ZTE V9A - Light Tab 2 - 3G Wi-Fi - $241 Delivered!

51

This tablet offers a snappy spec sheet with 3G inbuilt, seems like a good price for a well built tablet !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Zd60qpJuUs

£139.00+£24.00 = £163.00($241~)
You can choose 3 types of shipping Standard International(£24), DHL(£29) and FedEx(£31).

The discussions below:

  1. Nexus 7 is around $78~ off the mark, and hands down worth the difference.
  2. The apps I use run even on an old 1Ghz Android phone PERFECTLY ! what Tegra3, Quad core ???
  3. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is probably the only thing you should buy right now, it costs a bit more, but well worth the extra for the screen, brand and specs.
  4. A built in 3G modem means saving time, cost and unnecessary hassle, ESPECIALLY WHILE travelling. ;)

All in all I have decided this is an OK deal, and am leaning towards if not about to fall for the Samsung Galaxy tab 7.7….., hmmmm AMOLED, but I am open to more links and tablets with a brand that can offer 3G for under $250, please post deals if you know of any ! :)

  • Better than nexus 7 if I don't need the 3g?

    • +1

No, I suppose. With 3g, this one can make phone calls. Should wait for the price goes down to $99 as the first version

      • +1

the Nexus 7 is a benchmark tablet at the moment as nothing yet utilizes all 4 cores except benchmark apps itself, the only benefit of this tablet is a quick light 3G tablet.

      • +1

Unlikely to get to $99 this time unless one of the telcos take it on as a prepaid. Telstra might I suppose given that they haven't taken on any of the current 3G Huawei 7 inchers, but Optus (bizarrely) committed to the Dell Streak and probably still has shitloads of them.

    • -1

I bought a Chinatab for ~$200 delivered that comfortably beats this; even that was a bit pricey, and there are dozens more like it on the market. The only difficulty is finding a reputable seller.

      • +1

where i want one too… ? anything that beats it would be a great deal, pls post a link Thx ! :)

        • Sorry, I just realised that this tab has 3G; mine doesn't. Also, the Bluetooth doesn't work on mine because there are still no drivers for it. So, perhaps not so good? ^_^;

If you're still interested, it's a SmartQ Q8, I bought it from here (an official reseller, but seems to be another shopfront for HotMID):
          http://buy.smartqme.com/smartq-q8.html

Reflashed with customised firmware from here:
          http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/33348-010812smartq-q8-custom…
(I'm using firmware v4.0.4, just noticed that firmware v4.0.5 is out)

    • -1

Nexus is pretty much the top 7" tablet on the market atm. Made by Asus, Jelly bean + project butter. Don't waste your money on this.

  • +1

    Errr…

    • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
    • Single core Qualcomm MSM8255 (Snapdragon S2)
    • Adreno 205
    • Only 512MB RAM

Only a bit better than the original Optus MyTab.

    • +3

Optus MyTab has a horrible screen resolution 480 x 800 pixels with resistive touch, a Qualcomm MSM 7227 and 512 MB ROM, Wifi b/g

      The ZTE has a capacitive 1024x600px screen, a Qualcomm MSM8255 @ 1.4Ghz and 4GB ROM, wifi b/g/n

you do know HTC Sensation XL, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S,HTC Desire HD and many more use the Adreno 205…?

      • +1

..He's not saying the MyTab was good, it was only great value..a very long time ago.

I'm sorry, but this can't really compete with the Nexus / Galaxy 7.7 or even generic Chinese tablets which at least have 4.0

        • -1

prove it, cmon why is negging so easy but proving me wrong soo hard for OZBs ?? provide a link pls i want to buy one too, if its better and cheaper… lol

        • +1

For the extra $25 I paid the other day, the GT7.7 wees all over this ZTE POS.

        • yes but what can you do that this can't ? infact 3G is a BIG plus for me…

        • @jetair
I can watch native HD video for a start. And web browsing is so much better having at least one axis that is higher res the ancient XGA standard. XGA might have been ok for browsing 10 years ago but not now.

Then I can multi-task quickly with the 1GB of RAM. And on ICS the GT7.7 is smooth as silk. The battery lasts for ages too.

