  • Can't be long before 1tb for ~$99.

Id love a 1TB. Running windows 10 in the SteamDeck off it. Installing MSFS2020 sits at 100% write speed but flawless so far

Not sure if trolling or serious.

If you can't understand sarcasm and scam products you should hand in your OZB licence.

@Mechz: With all the crap going on in the world currently, and all the dumb stuff people are doing…it's pretty hard to tell sometimes.

    • How's MSFS run on the deck?

  • How does anybody know if these are genuine, or Samsung Australia stock (vs grey import)

They were this price a few days ago shipped and sold by Amazon AU but didn't pull the trigger as I need quite a few and but not for a while… So waiting.

    • If it's being sold by Amazon AU, you could go price match/beat.

    $49.95 @PCBYTE. Free C&C at NSW

    • 100%, but I couldn't be f'ed driving there. I'm banking on Amazon matching this price.

Plus I need to bring my Amazon gift card balance down ;-)

      • They're basically matching the price now if you include the 10$ shipping. Not sure if they'll match a pre-shipping price.

Potentially can get Officeworks or The Good Guys or JB Hi-Fi to price match https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/765432 - $49.95

    • +1

I have always had problems getting any of those companies to price match any kind of significant discount.

    • Officework will price beat + cost of shipping.

I bought one of these last night but canceled when I saw it was a third party seller. For most things I don't care but cards like these I'd rather not risk it.

    • +3

While they do have good ratings for a 3rd party, I just wouldn't trust them (sorry Petter) for something like an SD card. A bit too easy to fake and can be a bit of a hassle testing and working out of it's legit.

  • Just remember that according to car dealers there is a chip shortage causing the massive car price hikes, so this sd card at this price cannot possibly exist !

    • +1

It doesn't stop there, the chip shortage also extends to my local cafes and pubs.

    • It's possible that they aren't lying. Nand flash manufacturing is very different to micro controller chips manufacturing.

      • Nand flash manufacturing is very different to micro controller chips manufacturing

Not really. The definition of a microcontroller is "microprocessor with inbuilt nonvolatile memory" and in the vast majority of cases, that nonvolatile memory is NAND flash.

Only about half a dozen of the chip fabricators in the world know how to make NAND flash with long data storage life and a good number of erase/program cycles, and they're pretty much the same companies that make microcontrollers. There is only one that I can think of that doesn't make microcontrollers, and that is Micron.

Interestingly, how to make flash memory chips is a VERY tightly held trade secret. Which isn't so surprising, given how much money those companies make from flash memory.

3rd party and cheap memory card = bad news for me, pass.

    • to be fair, there are fakes of these micro sd cards (where they inflate the storage space)

  • +1

Just price matched with JB Hifi for $49.95

    • Price beaten more like it?

  • Would this be suitable for a dash cam?

  • 1tb $100 waiting room.
