      Thank you, Friend

  • I got one of these. Good quality.

  • +5

You can always find good down jackets at Decathlon that won’t be outrageously priced.

    • Good tip, I just looked and theirs seem to have hoods, plus higher loft filling for the same price

      • Link?

        • +2

          https://decathlon.com.au

They are the Aldi of sport things price wise. Just that they don't copy known brands but have their own ones.

          • @ALBastru: What would be decathlon's equivalent of the Macpac halo down jacket?

            • @UncommonName: I have no idea. But I do have a Decathlon down jacket, very thick, bought from Europe where it could stand cold and frosty winters in there and here I haven’t used it once. The $20 down jacket from Aldi is enough.

          • @ALBastru: I would heavily advise against getting stuff that you're particular on though. Decathlon shoes are awful and not worth glancing at.

            • @Papa Huggies: My hiking shoes from decathon are great, dont get the cheapest pair btw

            • @Papa Huggies: I had some and they were great. Too bad they don’t have physical stores in all capitals. I find their products very good and available in various price ranges for every budget.

  • I have it, it's been great. Will be keen to buy another one if the hooded one goes for sale

  • +2

I really like mine. Down/feathers would occasionally leak or stab me through the fabric when I first got it though lol

  • Tempted for a NZ holiday in July… Will this be sufficient for their winter?

    • +6

Yep. I've taken mine overseas to Japan in Hokkaido where it was snowing. Obvs I still had to layer up, but the jacket held up well and I was warm the whole time. I've had my jacket for years. No issues yet.

  • +1

Is there going to be a v3 this year ?
    This v2 was a downgrade from v1.

  • payment failed :( could be any know reason

    • +42

      you have no money

  • -6

awesome jacket just as good as north face!

    • +11

This is a no frills jacket made with budget (80/20 duck), low loft filling.

It might be as good as the cheapest North Face jackets if they exist, but this is not anywhere in the same league as North Face, Marmot, or whatever, gearnthats been designed for mountain use.

It's cheap, it's warm for walking around town in winter, sure.

I have both the hood and non-hood version. The hood is worth the extra cost in my opinion.

  • Ooh — Wisteria looks like it would go well with jeans…

  • +3

Nice but no black colour so I'll pass

  • +1

Do they offer free returns if it doesn’t fit?

No in store returns or exchange if paid with PayPal is a bit odd. Kathmandu don’t have this limitation

    • +1

When I bought one on sale last year, I ordered a size smaller and it fit perfectly. Usually a Medium in everything but bought a Small in this jacket.

      • +1

I concur. I am a medium and small fit me perfectly.

      • Good to know, I’m somewhere between a Large and a XL, can be hard to know how big the jacket runs. Thanks for the heads up!

        • I am exactly the same and I got the medium and a hoodie still fits comfortably underneath it.

          • @mnaah: Mmmm looking at the measurements, a medium wouldn’t fit me vertically anyway. I’m a tall lad

    • from the loads of comments in previous deals, buy a size smaller than your usual size.

  • +8

Better off to pay another $14 for the geothermal long sleeve top than pay $10 for nothing but just delivery

  • +1

I think Macpac has better filling but Kathmandu has a better shell. (Entry level vs entry level).

    • +1

Then there's also the price difference.

  • +3

Down, down! Price is for down!

  • -1

I just bought this one last week, going to see if I can get a partial refund, this almost seems unfair :)

    • +4

Buy another one. Refund with old receipt.

      • That's an option 👀

      • +2

this should be in the ozbargain 10 testaments

  • What are the sizes like - does it run big/small?

    • +1

Runs on the larger side, can comfortably be worn on top of a couple of layers.

  • +3

Great jacket, got the hooded one and used it last month in my Hokkaido, Japan trip. Was in constant below zero temps and kept me nice and warm.

    • +1

But not worth a '+' Saichi Sugimoto?

  • I ruined my old jacket by putting it in the dryer…. bought a replacement … thanks OP!

    • Huh how was it ruined in the dryer? I put mine in that to fluff it back up and it’s been fine?

      • I put it in my dryer and all the padding just compressed making the jacket kind of useless

        • +2

put a tennis ball or something in to the dryer with the jacket and it should loft up again.