And it is amazingly well built. I've owned a gnote all year and thought it was ok, but as soon as you hold a GT7.7 its in a whole other league.

And don't get me started on the glorious samoled screen.

        • AMOLED hmmmm drool lol

      • +1

You do realise that the Optus MyTab IS a ZTE V9 with 3G??? Which most of us bought for $99 delivered incl $10 Optus credit. Hence the comparison with this $240 V2. Does the minimal specs increase warrant investing 140% more… esp with still only 512MB RAM - the original's biggest limitation in my book.

Side by side specs on GSMarena show very little as extras:-
        http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4467&idPhone2=…

I note there is a model in between these two: the ZTE Light Tab V9C which is why this latest is "Light Tab 2":
        http://www.gsmarena.com/zte_light_tab_v9c-4466.php

        • you do realize the difference between resistive touch and capacitive, with GPU/CPU and without GPU, with flash support and wifi b/g/n and without flash and wifi N, gsmarena does not show the Optus Tab specs which had wifi b/g only…, have a look at your optus tab specs and then compare… lol

    Version 2.3 Gingerbread

    Make/Model Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255

    RAM 512MB

    ROM 4GB

lots of fail for the money

  • +1

wow alot of china tabs can beat this around $100

this is so bad fail compare to the 1st one

    • +1

yes but a china tab will not have inbuilt 3G, so i guess the selling point of this is 3G alone… :(
      EDIT: I can't find even one china tab having a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 @ 1.4Ghz and Adreno 205 with 3G @ HSDPA: 14.4Mbps HSUPA: 5.76Mbps, and a 3.2MP camera. ;)

      • +1

But ZTE is from China. And they do have already built 3g networks…so a inbuilt 3g tab comes out naturally.

        • I think he means the ones you can find on eBay and all over those wholesale websites…

ZTE does cost more for such specs.

I wanted to add including a 1024x600px screen to the list in my above reply…

        • +1

I wanted to add including a 1024x600px screen to the list in my above reply…

Thats one of the fail things about this tab. 1280x800 is where its at for anything over $150.

        • prove it ? but must be below $250 including 3G and known brand… lol

  • only if 3g is a mustttt

  • +2

    2.3???
Even ICS is old already :p

  • ….and their support and overall service was great. Can you (jetair) please explain how their support/service worked for you from the other side of the world.
EDIT: Okay I see from your profile that you are located in the UK not Australia. So I guess your support/service comment is probably not directly applicable to us here in Oz buying from a UK company.

    • Well i bought a Samsung S8500 - Wave, from them on (2/6/2010)

I called in regards to change shipping type from standard to fedex express, as their old system didn't show me the other shipping options, they were prompt in helping me and shipped it the same day, oh did i forget to mention they didn't charge me extra for it and I got it within 3 days from UK !!! lol ;)

      • But you ARE located in the UK. Have you checked your profile lately?

        • yes i was, i don't need to update this like facebook… lol

  • +2

I see a lot of pontificating, but nobody's posted a link to a better deal with the same featureset. Yeah, that means 3G kids! ;)

  • Need to check how snappy is before paying more than $99 for this.

  • Tablet isn't really the platform for voice communication, that would be an Android cellphone, and you'd be caught paying for unnecessary duplication here.

Tablet is primarily a display / media playback / reader device.

Even Tablets dating 6 months back beat out the specs on this device at 50% of the cost.

Says who?? On both counts! I use a ZTE V9 as a desk top phone (way better handsfree than any Android cell) on a $10.99 Live Connected Tribe 2 plan and save heaps over normal land line rates (ahem…includes 1.5G data). Haipad DOES NOT HAVE 3G and that's the point, my dear Watson… ZTE v9 even at a few hundred bucks is still a cheap way into a credible tablet (browse, download, movies, roaming etc) with the versatility of a cell…

    • Well I was speaking from my vantage, the same way I suspect you speak from yours.

      • +1

Somebody, please hold up a palm so I can slam my face into it… :p

      • SB I read your comment after digesting a tip earlier and helpfully provided, "Only a bit better than the original Optus MyTab." I agree with the refresh model offers little improvement and poor ROI, therefore, I share what is an advanced option. no, not an "all in one" but I believe telco-operators have a Galaxy note or some-such up their sleeve for those into 'the hybrid'. Me, I'm just happy keeping certain things apart.

