  • Anything special for Japan?
I am flying there for 2 weeks in July.

Stay tuned for our next sale :)

      • Eagerly awaiting ! Requiring 3x SEA 6 country 30 day bad boy esims

  • +5

Or for $3 pick up the same product at the same store without 'pre-ordering and saving'. Because that's all they cost.

    • The airport prices are actually more expensive than the city store (you can prove us wrong) - if you have time to go to the city store it will be cheaper yes but it's not $3 for a tourist SIM for sure (as your phone will need to be unblocked).

Especially with the registration requirement for local SIM the airport pick up option is the easiest and most convenient way to get a local number :)

      -Anton

      • Not $3 but they are $15 direct from Telkomsel if you pre-order and pick up on arrival at the airport. This is for the same inclusions as what is being sold in this deal for $26.25.

    • You can buy $2-$3 sim card IF your phone bought in Indonesia (IMEI is unblocked), if not, they (XL, Tsel, etc) will ask your passport etc and definitely they will not sell $3 sim card.

      • This is spot on!

        -Anton

      • -2

IMEI registration is free at jakarta airport. my sister just gone back few days ago, easy and quick, you can register IMEI online prior you arrival.
on your arrival, you just show the QR code, resulted from your online application.

        • +1

Only free if your phone is worth less than US$500, otherwise the imei unlock costs about 40% of the value of the phone above US$500. For Indonesians with a tax file number, it’s about 30%.

An iPhone 13 Pro Max is going to cost in the order of Rp1.500.000 to unlock in Indonesia for the average tourist.

          • +1

            @sitdowndisco: It's free for short-stay tourists.

          • @sitdowndisco: This is not true. It's free for trips 90 days or less, and can be extended for another 90 days afterwards.

    • It is not $3, it is 250k for a 20GB plan for 30 days. Easier to do this and get it sorted at the airport

      • Yes this is spot on - we are very transparent

We can guarantee we are offering a deal compared to the airport prices.

If you are willing to go to the city it's much cheaper (but again with waiting time, registration, finding the official store).

NOTE: We know first hand as we frequently go to Indonesia (Jakarta AND Bali)

        -Anton

  • Looking at post history they usually do 25% off all sims (all countries) on their store every month. This month is Indonesia only. Wouldn’t really call it a deal, rather it’s just a “new” product they’re selling

    • +1

We do run monthly sales mostly to introduce new products this month it is the local Indonesian SIM.

These are 25% off normal price :)

      -Anton

  • OP, do u have to register your phone IMEI before you can use the phone? I heard they are pretty strict about that.

    • Yes our Indonesian local partner will unblock your IMEI with the passport details.

All the instruction will be provided after your order.

      -Anton

      • What happend if you have indonesian passport?

        • This SIM can only be purchased with non-indonesian passport.

          -Anton

  • -1

Is Indonesia a developed or developing country, why the SIM cards are so expensive compared to here?

    • +1

sim card is expensive if you buy from the link posted here, but it is definitely cheaper when you buy it locally
just like, you are australian buying simcard locally in australia

      compare to

you are buying australian SIM cards at your country prior you travelled here in australia

    • Yes, it is still a developing country. But what's being sold here is the equivalent of Telstra and Optus, they have great coverage pretty much everywhere in Indonesia… A country that spans thousands of islands with urbanisation rate of only 56%.. Compare that to 86% in Australia..

If you want cheap internet, you can go to Singapore (pretty much 100% Urbanisation rate).. 100Gb for only $15.

  • +1

Looking forward to any promotion for European SIM!

  • +2

i am indonesian, and i think the price offered here is expensive !

you can buy the sim card easily anywhere in indonesia, doesnt need to be at airport.
prepaid sim card is SUPER easy to find. You can find it at any mall, or some shopping streets.

the one who sell it also happy to register it for you for free. even if you are tourist, if they charge you a service fee to help you register it, it will still end up cheaper than the price offer here.

