Trade in page

Trade in Terms & Conditions

•Samsung Galaxy S23+ 5G 256 or 512GB eligible for $450 Bonus Coupon with Trade in

• Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 5G 256GB, 512 GB, 1 TB eligible for $500 Bonus Coupon with Trade in

JB are currently having a $200 discount on all S23 models, so it should stack nicely with the trade in promo Credit to @BargainsGrabber

Plus if you make the effort you can save an additional 10% off via gift cards (returned via loyalty points) from Coles or Woolworths this week ;) Again full Credit to @BargainsGrabber

One more credit to @mandelbrot Fyi for those that did the trade in with the flip 4 deal last week, you can use the bonus coupons from there without having to do another trade in

According to previous post people reported that if you cancel the trade in with Squaretrade (the trade in provider). They don't charge you for the bonus trade in coupon. So essentially you are charged only for the trade in value (if you don't send the trade in phone) and still keep the bonus $400 ~$500 bonus coupon. I haven't tried it. And this is according to the comments of previous post.

      I am still editing post.

      • +4

Also another FYI, JB are currently having a $200 discount on all S23 models, so it should stack nicely with the trade in promo

        • +3

Thanks for that. I will mention that in the description. Still early for me. Just woke up not long ago.

  • +4

Hooo boy, buckle up. Here we go again….

  • Wouldn't Samsung has a better offer with 500$ trade in bonus plus $200 voucher?

    • They’re the same promo. It comes down to which trade in provider values your old phone more

      Save $200 off
      $500 bonus trade-in

For a limited time, when you trade-in your existing eligible device, you will receive an additional bonus credit $400 off that you can use towards the purchase of a Galaxy S23 or an additional bonus credit $450 off that you can use towards the purchase of a Galaxy S23+

For a limited time, when you trade-in your existing eligible device, you will receive an additional bonus credit $500 off that you can use towards the purchase of a Galaxy S23 Ultra.

    • Where is that deal? I haven't seen it.

Add the $250 bonus on accessories that's over $1k of value.

        • +2

That was only for the Samsung S23 Ultra. Also as Bargaingrabbers mentioned JB HI-FI currently have $200 discount on all models. Which will stack nicely. Someone woke up on the wrong side on the bed I think.

        • +1

Except the 23 Ultra was full price there. It isn't here. Plus you can walk in the store and get your phone straight away.

          • -3

@Cryptik: Samsung also running $200 off.

This just isn't a good deal as last month was $800 trade up bonus + $250 accessories credit whereas this is essentially $700. (Of course I am talking about Ultra)

Considering the phone is another month older it's a horrible deal which us Ozbarginer shouldn't support.

            • @mg_k: The replies in that thread very much show the 256GB Ultra at $1949 so it was $800 off $1949 and there were less elegible phones as well. Mines cracked to shit and Samsung wont accept the trade, JB Hifi will. AND Some people still havent received their phones from Samsung lmao. Full price accessories don't mean much either. I'd actually rather have my phone from somewhere A) I will actually get it from(before everyone in that deal) and B) Someone that actually has proper support so I can warranty it if needed.

              • +6

                @Cryptik: $1949 - 800 = $1149 + $250 credit

                vs

                $1749 - 500 = $1249 without any bonus credit.

Is it really that hard to comprehend?

Deal should get better as the phone gets older. Where's the Ozbarginer's mentality lol

    • That was a good deal. I ordered one still haven't received the phone and the tab though.

  • +5

Calling this deal horrible is pretty harsh. It is the best deal available now

    • +14

Yeah I agree, not having to deal with Samsung is a huge bonus IMO.

      • +8

Plus if you make the effort you can save an additional 10% off via gift cards (returned via loyalty points) from Coles or Woolworths this week ;)

        • +1

Also claim depreciation on the phone, so works out that phone upgrade is free

        • +3

@BargainsGrabber how do I do this? I have flybys but in a bit confused as to how to save an extra 10%. Sorry I'm a newbie to flybys.

