YouTube Premium Monthly: Single INR ₹129 (~A$2.34), Family INR ₹189 (~A$3.44) + More @ YouTube India (VPN Required)

2651

Welcome to the Ultimate Guide of Youtube Premium Subscriptions via India

6 months reminder about this deal and guess what? With fluctuating currencies, prices are now even cheaper! both for India and Turkey

While individual (single) plans via India remain the cheapest and should work for most Australian credit/debit cards (from experience I know ExpressVPN works for India if you connect to India via Singapore server), family plan sign-ups will fail for 99% of you unless you have an Indian issued bank card. If this the case, the only other option may be Youtube Premium Family via Turkey.

YouTube Premium: Individual TRY ₺29.99 (~A$2.30), Family TRY ₺59.99 (~A$4.60) @ YouTube Turkey

After Google increased the prices for Youtube Premium in several countries worldwide late 2022, including USA, UK, Canada, Argentina, Turkey, Japan (etc), we have the following facts:

  • Argentina is no longer the cheapest country to sign up from after being the go-to for years (now ARS 389 / A$2.67 for Individual plans and ARS 699 / A$4.80 for Family plans). Further, they have changed the way they take payments and so many Australian debit and credit cards no longer work for Argentina.
  • India is now the cheapest country to sign up from, although subscribing to the Youtube Premium (Family) plan is almost impossible given India's new laws around payments and now requires a local Indian payment method, something most of us do not have access to. Youtube Premium (Individual) should still be doable using ExpressVPN.
  • Turkey is now the second cheapest and easiest country to sign up from (just under 10 cents more than India)

Since last deal, most OzBargainers have migrated from Argentina to other countries (majorily Turkey). If you tried to sign up to a Youtube Premium Family via India, you probably hit a dead end, with most cards ending up declining due to this reason and this reason. Connect via Turkey instead

Available Plans via India:

For price references, Youtube Premium via Australia is $8.99/mth for student plans, $14.99/mth for individual plans & $22.99/mth for family plans

You can subscribe to either a monthly plan or an annual plan.

Plan Monthly Cost Yearly Cost 3 Month Plan
Individual INR ₹129 / AU$2.34 INR ₹1290 / AU$23.48 INR ₹399 / AU$7.26
Family INR ₹189 / AU$3.44
Student INR ₹79 / AU$1.44

Instructions (No Current Subscription)

  2. Go to https://www.youtube.com/premium and if it shows currency in Indian Rupees, continue choosing your membership.

  3. Enter your Indian address (get a fake one here and proceed to pay by credit card (it will redirect you to a secure payment vendor gateway (because our bank is in Australia), which will add several cents to your Youtube Premium cost). If the payment declines, just continue to press "buy" and it will eventually redirect you to the secure payment vendor gateway.

Instructions (Transferring from a different country)

Note: If you're signing up for a family plan, best to add your Australia family members / accounts into a family group before signing up. To add family members: https://families.google.com/families

ISP Notes

  • Most VPN services have removed Indian servers due to new laws in India

  • Use ExpressVPN and connect to India via Singapore. Sign up and use the 30 Day Money Back Guarantee to get a refund. Of course you can try and use a different VPN :)

  • I can sign up for individual (all cards work, payment due sometime next month) but family sub gives me errors on all cards

  • If payment fails, try creating an Indian payment profile. You can create a new payment profile by following these steps by alcheron: go to https://pay.google.com/gp/w/u/0/home/settings and clicking the pen icon next to "Country/Region" and a link to create a new profile should pop up. You can then add details for the India profile.

FAQ

Q: Will I get banned by Google?
A: There’s always a chance, however only a tiny number of people (<5) have actually gotten suspended by Google (see linked previous post in OP). Proceed at your own risk.

Please note the process can be easy for some people, harder for others, or may not work at all.

  • There is no need for aggression in instances where you are unable to subscribe. Share your experience so everyone can chip in and help out. There are plenty of examples where hacks shared on this platform do not work for some people, but may work for others:

    • Modem reset for faster internet,
    • Cash back program purchase tracking,
    • Price matching an unobtainable deal or price error,
    • Targeted bargains, and
    • Limited quantity items quickly or instant (bot) sellout.
  • Similarly we know there are cash back users who follow every single step for cash back (turn off ad blocker, have no items in cart, do not click other links, etc.) on their purchases and it does not work, its probably best to move on.There are many users who successfully use this hack and enjoy paying half the price of the Australian membership. Unfortunately there are also many users who have been unable to sign up. After all it is intended for people who reside in these respective countries. If it does not work, I am not affiliated with any of the entities listed below or linked to and cannot guarantee any outcome. I can only read comments on this platform and others to share them with you. Your patience is appreciated. Please do not take it personally.

