Just avoid bumper cars (above). You should be fine.

          • @trixieb: ha ha I read that, I've been looking for cheap hard cases since, slim picking unless you want something that looks like a cheap Transformer knockoff

Best thing about this phone is the weight at 155g. Might be the lightest phone you can get in this form factor? I've got the Xiaomi Lite 11 5G and it's a couple of grams heavier and I love it. Barely notice you're carrying a phone around.

    • My current phone is 145g!

For anyone on the fence, I have an Edge 30 Neo and it's honestly among the best phones I've ever used. I also tried out the other Edge models and landed on Neo for it's price at the time.

I highly recommend the Moto Edge 30 series. Don't even wait, just get one and try it out and sell it second hand for $300 in a few weeks if you have to.

Here's an essay that I wrote to spruik the Edge series because I have ADHD and a nostalgia stiffy for Motorola (although they're actually owned and produced by Lenovo now, for whom I also have a reminiscence boner):

The Edge 30 Neo is the best phone purchase I've ever made and among the best I've ever seen or used, with my second favorite being pixel 7, which I poached from my workplace when I suddenly smashed my old RealMe 7 Pro a few months ago (the RealMe had nice hardware for the budget but was overall a terrible experience and I'm quietly glad that it jumped out of my Lime bike basket and face planted itself on the asphalt).

FYI I've never considered an iPhone as a good device. I've never liked an Apple product in my life, and I've had a few, oh yes. They give me the absolute shits, just like genuine apples. Probably take that into account for this review if you're into Apple devices, and if you'd like to voice your opinion on this opinion, please write me a letter and throw it in your garbage for later collection by my assistant.

One notable drawback with the Edge is the cameras and photo software, as with any Moto, apparently (just realized I've also found this typical for all Lenovo devices).

Daytime outdoor photos, in particular, come out with a ton of visual noise, but this might just be a Neo issue, as the cameras are different between the base Edge and Neo. I don't know shit about cameras but device comparison websites say the Neo's camera is better than base Edge version's, so keep this in mind if a bad camera is a deal breaker for you. Having come from using a Pixel 7, the only thing that I miss is the amazing camera. Moto photos often just look like cyborg barf for some reason. Definitely worth considering.

I got the Neo for $450 at JB a few weeks ago, after exercising excessive due diligence to find a phone to suit my criteria:
5G, ~6" screen, 120hz refresh, high brightness (nits), fast charging, fingerprint sensor, reasonable battery capacity and performance, 8gb ram, minimal bloatware and lightweight (<200 grams).

The Edge series checks all those boxes, except for 8gb ram, which the Neo has but base Edge has 6gb (this is possibly a deal breaker for me - I don't think 6gb is enough to suffice for snappy functionality with most apps within the next ~2 years, if not already).

Another drawback is no wireless charging on base Edge, which Neo has, but at a pitiful 5 watts. However, wired charging on the Edge is up to 33 watts, and a whopping 65 watts on the Neo, and they come with chargers to meet that maximum rate, something that I've found frustratingly absent from both mid and high end phones in recent years. So with the 4020mah battery, the Edge will go from 0-100 in <90 minutes. The Neo does it in <45 minutes, and I love feeling that my phone is charging so hard that it might it catch fire because that's how I feel after popping my ADHD meds, so it's nice to have common ground there.

For contrast, the Pixel 7 took (profanity) ages to charge (I think it's 10 watts max? Wtf is google doing?), I don't even know how long it took, I never waited long enough and it was always on <50% battery, even with the additional 1000mah capacity.

High battery usage on the Pixel 7 could mostly be attributed to the very fancy screen, which looked beautiful but I often found functionality unresponsive and touch inaccurate, and the fingerprint scanner was straight up broken (again, wtf google?). Edge screens look and feel very nice, I can read in any conditions, adaptive brightness is actually quick and useful, the responsiveness and touch accuracy is great, and the fingerprint sensor is always spot on. I'm also happier with Lenovo giving my print to the CCP than I am with Google giving it to the NSA.

There's probably some other considerations but my impulsive focus is burnt out now so I'll just say here you're getting most of a 1k+ budget model device for $350. This deal is giving me some minor buyer's remorse, and a stiffy.

    • Wow, gave you a + and more if I could. You can work in marketing.

    • Thanks chatgpt

    • I got a small stiffy just reading that.

Just got one now. Thanks OP

  • Just got one for $300 using coles ultimate gc 10% bonus and jb mothers day $20 off $200 spend promo

Very nice and a lot of phone for the price. Nice bright, buttery smooth screen. Very decent camera, portrait mode is pretty good. I don't even mind that it's mostly plastic, looks premium without the weight.

  • Maybe I can fix it?….

Got PTSD looking at those pics 😭

As they are about the same price (jb v's eBay) new/onSale NEW

The only thing Ill note aside from the specs, side by side is that you can put Graphene OS on the Pixel

  • That's a whole lotta phone for the price: https://nanoreview.net/en/phone/motorola-edge-30
Not sure why G82 stock hasn't cleared when this is a much better phone.

  • Got one of these for kicks a week ago. So far, still haven't gone back to my iphone 11.

Plan was to use this phone until iphone 15 is out. So far, it's been difficult without iMessages. BUT can i say, the 5G connection is fast, the phone screen refresh is super smooth, and the screen brightness is great. Youtube has never looked so good. Battery is also fine so far.

The BEST part of this phone, for me is the wifi hotspot is REALLY fast. So when i use this on the go with a laptop, it's incredible as a portable modem/hotspot for the family. The value in this phone is incredible for $350.

  • so no e-sim?