          • @felto82: Every 2000 Flybuys earn you $10 in your shopping. Some say it’s not an equivalent 10% off but it’s close enough :)

        • How do I get 10% saving off Gift Cards. Is that offer expired

  • +6

Need a price drop as well to combine with this trade-in promo

  • Recent deal was best with at least 40% off RRP before trade in + bonus.

    • +2

Sure. I had to dig mine out to find it lol.

      It's 0118 999 881 99 9119 725 3

      • -2

        Not working dude

      • Good morning, that's a nice Tnetennba

  • So can anyone confirm that if the device has 0 trade in value (Galaxy S9) it's not eligible for the bonus coupon either?

    • +1

S10 got zero trade in value. So S9 would be the same

    • +2

A minimum of $10 value in order to get the bonus coupon

  • Why are the ultras always on sale? Are they bad phones or not selling well?

    • +14

Not selling well due to phones:

      • having no significant upgrades for years and in fact becoming much worse over time with many features dropped
      • increasing in price way above wage increases (or lack thereof).

      People have had enough.

      • +3

        Thanks for the insight info.
Yet according to an article the s23 sales have been three times more than the s22 around the same time.

        • Globally or in Australia?

I get the sense that the deals we get depend a lot on how well the phone does overseas

    • +2

Samsung's strategy is just to inflate the price to iPhone levels and run 40% discount combos every other week.

Makes people feel they are getting bargains and that the phone is equal to iPhone, when really it's just an annoying runaround to get what should be normal price.

      • You got every bit right except that the phone is equal to iPhone, it is actually superior than iPhone.

  • It sounds good but it all comes down to how much is the value of the phone you are trading in and also the fact you don't get say 50% or 100% Samsung Care off and/or $250 Samsung accessory voucher.

It is probably the best deal at the moment.

  • +6

my perfect condition s22 is worth $400, that allows me to buy s23 at $346. Given the similarity between the two devices, i am not sure it's worth the upgrade.

    • +1

My s22U 256GB is worth $650. Will cost like $600more to upgrade. Not worth I think

    • +1

No idea how much my not very old pristine condition S22+ is worth, but if the S23 has a better battery, it's definitely worth the upgrade….

    • +5

23 has much better battery life.

  • can anyone check in store on the good guys matching this deal?

  • Can I trade in my old Galaxy S6?

    • +4

      https://jbhifi.squaretradeup.com.au/product/galaxy-s6-2

S6 = No trade in Value so you can't trade it in. It needs to have at least $1 in value to be eligible for the discount voucher.

      • +1

It says closed after 11.30pm? How can a website be closed, lol.

    • +2

My S10 4G has ZERO value..

      • +1

I bet the phone still works well though (aside from slow charging). For me I'll be hanging onto my S10 until it dies. I don't feel like phones have changed enough to justify spending >$600 on a new phone

    • +1

      nope : ) i can't trade in my S8+

      • +3

There was a way to hack it so it would let you trade in a $0 phone last time. I traded an S9+, didnt give them my phone, still got the $500 trade in bonus and never got charged for not giving them my phone. If you read through the comments of the last deal you'll find out how

        • I remember this last year I think it was, also did it with my iPhone 6s. So it's still working as of recently?

        • I tried the trick again and could still click the continue button and enter IMEI, but I get 'Sorry, zero amount order is not allowed' pop up after. As per comments in the S22 deal last year when this was discovered, they patched it within a day or two.

  • -3

Better deal than last week imo. Last week was focused on the Flip 4 which is an inferior phone whereas this week the Galaxy S23 series is also discounted so the deals can stack. The S23 is superior to the Flip 4 in basically every way, camera on the Flip 4 is awful for what was an originally $1500 phone. The caveat to the Galaxy S23 camera is that photos of moving people/objects are not great compared to the Pixel 7 Pro.

In fact it doesn't surprise me that Jb Hi-Fi did the Flip 4 sale first to offload that inferior stock before giving the same deal for the flagship S23.

