Oh look at you using Google and then copy paste. Well done!

    • +2

Does the EID LED come with a snack bar?

    • -2

That's literally where the problem starts.

Believing that only your god is great and others are not true… Doesn't leave much space for others in a secular, pluralistic country.

  • +5

    Any other Westfield’s?

  • -2

don’t wanna be that guy…but it’s Westfield mount gravatt

    • +4

Yeah but no one calls it Mount Gravatt

      • +1

        Garbo

    • Yep, Garden City is Westfield Mt Gravatt Shopping Centre (also Upper Mt Gravatt). The name changed years ago but it's still known as Garden City. Even the bus stop and library still show up as Garden City in Google maps.

  • -5

    Its dodgy!!

  • +2

    La ilaha illallah

  • so just at the information centre right?

    • +9

Right, or left. You can go both ways

      • +2

        aha

      • I like how your open minded lol

        • +2

Your, You're, you can use … actually only one is correct

  • -6

I wonder if they give out free Christmas trees or Easter eggs in Muslim countries, like the Seinfeld bizarro world.

    • -7

Of course not. They’re not the picture of diversity and inclusion that is Astraya

    • +21

Jesus is a prophet in Islam and he is very much respected in our religion. Many muslim households celebrate Christmas and yes, you'd find many Christmas trees decorating shopping centres and who knows, they may give out small Christmas trees and Easter eggs. I know many people from muslim countries that have Christmas trees in their homes.

      • +2

a few years ago in bankstown some people tried to stop the council putting up a big christmas tree and the council listened until others got up in arms .., also around bankstown they don’t put up merry christmas it’s always happy holidays which is wrong

      • +3

my neighbors always say merry xmas to me and happy easter but apparently it’s actually goes against their religion to acknowledge it

        • probably just super religious.. much like if you told an orthodox ramadan kareem you'll probably get snubbed or punched in the face

        • +7

Nothing wrong with acknowledging for Muslims, in that they acknowledge its celebrated. But they can't join in on the celebrations and shouldn't even say merry xmas. Sounds extreme, but it's not intended that way. They simply do not partake in something they do not believe in.

      • +3

Muslims celebrating Christmas is not allowed, so please don't spread this information

        • -2

I don't know about you, but many of us celebrate it as Jesus's (pbuh) birthday. We don't go to church and follow the christian rituals but its his birthday ( even if we don't really know the real date) and we acknowledge it on that day. Many I know do and have trees in their homes. So please don't speak for all of us.

        • +1

There is a misunderstanding that all Christians celebrate Christmas. My strongly Christian neighbours don't - their religion forbids it.

And "Christmas" trees & some other customs are so called Pagan rituals, certainly not Christian. Same with the date of the celebrations.

    • +22

Not sure why people are butthurt about this. It's not like it's completely free. Probably a cheaply made thing to promote gift card purchase. Targetted marketing, just like when they make special chocolate for Easter etc…
Australia is a secular country and this Westfields is a private company after some business.

    • +16

I have been to dubai and lebanon during christmas time and there was Christmas decorations everywhere in shopping centres and outside in the streets. Stop getting your information from mainstream media .

    • +13

go to Dubai. Massive christmas tree everyone wishes me a happy christmas

far more accepting than redneck central over here

      • +5

Go to Malaysia, the shopping centres are decorated better for Xmas than they are here.

    • +4

Go to Malaysia, the shopping centres are decorated better for Xmas than they are here.

      • +1

i wouldn’t of thought that as it’s mainly a muslim country , or at least i thought it was

        • +2

Yes it is but still celebrating all the different holidays, similar decorations for diwali (hindu), chinese new year, etc

    • This is not given out for "free" as you have to spend $50 first.

But sure, Christmas and Easter are also celebrated in non-Christian parts of the world, too. It looks like you think you are living in a bizarro world, but the world is slightly saner than you think.

  • +42

Did I somehow leave ozbargain and land on ozracist site instead?
Thank you for posting OP. I will hopefully collect one tomorrow.

    • +12

      OzIgnorance. They can't help themselves.

If you get one, check if it's made in China. Where do I even start if it is….

