  • Pretty meh price for the configuration and age of the model.

    • +7

Business grade laptop unless I'm mistaken?

Current model with i5-1235U, is $2780 from HP!
So ~$1000/year depreciation seems pretty decent to me.

      • -1

Yes, bit the cpu is slower than even an i5-2500

        • +3

And Apples are better than Oranges, but I'm not sure how they relate to Laptops either.

        • cpu is slower than even an i5-2500

Yeah that's just the difference between laptop CPUs and desktop ones. For a laptop CPU this is still relatively good.

        • +1

no. no it is not. the i5 10310u is 40% faster than a i5 2500 and uses 1/6 the power.

          https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/3698vs803/Intel-i5-1031…

        • This is bullshit lol. I5-2500 is 32nm process node from 2011 or something. Ipc gains would be far beyond that very old cpu and it has no multithreading.

      • +2

What is meaning of business grade laptop? Is it the support, cause spec and build wise they look the same to me.

        • +4

Build quality is vastly superior versus consumer grade gear.
          You can feel the difference.

          • +1

@ESEMCE: Yes, the case is superior to other laptop PCs but having Intel CPUs…. I've seen some Elitebooks with 8th gen Intels very noisy, with fans blowing even when unsed for hours and with lid closed.

            • +1

@ALBastru: And as I type on a Gen 8 version that I dropped recently, the case is hopeless - rubbish plastic that has bent and broken in ways my previous grade laptops would never have done.
Back to Lenovo X1 carbon for me - very disappointed with the HP given the large dollars this cost

              • +2

@rwps: The Elitebook G8 was Aluminium just like this is, as was the Elitebook G6 (which includes the 8th Gen Intel CPU if that's what you meant by Gen 8).
                What plastic?

                • @ESEMCE: I'm using an Elitebook x360 1030 G8 - so the G8 i took to be Gen8, bought in August last year.
Only metal on the case is behind the screen . The top and bottom panel with the keyboard and hardware in it are both plastic
That plastic has broken away from one of the screws and has bent/cracked warped so the base is open.
Plastic that is the same matt and colour as the metal, but scratch it and plastic it is.
I shouldn't drop a laptop, but not the first time I have. Though the first time I had it damage so severely - I've done a lot worse (flying in the air out of briefcase and landing on a corner on concrete) to a previous lenovo - and just a scratch.
My daughters older version is all metal.

          • @ESEMCE: I owned an X1 Carbon for 3.5 years and I second this. I currently have a Zephyrus G14 as I needed the extra power, but the difference between a business grade laptop and a purpose built performance laptop is clear.

The X1 felt solid in hand, yet weighed only 1.1kg. the battery life was excellent too.

"Feedthetroll" on the other hand seems like on paper specs and performance is all that matters to them. In that case, what I currently have (G14) is a much better choice for them.

Everyone has different needs. Some people just don't realize that everyone isn't consistently searching for more performance.

        • +1

Yeah I had one of these for about 7 years. No issues despite at least 40 hours a week use. Only upgraded as newer laptop CPUs were so much faster.

  • +1

big difference from this cpu to current gen, we're talking like 2 toks

    • +2

      Sure I get that.
But you're also paying a fraction of the price for pretty high end build quality.
Equivalent current models in the same price band would be all plastic.

    • +3

      Big benchmark difference:

      https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/4765vs3698/Intel-i5-123…

But real-life difference to response times? Barely noticeable I expect.
Still only 1080 lines, and no stylus.

      • +2

        Units have a stylus.

        • +2

Thats nice! You should add to the listing.

I was wrong about the other too. New models are 1200 line. But to save $2000, I could cope with 1080p :-)

    • +2

830 g9s were $1400 last time I checked. This model is half that price.

  • +1

$50 cheaper and I'll buy one right now

    • if you are travelling then you can get the gst back from original price $849

      • Not travelling till September

    • +2

      yes mate.

    • +7

      Hey it’s me your sister.

      • +1

        Bratsis :) Come grab it

  • Just wanted to check if it will come with documentation reflecting the warranty till 2025?? Cheers

    • +2

usually online checks on HP website

      • Coolios. Thanks

  • The chin size under the screen is drastically different on the two images, what's correct?

    • +1

      Uploaded some better pictures.

