I've been using a 3H as needed since mid-2020. The filter is at 90% and I still have a spare. I originally bought it to reduce the PM2.5 count inside the bedroom during bushfires.

It has been great for allergies. When heaps of grass has been cut outside, we end up with the sniffles and sneeze.

Running the 3H for a few hours helps stop the sneezing fits.

  • Anyone know how this compares to the midrange Samsung air purifiiers (AX60)

I really want this one, as it seems to have the right blend of power usage, quietness, smarts, integrations, blows air out the top, etc… But, it looks like acquiring filters is a problem, and in a way air purifiers are the new planned-obsolescence items, which is wild for something that's really a fan with some filters on it.

The DIY route is tempting from an effectiveness point of view, but then you actually have to do something, and it'll probably look crap, even though it'll be way better and cheaper than any of these (but only manually operated) https://cleanaircrew.org/box-fan-filters/ and https://the3dhandyman.com/workshop-air-filter-drawings/

I've done DIY and you are right. They work great, they are cheap, and they look like shit. I ditched them once we had kids, unprotected fan blades and Velcro straps are not a great idea.

The Xiaomi 'smart' GUI is also surprisingly good. I usually prefer manually controlled stuff, but the scheduling and speed stepping really changed my mind about smart appliances.

Seriously though, I am not convinced that purifiers are much use in Australia unless there are bushfires. And yeah, I get hayfever and asthma.

      • Where are you getting filters for the Xiaomi from, or do you have a bunch of spares, or using 3rd-party filters?

I bought spares overseas before moving back to Oz, and shipped them over.

  • What is the difference in getting Xiaomi air purifier 'global model' vs 'AU model'.?

  • My friend gave me a Mi Air Purifier that keeps reminding me to replace the filter. However, its HEPA filter is quite expensive. Is there any promotion for the filter?

  • Crazy price - cant remember what i paid for this when i bought, way back when the unit was released. But this seems cheap.
Good little bit of gear, especially when there is the dreaded AU bushfire season running wild…

    No more stressing about filters.

Soft NFC sticker and hardware chip mods.

    • Why neg this?

The ‘Filter Remaining’ percentage keeps dropping even if you don’t use the Air Purifier and the filter is practically new.
