  • Do you have to pay through afterpay? didn't even know that was a thing 😂

    • +1

No, signed up and authorised payment on credit card.
Didn't need Afterpay to get the discount.

If you need Afterpay to cover your internet bills, you have much bigger problems.

    • +2

If afterpay is allowed for my internet bill then I’m happy to use it for the turnover to keep my mint tier.

      • -1

I'm told that all those schemes just wreck your credit score. Totally.

  • +7

I'm not quite sure how this is a deal when you can get 100/20 with Superloop for $73.95 per month for the first 6 months, then it defaults to $89.95 after that.

    • +2

Who should I move to from superloop

      • Exetel, they are owned by Superloop and use the exact same Support Lines etc.
You just have to wait 1year before you can rejoin Superloop as a "new customer"

        • They are not the same quality - I am on the 250/25 tier, and I moved from Superloop to Exetel and the drop of speed is so obvious. Even using the speed booster to upgrade to 500/50, the speed is not on par with Superloop's 250/25. So go figure.

          • @mountaineer: I did that exact same move to the exact same plan and im getting identical speeds.
My 250/25 package on Exetel is doing 270/25…

For me there was 0 noticeable difference other than needing to enter PPOe details into my router where SL didnt require that.

            • +1

@JPNx: You have your lucky star with you mate.

    • 100/20 is $68.95 first 6 months with Exetel then $84.95

    • +3

Yup, ABB is officially getting weighed down by their self-imposed, increasing costs.

Seems to be the way: start as relative low cost for your service level offering, then lose track of what you're doing and morph into something about as competitive as Telstra or Optus. Too many people jumping on the gravy train in a commercially competitive industry.

      • +1

ABB now advises there cost is based on there online reviews, Thats what i was told when i asked for a price match before i left.

      • AussieBroadband has never been about being the cheapest provider.

People are willing to pay for good service, and you get very good service, you just pay extra for it.

I’m with Superloop, and the internet service is actually exceptionally good… if you ever have to speak to their customer service team however, it’s no where near the level of service you get with AussieBroadband.

I’ve been a customer of both, so have some experience with this.

        • relatively low cost for your level of service offering

    • +1

There's more to value than price.

  • "Congratulations! Your home is eligible for a nbn™ $0 fibre upgrade with selected plans"
Does that mean they will ask nbnco to upgrade my fttn to fttp? If so, it means I will be without internet meanwhile?

    • +6

No you will be on FTTN until the day they turn on FTTP.

I paid $28k for the upgrade so you are getting a good deal….

      • +1

Doesn't seem so smart now does it paying all that to upgrade

        • +3

Same can be said paying $xyz for anything but if you value the joy highspeed internet brought you, or even a boost for your business, it is worth it then.

          • @mountaineer: 28k to upgrade to fibre is taking the piss tho but agree

            • @chris666: True, it is lots of money I will never pay myself. But different people value different things very differently so each to their own.

      • I paid $28k for the upgrade

I was wondering anybody will actually paid for it.

      • That is incorrect, you can order the NBN Fibre upgrade for free. Also if your in an area that isn't eligible for a free upgrade, you can get NBN Enterprise Fibre installed for free if your running a business. NBNEE, Enterprise Ethernet is more expensive then the standard Fibre though as its symmetrical.
You get the same speed for upload and download with NBNEE.
Just contact your chosen NBN provider for details.

        • Umm what is incorrect?

          • @TheCandyMan2020: You aren't stuck on FTTN or other older technologies, once NBNCo send you that letter about the free upgrade you can put in a request with your provider to upgrade to Fibre to the Premises for free.

            • @Chaddy: Did anyone say you were stuck??

              • @TheCandyMan2020: NBNCo aren't doing an automatic switch from FTTN or FTTC to FTTP at the moment, you need to specifically order the switch from a provider, your original post read like NBNCo were automatically switching people.
Be nice if they did though.

    • +1

You can have both services running as they're on separate lines (one copper, one fibre). I recently converted and left myself about 2 wks overlap between TPG cancellation and ABB fibre install. Once the fibre was installed, i just left the router configured to it and didn't look at TPG again.

    • Mine was a pretty painless process. Two visits needed, 1st tech puts fibre to house. 2nd visit later puts the NTD inside.

My first nbn tech connected fibre to the wrong house. So I ended up out in the street at 7am pulling my own fibre through the pit from down the road with the 2nd nbn tech.

  • no opticomm sad

    • I'm with Opticomm - they agreed yesterday to the $109 a month plan for 250/25 for a six month term. Your other option is to go with Leaptel, who have pretty good deals on for Opticomm users.