That deal was for YouTube Turkey 🦃

      • -1

Should just be the same deal with both details in it.

        • +4

Except they're not the same deal, so, no.

          • +3

            @KangaDrew: YouTube premium= YouTube premium

I'm all for the deal, I use it. Just don't see why need to different posts with all the same info apart from country choice.

            • +12

@SBOB: Both countries have different methods of signing up. Everything is different - different countries, different prices, different methods, different errors, different post :)

              • @I Smell Pennies: Any idea why I am getting a blank (empty) screen when I got to the the following when I go to the YouTube Premium portals via Indian VPN.
                https://www.youtube.com/premium?
                https://www.youtube.com/premium/family

I moved from Argentina, closed the Argentina payment profile and opened a new Indian payment profile with Indian issued ICCI debit visa card.

I managed to purchase an Indian Individual monthly subscription for INR 129 but it got cancelled.
The card is not the problem as the transaction was authorized properly and I got an email from the bank that reoccurring payments for INR 129 was setup successfully until 2031

It displays YouTube in for India so the VPN is making it show India as the region.

                https://whatismyipaddress.com/
                ISP: DigitalOcean LLC
                City: Bengaluru
                Region: Karnataka
                Country: India

              • @I Smell Pennies: Update 2:
By default my country in the address field in google home and payment profile is going as Argentina after I deleted my old google payment Indian profile. Even after I changed the country the first time. The reason might be that my previously cancelled YouTube Premium subscription is from Argentina and its what it shows as cancelled subscription. It does not show the YouTube Premium India subscription which I signed up one week ago and was cancelled by Google.

                Update 1:
I moved from Argentina, closed the Argentina payment profile and opened a new Indian payment profile with Indian issued ICCI debit visa card.

I canceled my payment profile again. Ensured that the home address and payment profile address is the same and opened a new payment profile.

Could not subscribe to family plan but subscribed to individual plan for INR 129 but it got canceled after a few hours.

My card was successfully authorized and also I got a notification from my card issuer that reoccurring payments has been setup

I signed up for a new Google account and it accepted my same card allowed me for the YouTube family 30 day trial but the problem is I have my family circle already added to my other google account which I am unable to subscribe.

              • @I Smell Pennies: Been using the Indian method for years now and somehow I forgot to pay my monthly subscription and now I’m having trouble starting again it took a payment in Rupee but when I went back to YouTube it’s still not premium? Can anybody help me ?

  • +1

How to change from individual plan to a family plan?

  • These are actually good but due to the complexity, it would be great if there was some way a family plan could be paid annually. Is there any way to do this or is this a restriction by YouTube globally?
Otherwise do you all pay monthly with an Oz credit card and pay the fees (conversion fee etc) every month?

    • +1

Yeah but it's an auto payment

    • +4

I'd never pay for Youtube Premium. Not even a cent.
You can get the exact same feature for free, without advertisements with these alternatives:

      For Android, use ReVanced
      https://www.reddit.com/r/revancedapp/comments/xlcny9/revance…

      For iOS, use uYouPlus
      https://github.com/qnblackcat/uYouPlus#installation

      No root. No Jailbreaking required.
They allow you to log on to google, see your youtube subscriptions, etc.
They also allow you to play on the background, even when your phone is off.

      • +1

and on PC and Google TV dongle, how do I use ReVanced? Do I get the free Music as well?

      • +2

Revanced is great in many ways, but it doesn't give the exact same features as YouTube Premium.

Casting in particular can be a crapshoot. I also use Premium a lot with smart devices, which revanced can't do.

I have not tried it myself but a friend says Premium has more features for YouTube kids.

Don't get me wrong, Revanced is fine for many users. But YouTube Premium is also well worth the minor cost with these overseas sign ups.

        • Agreed, I use YouTube a lot on our smart TV's and the fact that the casting always works means YouTube Premium is essential. Also, the creators/channels on YouTube earn more money from views from YouTube Premium subscribers than regular viewers (probably still a pittance though), so that's nice too

        • +2

          Revanced for Mobile
          Ublock for Desktop
SmartTube Next for TV (if you have a Google TV or Firestick)

          The holy trinity

        • +1

          SmartTubeNext for TV

      • Tell me how to use those on a smartTV or dongle, appleTV, etc.

