  • Cleanable in an ultrasonic?

    • +3

Take your time to disassemble it.

Seen plenty of folks clean truckloads of gpus this way in Asian GPU farms after all the altcoins tanked. Just have to make sure its fully dried before you reassemble it.

The only thing i wouldn't put in an ultrasonic cleaner are the fans, everything else is fine.

Seems a fair chunk of change to risk on ex-mined cards..

There's been a few metrocom ex-mining gpu deals posted over the last year, most seem to have had no issues

      • +2

yeah, generally mining cards are baby-ed at low voltage and without repeated thermal cycles, so the wear is functionally less than gaming gpus. generally.

      • Running a metrocon ex-mining rx 6700 xt powercolour red devil and it's fine. Looked basically brand new.

    • Yes it is a bargain. You can tell by all the upvotes on the deal and the downvotes on your comment.

        yea sure . .
just because mcdonald's always has a queue of people means everyone should do it.

        lol

        that's all this is

        enjoy your happy meal lol

These comments always seem to come from the people that never actually post any deals themselves.

    • Yeah members on this gpu section of the website are demented. So brainwashed they actually think this is a good price. They are the problem with the whole gpu market

      • he he he.

        well said, well said.

        $350 for this trash lol

FWIW, my brother bought an ex-mining 6600xt and it blew within 2 weeks, fried the motherboard along with it. Seems like something must shorted internally and put voltage across the pci-e slot — I've never seen anything like it. He managed to get it refunded in the end after fighting through ebay.

I still think mining cards can be a good deal, but that anecdote has changed my view on the overall risk a bit.

Is he sure it's the GPU?
Sounds more like the PSU overvolted and blew everything with it, much more likely, especially if he is upgrading hardware without upgrading the PSU.

      • +3

I don't know the full details, but seems unlikely (though possible) to me. It was a 750w platinum PSU that was working fine earlier and has been working fine since. I didn't hear about any indications of failure from the PSU, e.g. blown caps.

    • possible to just run the card under stresstest for a few days straight just to test if the vrms are all fine and dandy? if it breaks than you are still covered under the 3 month warranty

    • What a nightmare! Was the CPU ok?

      • +2

CPU, memory, SSD all survived thankfully!

  • I've had a Radeon 6800 from Metrocom for 5 months now and it still works perfectly fine.

  • I had a look at these previously seems the saphire sold out

  • +1

We still got a few MSI Mech OC and Sapphire Nitro.

Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 6700 XT

    • which would be your pick out of the bunch for 6700xt?

  • -2

Not even half price. Unfortunately I bet there are suckers who buy these. Too dumb/apathetic to realize they're making it all worthwhile for the miner.

  • +3

Jun from metrocom is a great guy. I had an old dell from him with GTX 730 failing after a couple of months. Replaced without any issues.

  • +2

Kudos to MetroCom for being one of the few vendors bringing bulk used mining GPU's to the Australian market, at a respectable price discount relative to new. A bit of competition is good for the market! And for being afterpay discount compatible!

Arrived today, very clean, no rust, some oil or something on the plate, few scratches but whatever.

Yanked 1070 out, put 6700 xt in, had trouble with the screws because I'm dumb and fingers are shit.

Stresstested for a couple of hours, loaded up cyberpunk for the first time since release for a run around.

All good so far and very happy. Let you know if it burns down my PC.

    Thanks for meantime!