    • This. It's honestly worth using roaming for a day if you have access to a pack, and then buy it once you're in the city. No need to register your passport against your Sim card.

      @langitbiru, km asli mana?

      • +1

        medan / jakarta

    • +2

Please note the regulation has become very strict you can no longer just buy SIM card from "anywhere" it has to be ones that have the facility to register foreigner.

As we said multiple times this is airport prices if you have time to go to the city yes it is for sure cheaper.

      -Anton

      • IMEI lock is free and doesn't take long. You can then use any sim card in Indonesia. Regulation doesn't require you to match your sim card against your passport, just the IMEI against the passport. I was there in January, registered my IMEI and bought a local SIM from the same guy I go to always in PIK. Worked fine for two weeks. I think what you're saying isn't quite right.

    • +2

This is a special type of SIM card that can bypass IMEI lock, you can go to any telco stall and they will happily help you with LOCAL SIM Card, that can only work with phones that have registered IMEI. To get the tourist SIM card you need to provide your passport number, and screenshot of your IMEI to them

Even Telkomsel on their official websites only list pick up points in Bali and Mandalika for this special Tourist prepaid card.
I doubt it that a random Telkomsel/XL stall keeper will understand, let alone know that such SIM card exists.

More info (in English) about our idiotic gov't policy

      • Yes thank you there is ALOT of misunderstanding everywhere.

Not all SIM card "stall" can register foreigner IMEI now (used to be OK back in 2020 / 2021)

        -Anton

        • I wish you have an option for Manado pick up (flying SG > MDC)… Everyone seems to forget about us… We've been touted as the 2nd Bali since time immemorial

          • @Marx: We work with a local agent unfortunately their main focus is Bali and Jakarta at the moment!

            -Anton

      • +1

According to your own link, it's valid for 90 days if you register the IMEI. It's really not that difficult, took 2 mins in Jakarta.

Registration of IMEI phone for a short stay
In case your stay in Indonesia is less than 90 days, you can register your phone FOR FREE at any official office of a mobile operator. To register, you just need to come to the office in person with your passport and the phone. The tax in that case does not need to be paid.

A “tourist” registration is valid for 3 months and at the moment is permitted to be extended without any additional fees for another 3 months at the same office where you had initially registered your phone.

There are a lot of mobile phone shops that would register phones for free when you purchase a SIM card or an Internet package from them.

        • @b2dz it is correct if you are a foreigner you can get an imei unblock for free at custom. After that you will have to purchase sim card at the airport at the full price and they include the imei unlock.

What we sell here is the airport sim card plus imei already unlocked when you arrived with 25 percent off.

Unless you are willing to go out of the airport with no internet.

          • +1

@michael9000: What do you mean "After that you will have to purchase sim card at the airport at the full price and they include the imei unlock."??

It's already unblocked at customs. From that point, any sim card can be used. Why are you saying an additional unblock is required?

    • +1

you are very likely an Indonesian who hasn’t been back to Indonesia since 2020.

As others have commented above the regulation has become very strict.
I went back in December 2022 and learnt it the hard way i.e. local SIM card can’t be used on my phone bought from Australia.
Feel free to give it a go though.

      • Couldn't agree more :)

        -Anton

      • +1

OP seems to be overblowing the complexity to make it appear you need to pay $500 or use a third party "agent".

You can unblock your phone for free without using an agent, by doing it at the airport.

        • +1

Hey there, we never said unblocking IMEI is not free.

This post is about getting a local SIM card from $14.25 at the airport.

The airport prices is at least 200k onwards you can check it out yourself this is BOTH at Jakarta and Bali.

We are just providing convinience with pre-registration and seamless pick up instead of waiting.

I emphasis again we are very transparent if you want to buy in the city it is cheaper and yes they can unblock the IMEI as well (but note you will need find a store that can do it).

          -Anton

          • +1

@TravelKon: You literally said this in the post below.