        • Seriously daver, trying to understand WTF you're saying is giving me a headache…please stop.

        • ? Repeating feedback (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/76934#comment-980781) that "ZTE V9A" investment =$241, would buy very low specs.

Optus MyTab=$99.00 (old) was = best return on investment for a calling/tablet.

Today, cluey users might choose phone: but personal hotspot to the 'tablet'.

  • +2

I agree with Stewballs, and this will be a quality, well sorted product like most ZTE gear. Like Stumo though, I bought a 7.7 a couple of days ago and will be tethering it off a smartphone…

  • -5

    https://www.google.com.au/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ie=U…

There we go - heaps of crap 3g tablets for under $100. The posted tablet is hardly better than any of these

  • -1

Look again my friend… most if not all of your 'crap 3g tablets for under $100' support EXTERNAL and not INTEGRATED 3G!! Dongle shop here you come (chuckle!!)

    • Ah did you miss that comment some posts above — "tethering it off a smartphone…" - despite what Ts & Cs suggest on your mobile plan, people might utilise their existing (inbuilt) modem.

  • Well a lot of people, like my wife, used their original MyTab as an "everything" device so inbuilt 3G is a big advantage for some.
I have been looking for a replacement for her as shes hitting the wall in terms of usability of the original. This would do great but I'd only be prepared to pay ~ $180 with the Nexus 7 setting the recent pricepoint.

  • +1

First of all, it's cheaper on eBay (~$$235.61, also posted from UK):

As of 3G 7" tablets, all you need is to do a search on DX, BuySKU or Meritline. For example:

    • Cutepad F7 — Allwinner A10 1.5GHz, 512MB/8GB, ICS USD$160
    • Noname Ugly Pad — Allwinner A01 1.5GHz, 512MB/4GB, ICS USD$138.19

Yes these only have 800x480 capacitive touch-screens, but significantly cheaper than ZTE V9A and are running ICS. If you want good experience visual experience, it would be better buying Nexus 7 or Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and then do tethering. Or even Ainol Novo7 AuroraII + tethering would be more powerful.

    • Scotty, that eBay price looks great, however for the $5 difference I rather deal with a reputable firm than an eBay seller.

      1. The tablets you have show are all nameless, have generic MALI400 GPUs with overclocked Cortex A8s re-branded as A10s which do not exist…, the Cortex A8 can only max out 1Ghz, god only knows how long before it burns out at 1.5Ghz…, there have been reports after reports of cpu's slowing due to heating element damage, etc, this tablet has a solid Qualcomm MSM8255 tried and tested by high end products….

      2. Not to mention the cheap TFT screens, 1.3MP cameras and shipped from an unknown source that will take a Processing Time of "25days" to get to me. This has an energy efficient LCD display, 3.2MP camera that will reach me in 3-4 days…

      3. Tethering means having to carry additional stuff, all of which needs charging and will cost extra, this can be used as a hotspot too.

      4. ICS is available for this ZTE, all you need to do is root it and away you go….

      5. The genuine and reliable parts used in this product are 10x better than any generic chinese tablet.

EDIT: Those tablets weigh 600-693g, this ZTE weighs 389g… lol

Let me end by saying, if i slapped a Samsung or Sony brand label to this people would have gone insane.

If anyone finds a KNOWN or half decent brand tablet with 3G for under $250, let me know please !!! :D

  • +2

ZTE V9 my tab had 3G+BlueTooth+GPS, I've nto seen anything like that for a reasonable price. The cheapy ebay tabs are not comparable, and really the ones I have tried in an attempt to upgrade my mytab(like the Ainol Aurora) have been a bitter dissapointment.

I like the resistive screen on the zte v9, it's better than many capacitatives, the only issue is the screen resolution - now that I've got the retina IPS screen on the Ainol, I want that. (But the Aurora has the worst most awful build quality I've ever come across)…

If this one came down to $149 - $190 I'd buy it as an upgrade of my ZTE V9's.

