  • Can this badboi cut vinyl transfers ?

    • +3

Can it do its primary function? The thing it was specifically designed to do?

      Nope, sorry.

      • Reviews look dismal. Is it really that bad?

        • I think that it does what is does well but people want more out of it and the company makes you buy there products that work best on it. At that point you could look at a more commercial unit or even a ebay one.

Just comes down to software and UI which is more the CRICUT is so easy to use.

I'm tempted to get one so I can label my daughter's clothes. I know there is cheaper things out there that do it. but will make up the cost soon than latter.

      • Yeah so I think it actually can’t and is just for cutting paper for scrapbooking

  • Officeworks price match?

I read "Circuit Maker" and got extremely excited thinking this is something that can make PCBs…

    • It can be used to do that apparently. Cut the vinyl pcb layout, stick to copper sheet and then use etching solution.

    • I did the exact same thing! thought it was something like the voltera v-one!

  • Whats the best use case for YOU, the one reading this comment, yeah You, I am talking to You.

Me? Getting back into stencil art, making vinyl stickers, some clothing work. Need that price to come down a bit more though.

Besides engraving, printing t-shirts, and making cards/crafts what else can this do that's useful day to day?

I was really interested in this at one stage, then I found out a lot of proper laser cutters are actually cheaper on eBay. Was waiting for a promo then got distracted… That was two years ago 😆 Would still consider laser cutters over this thing personally.

    • I built a laser cutter and there is limitations that a Cricut doesn't have.

The two main negatives of a laser cutter are toxic gas and browned/burnt edges.
Vinyl turns into chlorine gas in a laser, which is… not good. The burnt edges can be mitigated with correct speed and power settings on paper, but they are still there.

Also the laser is f*#king dangerous, my co2 machine is 40kv and 90w of invisible cutting deadliness. Thankfully its fully enclosed and with a big extraction system that runs through multiple filters before venting outside.

The cheap diode lasers are just asking for trouble they often have no enclosure so all those toxic fumes are going straight into your workspace and the frequency of them makes them much more dangerous if they should hit something they shouldn't.. like your eye

The two main negatives of a laser cutter are toxic gas and browned/burnt edges.

That explains the aluminum exhaustion pipe on the higher-end ones. Didn't realise it burns, but makes total sense, because it's laser. I was thinking about getting it for thin plywood and make something similar to that staircase, a youtube video that I can't find right now. The dude cut plywood into triangles and stacked them together, rotated ever slightly to turn it into a stair case. Pretty awesome. Imagine what else can you build with it.

  • I got very excited at the price point, then realised that I was thinking of a Glowforge, not this laserless thing 😅

  • Is this the new juicero? getting that vibe, over using a hobo projector stencil(https://youtu.be/0RTI3yW6f1Q?t=236) and some paint/knife on your material.

Wife has been interested in this for quite a while, but I'd been waiting for a sale to help justify the cost. Just ordered from Officeworks for $464.83. Thanks OP, my wife will be pleased.

    • Just did the same over the phone. Relatively painless process.

pretty sure these are supposed to be excluded from the sale so get in quick before they realise

Seeing these machines reminds me of the craft meme "Why buy it for 7$ when you can make it yourself with 92$ of craft supplies?"

    • Yeah exactly and with such a high initial capital outlay. It's good if you'll be making a bunch of items for like an event (like a wedding) or a club/sporting team but otherwise it's more economical to just pay a company to make the custom item you're looking for.

Have heat for the 30% heads up.
the machine is mediocre though, i'm better off with my now 10 year old KNK zing with the inkscape plugin

CRICUT works like a printer. I'm pretty sure they must sell these at a loss and bank on people buying CRICUTE products only.

  • Circuit or cameo? Which one is better in terms or software and cutting capabilities?

  • Annoyingly I bought one of these yesterday in Harvey Norman at $650…. I've already open and used it.

Any ideas how I can return it? 🥲

  • I always thought it was pronounced Cry-Cut. But it's supposed to be pronounced cricket (which is why they have a cricket for their logo)

  • Imagine the fun time you will have with your kids doing projects :

  • Hardley's reviews on it are mostly good.

  • Spotlight have worked out the Cricut Maker 3 was on sale and has now removed the 30% discount online. now shows up as VIP price of $645. :-(

    • Actually, upon reading the T&Cs at the bottom of the email spotlight sent me advertising the 30% off store-wide, it does not specifically exclude Cricut machines.
Those assholes have removed the discount off that product online. and all of my local stores are OOS (Gold Coast).. I am upset now as I decided I was going to go for it - from Officeworks obviously.. but I can't now because the discount has been removed online.

      • Update: The T&C's in the email sent out on Sunday 26th differ from that sent out on Tuesday 28th. Cricut machines were excluded in the first email, but not the second. I think having the 30% applied on Monday & Tuesday was a mistake on their part. But the price changed on Wednesday. (Listed as VIP price of $645) Clearly, they realised their mistake. I decided I would call and try it on, based on the Tuesday email with Cricut machines not listed as an exclusion. They said a new sale price applies today, (the VIP sale price) and "Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer" so the 30% off cannot be applied as there is a VIP special price on the item.
