Aldi 18V Li-Ion 5 Piece Power Tool Set $199

71

I tried out the Aldi tools that they had on sale the other week and quite frankly they were crap (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/75055). I managed to return them though. Given that Aldi is very hit an miss and I don't use power tools that much, but like to have a cheap set around I thought I'd give their Lithium Ion ones a go. Much better set than the Ni-Cd ones. More torque and power, better battery life and recharge time, and there a few nice features on them i.e. level plane on the drill and laser guide and physical guide on the circular saw.

They are still a cheap set, but could do a good job as a cheap garage kit, which is what i have it for.

  • looks interesting for the price, if it had a dremel tool included. would be ideal for me

  • show me the monnaaaaaayy!

$199, not bad, but could spend 3 or 4 times and get 10 or 20 times the quality/use/durability/features.

I was watching a program on tv last night, called Sunday, an NZ current affairs show, and it was about the counterfeit good coming from China, and the chainsaws actually had no protection or auto shutoff if they kickback as the genuine ones do, the safety chainbrake I think they called it. So just be careful anyone here who is after bargains on stuff like that. It would basically split your skull and not stop, which is pretty insane for a few hundred $$'s.

    • There is no chainsaw in this pack, the the circular saw has a guard on it

  • look ok for around the house, obviously wouldnt want to be trusting only these when doing any serious work.

  • So cheap for five pieces!lol

your point is ….WHAT?? bargain? cheap? bad quality? there is a forum for you.

And your point for the neg and rant? WHAT? not a bargain? cheap? bad quality?

By all means have a rant, but at least make sense in the first place.

  • My point is it's not a bad deal for tools around the house at $200, especially with Aldi's return policy. This way you can give them a try and if they aren't up to scratch then return them.

I posted it more to make people aware of the deal, Aldi has a habit of selling out of the good deals before people find out about them.

  • Got to be worth a try at that price for anyone looking for lightish duty home handyman stuff.
I don't know why anyone would neg this. Chances are they know bugger all about power tools anyhoos.

  • Bunnings has a Skil set similar to this and about $149 from memory

    • is it on their website? kinda hard to find

  • This has 3 years warranty opposed to other brands. Its a great buy.
I brought this set on Saturday morning; 30 mins after the store opening. first shop was sold out and the other shop only had 2 left after a pallet worth. WOW

  • This is very cheap but the quality and reliability of these tools comes into question. yes there is a 3 year warranty but if they don't have the torque to do the job then the warranty doesn't mean much. Given they are all cordless I can't see them being much chop. I cannot confirm but is the warranty on the battery only 12months?

They seem good for around the house use but do you really need a circular saw for around the house? these are dangerous and without something to secure what you are cutting I can see alot of disappointing cuts being made.

My first drill and jigsaw were the cheapo bunnings ozito products. The safety switch on the jigsaw isn't required to be touch in order for the thing to work and the drill couldn't drill anything other than the softest of materials.

Cheap for 5 products but if you can afford a little more buy something better.
