Not a massive price drop but these are great if you never mastered how to use a tamper with a handle. It's much easier to get consistent results because of the rebate and depth adjustment.

The cheapest 53mm I could find is NEOUZA 53mm Coffee Distributor & Tamper $25.99.

Get this. Saved me a lot of time

  • Does anyone know if this is 58mm or if it might be a better 58.5mm possibly? Listing just reports 58mm so I'm thinking it might be the more 'generic' size which is often a little undersized?

    • Interested to know this as well, exactly 58mm fits just a tad too small for my basket.

    • I have the 53mm one and it has a bit of space around the edges but I just tap three sides to get the grind back to the center. if you can get 58.5mm, go for it

I use this with Breville Barista Express (BES870). Very satisfied about the quality and it saved me a lot of time.

I think you use the smaller version (53-54mm) for barista express. I think this larger one is meant to work with the bigger basket for the breville dual boiler. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?

      • That's true but doesn't change the fact it's exactly the same device, purpose and effect. Just different ⌀.

Yep, just wanted to clarify as some people might buy the 58mm one from this deal thinking it will suit their barista express, which uses a 54mm size basket.

      • Ah you are right. My one is smaller version.

      • Sunbeam Cafe series also 58mm

  • Asking in complete ignorance… Do these replace a tamper? I always thought they were just for distribution and you then tamped after. But like I said, I am woefully ignorant and would love to be educated :)

Bro I posted 2 youtube links in the description.

    • Yes, one side is the tamper and the other the distributor. Removes the need to use a standard tamper and produces more consistent results, from what I've heard.

      • I used this for months I just use the one side and push it hard enough to tamp while Spinning it

        Seems to do the trick

it does sort of replaced the tamper but I would recommend getting a proper one like this:
      58mm - https://www.amazon.com.au/Normcore-58-5mm-Coffee-Tamper-Spri…
      https://www.amazon.com.au/Normcore-58-5mm-Espresso-Coffee-Ta…

This gives a more consistent pressure. I used to have issues where the whole puck tilts towards one side when I tamp but the ring around this tamper stops that from happening.

      • The combo distributer/tamper in this deal will be just as consistent if you weight your beans before grinding. It also has a ring to ensure a level tamp and is adjustable via threads to set a consistent press. Pressure only matters if you don't press enough, so long as you have removed the air pockets between the grains pressing any harder wont matter, but not pressing enough will matter.

WDT and a 58.5 tamper will produce better shots 10/10 times

  • I got this a couple weeks ago, as well as a bottomless portafilter and basket. Unfortunately it's not a great combo, it's actually too short for the portafilter I'm using, so I just use the polisher, and tamp with the Breville supplied tamper.

Pretty sure if you have the standard Breville handle then it will be good though.

    • I have one from ages ago and find it is fine. Definitely not too short after extending it a little, you may be under dosing if there's that much head room. I think 58.5mm would be slightly better as there is a little gap on the sides but works fine still.

    • How deep is your basket? There is quite a bit of depth adjustment you can make on this thing. Have you tried adjusting it?

      • yeah, but I legit need to take one of the black rings off to get it tall enough, and by then it's just easier to use it just for polishing and use the tamper with the machine.

    • Did you get a squared off (not stepped) basket?

What bottomless portafilter did you go with etc please and thankyou?

  • For all the tight ass nerds out there (3D print whatever size you want)

  • EBay has these for around $22. I had a $20 voucher, so paid $2.
