  • i came across this company in my search the other day, as I'm shopping for a new provider. Are they any good (service/product/..)? Anybody has experience with them?

    • +3

Customer service is among one of the worst of all the telcos. Would strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you aren't willing to deal with the BS.

    • +1

Have been with them since august last year, no issues with their internet service. Haven’t needed to call customer service so can’t comment on that.

    • +1

I've been a customer for 7+ months now. Even switched my mobiles over to them. Never had a single problem, so can't really comment on the customer service.
I just know that initially signing up and transferring to them was super easy and fast.

    • I churned over from Aussie 6 months ago.. no problems at all, I'm on 100/40.. I almost always get 105-110 down.. not a single outage and I know in that time Aussie has had several. I did my 6 months and they just offered me $10 off for another 12 so I'll hang around.

I have been a customer of Exetel continuously since 2004 (ADSL days) and had up to three locations (home plus businesses) with them.
Initially they were awesome. Great service with some of the best pricing around.

The last 5 or so years though have been getting steadily worse and worse.
Any issues are met with a generic call centre approach.
We had an issue with the Voip phone not working properly that took ages and ages of speaking to various people to try and get resolved. Each time you call you have to go through the same thing over and over again (eventually took the phones away from Exetel and put them all on Voipline as it was never properly fixed).

Earlier today I moved our last service that was with Exetel to another provider. I actually gave my month's notice about 2 weeks ago, but happy to forgo the extra couple of paid weeks just to be done with them. Way too much hassle, just not worth the savings any more.

I even had a referral code from the days when they were still ok. I haven't given it out to anyone in years - don't want to devalue my own reputation.

About the only positive thing I can still say is that they provide a static IP as part of the monthly fee.

      • Been with exetel for the same ammount of time.. no issues with them. Had a few friends change to TPG and they got torrent warnings when they were not even downloading. happy to stay with them .. hassle free net

        • Exactly, torrent are cool part of it

        • No problems with torrents on Exetel? Looking for a new provider to join.

      • Agreed, static ip is awesome, I'm on FTTP so never issues over 4 years

  • Does Exetel provide public IP instead of CGNet?

    • +4

They have CGNAT by default, but can be changed to a public static IP at no charge.

      • Do you need to call them? Or just switch to static IP in member online portal?

        • +1

Can be done in the online portal thankfully.

  • Not sure if they still put a credit check on your credit report

    • In the FAQ it says they may

      • Do you know if they do credit check for returning customers?

I don’t want to have a credit check from them every 18 months.

    • I joined 6 months ago, no credit check on my file..

  • Does not work well with VPN when working from home…

    • +2

It might be due to the default CGNAT they put you on, but you can switch it to static IP in member account portal.

      • +1

Yep can confirm, I called them when I was having work from home issues and they changed something which fixed it up.

I've had no issues with them. For any current customers, I called them a few days ago to cancel due to price and they took $15 off for 6 months.

  • Who’s considered a new customer here ?

I tried them before as part of my usual 6 monthly rotation between providers and they were alright.

  • +4

They also need 30 days formal notice before churning away too.

  • +3

Regarding the 30 days notice before cancellation or churning away, set a reminder in your calendar app, and then just use the contact us form
    https://www.exetel.com.au/contact-us. Done. Takes ~<5 minutes.

Usually not too much of an issue for sudden nbn deals from other ISPs as they usually allow you to set connection date, so you can set it later while you give Exetel 30 days notice.

  • Has been with them around a year before, speed is good for download/upload and ping is good, except there is 30 days notice before disconnect. I always switched between ABB, Superloop and Exetel, they all has been good. Any ISP is good too, prefer Superloop and Exetel pricing.

  • Pain to churn from this mob, also they require auto payments.

    • Yeah and a 1% card surcharge if you don't pay by direct debit. $10 dishonour fee too if DD fails. Can't even pay by BPay.

