cancelled it under the '30 day moneyback guarantee' that they have

  • No luck for me, have used a turkish account for Disney+ with no issues, but not being given the option to use google pay, only debit card?

  • Thanks OP, worked a treat for me. Used Wise digital card and Turkey payment profile used for Google One.

Worth it for me just to use for Garmin.

  • +1

Do you get Turkish music recommendations? I remember trying this with Vietnam and it was so bloody annoying I’d rather just by a 12 month sun from Costco

    • regular recommendations - recommendations are based off your IP address and listening hx

  • After I click google pay, it says subscription not available- anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

    • Same issue for me, I have country set to turkey in both spotify and google play store.

      • I have the same. I think I'm my case it's because the default google account on my phone is an Australian linked on, not the turkey one.

    • so way back when I was originally setting up my payment profile for the first time I had issues with it not working - i\t was one of three things that fixed it off the top of my head
Changing payment profile address (I dont think it was this that fixed it if Im honest, as I did it many times)
Time - giving it a day or two once the payment profile is set up (I think this is what it was)
Restarting phone - from memory I restarted a few times and nothing

      • No worries, I'll give it a bit more time before trying again. Out of interest, after a while, the google play button also disappears on my new accounts, and I've got to make a new account to see it again.
My payment profile is pretty new, as I just changed it yesterday for youtube plus

    • Same here, I'm using account I already have set up for Disney+
Uninstalling Spotify and installing from the Turkish account didn't help. Not sure what to try next?

    • Same here as well. Have set up Google One before with no issues using the same Google Play payment account.

Looks too complicated for my brain, im not sure i like listening to music enough to attempt lol

any issue with the T&C of "You can use Spotify in a different country or region for up to 14 days"?

    • Dang did not realize this, where does it say that?

I feel this definitely going to be an issue.

    • +1

pretty sure that’s only for free accounts, not premium

  • So few people actually confirming this deal has worked for them. Would have expected more people saying it works compared to how many upvotes.

    • Buying an android phone and paying for spotify is like buying a car and never driving it

    • Worked for me. Some things I noticed:
      - Spotify profile must be set to Turkey. Use a VPN to do it so it shows in the country list.
      - Android must have only your turkish profile account enabled. I didn't want to delete my main account so I used an old phone I had laying around to do it.
      - I had VPN enabled while logging into spotify and it still wasn't showing the Google Play payment option. Turns out it's to do with the version of spotify downloaded via play store. I had to update play store, webview etc on my old phone and the correct version downloaded so I could use the payment option.

      • Thank you for the tip. Once you signed up, do you change the location on the Spotify back to Australia?

  • Did they remove google pay as an option now?

    • Yep I no longer see the option for paying with Google pay

  • what is the price difference per person compared for both family in australia and turkey?

  • I'm on Student Philippines plan for ₱65, that's probably the cheapest?

  • Anyone with that has done the Brazil prepaid card Spotify hack and is in credit tried switching? I'm paid up to Jan next year with Brazil Spotify. Wondering if that credit would transfer over?

  • +1

Signed up using the same account I used for Disney. Couldn't use a Turkey address for family accounts. Finally worked with an Australian address.

  • +3

Finally managed to get it to work. Steps I had to take/how to troubleshoot this:
    - I personally could only get it to work when I had my VPN on and set to Turkey
    - create a new Google account and setup Turkish payment profile as per instructions
    - remove all other Google Accounts from the play store except for the new one you've setup in Google Play Store - check account settings (settings -> general -> account and device preferences) and make sure the Turkish country profile is the only option availabe/selected.
    - some Spotify accounts might not work with this, so either make a new account or try another login
    - open Spotify, get premium, choose plan, change language to turkish (english), change country to Turkey, pay with Google Pay, select your Turkish payment profile and pick the card you want to use.

  • Once I got the set up working, can I login to Spotify using username/password? I don't want to have to setup my Turkey Google account on the device I use. Thanks.

    • +1

You will be able to login and use it like normal.

      • Awesome … thanks.

  • My gut feeling is that Spotify will take action like Netflix.

    • What action has netflix taken? I've been happily sitting on my turkish netflix for a year now.

      • Hmm I was being taken back to AU payment method. Maybe I did sth wrong and I should make a new account.

    • I am using Netflix India still

  • I just signed up with a family plan here and only paid $3.2 per month. Saves the trouble.

    • How? Is this ongoing?

      • Yes I have been doing this for a few months now. Just normal AU family plan - https://www.spotify.com/au/family/
So far no issue at all!

        • It’s $19/month. Are you sharing your subscription with “family” to get the $3.20/month?

          • -2

@Heybargain: If you split between 6 family members then the cost is approx $3.2/month. I personally just can’t be bothered to go through the steps for a Turkish plan. Also I don’t own an Android device.

