  • This is a bargain.. I have the 7401VGP (lower end model) and they are excellent routers. Been using mine for well over 2 years now, does everything I need (ADSL2+, VoIP, Wireless).

I don't need one but if anyone is thinking of getting a modem and wireless router in one, these are the way to go.

  • hi broadbandgear, was waiting for your post as time to move on from 2 device to one :-). Can you tell me is this device support multiple VOIP profile (if so how many voip profile can be configured)?. Also can i upload billion 7402 firmware on this?.

    • For more information check - http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc/hardware/?action=h_view&model_…

However regarding the use of multiple VoIP profiles, you can have up to 10 different providers registered and multiple PSTN/VoIP dial plans.

http://www.opennw.com/products/voip/824rlw_download.php indicates you can upgrade the firmware to 5.53, however I don't know if newer Billion firmware will work on it. There are a lot of threads on WP discussing the OPEN Networks equipment so you might find that useful.

      • Excellent, thanks Cyssero/broadbandgear. I already looked at whirlpool - but no where i can see that with open's firmware multiple voip profile is supported. That is why i asked 2nd question of moving to billion. Thanks for the info. Time to move on from linksys-billion combo to all-in-one 824RLW and keep open's firmware for a year :-).

    • Hi,

what cyssero is correct with the profiles.

You can put the billion firmware on it. I'm not going to say how etc, but easy enough to find.

Be wary that putting the Billion Firmware on may void warranty.

Open 5.53 is Billions 5.54 equivelent.

      Cheers

  • hey dudes what do u think about the whole 'refurbished' thing? im a little concerned about it…any thoughts? i guess its got a 12 month warranty anyway

    • I'm hazarding a guess that "refurbished" means that someone's bought it, tried to flash it with the Billion firmware, cocked it up, and returned it to the shop. They've probably then taken to it with a JTAG cable and recovered the modem to its former glory. If this was the case then I'd totally be buying a second one. I've got an 824RLW 4 port atm (which I bought from broadbandgear when they last had one for around $130 on ozbargain) and I absolutely love it.

      • I'm hoping bad firmware flashes is all it is. I bought one from Zazz, and so far all good.
But having a large number of refurbished units for sale always makes me worry just a bit..

        • Basically it was a returned Order. So we have them back and refurbished them.

  • Does this 3 port version support T38 fax over ip?

    • Unfortunately, no.

  • Big deal, got a brand new one from Zazz a few months ago for $74.95 + 9.90 postage.

    • I thought I'd seen them on there for even cheaper more recently..or maybe that was a different model. Pretty sure it was the same though. Either way, it was a good enough price there I was upset I missed it.

    • Zazz did have the 824RLW 3 port for $74.90 plus 10 bucks for shipping back in August. Was spewing I missed it.
