    What network do they piggyback?

    • +2

      Vodafone

      • +10

        Oh no!

        • +12

Oh yeah, Voda is better than Telstra where I live so I guess it depends on your location.

          • +4

@WatchNerd: Same here. Have tested Telstra, Optus and Vodafone for my area and funnily enough Vodafone gets the tick

          • +1

            @WatchNerd: Same here.

          • +1

            @WatchNerd: Same here.
Though i just recently switched to boost 365 days and now regretting the decision

          • @WatchNerd: I live 5K from Perth CBD. Keep getting “msg not sent” on both phone messages and messenger, even tho’ some later finding they did send, sometimes hours later. Bloody frustrating as I don’t know if they eventually got through or not.

        • Ehh from my experience (and of others in OzB), you should, on average, be getting a decent experience in metro areas.

Obviously in regional/rural areas, go for Telstra or Optus.

But yeah, it's defs a YMMV sort of thing with mobile connectivity.

        • I use it when the large one dies and gives me hell.
Voda looks like an abandoned house so data can actually flow!

FYI: "The unique Kogan Mobile voucher must be redeemed by 11:59pm AEST on 30/06/2023."

    • +10

Voucher must be purchased by 11:59pm AEDT on 14/03/2023. Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEST on 30/04/2023.

    • +1

      I think it's 30/04 not 30/06

      • -1

        i think its 30/08?

        • I got the Dec/Jan 500k for $165 offer. Redeemed 30 Jan, but didn’t port over. Had to ring (on 22 Jan) to get it activated.
          - Looks like I’ll need all 500k due to trying to get messages delivered

    • where you get this from? the email I got after purchase says 30/4

    • That’s for the first month free offer on the linked page. Not the BOGO offer.

well, just got 3 months with boost and I think Kogan is not offering 5g very soon.

    • From the 4th of April 2023, all Boost recharges (except for the $50 and $70 per month ones) will have 5G download speeds capped to 150mbps so you'll have 5G in name only.

150mbps is achievable on 4G LTE.

      • +3

150mbps is achievable on 4G LTE.

Max I have got on 4G is 632mbps!

  • whe do these need to be acivated by!

    • +4

      Two comments above

  • with these am i going to get 2 vouchers and 2 sims?

    • +1

You can say you don’t need a sim but they usually send it out anyway…

  • They insist on having these Buy One Get One Free deals at different times each year, how are we meant to plan for them? Dont they want our $$

    • +5

They probably want different customers and hoping the customers that jumped on the deals end up staying

    • They want you to buy the next one at full price rather than churn through discounted plans in perpetuity.

      • Definitely! The fine print on my 500k/1 yr for $165 says the recharge for the following year will be $529! Set multiple “appointments” in diary starting December to look for new deal. 🤫

  • +4

I’ve been enjoying FREE Telstra 5G with $80 Belong prepaid packs redeemed from … Telstra Plus points lol: activate one pack for mobile with lowest cost option then change plan into lowest one for 3-4 months of usage + activate another pack for 400GB data (used to be 500GB) then gift to mobile number and cancel data sim straightaway (for light user you don’t have to activate one pack for data). When you reach 3rd-4th month of mobile, port it out with FREE trial offer such as Felix then immediately port back with another $80 Belong pack lol

    • This is some fine ozbargaining. Damn

  • +5

buyers be vary, that Kogan no longer offers cancellation of auto recharge feature. (even though they falsely advertise it on their website)
Essentially need to port out before the expiry date to ensure you not getting charged, and not loosing your number

    • +1

Surely not. They can'y force you to stay if you want to cancel (and don't want to port).

Have you tried simply removing all payment methods? That's worked for me in the past.

      • +1

You cannot remove the payment method, but you can replace with another one (which e.g. dont have sufficient funds). aka they need 1 payment method to be there on account.

This works too, Kogan emails saying sim not recharged, please contact kogan etc.

Also you only have 19 days to port out once recharge expires (since you stop receiving sms and calls after 19 days (or 20 days)

        • +1

Surely you can phone to cancel then?

They can't just force you to stay or port. The has to be a cancellation option.