But I do like their 5 free speed boosts per month which can stack up to 30 days.

  • +1

The worst provider I had! Constant dropouts lasting for around 20-30 minutes at least twice or thrice a week.
Changed the provider last month using this deal and happy about it.
Every time I switched the network provider, the previous connection was terminated automatically. But not with them. I had to call them and terminate it manually after switching and they charged me for the time I didn't even use the service!

    • I think your issue might be the 30 day notice required… no other company I know of has this.

I've been with them for about 5 years, no problems at all… my only gripe was well I churned to another company last year to try take advantage of new customer promotion only to be slugged with an extra month as they require 30days notice. Sounds like your issue.

Anyway, the new RSP didn't have POI in my city, which resulted in higher latency, so my son forced me to churn back to Exetel. Edit* and they allowed me to keep my grandfather plan (even though this has gone up recently).

I'm more than happy with their service and support.

      • Good for you!
But in my case, I had to jump the ship due to constant lengthy dropouts. Then came that 30 day notice issue. Not acceptable in this day and age, I think.

      • TPG and Superloop need 30 days notice.

        • +1

Just switched from Superloop to Exetel.
Rang up superloop about the 30day notice, rep guy didn't seem to care and just told me to notify them again once the internet had been switched over.
So my 30 day notice became a 3 day notice.
got a text message after switch asking if I switched and replied yes to close my account.
so luck of the draw I think

        • +2

superloop doesn't need 30 days notice.

          • +1

@sunyuanxin: Superloop recently updated their policy.

You may cancel your service at any time by giving Superloop thirty days’ notice (including if you do not wish to continue to use your service during the notice period).

    • Do you have FTTP?
Im looking at joining but want to know if the connection dropout is FTTP related. ACCC ranked them in top 3.

  • I was with exetel, have 30 days notice, they called me and put me on a cheaper plan, I said thanks and then gave 30 days notice again a few days later. price they gave until the tio got involved. Their reasoning for removing discount kept changing. They decided not to honour the discounted

I would do anything for a bargain but refuse to deal with terrible companies that have poor behaviour and therefore I am never moving to exetel, regardless of the deal.

Also the cash rewards bonus failed to be paid after 8 months and was still pending. It has been a few months since I queried it with no updates from exetel

  • Was with Exetel previously, constant drop outs and sometimes after I speed boost, the internet got even slower (50/20 plan). With Auspost broadband now and it's so much more stable

  • +1
    • bump your download speed up one plan for a 24 hour period
    • unused days roll over for one month

    Not correct.

Its not always 1 plan increase, 50/20 goes to 100/40, that's 2 plans.

    I have 29 days banked, it's not roll-over for 1 month, it's a maximum of 30 days banked.

      • that's why I specified download speed, I'll replace "plan" with "tier"
      • ah thanks the wording wasn't that clear to my

      How's the speed and service?

      • +1

Good, I joined last year in July due to the free FTTP upgrade and I went with 100/20 but I didn't need that speed always (let alone 250/25).

I'm tech savvy though so I've never had to ring tech support.

Also they support IPv6, a big bonus for me and maybe to others.

    • Its not always 1 plan increase, 50/20 goes to 100/40, that's 2 plans.

50/20 goes to 100/20 for me on FTTN

      • Can you get 100/40 on your FTTN connection?

  • Anyone use them in Perth? How’s it like with CGNAT and do they have a PoP (point of presence) in Perth?

I’m currently with AusPost Broadband (when there was that 15% + 10% off deal) and my connections go through Sydney/Melbourne first which is rather annoying at times (like web searches it keeps giving me Sydney locations).

I want to avoid this so hoping Exetel doesn’t do that same.

  • if I move from Telstra, can I make use of existing modem?

  • Any one no if existing Exetel customers can upgrade a plan with the 6 month discount or is it for new customers only? After the 250 plan to have the free NBN upgrade to FTTP

  • I suggest leaptel instead.