        • +18

Asking if the LED lights are going to blow up is policy???????????

        • Lol.

    • +7

OzRacist got shut down years ago — even before the dawn of the woke era. Kind of a shame if you liked great deals on whitegoods

    • +3

I thought ozbargain's demographics were mostly under 35. But the comments are similar to a Herald Sun comment section of angry boomers and older gen xers yelling at clouds.

  • +2

They look pretty, I'd get one if they were in Vic :)

  • +1

    Thank you for sharing.

  • +29

Just an LED can shine light on so many bigots and Islamophobes

    • +9

Love it. You don't see Muslims coming out of the woodwork and shitting on freebies for other religious occasions.

      • -7

Why do you love it? Pleasure when others fail? Ego to be in solidarity with muslims?

      • +1

        You got it all wrong.

    • +2

Or FREE with a gift card purchase!

Seems like a good Deal to me👍
Picking one up tomorrow @Garden City!

      Certainly not Neg worthy!
      Not valid by voting guidelines!
With 8 x -votes, that invalid Neg will soon be gone!
      Neg Vote gone🎉

      • Won't you have to pay a gift card fee on top of the $50 though?

        • True. Want the gift card anyway.
Fee is still cheaper than ebay!
Local shops - going there (free) tomorrow.
So a good Deal as a local!

          • +1

@INFIDEL: Yeh fair enough, glad you are getting use out of it! Definitely worth the $2.95 fee if you were going to use the gift card anyway! :)

            • +2

@nicholasv: Mind you, as an OzBargainer I want to see one first, before I pay that fee😉
Don't want to waste my money. But I like a pretty light😊

    • -3

Yeah good point, not sure why the negs.

      • +1

To be a valid Neg vote - it must meet OzBargain Voting Guidelines.

Only 1 reason it could fit is "The deal is not the cheapest available". Need to provide proof, which wasn't given!

But this Deal is currently the cheapest available price (excluding redeemable gift card credit). So the Neg Vote was invalid!

Mods encourage members to vote down invalid Neg votes! (8negs & the Neg Vote disappears.)

Will pick this up tomorrow from this local Westfield, for cost of gift card fee. Effectively much cheaper than eBay👍

      • No ebay link provided.
Couldn't find this set "for 5 bucks delivered"

Did find this set listed at $5.39-$14.85
BUT This light set starts at $12.99!!
        $5.39 just buys a hook!
Guess Pete10001 didn't check what you get for "5 bucks delivered"!

So worthy of more negs without any proof of "5 bucks delivered"

    • +1

Link to prove your claim that these are listed on ebay "for 5 bucks delivered!"

  • +3

It will always be garden city to me.

  • +15

To give some perspective, as to why Westfield Garden City is participating in this promotion…
(as they do for major Christian celebrations, Lunar New Year, etc) *anything to bring in customers!

Mt Gravatt is the neighbouring suburb to Holland Park, with it's important & historic Mosque.

The Holland Park Mosque is the oldest Masjid on the East Coast of Australia and has consistently been opened for over 100 years. Established in 1908 by Afghan cameleers, this 114 year old site is a pioneer for all Islamic societies, and a major spiritual hub of Brisbane and its surrounding cities.

Garden City is to the North of Australia's largest Islamic school, featured in SBS current program The Swap.
    Found it fascinating viewing.
Six students from Australia's largest Islamic school swap places with six students from Catholic colleges and a secular state high school to bridge cross-cultural divides.

    Thanks OP for sharing :)

  • +13

The comments are appalling, sad nothing really changes.

    • +5

Its not that strange. In many ways Australia is amazing as to how far it has progressed

    • Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

      • +4

SBS documentary "The Swap" has interesting discussions about this from current Islamic, Christian, Atheist & gay student perspectives at Brisbane schools.

Learnt a lot, from the struggles students & parents had with this & other issues.
It's not as simple & straight forward as many would want to believe.

The students were able to discuss these matters, where most might be uncomfortable or have strong views that would stop any possible understanding.

Thought provoking points by the local Imam, when asked about what Muslims believe & think - by students who are, or who have friends who are lgbtiqa+.