      • Thanks did they charge you connection fee?
        Shows me $99

        • Nope, I'm already with them. If you are new to Aussie bb then you will have to pay the connection fee

  • +27

Oh look, another offer for new customers only. Fck all you loyal customers who've been with us for years.

P.s you're still more expensive than other providers with these shithouse offers.

    • +7

I received an offer from Origin Energy today (for context I'm already with Origin Internet).

      • 12-month Paramount+ subscription (worth $89.99 incl GST)
      • $180 off internet for 12 months when bundled with energy ($15 per month)
For new Origin internet and Paramount+ customers only.

I called up Origin Internet and asked them if I could get the same deal. No dice. I said, "OK what do I need to do to cancel?" and I was put through to the Retention team.

Retention team agent said (as expected) that the offer is only available to new customers. I asked "So what can you provide to existing customers that are already paying you a monthly fee?"
The response: "We can't offer you anything more than the discount you are already receiving." (I'm paying $94/mth)
I said: "Well, clearly, you can offer something more as you're offering more to new customers. But Origin Internet chooses not to worry about existing customers. Why should I stay with you then and not go to another provider that's cheaper?" (for those that aren't aware, Origin Internet is basically ABB)
Retention agent said: "We provide you with a $10 discount every month and have a leading class and on-shore internet support."
I said: "Yes, but that $10 discount only equates to $5 since your plans are $5 more expensive than ABB, and your support team are in fact ABB agents - they are just dedicated to the Origin account."
Agent: "Well, that's somewhat true, I guess, yes…."
I asked: "So there's nothing you can do for existing customers, but you'll happily let existing customers leave instead of wanting to keep them?"
Agent: "We can't offer you anything more than the discount you are already receiving…"
"Yes, we covered this already - you can offer something more but not to retain customers - only to get them on the hook, I get it. Thanks for not bothering to try and retain existing customers - I'll organise a new connection with another provider tomorrow and call back to cancel."

Moral of the story: Vote with your wallets. They'll do everything to get you locked in with the hope that you'll stick around, but when it comes to retention and customer loyalty, they really don't GAF (as expected). Never hurts to ask and find out though.

I'll be moving back to ABB again, thanks OP.

      • +6

All I'm hearing is that the retention team answered your question multiple times but you were persistent to argue…..just because you don't like the answer, doesn't mean it's the wrong answer

      • Just leave them, they don’t care about you because they know you won’t leave.

You even admit it yourself…”I'll be moving back to ABB again”

        • Already left them this morning.

    • +1

Why don't you churn, then come back?

Or just go to a cheaper competitor and stay?

      • Most now require you to not be a customer for 1 year..

        • +1

Well, just leave then? And save money at the same time. Instead of just being an angry customer, be a happy ex customer elsewhere. Unless there's something vitally important that ABB provides that others don't, staying for years and being angry seems stupid.

    • +1

I share your frustration however at the end of the day I simply can't fault their customer service. Changing providers every several months chasing $10 a month savings isn't worth the effort for me. Their planned/unplanned outage notifications are second to none. The good news is people are leaving major providers in droves so competition with minor providers is heating up. In the meantime the best thing to do is encourage others to make the switch and give them your referral code

      • I change monthly to save $60 a month, but not enough free month promos anymore

  • +3

I’m an existing customer and I’m not happy. I wanted to downvote the deal but it’s unfair to op. I’m annoyed 😑

    • Why is it unfair to OP ? There’s nothing wrong with negging a deal.

      • being targeted to others doesn’t make it not a deal

        • it's not targeted .. definition of targeted deal..

Targeted deals are only available to a selected group of people and not open to the general public.

this is open to the public..

          • +1

@Savas: it’s not open to existing customers

    • +4

Why is it unfair, you can get 100/20 from Leaptel for $15 cheaper. This isn't a bargain.

      • Cheaper than the discounted price?

      • +2

You can also get dodo for cheaper again,. its a shit service but at least it's cheaper, right? Or is value more than price alone?

        • If we're signing up to reasonable price for crap service, I would go back to TPG.
          Are they still cheap?

    • +2

Existing customers call and complain tomorrow. Tell them you are disconnecting and going to Telstra.

      You'll get $20 off for 6 months.

      • Will try it tmr. Thx 4 the hack

        • Tried yet?

          • @superforever: Nudged for $10 off for 12 months but it wasn’t a pleasant experience

            • @AussieGargain: Yep got the same today (my $20 per month for 6 months expires shortly - I am on the 1000/50 plan)

I am churning to Telstra next time they have a decent offer - just to send a clear message that not rewarding existing customers for their loyalty while constantly offering new customers much better pricing is bs….

              • @TheCandyMan2020: It IS a BS. I don’t get why ABB as a successful business don’t care about the existing customers. They certainly know what customer retention is. I don’t get why they don’t care about customer retention but they care customer service at the same time.

