Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 3 April 2023
From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including Feb 28 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. But you can ask a CSR to use the starter kit as a recharge. I think technically the service is activated on a new number and then your existing number/account is migrated across. The outcome is basically the same. Voicemail greeting needs to be recorded again.

    • Nope. Shouldn’t have to.

  • I'm already with boost and bought this starter kit. Can someone suggest a cheap SIM card with other operator to port out and then port back in with boost.

    • Why not just contact a CSR for them to do the transfer?

      • Reading the comments, it seems they have made it difficult to do the transfer.

      • Does it work 100% of the time?
Don't want to stuck with $200 kit I can't use because I am existing customer.

        • Alternative you can get a SIM and port out and back in. That will always work.

          • @sween64: Do they have that condition that you have to be out of their network for 30 days to be considered a "new customer"?

    • Optus flex eSIM free 7 days

  • I tried to have online chat with Boost to use the Starter SIM to recharge my current plan. 2 agents stated that I need to activate the new SIM first and then do the transfer and I need to put the new SIM in replace my current SIM in my phone in order to 'recharge' my 365-day plan. Any recent success in getting the recharge without swapping to the new SIM? Thanks

    • I had to swap to the new SIM. Fortunately the CSR activated it for me though.

  • +3

This is my chat with Boost chat about transferring my existing boost mobile number to the new sim-
We do apologize Mr X but this is a one time process. The system will be able to detect and see this process the next time that you try to request this kind of process.

Boost system had a recent update that it will now detect if you have done this kind of process to recharge your Boost phone number on the past.

The Boost system will automatically reject this kind of process the next time you request this kind of process Mr X

If you want to use the Boost sim with the same phone number, yes that would be one option or you can just recharge your current Boost sim by using the following

    1) My Boost Mobile App
    2) Online recharge in the Boost website
    3) Dial #111#
    4) Recharge vouchers.

    • I got that too, but at the end they added:

But here's what I'll do as a one time courtesy, Mr X

I understand that you have already purchased a sim kit. I will help you use this new sim kit now. Moving forward, ensure to recharge with the options provided. Can I have the new Sim serial number for the Boost sim.

  • Hi al!,
Have tried to recharge with $300 pre-paid sim. Tried to use the chat box but the sale rep advised to call the centre because Boost have changed the security policy. Finally able to get it done!!