      • But there are no alternatives for Roku - and I have several of them - so it's well worth a couple of bucks a month to me
Before I signed up via virtual India a couple of years ago, the unreliability of Android Vanced used to drive me nuts
If all I used was Windows I wouldn't bother as ads are easily blocked there

      • I've moved on from Vanced to re-Vanced on 4 devices. All of them have issues with buffering Eg. You let videos play one after the other then it'll hit a video where it just goes black and doesn't load, doesn't matter if you refresh or close the app it just won't play it.

  • +2

I have Indian credit card, and I can not get YouTube premium. Because I can not jump hoops setup by recent regulations for recurring payments.

    • Just purchase a yearly plan. If you pay the amount more than once it would just extend the renewal date automatically. I have paid for my YT premium until 2025 lol.

    • That is the issue with your card/bank not regulator. HDFC credit cards work just fine.

  • I'm with Argentina ~$2.69, not too much saving to switch to India ~$2.34 and need Indian bank card too.

    • +2

I'm on Argentina also. For the hassle of switching and the possibility of something screwing up and losing access for the sake of a few cents, I'm happy to pay that tiny bit extra. There'd need to be like a $2-3 jump in price for Argentina for me to bail out. Even then it's still worth it for me n

Why is this so important ? Just a genuine question..cheaper netflix or Disney or similar I can get.. why take so much of trouble for youtube which is a user submitted content broadcaster ? Don't they just show a couple of adverts on every thing that can be muted .. does anyone actually use youtube as an alternative to live tv and netflix and are bothered by the adverts and are adults ? Don't get me wrong..I watch a LOT of youtube ..but only when on the computer..I have never ever felt the need to even take on the free trial let alone trying to save on a youtube premium subscription…Does it offer some content only available to subscribers or is it just advert free content that someone has uploaded ? I am asking a question here not judging.. please do not negate so much that no one can see what I have written ..What am I missing out if I do not subscribe to youtube ?

      YouTube music is very good

      • Better than spotify ?

        • +2

maybe not better, but def much cheaper

          • @PercyKK: true ..I guess.. does not work for me for music ..but I get it

          • +3

@PercyKK: You can actually make Spotify quite cheap by jumping on a family plan from an international country. I'm part of a family plan from the Philippines and I pay about $8AUD yearly.

    • +8

Given the number of ads on almost all YouTube content lately, I think a couple of bucks a month is definitely worth paying. I don't use YouTube on computer too much, if I did AdBlock would have done the trick blocking the ads. However for phones there are alternatives like YouTube Vanced etc, but you can't seem to download it anymore and there were lots of issues with it for me. So I uninstalled it.
The other use for the paid YouTube for me is music. Since paying for YouTube, I have unsubscribed from Spotify saving me quite a bit a month. I think it's worth the money (this money, not the ridiculous Aussie pricing), but depends what you want to do with it.
Btw, you can also save offline videos, play with the screen locked etc. Again, YMMV

      • Ok ..thank you for replying..does not fit my use case but now I know ..AdBlock btw doesnt block youtube ads .. I do not mind them either

        • Ublock origin and SponsorBlock. Get on it.

        • Ublock origin blocks youtube ads, how can you not understand the concept of someone not wanting to watch ads?
Go download ublock origin, use it for a month, if you can go back to ads I would question your sanity.

        • What do you mean Adblock doesn't block ads?

          • @Villainous: I do have ublock origin .. what are you using to block adverts on youtube? The add ons does not work for me with tghe latest Chrome or Edge

            • +1

@shaidas: Have always used Adblock on Chrome. Haven't seen an ad in 15 years.

              • +1

@Villainous: same, adblock on Chrome works for Youtube ads for me

                • @Mr Frodo: Thanks guys..Ill try it again ..have been using ublock origin @Villainous..didnt seem to work on chrome or edge

    • +9

Adult here with zero Live TV, Netflix, Disney.Just YouTube Premium and Amazon Prime (for free shipping). Watching is mostly on YouTube as I can't be bothered watching any commercial/corporate movie production anymore. 99% of content I see nowadays are user generated content.

        • +4

Married for over 20 years. Not sure why that matters. Also got a preschooler at home who has own favourite channels on YouTube Kids, again mostly user generated content.

            • @shaidas: Everyone watches their own thing. Very rarely we cast something on the TV for everyone to watch together.

              • @aj3000: Thanks bud.. I asked a question and you answered ..looks like a lot of people were offended..that seems to be the past time nowadays..anyways thanks

            • +4

@shaidas: Stop talking garbage and making ignorant assumptions. First you say you must not be married yet, then you say you HAVE to be 40 plus.

It's crazy that it amazes you that diversity exists and not everyone fits the stereotypes in your head.

