Happen to have anything for South Africa for a week?

    • +2

      Hey @JHoliday πŸ‘‹

Our Tourist SIM would be the only option for South Africa.

Let me know if you have any further questions πŸ‘

      -Aidan

      • No options for anything esim? Am leaving for overseas end of this week and don't want to be at the mercy of Aussie post

        • Hey @blighst

For South Africa we do not have anything, but we do have a list of eSIMs further down the post for other countries.

Let me know if you have any further questions! πŸ€™

  • Going on a 15 day cruise soonish through the Pacific….any sims that would be of benefit or just roam through Telstra? Actually, from what I've seen, it possibly isn't even worth roaming!

    • +2

      Hey @bundyoz!

Sounds fantastic! It depends on where you are going, what countries do you stop off at?

      -Aidan

      • Sydney, Lifou (New Caledonia), Vanuatu, Fiji, Samoa, American Samoa, French Polynesia……hopefuly, coz with all the cyclones and earthquakes……well…..! Maybe surfing will be the best choice.

        • +2

I can get you a SIM for Fiji; however, the rest we do not have anything, unfortunately.

Your best bet will be to either use Telstra $5 a day roaming (double check they cover those countries) and/or get a local SIM when you land.

Fingers crossed it all works out for you 🀞

Get out and shred some jelly πŸ„β€β™‚οΈπŸ€™

        • β€œEurope & UK Travel SIM Card | 45 Countries | 140GB | 28 Days Γ— 1”

I used this SIM in Italy and Greece (bought last year 7/9/2022) over the last 3 weeks. It had a Spanish phone number. It was supposed to have 140GB but stopped after 10GB.

          I think it used moviestar.

I suppose all of these travel sim companies are at the mercy of changing limits by their suppliers.

So, I guess, don’t buy them way ahead of time.

          • @Eeples: Hey @Eeples

I'm sorry to hear your experience wasn't very good.

We have discontinued those SIMs from our website as we are having issues with our supplier.

Please get in touch with the team by live chat on our site, give them your order number and we are happy to work something out with you.

    • +5

      Hey @Bargainable

We are temporarily out of China SIMs, unfortunately.

We are replacing our current stock with new SKUs soon (I can't give you an exact date).

I tried multiple SIM cards last month in China and Optus prepaid performed the best. Costed me $20 for 10GB within 14 days. As far as I know the data can be used in China ,Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, UK&USA.

      • Can you get prepaid card for free and only pay $20? otherwise, you have to buy a prepaid plan first.

        • Yes you can. That was what I did. I activated $2 day plan and immediately cancelled renewal.

          • @gstfree: What sort of Optus plan is this thats only $2 day plan overseas?

  • +3

Can’t recommend this business enough. A great service, and always quick to answer questions before you purchase (if it’s not in the faq)

Any chance you can source a SIM with an Indian number? Want to receive SMS from there. Thanks

    • +1

      Hey @Amaris

I can't get that for you unfortunately, the only way around it would be to get a local SIM when you land.

      Sorry I can't help further!

      -Aidan

  • Looking to get the South East Asia Travel eSim 30 days but have a couple questions:

    • how reliable is this in terms of speed and coverage as compared to say a local simcard
    • if I'm understanding this correctly, I will be able to purchase the eSim today but only activate it when i travel in a week's time?
    • +1

      Hey @ldcan

The speed and coverage will be the same as a local SIM as it uses the same networks as local SIMs.

Yes correct, purchase the eSIM and then activate it with the QR code when you land :)

Let me know if you have any further questions!

      -Aidan

Got anything that will work in the ports of an Eastern Caribbean cruise?

    • Hey @ozzieozzieozzie

Unfortunately not! That's a bit of a niche area to cover πŸ˜‚

The best thing to do would be grab something local.

      -Aidan

  • Hi OP,
I have a Europe trip planned around September, can I still buy the eSIM now and activate around September 2023?