    • +2

      Taken from https://decathlon.com.au/products/trek-500-womens-hiking-dow…

"How to wash your feather down jacket
Here are a few tips: close all the zips on your down jacket and put it in the washing machine (synthetic cycle at 30°C).In order to preserve the fill power and warmth, you can even put 2 tennis balls in the machineBe careful to set a gentle spin cycle: a fast spin cycle may create balls of feathers that are difficult to break up.For more advice, click the link below!https://www.forclaz.co.uk/how-should-i-look-after-my-down-jacket

How to dry my down jacket?
When you take your down jacket out of the washing machine it will seem as if the down has gone A tumble dryer is the best way to restore the fill power of the feathers. Put your down jacket in the tumble dryer with 2 tennis balls Run 2-3 drying cycles. If you don’t have a tumble dryer, you can completely dry your down jacket on a drying rack by turning it over and tapping regularly."

I like to walk a lot,I don't mind walking in the rain if kept dry of course..
Anyone recommend a decent shell for this,i don't really want to spend over $300 either and would prefer Gortex…

    Cheers

    • You can check out Patagonia Torrent Shell. Not Gortex but excellent value for money, especially with their recent 30% off sale (not sure if still ongoing). It has pit zips which you might find them handy.

For the ladies, BCF also have the hooded version for $96.10 using the coupon "CLUB20OFF" when signing up to the club membership using a new email :)

Free shipping is over $100, so need to add a torch or another item >$4 to get free delivery.

    Men's also available in XXL.

    • I've joined the club but the code doesn't work hmmm they even sent me the email with this code

      • Did you make sure to activate your account with the email they sent? You’ll need to activate it first before being able to apply the coupon.

        • Yeah i did. I've tried remove the items and added them again in different browser, still didn't work. Did it work for you?

          • @hero1211: That's quite odd, looks like it has been disabled overnight for some reason. It was working fine when I commented, but just tried again and it's not working. You might need to contact them to apply the discount or wait until it gets reactivated.

    • Thank you! Got one

$109.10 jacket, 4000 clicks and over 100 upvotes. Australia HAF, climate change.

Interest rate still damn too low.

    • interest is a joke and overrated

    • Interest rate increases absolutely screws those new to property, overloaded, or looking to buy their first with tight serviceability. Older folks and those on retirement savings often have more money to spend when interest rates go up.

  • Is this still bit oversized?

    • Yes I think it’s designed to fit over a sweater/jumper.

  • How to clean these? Mine has a bit of smell

  • IIRC I read that the current iteration of the Halo jacket has taken a decided downturn in quality compared to the previous version. Anyone in a position to comment on such assessment?

    • +1

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12368966/redir

More a case of rather than put the price up, rlthey brought the quality down a bit to keep the price the same

In term of warmth, I wore my V1 to NZ and Canberra - no issues whatsoever. Was so happy with V1 so I bought the V2 and just returned it a few weeks ago.

What the previous commenters said about V1 vs V2 were spot on. I'm a size 6 women's in V1 (for reference I'm normally a size 6/8, and wear size XXS/XS in Uniqlo jacket). Size 6 in V2 was tight on the arms/underarms. Size 8 was better but looked rather huge on my small Asian build. It tooked a bit of effort to pack the V2 in its own built in pocket. I had a feeling the zipper might break at any time if I pull it too hard after stuffing the jacket in. The wisteria colorway was very flattering though, but not enough to make me keep the V2. I'd rather save my money for the (improved) V3.

      • I think uniqlo fits better, my korean gf is petite and doesn’t like the Macpac as much as a Patagonia or Moncler lol.

What the heck? I've never seen so much enthusiasm for a jacket. It doesn't seem all that cheap either. Is it like the best jacket ever made?

    • +6

You must be new around here

    • -1

this jacket has a cult following at ozb, it's considered the ozb winter uniform.

    • Look around at other cheap down jackets. This is about as cheap as it gets.

  • I was wondering when the next Macpac deal would appear, temptation got the better of me late March last year when the hooded version was cheap.

I got some decent wear out of it, but the material is easily rip-able lol (happened twice, once on the hood and another on the inside). Still kept me warm.

  • Anyone know if the Halo is warmer than the Mercury?

    https://www.macpac.com.au/macpac-mens-mercury-down-jacket/11…

Mercury is lighter but all other specifications seem to be the same?

    • Fill weight is higher . So yes IMO

      • Mercury is not warmer
        Have both

  • is this same price in store?

  • I have 2, one black, one blue. Do I need a 3rd?

  • Still the gold standard IMHO…

  • -3

What’s the country of manufacture? I don’t want a foreign product

    • +2

      As opposed to this product?

      • Oh I never actually bought that ha

    • Have you checked your current device (smartphone/laptop/computer) which country of manufacturer? Let us know. Kthxbye

I just use same clothes I use in summer and just grow a pair.

    • +7

Grow a pair of what exactly?

      Coz yeah…

      • Damn you just roasted him

        • Good thing he's not wearing a jacket then 😛

      • Now i just feel embarrassed for him.