            • @GEE-SHOCK: lol you realise based on your calc. if you split between 6 for a Family account via Turkey its $0.67 each vs your $3.20 yeh?

              • -2

@Maestrok: Thanks but I already stated my reason.

I personally just can’t be bothered to go through the steps for a Turkish plan. Also I don’t own an Android device.

  • I don't see the option to pay via Google Pay? I can only enter a credit card.

  • I don't see the Google pay option. It just defaults to a credit card. Can anyone please help? Thanks

  • Thanks op, manage to get family plan, i need to make new Spotify account but, the old ones didn't work

  • +1

After some 4 hours I finally did it, here are some tips:

    • Yes I think you do need a VPN and a new Spotify account, since the Google Play payment option only works there. Wireguard somehow worked for me after PureVPN failed (I bought a 2 year plan so I'm praying that the 100% cashback tracks)

    • I have a Turkish profile on my main Google account, however I had to create a new Google account and repeated the steps since I couldn't change the Play Store from Australia to Turkey on my current account, maybe due to me being a Google Family planner.

    • I had success with the Up Virtual card, after changing the address on the card to my actual card address. I wanted to use a Turkish address since it somehow worked for the YT Premium deal but it didn't work in this case since it kept declining my card.

    • How do you verify your phone number when creating a new google account?

      • Just use your normal number. You can associate the same number with many accounts.

  • +1

Took a bloody while to set up, kept getting some weird "Your transaction can't be completed. To continue this transaction, secure your account.". Ended up turning my vpn off just before I clicked buy and it worked. Now time to ask spotify to transfer all my playlists over to this new turkey account. Thank you for bestowing upon me this knowledge @Rowjo

    • You can transfer playlist yourself without having to ask Spotify. Just google transfer playlist from one Spotify to another account. It’s pretty easy

    • Now time to ask spotify to transfer all my playlists over to this new turkey account.

Why risk having your account(s) banned, however minute the risk?

    • +1

There is a program to duplicate playlists from one account to another, it's name I can not recall though - or on computer spotify I believe there's a check box to tick check all then you can copy paste them all over :-)

  • Will I lose my existing playlists? Do I need to create a new Spotify account or can I use my existing Oz Spotify account ?

    • Google transfer playlist from one Spotify to another account

    • You can copy over your playlist from one account to another

  • I've successfully followed up the steps but keep getting the 'Your transaction can't be completed. To continue this transaction, use a different payment instrument or contact us.' I have tried using my UP Virtual Card as well as Latitude Global CC without any luck. Has anyone had this error and been able to find a solution?

    • +1

I always use wise visa debit card….and you need to have some $ on the card for spotify to verify your CC.

      • I'm using the wise debit card with some $AUD on it but I still get 'Your transaction can't be completed. To continue this transaction, use a different payment instrument or contact us.' or "Your transaction can't be completed. To continue this transaction, secure your account." instead.

Do I need to convert some $AUD to LIRA so the LIRA account shows a balance?

@Rowjo worked a charm legend! Thanks for notifying us of this Google/Spotify partnership

Since I already had a Turkey payment profile for Youtube, Google One etcccc, my steps were much easier and it only took a minute:

    1. Opened Spotify app
    2. Clicked on the premium tab on the bottom right of the home screen
    3. Showed “renew subscription” with Australian prices so turned on VPN, went to account profile and changed country to from Australia to Turkey (must use VPN to do this or it will grey out the option)
    4. Killed the app to refresh then back to Steps 1 and 2, then step 5
    5. Selected my family plan, scrolled down and clicked on Google Pay
    6. Already had my Australian card preloaded and just clicked pay

I do note that starting from step 3 literally everything was in Turkish so I kinda had to guess my way around but as long as I saw TL49.99 and the Google Pay icon I know how to navigate 😎

    • used my old Google account (same one for Youtube/Google One)
    • used old Spotify account

Will link this comment in the post for others using an already set spotify account!
Many thanks for the update and always such detailed and great explanations!

    • +1

assuming you can't be a current premium member yeh?

      • yeah there's no premium tab down the bottom for me

      • correct

        • +2

anyone got success with an existing premium account?

gotta wait till subscription expires to try but if it's not gonna work anyways then will focus on using a fresh account.

    • So can you change either settings/country back so it's in English after?

Is it fine to then drop the VPN after or do you need to keep using it to login? I assume that won't be an issue to login, but I mean more along the lines of potentially running into issues further on like getting plan cancelled or getting banned?

      • No you cannot change the country once you’re in a family plan.

But everything is in English now anyway, it’s only the signup page and emails that are Turkish

        • @illumination says that he/she can change countries. I’m not sure how they do it so hopefully they can comment on the steps to do so

          • @illusion99: I would like to be proven wrong but I’m gonna say he/she is wrong

            According to Spotify:

The country or region of your Spotify account is based on where you were when you signed up.