              • -5

@NoApostrophePlurals: Not very good at maths are you ? Somone who is married over 20 years and has a kid is 40 plus unless they got married before 20 ..what does diversity have anything to do with it ? What stereotypes? Next you will be shouting racist …before you comment read and think ..Did I say anyone else was talking garbage or were making assumptions ? If anyone made any assumptions its you .. and you were not even a part of this discussion :-D

                • @shaidas: Shut up already. Read the room.. look at your neg votes.

                  • @NoApostrophePlurals: Shut up already ?Read the room ? Where do you think you are mate Appollo doing a performance and who in God's name do you think you are .. the PM of this country or a Diva ? Jeez …politeness doesnt seem to work on you does it ? As easy as it is for people like you to comment online, voting is also a click of a button..bet you would'nt be so impolite had we met face to face. My question..my comment..dont like it piss off and neg all you want

                    • @shaidas: Blah blah blah blah blah.

                      • -1

@NoApostrophePlurals: Yep..just as I thought :-D and the 4 people you rent your room with will neg this as they have been doing :-D.. Who asked you anyways mate? This was a conversation between two adults ..why did you and your mates jump into it..why do you pay for Youtube as a student .. you are not smart AT all :-D

                        • @shaidas: 😂😂😂 Jesus you are f'ing delusional with your wild assumptions and being wrong with everything you say. Please, carry on. I've clearly triggered you. 🤡

                          • @NoApostrophePlurals: :-D ..thats exactly what I am and thats exactly what you di with your superior intellect :-D …well How about I apologise for my behaviour..wont make your life less pleasant ..but might make you happier for a moment

                            • @shaidas:

No that matters a lot.. so you have a wife over 20 years a family and kids and all you and everyone in the family watch is youtube ..you HAVE to be 40 plus ..that is absolutely amazing mate.. thank you for replying..that is amazing to me

Not sure if you’re being a smartass here or what but not sure why this is “amazing” to you?

First of all everyone on OzB is of all ages. We got teenages, young adults, middle age adults and even elderly people here subscribing to Youtube Premium.

@aj3000 is the same with me. My family is huge and mostly we all watch our own things, on the occasion we cast to a TV and watch it as a family.

Not sure how that’s interesting to you? I don’t want to assume anything or make any “guesses” about you so I’ll stop it here.

In regards to your original question, I think other people have answered it already. The ads itself is enough for me to pay $4.6 a month. That’s a coffee sacrifice for a whole month’s worth for the entertainment of my family and myself.

                              • @I Smell Pennies: Good for you.. what are you so hot and bothered or ? Its amazing that a family with kids just watches yotube for enteratinment ..kids go to school and hear about series being played on netflix, they come back and ask the parents for Disney or netflix.. why then is it not amazing that you have kids and can manage with youtube premium ad free ? It is to me …everything that is said is neither racist nor anti you ..I posed a question because I was curious, I replied to an answer because I was curious hoiw do you get away with kids just watching you tube and going to school with their own age .. unless they are too young for school then they are not kids , they are toddlers

Edit..what does OZB and members have to do with this anyways :-D.. You lot are the ones who raised an issue ..I asked a simple question which was replied .. then someone from your clan jumps in and 3 more neg my comments..here we are ..Stop shooting arrows at everyone who asks a questions.. black or white , Indians or Sri Lankans or Pakistanis or Bangladeshis you are aussies now

                                • @shaidas: Why do you keep bringing race into this? No one said anything about race. You've completely misconstrued what diversity means for some reason.

Diversity isn't just about race. Diversity can just mean different people like and do different things, raise their kids differently, consume media differently to you or anyone esle. Just because you might stereotype what a normal family will or won't do or watch, it doesn't mean the same for everyone. That's what diversity is.

By the sounds of things, you don't have children of your own. Everything that amazes you really shouldn't. It might be interesting, but it should hardly amaze anyone with an open mind that not everybody is the same. I'm sorry it blows your mind, and no offence, it might mean you're too close minded.

There was nothing wrong with your original question at all. No one negged you for that. It's the way you projected your amazement in following comments, it's almost condescending and patronising. I think the people who negged you think you come off as completely ignorant of how society actually operates.

                                  • @NoApostrophePlurals: Race, Diversity.?? really !! .I asked a question about youtube premium and it's value, got some meaningful answers then an assault.. while it is great that you guys are friends and jump in to defend each other.. this discussion was completely unwarranted as is your pscyho analaysis …I and any normal human living in Australia would tell you it is amazing that you have kids going to school and happy with only youtube.. well if you think that is not amazing.. you guys are in for a bad surprise ..that sir/madam is amazing..I hope it carries on but I doubt it . Either ways all the best.. you will need it ..and this is my last comment on this topic

                                    • @shaidas: Can I once again make perfectly clear.. let me clarify to you.. that YOU are the only one who keeps going on about race.