  • jetair, when my cheap/unlucrative (guessing your angle to it) knock off, burns [email protected] then I will go shop another (112.99) with $15 change from $241! "This has yet to happen"

       Android 4.0
       Telechip TCC8923,1.2GHz
7 inch IPS LCD 5 points Capacitive Multitouch
       1024*600,16:9
       HDMI output
       1GB DDR3 RAM,8GB Nandflash Support up to 32GB
       3600mAh lipo battery
       3G external data(but via my tether/USB2.0value add)

clove uk may have established reputation, though I have no qualms, sourcing with and from highly decorated "Top-rated (99.5%) " coming out @ -$5.00 relative, which constitute an actual bargain. Chinease name-to chinease name product; but they do eventually arrive via mail even for a bit 1 month of waiting.

    • "but they do eventually arrive via mail even for a bit 1 month of waiting."
haha that hope of waiting a month… lol

I have replaced my ZT282 C91 3 times now, I am sick and tired of these tablets, I spent $218 for it a year ago, sending it for replacement 3 times cost me a total of $40x3=$120 in total just P/H handling to china, plus the numerous times it crashed on ICS was just sickening !

NOW, finally I am venturing further into spending more for some kind of brand and I trust clove UK sell good brands…, but this Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 holds my one eye and this ZTE 3G thing has got me hooked too… lol

      • +2

Honestly jetair, I wouldn't bother trying to present logical arguments to most of these guys if I were you…they're all too busy comparing apples to oranges! The only thing even remotely like a valid alternative is a mere $5 cheaper from an unknown international ebayer with 3x units total!

IMHO, just do what a lot of users have done & stop posting bargains that you find, just keep them for yourself & leech them from here; the whinging you have to endure for posting just isn't worth the effort. ;)

      • …they're all too busy comparing apples to oranges!

People only bought MyTab/3G model 'cause the carrier subsidized half of its retail cost, back then. There is simply no way today to make this junk passable, as hard scrutiny on the site have demonstrated. End of the day it is about bang for buck (not a '3G radio').

        • End of the day it is about bang for buck…

That's subjective. Can you post a link to a better deal on an equivalent 3G tablet???

That's the problem with you guys, you're so self-centred…try to think about things from others' perspectives for a change; some people want a 3G tablet, period! Crapping on about tethering will not change that!

        • The equivalent through eBay is probably best deal you will find on this waning option (consider: 5 votes, including 1 vote yours) until, as I alluded, a carrier puts money in to them again.

What point anyway getting in a fever over: 3G integration, if - the device is fat, RAM+ROM cut to half, OS=old, no HDMI, screen a non-IPS w/ washy colour at angles- one might as well call that an outdated, clunky phone when it ceases to portray a decent tablet.

Assuming there exists demand for 3G-integrated these buyers would clearly want to know of each deficit/limitation/opinion on the total package they are invested, as it has influence on the whole experience. The Android of 2years ago v2.3, would not match the Android of present, and same go for hardware.

The pity about this carefully critiqued deal is that with insufficient votes not as many may see it, and therefore will lack the knowledge transfer they would have gleaned IRT more economical choices, superior technology & overwhelmingly popular tethering. Apart from this there isn't much one can do but hope for a subsidy, that would bring inbuilt radio 3G to being affordable and competitive.

        • +1

Dude, seriously, simplify your English or trim it down…trying to sound academic makes you almost illegible. I wasn't being facetious earlier, your grammar is giving me a headache to read.

Fact 1: Some people other than you want 3G…that's why I haven't upgraded my own SGT1.
Fact 2: Tethering is a pain in the arse, you can literally watch the battery on your phone die!
Fact 3: Nobody has posted a better 3G option, yourself included.
Fact 4: This ain't my first rodeo: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/75744

  • -1

get the nexus 7, 3g aint shit when you can just tether with your phone to use 3g

  • Coincidentally, I'm selling my original V9.

There is an ICS build that runs on that one, not sure about the V9A though. I still run CM7.2 on mine though.
    http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&…

V9A vs Nexus 7, I think unless you really need inbuilt 3G, Nexus is the way to go. Compared to the china tabs though, you'd probably also lose GPS as well as 3G with those, another thing to consider..

    • Coincendentally I'm also selling my BRAND NEW unopened original V9 (with unlock code) for $100.

If anyone's interested, please PM me. Sydney pickup. Any train stations around Sydney CBD is ifne.