You will need to either register at custom (free if under $500USD) or get it "unlocked" via local agent such as the one we work with for 3 months.

Even if the value is over $500 USD, it's free for 3 months. Using an agent doesn't magically do something that doing it direct at customs doesn't.

The $500 only applies for long stays.

That post and others that you have posted are inaccurate.

            • @b2dz: That comment was replying to thomalfa who is asking about IMEI registration which we assume to be whitelisting IMEI permanently which can only be done at custom. If the phone value is over $500USD you would need to pay the duty.

We then said the other option is getting the IMEI unlocked for 3 months via a local agent/operator, we should clarify our local agent is from XL Axiata and Telkomsel as far we know only official “agent/operator” can do the registration.

Custom = permanent unblock (only free if under $500USD), Agent/Operator = 3 months unblock

We want to emphasis again we are selling the local SIM card and we never said there is no free option for unlocking (again this is irrelevant as we are selling SIM Card).

              -Anton

              • @TravelKon: You're mistaken. Customs is not for just permanent registration. You can unlock for short stays (90 days) for free. Then buy a any local sim card in the city.

See my below comment. I did this in January. Didn't pay $500, used my phone fine for two weeks. Again, you're mistaken.

                • @b2dz: We are under the impression that custom can only do permanent whitelist - we do not know if they can do IMEI registration for stay less than 90 days.

We have been told that you need to do in via local agent or operator if you just want the 3 months unblock.

This is also confirmed via the bea cukai official information: https://bcngurahrai.beacukai.go.id/registrasiimeipassenger/

You kept saying we advised paying $500USD, please re-read our comment, we said if the value of your phone is under $500USD it is free, if it is over you need to pay the duty (unsure of the amount) - this only applies if you want to unblock permanently.

                  -Anton

  • What's the difference in price buying from airport directly or through Travelkon the same plan?

    • +1

If you buy at the airport directly you need to pay in Indonesian Rupiah, waiting time for activation and no discount :).

      -Anton

  • +1

When I’m travelling on vacation, if I can walk out of the airport and have data for a week for under $20 hassle free I’m onboard … thanks OP

  • I travelled last year and I believe my imei is already registered. Can I get 3 dollars sim then?

    • +1

No IMEI unlock only last for 3 months. "Official" Telkomsel only allows you to unblock the same phone twice but our agent can do it as they have access to both XL and Telkomsel system.

      -Anton

  • I thought this IMEI registration shit only applies to iPhone user and not reflect to Chinese brands cheap phones.

    • If your phone is under 500USD you can "register" at the custom but we heard there is lengthy wait time.

      -Anton

      • +1

Why at custom? I thought can be done online.

Unless the old motto still applies. If things can make it harder why it has to simplify it.

        • Phones that have NOT used local SIM cards and phone models from 2020/2021 (can't remember the exact date) will not be able to use local Indonesian SIM cards.

You will need to either register at custom (free if under $500USD) or get it "unlocked" via local agent such as the one we work with for 3 months.

Source: Tons of research and personal experience :)

          -Anton

          • @TravelKon: I went to Indonesia back in 2019 and brought my phone (samsung s8+ from 2017) and used a Telkomsel SIM card there.
Does that mean I can still use my phone if i purchase another Telkomsel SIM card there?

          • @TravelKon: I haven't negged this post yet because I get the value of a prepaid SIM at the airport. I do. But you're now moving beyond reasonable and appear to be purposefully misleading.

            https://balibusinessconsulting.com/how-to-register-imei-phon…

You do NOT need to pay $500 or get it unlocked via a local agent. These are NOT the only two options. You can also unlock it for free at the airport with customs.

You ONLY need to pay $500 if you want to stay in Indonesia for 90 days or more.

The wait time for the IMEI register takes 2 mins. I did the QR code at the airport, went to a room where they did the unlock, and it was done in 2 mins.

This way my passport information is with the government directly. Not a third party agent. And I can then buy a better value Sim card once I leave the airport.