            Got Premium?

You can travel anywhere without having to change your account settings.

If you still want to change your country or region, you need to update your payment method to one that's issued there:

Log in to your account page.
Under Your plan, click UPDATE next to your payment method.
Enter a new payment method that was issued in your new country or region.
The changes will take effect from your next billing date.

Doing this would probably change the billing and subscription details - BUT I’ll test this tonight and report back. Willing to spend a few more bucks on another account to test for y’all

Also, I don’t see a need to change countries tbh, doesn’t affect anything AFAIK

            • @I Smell Pennies: Yes I agree with you and I did post a comment saying the same thing but @illumination told me I was wrong but did not elaborate.

              • @illusion99: Sorry guys only just saw these comments.

So based on what you guys are saying, I don't know if we're talking about the same thing. But see in I Smell Pennies comment this part?

went to account profile and changed country to from Australia to Turkey (must use VPN to do this or it will grey out the option)

This is what I'm referring to. You're changing the country of your account by doing this, are you not? And I have the exact same experience. By default, it'll always be set to a particular country (Australia for Ozbargainers). If you are either:

                • in a different country (e.g. New Zealand); or
                • have a VPN on with an IP address for a different country

then the "Country" dropdown menu will have the following options:

                1. Australia (pre-selected)
                2. The country where Spotify thinks you are in

This is what I meant by being able to change country, so I'm a bit confused by the comment here that it is possible to change country, but both you and I Smell Pennies also subsequently seeming to agree that the country can't be changed?

Also to be clear - I'm not saying you can change country WHILE you are in a family plan (I would presume you can't?). I am saying you can change the country of your account - that is all.

                • @illumination: We are all saying the same thing. Let’s be clear. If you are on a FREE plan you can change your country in your account. If you are on anything other than the free plan (ie premium family, premium individual, premium duo) you cannot change countries

                  • @illusion99:

We are all saying the same thing.

Yeah we pretty much are to some extent 😂😂😂

                    @illumination

I am saying you can change the country of your account - that is all.

This is way too broad to be correct and in fact your previous sentence invalidates it lol

                    • @I Smell Pennies: @illumination likes to make broad brush comments. He said previously “this will work if you’re on a premium plan….(but you have to let it expire first)” and now this “You can change country…(but not if you’re in a family plan)”

Next he will say “You don’t need to use VPN to sign up for Spotify premium plan”….(unless you want to get cheap Spotify)

                      • @illusion99:

Next he will say “You don’t need to use VPN to sign up for Spotify premium plan”….(unless you want to get cheap Spotify)

                        Lol stop it 😂😂😂

                  • @illusion99: Ok I've caught up with the comments and yes I can see we're actually all on the same page.

Btw the comment of yours I contradicted was this:

If you have a premium plan already you can’t change country and you need to create a new Spotify account with VPN

I think you can now understand why I said this is not correct because you seemed to realise too here

This is way too broad to be correct and in fact your previous sentence invalidates it lol

It was my bad initially because I didn't realise the additional context of the conversation being that you guys were always referring to changing country whilst in a family plan - which I've never tried. I just knew that I have previously changed countries before. My previous comment reflects this - I said "I presume you can't" because of what you guys said.

                    • @illumination: Yeah - no worries at all mate. Just a little misunderstanding and we all make mistakes so no stress yeah

        • Ah ok. Do you still VPN to login or just for the country change?

          • @madgasser: The VPN is simply to change the location of the account signing up and to change tbe locatio. of all family members who will be joining (or you get the error saying different countries etc)

    • +1

Hrmm doing this on PC (noting I am an iOS user), I can go to update my plan, change country to Turkey and the price changes to TL49.99 but only has card option, sadly no Google Pay (Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover Network).

E: Nevermind, blindly missed the Android only (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

      • likely still need android device for google pay to show up probably…. but if you were able to do everything else inc. add payment option etc. then all you'd need to do is log into Spotify on an android device and sign up to premium?

could use something like bluestacks on PC maybe?

        • Ah that's a good shout, will give that a crack, thanks mate!

E: Sadly I had the same experience - got to the same spot but no Google Pay offered

    • which vpn do you use?

  • +3

My Google Play profile country is showing as Turkey but I am still getting error the subscription isnt available in your Google Play country for Spotify

  • Do I need to maintain a vpn to keep my play store in turkey? Or is it just for the first payment?

  • Struggling with Google Play vs Pay ugh. Can set up the Pay profile etc. all well but having difficulty with the Play profile.

  • do other family members also need to have a vpn on to join the family?

    • yes

      • really? ah that complicates things a bit.
