2350

Hey guys, been keeping an eye out on the Bose QC45 headphones for a while now…. I think this is the cheapest I've seen in a while even cheaper than the Myer deal posted last month which I missed. Delivery is free with onepass or else its $9.95 (at least for WA). RRP on these headphones is $399.95.

Update: Looks like all colours are sold out only available via marketplace at higher price also I ordered last night and have just gotten shipping confirmation from Catch that my order has been dispatched. Thanks everyone.

Also available in:

Noise cancelling wireless headphones – The perfect balance of quiet, comfort, and sound. Bose uses tiny mics to measure, compare, and react to outside noise, cancelling it with opposite signals.

For anyone wondering, StudentBeans 10% off excludes Bose.

  • +4

Hmm these or just buy new ear cups for my QC35 I's?

    • +3

My daughter just bought the 45s and I compared it to my 25s (which are still going good after 3rd pair of ear cups) and not a huge improvement in sound.

      • +1

You can get a big improvement in sound in the 35s by simply using the headphone cable instead of Bluetooth (assuming you have a headphone jack to connect to)

        • +7

my qc35 ii sound dull af on cable, due to headphone force power off once cable inserted, and no EQ no DSP.

          • @OMGJL: yeeeeep, but then again, you don't get Bose purely for sound quality.

            • @CunningRunt: there's nothing left then, with cable plugged in, sound quality is crap, ANC is disabled because no power. I guess fashion factor? It's a average looking headset, doesn't look amazing anyway.

            • +2

@CunningRunt: 'you don't get Bose purely for sound quality'

I do - I have another pair of 'better' $650 headphones - but they are wired-only and more trebley and a PITA to use with the long heavy-duty cable - and I haven't used them in the last year or so

the Bose QC 15/35/35ii headphones with NC I've been using for at least 10 years for a) blocking ambient noise, b) headphone isolation allowing lower volume listening at better quality less likely to damage my hearing, and c) individual listening pleasure as milady sitting 1 metre from me listens to different media with her laptop loudspeakers which irritate and disturb me if I don't wear headphones - if we both used laptop speakers for different media side-by-side that would create a cacophony, and d) good enough Bose sound quality for a few hundred $$$ is way better than I've experienced from large speakers boxes costing up to $10K, and I've been listening to top hifi since 50 years ago.

Oh - and big box loudspeakers tend to give the perfect balance stereo only in one specific location - stereo in my Bose headphones is perfectly balanced left-right no matter where I sit or walkaround

          • @OMGJL: Cable turns off BT, not power. So you still get Noise Cancelling and Active Equalisers. You can turn the power off and use them passively, but the using the cable doesn't mean no power.

            • @dizzle: I guess you own a QC45? QC35 act differently.

              • @OMGJL: I've owned QC25s, QC35s, NC700s.

All of their BT around ear headphones worked the same. In fact the QC25s were the first to be able to work passively (without battery) when wired, so since Bose released their noise cancelling headphones they have always been powered when wired. Passive mode is a fairly new feature.

The whole idea of them still having the 3.5mm input is so they can still be used on aircraft with in seat entertainment. It would be pointless having noise cancelling headphones that don't do that.

      • can you find out did you hear the static sound from right ear? you can hear it even without music.

    • +1
    • Im on my second earcup replacement pair and the headphones look like new and I can't imagine the sound on the new 45s would be much better. But it is a very tempting price I have to say.

    • I upgraded my QC35 1's over Christmas, and the QC35's are so well-engineered. The difference is so small. The QC45's are definitely better, but the margin is small. I still use my QC35s for gaming, but having the mute function on the headphone is handy for MS Teams meetings so my QC45's are my primary headphones.

  • How long does it take for delivery? also any local shop price match to Catch?

  • Is this the cheapest Australian price for QC45 so far?

    • +2

Cheapest according to previous posts was $238.20 at DJ's last year but looks like it was OOS pretty fast.

      • +1

Good enough for me. Just copped a pair.

  • +4

They seem to be direct import.

    • +1

Looks like you’re right - it mentions a direct import warranty. Any downsides to direct imports?

      • +1

For headphones I don't believe direct import has any major downsides… For phones I would understand different firmware/chargers/accessories. Also it is still sold and delivered by Catch (not marketplace), so if anything wrong they should cover it. I haven't had any issues on the rare occassion I've had to deal with catch customer service, they've been pretty good.

      • +3

depend on what product. Catch often selling electronic with manufacturer issues, which is whole batch has problem, not major but not working well and you cannot return for that. I stop buying from them after bad experience for multipul item, all well known brand.

        • +2

To be clear: You’re saying on multiple occasions you’ve bought items on catch where you’ve somehow been made aware that the entire batch they were selling had slight issues which they intentionally chose not to disclose?