The Islamic College of Brisbane CEO was brave for suggesting & pushing for the interchange of ideas between different groups of students with different beliefs. He put his job on the line, to improve students understanding of themselves & others.

In his discussion with the Imam, he said it was better not to exclude a gay Muslim from their community, but act in a caring way, supporting them. A reasonable step, but not far enough for many.

Unfortunately, strict religious beliefs have their consequences. Seems a struggle most would rather avoid or ignore. Exposing these conflicts in this program is a positive step.

Islam is not the only religion with strict rules about people who are gay! Eastern religions often have strict rules on gays too. But those religions are more trendy & less persecuted.
Laws in Australia only relatively recently were changed, stopping jailing & bashing of people based solely on their sexuality!!
So not unsurprising that it's a sensitive topic for some.

Watched the final of the 3 part doco tonight.
        Opened my mind!

How is it complicated? One group is a hate group. The other is just people being punished for being born the way they are

          • @belongsinforums: Obviously it's complicated, if your simplistic view can't handle difference.

Seems you have the makings of a Fundamentalist!

"The Swap" showed the struggle for many Muslims to adjust to a very different culture, than the Prophet had lived in so long ago.
As "good" Muslims they try to emulate the life of the Prophet. To live in that old way, where everything seemed so clear cut - like your views.

I've chatted with gay Muslims (during Mardi Gras) from Islamic countries where their sexuality is a crime. So difficult for them.

            • @INFIDEL: It's written in the book that gays should be punished. It's in plain text.

              • @belongsinforums: Didn't take you as an Islamic scholar!

Have you read the Bible??? A basis for our culture & laws.
Stoning is too good for you😉

                • -1

@INFIDEL: Yep. 13 years of Catholic education. Raised by a book that promotes hate.

                  • @belongsinforums: if you had only read the book properly

                  • @belongsinforums: You had such a liberal upbringing, compared to me!

As a child, I was told Catholics were sinful Devil worshippers. (Keep away from them!) The Pope was the anti-Christ!

                    We were Christians.
But music or anything fun was banned.
I knew no different as I mainly could not leave the house, except to approved families…

My Mother's family came from an island off the West Coast of Scotland. Swings were chained up on Sundays, so children wouldn't be tempted by the Devil!
And she was more liberal than my Father!

Fortunately I learnt Catholics were more fun & was led astray😊

We are all influenced by our upbringing.
Luckily, it drove me to be curious about others & their beliefs. Hence my desire to travel.

                • @INFIDEL: Also hadiths are very clear that God's name is above all else

                  • @belongsinforums: A few reasons to be stoned to death according to the Bible

Working on the Sabbath (Exodus 31:15)
A man was gathering sticks on the Sabbath… "And the LORD said to Moses, “The man shall be put to death; all the congregation stone him with stones outside the camp.” And all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him to death with stones, as the LORD commanded Moses." (Numbers 15:32-36 )

A son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them… !"all the men of his town are to stone him to death"* (Deuteronomy 21:18-21)

If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense. (Leviticus 20:13 )

                    And so on.
But I guess you know them by heart😉

  • +1

Just looks like more waste to go in landfill

    • +1

      This I agree with!

  • +6

Haven't seen such hatered comments, by Muslims, on posts related to other religions. Whats wrong with the people these days ?

    • +4

They drank the kool aid. Oh well, approx a quarter of the world (~2 Billion Muslims) population and fastest growing religion by far.

They will have to get used to it. Or I suppose you can just watch Fox and let us know how bad they are.

      • -2

Because the punishment for infidels in Muslim countries is death

        • +2

have any stats? There should be millions of innocent killings.

      • fastest growing religion by far… Lol

Yes , average family size four kids..

        • @dealman Is everyone else cloning or something?

Why does how the growth happens matter to my point above?

          • @butter: You seemed to suggest the growth as a matter of superiority in some way as though it's by choice that this is growing..so just had to clarify.

    • +9

Honestly what's wrong with most racists is simply a lack of exposure to other cultures and people groups, and a severe lack of education in most cases, but not all. You'd be hard pressed to find someone with a PHD voting for OneNation or being racist towards Muslims.