          • +1

@dontpanic: The only option you have when you call them is to ask them to cancel the entire service,
            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13362942/redir

they can apparently cancel it all almost instantly for you, But they wont be able to cancel the auto recharge feature

            • @USER DC: EDIT: oh whoops I didn't realise you had actually linked to my post

A few of us have reported Kogan Mobile reps just disabling the Auto Recharge without cancelling the entire service.

For me it came about as a result of me not having the sim of the service in a device so I couldn't receive the confirmation code from them for them to proceed with the cancellation.

I escalated to a complaint and then a rep spoke with their manager and they just disabled the Auto Recharge only.

            • @USER DC: Ahhh… I see. I just assumed that if you wanted to cancel the auto recharge without porting, then you wanted to cancel the service.

I mainly use Kogan for extra data when working remote - I just use starter accounts and burn them when done, so cancelling the service and number doesn't matter.

            • @USER DC: This and they require verification SMS, so it's annoying if you've already pulled the SIM out

    • +6

+1. they always prove me wrong every time i think they can't go any lower

  • +1

Just made a purchase, 30/4 is the correct expiry date.

  • can we transfer an existing telephone number from a sim card to a prepaid offer from vodafone?

    • Yes. The option to port was at the payment stage for me

  • Sorry to hijack, partner is on woolies 12months 60gb, expiring this month. Call to the experts here, what's the best similar plan? Don't need heaps of data, keen on long life plan, cheaper the better.

    • Amaysim 60gb $120gb 1 year for identical data on Sale for $99 or Coles on sale $119 for 120gb 1 year if you're okay with Coles

    • Port to Mate first and wait for a better deal in 3 months.

    • Thanks guys, I've paid $60 for that amaysim deal last may hence $99 seems expensive ha!
Will probably port to mate and wait

      • yeah same! and it had cashback too!

  • No 5g i presume?

  • +1

Dangit I've been with Kogan for a few years now but Vodafone has just started to suck in my area so was looking to switch to Boost. This is a good deal

  • Can I use this to recharge my current Kogan prepaid plan? Or is this BYGO deal just for new customers(port-in/new phone number)?

    • Keen to know this as well.

Also, how soon can you port back into Kogan after moving to another Telco?

    • -1

No, the voucher does not apply to subsequent recharges.

      • Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t that just for recharges after using this new voucher? Like you can only use this promo once per purchase. Coz I can also see that text saying “voucher does not apply to subsequent recharges” on other vouchers not included in this promo. And there’s no other way of buying the normal L or XL recharge vouchers that I can see on their site.

        • +1

          I may be wrong.
The opposite is written under the description,
What happens after I purchase my voucher code?
After purchasing this product, you will be sent a unique Kogan Mobile vouchers by email within 24 hours and a Kogan Mobile SIM Starter Pack by post. If you are activating a new Kogan Mobile service, visit the activation centre to redeem a voucher. If you are already a Kogan Mobile customer, simply login to your account and use your voucher to recharge. Each voucher can be redeemed for a Extra Large 365 Days FLEX Plan without any additional charge.

        • Every Kogan plan I've purchased has required the voucher code to activate - this is true for every recharge also.

      • No. Just recharged my son's account with it. Not an issue at all.

    • +1

I just bought 2 to recharge 2 current plans that are expiring soon.

    • +1

Yes you can. I just recharged one of mine. Says it is also available for "New and Existing Customers".

  • +1

Thanks bought! Perfect timing as my boost deal was running out

  • is this really much better than woolies prepaid? and woolies you get 10% off grocery once a month, essentially paying for itself after 12 month.

  • essentially paying for itself after 12 month.

only if you spend big at woolworths,

If you shop mix or shop less $$ per transaction or shop at other supermarkets then its not that good value.

    • Depends. The cheapest Woolies plan is just under $11/month. So you can get essentially free mobile to park one number at minimum.

Surely $110 is just one trip in this day and age.

  • I've been using kogan for a few months now and noticed that the network coverage has been very spotty. Often my data will just cut off and not have a receiving signal for 5-10 minutes for no reason. Anyone experience this?