  • I have 3 devices.

    iPad pro 2015 cellular
    Samsung galaxy s20 ultra
    iPhone 12 pro max.
    All unlocked

For the iPad can I use the USA 30 day unlimited and just use data only?
For the other 2 just use esim?

    • Hey @opelcalibra

Yes, you can do that; double-check on the product pages that the SIMs support all devices (as some SIMs are mobile phone only).

eSIMs are perfect for your 2 smartphones also.

Let me know if you have any further questions :)

      -Aidan

      • Thankyou, all 3 ordered

  • All EU/UK sims need an activation date. Not sure of travel dates right now so will have to pass this deal by

    • +1

      Hey @cashless

Our 10GB EU eSIM does not need an activation date, so that could be an option for you if your device is compatible.

Alternatively, you can complete the purchase to capitalise on this deal by setting the activation date very far into the future, and then reaching out when you know your exact dates, and the CS team can change it in our system.

Let me know if you need anything else :)

      -Aidan

      • That’s great news & very swift response. Thanks AidanπŸ‘

Let me know if you have any further questions :)

      -Aidan

      • Thanks Aidan.

Any issues buying now for a trip later in the year ? 7-8 months away?

      -Aidan

  • Going to US & Europe - 4 weeks total. Is there a single Esim that will cover this or would I have to go seperate and get a USA Esim as well as one of the UK/Europe esims

    • Hey @Schumi5

You will have to get separate eSIMs.

Let me know if you have any further questions πŸ‘

      -Aidan

  • Does the following include Hong Kong?

    South East Asia Travel eSIM | 10GB | Data-Only | 30 Days

Let me know if you have any further questions 😌

      -Aidan

  • Hi, if I buy 4 esims but for 4 different people, do I get 4 different qr codes?

  • My trip to Japan is in mid May. When do I have to activate the sim cards if I purchase them now?

    • Hey @arctan

Just activate them when you land by inserting the SIMs and restarting your device.

For the eSIM versions, just scan the QR code and install.

      Cheers for the upvote ❀️

      -Aidan

      • Just bought two sim cards (nano). Hopefully it will work well for me.

Reach out if you run into trouble!

          -Aidan

    • -1

I'm in Japan now, and unfortunately 1 of the 2 SIM cards didn't work for me which lead me to wasting half a day of my holiday trying to fix it before I ended up with a refund and having to buy a local one for twice the price.

If possible, I'd recommend an eSIM to help avoid that potential issue - I know it was hugely stressful for me.

      • +1

What was the issue with that sim?

        • No idea, unfortunately.

Not sure why I was downvoted, but as a reseller their options are unfortunately limited for support as they can't simply reallocate the SIM to a different plan/package to clear any software issues, or reallocate that plan to the SIM that worked (I used to work for Optus, we'd do that on the daily).

It was one of the ones that was marked as expired in 2021, but I was assured that it had been renewed.

The first one (2023 expiry) worked great no issues - plugged in and registered immediately with SoftBank 4G.

The second one I was going to use once the first lot of data ran out, but it would just refuse to register (popping up with an error: unable to register on network).

As I mentioned, I worked for Optus up until a few years ago so I knew the troubleshooting steps and nothing worked.
Manually registering the network, constant restarts, changing network APN info, all sorts of resets and restarts; it just refused to work.

The support went through all this, but despite being on the Live Chat and on stable WiFi each message took an average of 12 minutes just to get a reply each time after confirming I had done that step.

Eventually they issued me an eSIM instead and unbeknownst to me (it has been a while since I upgraded my phone/kept up to date) my phone didn't even support one so I spent a good hour figuring that out.

The support knew my make and model of Phone, so that was a frustrating step.

Eventually they said that sometimes they simply don't work, and as a reseller they couldn't look into the issue further, so they issued me a refund.

The refund covered about 75% of a SIM with a quarter of the data I'd had with that SIM.

Shit happens, but the support was definitely a weak spot and cost me a good chunk of the day just to get a refund.

  • Dumb question.
What's the difference (other than 2GB data in Europe for $3) between the 10 & 12 GB EU 30 day 71 countries?
They are so similar, just wondering why both are avail. Not going to UK.