      • I did my FTTN>FTTP "flip to fibre" conversion from through Aussie Broadband as existing isp, iinet, don't offer it. Magically iinet then wrote and said they'd do FTTP 250Mbps for the same price I was paying for old FTTN 50. Which ABB just couldn't match (did ask them). So basically ABB presumably paid nbnco to do my upgrade, got a few days of billing from me then I flipped back. I felt bad, then remembered these providers all screw over existing customers so no tears.

        • So basically ABB presumably paid nbnco to do my upgrade, got a few days of billing from me then I flipped back. I felt bad

Are you sure you can do that? As I remember ABB said need to stick with the 100/40 plan for a year to get free FTTP upgrade.

          • @superforever: Yep. nbnco "request" that "flip to fibre" customers stay on at least 100/40 for a year, but you're under no obligation to do so. ISP may impose their own conditions I guess. But I just churned out no problem.

            • @hotphil:

But I just churned out no problem.

Hope they won't charge you for the rest of the year.

              • @superforever: Yeah, all good, they're not.

And the new contract with old ISP is month-by-month too so I can leave them at any point also

                • @hotphil: Good, they did ask me I have to stay with them for 1 year for the free FTTP upgrade, I am not sure if that is already a contract.

Anyway I think I am already over a year.

    • +3

You'd have to downvote every service offer ever. Existing customers never get preferential treatment.

  • $99 connection fees

    • That’s standard for new properties

      • New developments are $300.

    • +1

Aussie BB don't charge a $99 nbn connection fee.

  • Why is this a deal? My supplier is Spintel and I am only paying $65.67/month for 50/20

    • ABB is probably about 20% better than Spintel

      • about 20% better than Spintel

        More

  • +3

I've been with ABB. Good company. I only left because the now dead MyRepublic offered 1000/50 for $99 a month.
    I jumped on that.
They have since closed down and I got auto moved to Superloop (owned by Exetel). I'm still on the 1000/50 for $99.

    • Wow, that’s an amazing deal

      • +1

IKR. As you can imagine, I was a little worried when I got switched over that I would lose it but so far no issues.

  • Is ABB worth $25 extra over More Telecom?

    • Depends, is More Telecom giving you the speed you paid for 99% of the time?

      • I'm not actually with More but I'm looking to move there (or ABB/Superloop etc). Never been on a gigabit plan before.

      • +2

For me More Telecom has given me 99% of the speeds anytime day or night 900Mbps + on HFC

CBA discount for 12 months at (30%) $104.30 is a no brainer for me, then 10% after 12 months which brings it to $134.10 with sticky ip still cheaper than ABB

        • CBA discount for 12 months at (30%) $104.30 is a no brainer for me, then 10% after 12 months which brings it to $134.10

Good to know about the discount.

How new is More Telecom? I don't want speed to drop after a few months when more people signed up like MyRepublic

    • +1

Not at all.. Stick with More telecom

  • +2

What's the procedure of changing NBN? Do I just apply for new one then call ABB to cancel and get a pro-rata refund?

    • +1

Most don’t do pro-rata refunds. The best way is to sign up for a new provider and schedule the starting date to be towards the end of your billing cycle.

  • So if I read the terms right I can get my Mrs to sign up as she's not an authorised contact and I can save $30 a month. That's good!

  • +1

Love AussieBB but it would be nice if loyal customers that have been with them got discounts too

    • Loyal customers pay for the discounts.

I signed up with ABB for a free month and churned out after that month and paid nothing. Churning is the way of the world, thank you existing customers.

      • I’ve been wi the Aussie since I could get NBN. Just be nice to have a discounted rate for loyal customers

    • +1

It's not abb. Nbnco pays isps for new signups that's why all isps offer these deals. Nbn is scummy, showing these as new signups when it's same users moving isps to get a discount.

      • Ahhh ok makes sense

        Still be nice tho hahaha

  • I’m currently with Spintel, on 50/20, and pay just $53.99 (for 6 months, and then will move onto another cheaper deal, probably Exetel for $54).

So just check around, you will get a better deal.

  • Existing customers complaining that they aren't getting discounts, why would you? You're already a customer.

    • Business 101: The cost of acquiring new customers is five times higher than the cost of retaining existing customers.

  • ABB is not competitive anymore, Leaptel is where it's at! @LeaptelRep

  • Hi, champs,
Quick question: I live in SE Melbourne and use Spintel from the last Black Friday sale. I signed up for 100/20; however, my best speed is ~70/20, and the ping is terrible for online gaming(expected with Spintel in Melbourne). Any recommendation? I don't mind paying a bit more