        • +1

Did you buy from marketplace or Catch? I find it hard to believe Catch won't accept a return on a faulty product. I've only returned two products over the years I've shopped at Catch and they've offered to provide replacement or refund on both instances no questions asked….

          • +2

@umoddbro: Agreed. I bought a cheap airfryer <$100 used the hell out of it until it didn't work - Messaged catch, refunded me and didn't even ask for it to be returned.

        • I had the same experience, many years ago, when I actually paid attention to Catch. Bought some Sennheiser earbuds from them. The rubber sheath on the cord started breaking apart after a few months. I complained, and got a replacement. Exactly the same issue happened a few months after.

I came to the conclusion that Catch was buying up bad batches from electronic manufacturers. Not so bad that they're immediately unusable, but bad enough that you'll get bitten down the road some time.

I've never bought anything from Catch since.

      • Usually Bose has worldwide warranty.

        • Check their warranty T&C to be certain. Some manufacturers will give international warranty if you purchase it overseas, but will not honor grey imports.

          • @eciuj: Technically, Bose don't support grey imports (as they have agreements with their authorised resellers not to export to other markets) for warranty even with international warranty.

However, since they closed down their stores, they are less likely to notice. To get warranty support you enter a serial number into their website, it checks the manufacture date and within a standard period they just swap them over.

Where you may run into issues, is when they've been sold 12+ months after they were manufactured. At this stage the serial number check may suggest you're past warranty period and you would need to validate where and when you purchased them for them to provide the warranty service. This is the stage where they may say it's not an authorised reseller and not support it.

            • @dizzle: Do they commonly have issues within the warranty period?

              • @CanadaAye: About as much as any other headphone. No matter how well something is made there will be a percentage that fail. If you check out places like Reddit you'll see a fair number with problems, but that doesn't take into account the amount that are sold, so it looks common, but it's still a small %

    • +1

That also seems to be only listed on the black and white but not the blue and grey.

  • Can anyone recommend a pair of Wireless Headphones $100 or under that will work with a Ffalcon 4k TV (no other devices) for an elderly family member?
    Cheers

    • +5

I'm sure someone will have a better recommendation, but we had an Avantree set for my dad. It had a bypass or something along those lines that meant the hard of hearing person could use the headphones at whatever volume they wanted and someone could still watch the TV at ordinary volume.

      • +1

Second Avantree, I bought a set for my parents on Amazon to use with their TV and they have no complaints.

      • @ironik @umoddbro could I trouble you both for more details pls, looking at getting something similar for a friend's parent. Having the ability to both use BT headphones & the tv's speakers independently sounds like a game changer.

        • +1

I just looked quickly while I'm at work and believe we have the AVANTREE HT5009. I got them off Amazon for around the $100 mark when they were on sale approximately 2 years ago.
Its something to do with the bypass to be able to use headphones and tv speaker… not all of the Avantree have the bypass option though.

          • @ironik: Thank you @ironik greatly appreciated.

            • @adinico: The one I bought was this Avantree Ensemble which was just under $100 last year. Comes with bluetooth base station that you just connect to the TV audio out.

  • Finally! I havent missed a deal, you're a legend sir! Cheers

  • +2

Should I return my Amazon one($339) and order from Catch?

    • Ordered some from Amazon last night, and they shipped 30 minutes ago. :-( But the return fee is only $7 so will send them back (had ordered an airline adapter too so it’s not totally wasted).

      • +15

If you select the 'not compatible/not useful' option then returns are free.

        • Thanks! (First time for a change of mind return to Amazon - although having a payment receipt from an authorised Bose dealer will be handy.)

  • +5

    Thanks OP bought a pair!

Also bought a pair of Bose 700’s last week on a sale ($280) for partner and I ahead of travel this year.

Will be able to use both side by side and give me 2 cents as to which is better

    • +1

I would love to know which is better! Thanks

    • +2

Where did you get the Bose 700's for $280? That sounds like a good price.

      • +1

an eBay seller had them for $300 and eBay gave me a random 6% off code

  • +1

Thanks, bought 2! No cashback available for those that are wondering btw.

  • price match with JB posdible?

    • Same question

    • Doubtful being Catch (not a bricks and mortar store) plus items being grey imports, can't hurt to try though.

      • +1

You can price match the blue as I just did! If in Melbourne need to get delivered at $6 as no stock unless in mildura

        • +1

Yup, they just price matched for me too.

  • Can maybe get 10% off if you have studentbean code

    • tried. doesn't work

    • Studentbean code excludes Bose.

  • Shopback super swap 2% on a $250 gift card would net you an extra $5 cashback.

Any better options than that for catch?