            • @b2dz: See my reply to your comment above, we seem to be talking two different things, I was replying to a comment about registering IMEI at custom which will permanently unblock the IMEI, if you are happy with the 90 days unblock you can do it via a local agent / operator.

Your link also said the same thing - you need to register at a “mobile operator” if your stay is less than 90 days. This include our local partner at the airport. If you choose to do it elsewhere in the city yes it’s free which we also said plenty of time its cheaper to go to the city (emphasis again we offer unlock upon arrivals without needing to do the registration in person)

Custom is only for those who want to whitelist their phone permanently. The $500USD is the value of the phone not the duty, anything under is free at custom anything over is dutiable.

Waiting time in the queue at custom can get busy depending on your arrival time.

Not sure how we misled anyone, can I emphasis again we are selling SIM cards (with imei unblock as part of the process)

              -Anton

              • @TravelKon: Doing this at customs is NOT only for registering IMEIs permanently.

You can do it for short stays. It's free, takes two minutes and is available for the unblocking of an IMEI for stays less than 90 days.

I have a Samsung S22 ultra, was there in January, and did the above. Certainly no payment of $500, and I used an Indonesian sim card I bought in the city shortly afterwards.

You're saying that customs is for a permanent unlock only. It's not.

Your messaging in this thread is inconsistent.

                • @b2dz: We can only state official information, please see: https://bcngurahrai.beacukai.go.id/registrasiimeipassenger/

                  Quote:

FOR LONG STAY (MORE THAN 90 DAYS)
For every passenger who wants to register IMEI permanently, they can register at the Customs Area of the International Arrival Terminal at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport or the nearest Customs Office

FOR SHORT STAY (LESS THAN 90 DAYS)
For foreign tourists who will stay in Indonesia for no more than 90 days, they can come directly to the cellular operator/provider booth to get an access period to use the Indonesian cellular network which is only valid for 90 days.

                  Notes :

                  – This is only a temporary registration, after 90 days your local mobile network will be unusable

                  – You cannot register permanent IMEI at the Customs Office if it has been more than 60 days from the date of arrival.

                  End of quote

We are providing official information, we are not able to confirm if custom can do the 90 days for free - this will be going against the official “rule” so we do not believe we have misled anyone.

                  -Anton

          • @TravelKon: We’ll see the moment of truth then if the shit indo government true to its policy.

I got iPhone 12 pro max at mid 2020.

Technically it was before they adopted the imei registration shit

            • @thomalfa: Hello I frequently go to Indonesia and happen to have iPhone 12 Pro Max and can confirm it does not work unless you pay duty at custom (as the phone would be over $500USD) alternatively you can get it “unblock” for 3 months via an agent or operator.

Never understood why one would buy simm cards in Australia for another country. You would always get a better deal upon arrival with minimal fuss.

This price is extremely expensive for Indo simms.

  • Just an FYI, Klook Bali deals can have your Sim delivered to your hotel, for $10! (Price includes the Sim package)
Can pre-register passport details or do it upon delivery 🚚

  • Do you have any good deal for Hong Kong?
    thank you

  • Hi Op,

Just saw this company and the reviews look great. I am heading to the Balkans in a few weeks do you think there will be any deals soon? Specifically for the below?

They are open until according to the DPS Airport operation hours - which will cover all flights.

      • Thanks, that's great. And is it ok to buy now for pickup at the end of May?

        • Yep that's fine :)

Recently visited Bali and as a 73 year old found the exercise onerous. Didn't use my mobile and based on the above, thank goodness. What a confusing load of rubbish. Total overkill.
Bloody eVOA, E customs declaration, Jetstar delays, 70 minute wait for luggage, inflated prices (21% charges on advertised prices), Bali belly etc etc.
Everything made difficult for the sake of it.
Travelled 7 times to Bali over the years but the gloss is fading as per many recent blogs.
    Shame.