    • +1

      Hey @BBF

Literally just that, nothing else is different πŸ‘

Let me know if you have any further questions!

      -Aidan

  • just want to know I'm using esim with Telstra atm, will getting an overseas esim replace my existing telstra esim? ie contact Telstra to get their esim again once we are back from overseas.

or is it like a toggle on and off for local and overseas esim?

    • Hey @madfish

You can swap between eSIM profiles inside your device.

So its as easy as switching between them when you need to.

      -Aidan

      • thanks mate, bought 2

  • Hi Aidan,

Will South East Asia cover Hong Kong? It doesn't mention. If not, which plan covers Hong Kong, going there for 6 days.

    Thanks

    • +1

      Hey @Concomitant

The SEA SIM does not cover HK.

We have a HK SIM here

It may seem like overkill, but really it's only $3 a day for your 6 days.

      -Aidan

      • Thanks Aidan

        • πŸ‘

  • I'm doing two five day stints in Hong Kong, 30 days apart. Are there any esims for HK for a shorter period of time? Thanks :)

    • +1

      Hey @unoimkll

      Thanks for the upvote!

The only HK SIM we have is here.

Sorry, I don't have anything shorter for you!

Now that China has opened up, we will be looking to expand our China and HK SIM range in the near future.

      -Aidan

      • Cheers Aidan. Bought the 30 day south east asia one in any case.

Thanks so much for all the support so far today.

I am heading to bed tonight and will be up early to answer any questions.

Feel free to leave questions here and I'll get to them ASAP.

    -Aidan 😴

  • Looks promising…!

What do you suggest for the following?
    - South Africa
    - UAE
    - Oman
    - Maldives
    - India / Nepal
    - Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan)

    Note - physical not esims.
    Thanks

    • +1

      Hey @movieman

Quite an adventure you have in front of you πŸ€™

You will need the Tourist SIM to cover all those countries.

We do not have anything for Maldives, though…

You may need to get multiple SIM cards depending on how long you are staying. The one SIM works in all countries and will switch providers as you go from country to country.

      Hope this helps. πŸ‘
      -Aidan

  • I have a trip planned for 6 weeks in the US. Is there a SIM available that lasts longer than 30 days?

    • Hey @acx

We do not have anything longer than 30 days, you will need to get 2 SIM cards and swap them over as you go.

      -Aidan

  • Have Japan trip in December, would you have something with slightly more data (or maybe unlimited data) for 12 days?

    • Hey @Talsek

Currently, we only have the 10GB option, but we are always hunting for new products, it just takes time to find the right suppliers.

      -Aidan

  • When do sims have to be activated by? Have a europe trip in August

    • Hey @didan

Some SIMs will have an expiry date, and some don't you will need to check the product pages of the SIMs to find out. It should be mentioned in 'Things to know'.

Let me know if you have any further questions :)

      -Aidan

  • Hello can you please tell us what happened to those who purchased the 80gb movistar sim as it has now been reduced to 14gb i believe. What are our options?

    Thanks

    • Hey @Lukkyz

All Movistar sellers have been experiencing this issue recently, however, you should still have access to the full 80GB.

If not, reach out to the team and we can organise a partial refund.

      -Aidan

  • I purchased 2 x sims for Japan earlier tonight. But besides my PayPal confirmation I haven't received any emails from Sims Direct.

    • Hey @Circly

      Thanks for the upvote! ❀️

Did you purchase eSIMs or physical SIMs?

Also make sure to check your spam folder.

All emails are automated, and if there is an issue with receiving it we can always get you a new one manually.

      -Aidan

      • HI Aidan,

I purchased the nano sims. Nothing in my spam folder. I also signed up to the newsletter beforehand ($5 discount) but that never came through as well so I just proceeded to purchase. I also tried to create an account but the confirmation email did not come through.

Perhaps I'll need one to be sent through manually.

        • @Circly

Message our live chat on the website with your order number and email, and the team should be able to sort it out for you.