    • Flip4 was $600 off RRP. Here S23 is only $200 off.

Having been using flip4 for a week now i can say that it is a good phone with good battery life even but I agree that S23 is better in many ways and now I am looking to flip my new flip4 to s23 plus or ultra.

      • How do you like the foldability? Is it weird?

        • It felt weird for couple of days but now I kind of like it. When I check notifications or skip songs I can use the small display and don't need to open the phone. This saves battery and I normally end the day with 30%+ battery.

I was a bit worried about the durability but it feels solid and the $13.99 case I got from Amazon protects it well (no gap for the coins etc going in the gap. The screen is the most fragile I'm sure but I believe the way I use phones it should be ok. I wouldn't buy foldable phone as 2nd hand though.

Only thing i've noticed is that the bluetooth is not the strongest, sometimes when I fiddle my phone in my pocket while listening music the connection between earphones and the phone struggle.

      • +3

Probably going to get downvoted by people that jumped on the Flip 4 deal due to the enticing price, but if something is discounted that heavily you have to wonder why. I spent a good amount of time looking at the Flip 4 and due to the longevity and limitations of the phone it simply didn't stack up in my opinion. I think a $600 discount is comparable to the $200 discount when the former is only going to last 2 years, and is also 4 years behind in its camera quality.

        • +5

I didn't neg you but IMO the $1600+ price for a Flip4 is way too much. TBH 1k+ for any phone is way too much :D Unless it has ChatGPT intergrated and does the work in the office in my behalf.

Flip4 only has the gimmicky going for it so you have that fancy feeling. A phone should be rock solid and survive drops and mild abuse.

But if you are relatively careful with Flip4 I believe it will survive easily 2-3 years. Just don't take it to beach and check your pockets for dust and sand as they will eventually cause issues.

        • +4

I agree, think the actual flip functionality makes no sense other than novelty and actually in my use case makes it less convenient in the pocket. Screen will be way less durable etc.

BUT… I got flagship phone for $200… It was the kind of deal that's a no-brainer unless you already had a very recent phone.

          • @Castcore: I think the flip 4 is fine for casual users. If you're doing basic soc media and, messaging, calls, minor media consumption, it's fine and at least you get the novelty of not being a slab. Also the flip is pocket able.

If you use your phone for more, there's the s series all the way to ultra

    • Can’t believe the s23 still hasn’t nailed photos of moving objects. Pretty hard to accept on a flagship noted for its camera. Surely it isn’t that bad?

    • +5

The S23 is not superior when it comes to foldability. It just snaps instead of folding in half like the Fold does

      • Snap23.

It even has a Snapdragon processor. It's all coming together. Like the two halves of a fold.

  • Can i stack with perks voucher?

  • +16

Don't forget the hidden cost: having to send a photo of drivers license and selfie which will both no doubt be leaked online shortly thereafter

    • +1

      …Priceless

    • +3

Yeah I was in until I saw this… they should just be able to verify your identity in store. Passing pictures with licenses should be made illegal.

      • CarNextDoor did this:
take a photo holding a driving licence

Some local crypto exchanges did this too.

    • +2

Absolutely awful process, should be criminal. Only way to try and mitigate the risk is to hold a piece of paper with the name of the company + date/time and hold it in front of the license if they allow it.

    • +6

If you've some basic web-dev knowledge, I managed to skip all this last time just by opening the inspector and removing the hidden class off of the checkout button. Picked up from my local store the next day, no questions asked.

      • +1

        plz share

      • How long ago was that? No chance the trade in company can't deny the trade in based on insufficient id when they realise none is attached?

        • Of course they can, but they didn't (luckily)

      • Please share mate! You would be a hero

        • +8

If I go through with this deal (unlikely), I'll have the opportunity to inspect and share my findings but I couldn't offer clear intructions from memory, since this was around when the S22 was released.