                                      Unwarranted psychoanalysis 😂
You're the one out here trying to guess someones marital status, family nucleus and lifestyle based on their media consumption habits and getting blown away by the most mundane levels of diversity.

I'm very glad you will no longer be replying as there's no point reasoning with someone with such narrow minded views. Enjoy living in your bubble! 😘

Like others said, YouTube Music. IMO it has a lot more obscure content compared to Spotify.

Also casting and smart device integration without ads.

A friend says it's great for YouTube Kids.

Ultimately though I just want a seamless experience across all my devices with zero time wasted on ads. The very minor cost for Premium is well worth it for the time not spent dealing with ads or an occasionally buggy experience with Revanced, Pi-hole etc.

    • +1

I used to pay roughly $4-$5 a month through Argentina for YouTube premium family. Back when it was like under $2 before they hiked the Argentinian prices I could justify the subscription . But now I don't think i use it enough to justify the cost.

So now I've started below based on comments in these type of posts and honestly it's much better imo. These apps I actually prefer to the official YouTube app.

      • Android TV/Google tv/Amazon firestick: Smart Tube Next
      • Android phone: revanced… Can also use with YouTube music for those into the music streaming with Google. Good guide here how to set it up
      • browser: Firefox + ublock + sponsorblock

With this setup, not sure why I ever paid for premium

  • Youtube vanced makes it free on Android

    • They've already taken down Vance. Some videos don't play. Had to change mine to revanced now. No issues with vanced music so far

      • Does Vanced Music allow you to play music that isn't on YouTube?

        • Don't think so

      • Vanced stopped working for me completely late last year. just downloaded reVanced a few days a go, so far so good. It performs a little bit better too.

        • I also prefer old layout with 3 icons at the bottom

    • Vanced was dead a long time ago bro, most users are now switching to Revanced

      • +1

I'm still using vanced & has been getting worse over time, apparently I'm behind the times.

Got a link to "revanced" please? Dm is fine

      • I'm still using vanced with no issues, only just learned of re vanced but good to know for future use

    • use Youtube ReVanced for future support

    • All other unofficial apps will be good alternatives until their use base becomes large enough for GG to threaten them with legal action and pull their api.

  • +1

I am using this for the last three years. Using my ANZ card. Download India VPN, which is free from play store. Select a free server in Bangalore or some other city, give a fake address. Pay, enjoy.

  • I have had an Indian YT Premium family plan for many months now and my 28 Degrees card continues to be correctly charged every month. Is the payment failure limited to NEW sign ups only?

    • Same here. No issues with 28 degrees. Been setup for more than a year.

However my card expires next month. Wondering if it would accept new card.

      • I had no trouble updating the card expiry and CVV2 of the 28 Degrees card in the Indian payment profile without using a VPN last week.

        • Thanks so much. I was just able to do this to keep my existing card. You saved me a bunch of mucking around. Cheers!

      • I've lived in YouTube Virtual India for several years now. My new card was accepted
But it took most of that time to learn to stop recommending Indian music to me

It's even cheaper if you buy 12 months worth - and the razorpay that they use converts currency for you into AUD - total $25.88 for 12 months makes it $2.15 p/month

    • How do you buy 12 months worth on the family plan? Or do you mean the single plan?

      • I picked single plan

  • There are two ways to avoid ads on YouTube for free: 1. Ad blocker
    2. Simply add another .(full stop) after the com and no ads. It works on several browsers.

    • Neither method is available on smart TVs though, which is the only reason I have premium

edit: after this comment I did some searching and found SmartTube (https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTubeNext). I installed it using the "easiest" method and it seems to be working perfectly. Guess I can cancel my premium subscription now

    • you can't do it on mobile.

  • Anyone have a fix to this message?

Reserve Bank of India requires that cards support automatic payments according to RBI regulations. If your card doesn't support automatic payments, you'll need to purchase a prepaid plan or use a different card. We'll check your card in the next step. Learn more

Pressing Continue it opens a popup and closes and then does nothing.

Edit: Nvm Hola VPN to India didn't work. I had the 189₹ subscription and had issues with update payment methods, just deactivated, went on a different VPN and was able to rejoin

    • Which vpn did you use?

      • Urban VPn Proxy extension

        • I was using the same (Urban VPN) but it just keeps on declining the payment (Reserve bank of India…….).

    • You'll hit the RBI wall again when it tries to auto-renew next month