  • +1

Is the definitely 400 nit display? The spec sheet states "33.8 cm (13.3 in) diagonal FHD IPS eDP anti-glare WLED-backlit bent touch-on-panel screen for HD and IR camera and WWAN, 250 nits, 45% NTSC (1920 x 1080)" for the WWAN model.

    • Says 250 on their product description

      • +3

I'm sure I saw 400 somewhere. Anyway, proves I need at least 400, as I'm going blind;-)

    • That's definitely the biggest downside.

  • +6

I bought elitebook before and if it’s brand new? Email/chat with hp with the tax invoice and they can update the warranty start date to your invoice date

  • +3

ppl who buy these type of laptops are not there for CPU performance, etc, however the ebay M$ surface deals is probably better for most ppl IMO. LTE is a big plus for those who need it.

    • +2

      where?

  • How long would delivery be to Canberra? Need by the weekend 😬

    • If you check out with express post it will be sent tomorrow. Can't see a reason why it shouldn't make it in time.

  • No stacking of coupons for this one bummer

    • +2

Add a few more items and make it $1000 to get the $100 off.

  • Do these support Windows 11 ?

    • +3

      Yes

      • Are you sure about this?

I believe 2GHz CPU is a minimum requirement for Windows 11.

        • This CPU goes up to 4.4GHz

    • +1

waves hand You don't want Windows 11

  • +3

My gov department use these at work and I've only seen one faulty unit in my many years working there rock solid laptops !!

Only downside is the glossy screen I prefer the matte screens on the non foldable version

  • Brand new yet 3 generation behind?

    • +1

This is G7, current HP model is G9 and $3000. Unopened box, with >2yrs transferable warranty. I'd call that new enough.

Had a bad experience with this seller. I bought a refurbished laptop in December from them and they sent me a laptop in completely used dirty condition. It was full of stinky yellow marks and I'm talking Surface Laptop so the fabric was screwed. I made a mistake - I didnt take photos before cleaning it myself. Because after cleaning it the stains didnt fully go away. I tried to reach out to the seller on ebay and the response was someone will get back to me after the holidays. No one did. I messaged again 3 weeks later, seller agreed to refund for a return. I returned, it has been confirmed delivered 10 days ago, and I still dont have my refund. Tried opening a case with ebay and the website has glitched out where it cant see that my return was successfully delivered.

So yeah nah avoid this seller.

More than happy to look into this if you want me to PM your your details

Ebay customer service has promised refund will arrive by end of this week but I dont really trust that. They've said it will arrive in 48 hours 2-3 times before.

I should mention that when I contacted the seller after 3 weeks their initial response was "Someone did already get back to you". I had to push them further into accepting the return.

        Your previous message:
That response implies someone will get back to me. It's been 3 weeks and no one got back.

        Hi alikazi
Sorry to hear of the quality of the system you received. I have forwarded this info to the relevant department.
        Thank you

      • I've replied you 4 days ago and nothing has happened. No refund no contact.

    • +1

Have purchased from this seller around 5 times and been very happy each time.

Not saying your experience didn't happen. Just trying to balance with my positive experiences.

  • +2

We have hundreds of these at work, they are a large amount of them being reported with the battery not lasting as long as expected. There's no problem as long as you mainly intend to use in one place and just want it to be mobile for short periods. If you later find that you need more battery you can also get a USB-C laptop battery bank for $80-$150 and I'd expect you can use it into the future as well.

    • Using a work-provided G8 at the moment, and yeah, battery life is pretty bad. 2 hours max if I'm dialling into a Zoom/Teams call. I suspect it's due to all the corporate bloatware that's running on it rather than the laptop itself.

  • Can you charge via USB C?
Can you connect a hub to USB C to then connect 2x 1080p monitor?
    Is the keyboard backlit?
Is the camera IR for Windows Hello?

    Thanks!

    • Received mine couple days ago. It’s quite nice, minor downside for me is the screen is glossy, which they had it in the description as a matt display. Should be able to charge via usb c, not too sure with the hub, keyboard is backlit. Camera is not IR for windows Hello.

  • @Calmago what is the difference between this listing and this one https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HP-EliteBook-x360-830-G7-Intel-i… One is cheaper, is listed as refurbished, but then specified as new? The other is both specified and listed as new? How does the refurbished/new make sense?

    • +1

      Both units are brand new

      One is a sealed box
The other is an open box