At a high level, right-click on the page with the ID check and select Inspect; selects the Elements tab in the panel that opens; find the elements below the ID check elements with a "class" attribute of "hidden" (or similiar), a "display" property of "none", or "visibility" property and untick them until the checkout options appear. From memory, there wasn't much more to it than that.

Piss-poor form validation for the win!

          • +6

            @chrisandrew:

Piss-poor form validation for the win!

Indeed. Likely a hint of how bullet proof the protection is that they would apply to the id document uploads as well.

Thanks for sharing those instructions with everyone!

            • +1

@Bluto Mindpretzel: Yeah it's pretty worrying

            • @Bluto Mindpretzel: The page that does the Trade-in actually redirects to another company called ID KIT Pty Ltd which the ID verification takes place within their internal software.
              https://www.ocrlabs.com/

This is the same company that apparently does ID verification for Westpac, ANZ, Macquarie etc. It also lets you conceal the ID slightly and put a time/date in front of it too. So as hesitant as I was to use it, I was ok with this process.

            • @Cryptik: I think the method he is referring to allows you to expand the Customer, Credit Card parts of the form and proceed without needing to do the ID verification on your phone.

              • +2

                @rekke: That's correct.

At the time, the elements were on the page, just hidden (until the user completes the ID check). I only discovered this because the ID check process was actually broken and prevented me from proceeding; and I didn't want to miss out on the deal.

Might have also set a data attribute to 'true' or something. Can't quite recall, sorry I can't be more helpful without the page in front of me.

              • +1

@rekke: Haha just tried but they did not allow me to continue without verification at the last step.

    • +4

For anyone wondering on the security of this, I just completed this ID verification. It allowed me to put a piece of paper to slightly conceal my license and have the business name, time and date in front of my license. The reason I did this, is if the images are stored somewhere then by concealing the license, if it were to be compromised, a hacker would have difficulties being able to use this ID photo given it has a time/date in front of it.

It also seems to be using 'IDKit Pty Ltd' on the backend which seems to be the company behind the ID verification for ANZ, Westpac, Mortgage Choice, Macquarie, HSBC. For this reason I deemed it safe enough to proceed, although we can't be 100% if its solely conducted with IDKit Pty Ltd but it seemed that it was.

If it didn't let me put the time/date and conceal the card slightly it would be debatable but the company itself seems like it is reasonable trustworthy, although these companies are the highest target of cyber attacks.

      https://www.ocrlabs.com/

      Hope that helps.

  • So I can get a base S23 128gb model for $749 with the $400 discount?

      • Need to send in the phone though, right? Or what's the penalty for not sending it?

        • If you email them and say you're not sending the phone in, there's no penalty. They just charge you the value of the phone trade in

          • @mandelbrot: If you think you can sell your phone for more privately you could pay the trade cost back, keep the $400 credit and then whatever you make on top of that as a private sale just makes it an even better deal.

        • Be careful,

When I bought the flip4 last week, I didn't use the Trade-In voucher ($100), only used the discount voucher ($500)

Then when I sent them an email to cancel the trade in, they're telling me that they'll still charge me the trade in value ($100) even though I never used that voucher to further reduce the price…

          • @sirs2k: How else is that company going to be make money from trade ins, if they just give out coupon? Looks like they want to resell for more than $100 to make a profit .

        • Have anyone been ask to pay the bonus back if the trade in phone is not sent back? I know they will deduct the trade in value on your credit card if you don't send your old phone.

  • My Oppo X5 IMEI is blocked for SIM1. No issues for SIM2, any ideas on this? I'm thinking I'll just enter SIM2 and go from there.

    • +1

IMEI1 might have been used for a trade in already. Just use IMEI2

      • It's a one phone with two sims/two IMEIs, so having already been traded in isn't possible.

  • Does JB hifi allow split payments? I have a few $250 visa gift cards to use

    • Not sure if that's possible online, but yes you can in store

      • Sorry but how do I pay instore? Do I get printed a voucher and go instore and buy?