  • Just tried to price match at Bose website. Rep said they can only PM if it’s from JB, Myer or Harvey Norman. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • +2

Price match blue at JB and express ship $8 total 280ish

      • Tried price matching with JB, rep already knew what was coming and rejected it for being a grey import

        • +3

Try again as rep I spoke to said as long as says sold by catch (black doesn’t but blue and white ok). This is why hate jb and only use for convenience or better deal as just depends who you get and in store staff are terrible

  • Can someone help me to know below -

Can these be used for calls in a noisy environment and noise would be cancelled for both me and another person on call or it's just for me.
I bought some headphones Earlier that only cancelled noise for me with ANC, but how do I get noise cancelled for the hearing person on other side of call

    Thanks in advance

    • I can't comment on the 45's, but my 35 II's were a pain in the ass for calls. Sometimes people could hear me clearly, sometimes all they could hear was the noisy environment.

    • Not good for talking with colleagues around, my colleague uses his on Teams call and we can hear people talking in the background

    • +1

The 700s are more optimised for calls than QC series.

  • +1

Not really a deal for grey import. 700s have been cheaper

    • What's a good price for grey imports on the qc45's?

  • +1

    These are grey imports FYI

  • -1

wait for Amazon auto price match… if it last that long

  • +18

wow, it appears Catch just wash their hands of you for Direct Import purchases. It would be enough to steer me away.

    • +2

      Yeah, no thanks.

    • +3

      There's always a catch…

Wonder how this would hold up against ACL, dont think COTD can simply wash their hands of this that easily…

    • +1

I wonder if that's legal. They're pretty old terms if they're talking about IncoTerms (2010) and an out-of-date import duty threshold, and a government dept that doesn't exist and hasn't existed for ten years.

Tbh i wonder if these terms predate Australian Consumer Law and whether agent/supplier "agreement" can ever be applied in these circumstance given the website is targeted primarily at the retail market.

      EDIT: Not legal advice.

  • -7

At this price, I seriously doubt if it is an original or the kind of exact looking chinese fakes u get on aliexpress

  • Wow headphone price drops left right and centre, always happens after a purchase right? I think Ill still be happy with my XM4s but this price makes me want to reevaluate the decision.

      • I mean Catch has sold dodgy shit in the past and they are hardly discerning when it comes to the products they do sell but I have never heard of them selling actual fakes. Is there any way we can verify this?

        • -7

From the other comments. This is a marketplace product and not being sold by Catch. They take no responsibility for the product it seems.

          • +7

@usbc activist: I just checked the page and it says sold by catch in their Melbourne warehouse. On the right below the add to cart and one pass buttons.

  • +1

I wasn't expecting to own another set of Bose QC's this morning, but here we are. Thanks OP.

  • +3

Only the black and white are imports. the blue and grey does not have the import notification.

    • +4

      Thanks!

I just bought the grey colour ones and double checked with catch support to make sure they're Aus stock which they are!!

      • +2

Haha thanks for confirming, I yolo-ed the grey colour hoping they weren't grey imports

  • +1

    I'm confused..

Clause 5.2 of the Catch direct import terms says:

Direct Import Goods are shipped directly to you from overseas.

But the product page (for 'Triple Black') says:

    Item location: Melbourne, VIC
In Stock - Leaves warehouse in 1 - 2 business days
    Sold and delivered by Catch”

Also, Clause 5.4 (in the same link above) says:

You will receive an order confirmation from Catch when you purchase Direct Import Goods, and an invoice from the Supplier.

But I purchased the triple black last night and I got a tax invoice from Catch, with them listed as the seller:

    Catch.com.au
    Catch.com.au Pty Ltd
    ABN 22 149 779 939

So is this a direct import or not?

    • +6

Just follow up to this. I spoke to Catch support (via phone) and they said the triple black stock was Australian Stock.

  • Where is the best place to get replacement cups for my Q35 II's?

    • eBay

    • Earpads only last about 6-12months if you wear them regularly, helps to buy a few pairs if you use them alot. I think i'm on my 4th pair now.

    • ebay or Ali. The genuine ones are ~$60 .

  • +1

I just bought the Anker q45 for $165. I'm likely to only use them on flights and didn't want to spend large on Bose or Sony. I'm tempted to get these instead for the brand, better styling/comfort, and likely better resell and availability of spare parts.

    • These hold their value remarkably well, can find the older generation headphones still going for a couple hundred.

      • +1

I stuck with the Anker. The features seem better, and I didn't really need to spend an extra 60%. Chances are I'll never sell them or need spare parts anyway.

  • anyone has owned this headset, do you hear the static sound come out from right side?

    https://www.reddit.com/r/bose/comments/q7aony/hissing_noise_…

    https://www.reddit.com/r/bose/comments/t2iuqz/crackling_nois…

    • Not at all. mine is probs 6 months old, no issues, and loving it.
current one i have is black and i ordered the grey one, love that colour.