  • can you apply both plans to one number so that it lasts 2 years instead of just 1?

    • +2

Pretty sure that if you enter a new voucher it overrides the previous one and you lose any credit, so no.

      • This is true - only get this if your Kogan is new or about to expire.

  • +1

You can buy Kogan $100 Gift cards from Shopback with a $10 cashback.
AmEx has $10 credit on a $50 spend @ Kogan.
This way two for $270 (L Plans 300GB) will cost only $240.

    • $250 since you can only get 1x $10 bonus Kogan giftcard from SB (it's a gift card not cashback btw)

      • I guess you could leave one $10 gift card for later and use your $10 credit from Amex.
So yes you are right, it will be $250 and $10 left to use later.

        • But you can only get 1x $10 Kogan gift card? Where is the other $10 coming from?

    • i didnt find the $100 with $10 cashback on Shopback? Where is it hidden in?

  • So can we still cancel auto recharge or not?

  • For XL Plans, is it total 500GB or 500GB each for 2 SIMs?

    • 500gb ea

  • +1

I have been with Kogan for a while now.

3 things to keep in mind,

1/ Disable autorecharge as soon as you activate your plan.

2/ They spam you insistently you have to unsubscribe multiple times I report them every year

3/ DO NOT recharge through the login page. Always buy your plan when you are not logged in and simply select "existing customer" for the SIM option. for example recharge for me is $150, buying online without recharge is $120 a $30 saving. I do this every year.

    • -1

Apprently auto charge can't be turned off or you have to cancel the whole service.

      • +1

No it can be turned off. If you have registered a credit card with them remove it under payment methods.

I just this minute finished renewing using the method I described above.

This is the current text on my payment methods page.

        Schedule Auto Recharge

Please register a credit card for Auto Recharge in order to use this option.
Register A New Credit Card For Auto Recharge
Auto Recharge automatically renews your plan each time it expires (until you turn Auto Recharge off). Please nominate the debit or credit card to be automatically charged below.

        • Interesting. Certainly hasn't been the case with the 28-day sims for the last month. No ability to disable Auto Recharge online.

  • Any issues w using this in a sim-enabled modem for home internet use?
    And will speed be capped?

    • +1

My mum uses one of these in her modem and it's fine for 2 years now, coming onto the 3rd renewal. Unsure on speedcap though.

      • Thank you!
Does she use it for streaming services e.g. Netflix?

  • I bought the XL singularly end of last year for $165.

So, yes this is the cheapest by another $15, but if you're still far away from recharging (these have quick expiries), then you can usually pick it up for almost the same price end of the year usually.

If you're new to Kogan or near your expiry, then grab this - great price.

  • I say never again. Here I am again 5th time over. $150 is $150. I really want Boost 5G. Phone is 5G. Oh well $150 it is.

  • Anyone knows hom many kogan giftcards can be entered at the checkout?

    • I think you can redeem unlimited e-gift cards into your Kogan Credit, then tick the 'apply credits' before check out.

  • +1

If anyone is keen on an XL, I have one for sale. Pm me.

    • Dumb question- how do I message you please? If the voucher is still available

      Thanks

    • Take 2 - I figured out how to message you and your profile doesnt accept messages

    • I am keen. Please let me know if it is still available. Thanks

  • Is there a way to stack Amex offers on this deal?
Would purchasing $50 Kogan gift cards trigger the $10 rebate?

  • I am keen for an XL. Anyone have one to share, please let me know. Thanks

    • ..

      • Hi Mel,
I can't send you a message. Can you send me a message? I am happy to buy the 2 plans and send you the details of one. Thanks

        • I cant figure this out. It tells me you dont accept messages either. I definitely have mine turned on.

  • Have a couple of the L plan vouchers (non flex) 25gb/30 days for a year for sale if interested, seems like they've run out of the flex ones?

Anyone else had the same issue?

    • Yes despite adding to cart the 300gb flex with eSim I was emailed the 25gb per 30 days plan with no eSim code…I have contacted Kogan to cancel the order but my current plan expires tomorrow night at midnight so if I don't hear back by then I might have to suck it up and activate the 25gb/month one.
