                • @ChillBro: Yeah I am. I guess if you aren't a Prime member and have never ordered anything that you may not see that section maybe.

                  • @AustriaBargain: I'm definitely a member and have been for years. Guess it's because I'm using a 'free' membership from Telstra.

                  • +1

@AustriaBargain: I am a member have ordered many items and watched plenty, I also don't get that section.

                    • @gromit: Maybe you haven't ordered much stuff or watched much stuff so it is not visible to you, so you don't think to yourself "hmmm, I'm not really getting much value out of my membership, I probably shouldn't renew".

                      • @AustriaBargain: maybe, probably a few dozen orders a year, but would have watched a lot.

              • +2

@AustriaBargain: Not there for me either and I've been a prime member for like 10 years.

    • Wow!

  • Yeesh, that's a steep hike.

  • Steep hike = ordering more <$5 craps with prime shipping

Amazon used to be filled with bargains, now they're few and far between. Pricing is pretty average now. I'll probably still continue, but I don't shop there much at all anymore.

    • Agree with this

    • +8

Even if there aren't as many bargains, the convenience of free delivery for pretty much everything at the same price or slightly cheaper than you'd pay at retail makes it worth it IMO.

  • +3

so i managed to extend to from the 15th of june, by going onto my telstra points and claiming a 12 month prime membership for points, was emailed a code and it extended it till 2024, fairly simple that way hopefully there's other ways without telstra !

    • Thanks for sharing this idea, have just done the same!

    • +1

I’ve been trying to redeem Telstra points since last year. Check out on any item throws 404 error and always has. Over 100,000 useless points. How did you manage to redeem?

        • +1

Thanks. I ran into a little bit of trouble. The Telstra website doesn't work properly with the Safari browser, so I used Firefox (on MacOS). When I went to redeem the voucher through the email link (which opened the Amazon website in Safari), it wasn't accepted. However, chatting with Amazon Customer Service, I was recommended to use the same browser that I used to get the voucher. I did that, and it worked perfectly.

I reckon that's pretty good use for Telstra points.

    • do you know if you can you extend for more than 12 months? e.g. 24 months

      • Yep, my expiry date is Nov 2025

  • +8

    $59.99 was exceptional good value
$79.99 is still cheap for whats included

    • -1

Check US…. We've got it made still I believe.

      • +3

The US has a wider variety of products to chose from, more likely to buy, more likely to use, more likely to benefit - hence the higher price.

I found Amazon had better service a year or two ago. I could order an item before midnight and like clockwork it would arrive at my door at 11.00am. Now most items will take two days to reach me even when they are local which can be seen from the tracking, whereas before i would even get my sydney/melb packages next day. I am in flex metro area.

    • +1

Yeah I noticed a few years ago I could order something and it would arrive less than 24 hours later, sometimes less than 12. I have moved since then though so maybe it's just my area.

    • +1

Still the same for me. For many items it still gives me the option to order by midnight tonight for a tomorrow delivery.

It totally depends if your item is located interstate or not.

    • That's why you need to pay more for that level of service you received a year or two ago.

    • I've found it to be getting better and better. I'm ordering things now and they're being delivered next day now where that wasn't even the case 12 months ago. Lately I've been getting things delivered days before the listed delivery date on amazon.

  • Damn. I'll be upgrading some more accounts to Prime

  • +1

Had been thinking about whether was worth renewing if they increased the price. Being in WA delivery times aren't great as most stuff is coming from eastern states warehouse by parcel post, taking 1 to 2 weeks.

Looks like I'll get in another year at current price though.

  • +3

If only the Turkey membership worked in Aus.

    https://www.aboutamazon.eu/news/press-lounge/amazon-prime-is…

  • I pay monthly, I just switched to yearly. It refunded me $2.
    So charged $59

I had 28 packages, I do order over $39 often tho so I'm unsure ifs it's worth it 100% but not bad value. I'll see how I go over the next year, eBay is alot cheaper for alot of stuff so $10 for eBay plus is solid value too.

  • +7

Just extended by 12 months with a 12mth Telstra Prime membership for 24,000 points

Good til end Nov 2024 now

    • Just when I've been looking for something to spend my 24000 points on, love it thanks.

    • Good idea, I only have 21k points…need to find a way to get the other 3k before the end of June

      • Prepay your bill by $300 now

    • Thanks for this, wasn't aware it was an option! Was literally looking at what I could use my 40k+ telstra points on a few hours ago haha. Got another 12 months now!

  • +6

Still the best subscription service on the market (Prime that is, not prime video). Not happy it's increasing, but it's still an absolute bargain.

  • +3

Tempted to treat it like eBay now and let it lapse until I need another delivery. I have one pass now so who knows how long I can go without Prime.

So sick of everything going up. A 25% price increase? What's next year, $99? $109?

The kids don't watch anything on prime video, prime music is crap unless you pay extra, and the games are average compared to gamepass

    • +10

So sick of everything going up. A 25% price increase? What's next year, $99? $109?

It was always an introductory lower fee while they establish themselves in Australia. It is still cheaper than US Prime is US$139 - or ~AU$210.10

      • +4

This. People shouldn't complain. It was never going to last.

      • -4

Great so you're saying my predictions will be correct

I just ask a friend to order me non-urgent items on their plan. You could split membership costs between family and friends nearby.

Prime gaming is what makes it worth it for me.

I could probably live without prime deliveries but it is a nice to have.

Haven't been able to use much prime video since all the stuff I currently want is on binge Stan and Netflix.

Dropped Disney plus this year because it wasn't getting much usage after I watched all the star wars stuff.

Tbh I only kept prime video for lord of the rings but that felt like a flop so not sure what else to use it for now besides law and order which I'm over that too for now.

Still hope the annual will be cheap by the time I renew early next year but will have to reconsider when I look at renewing it again.

Mostly just buy soft drinks from Amazon.. Don't need any more pc hardware for now or headphones so maybe this time next year might drop prime but the gaming side is still somewhat worth it at $5-7 a month with usually 2-3 games that are nice to have per month.. $2-3 a game is still a bargain for me.

  • +1

I think its a good deal but don't like the domino effect of increases in the past months.

    Costco - $5
Telstra Prepaid - $300 to $320 very soon and will keep increasing.
    Amazon - $20

Knowing there is little repercussions from their point of view.

    Making you wonder what's next….

    • +4

All the big companies are jumping on the inflation bandwagon. Easy way for them to cynically boost profits and make us consumers poorer. The irony is that their behaviour is fuelling future price inflation.

      • +1

Correct. As do the sudden rise in Weekend Surcharges / Credit Card Surcharges / Public Holiday Surcharges.

Very inflationary but they already know they can get away with it.

  • I was considering cancelling and just renewing it for a month if needed, as I usually only use it for delivery when I know I'll be WFH and need something soon. (and I claim the free games monthly, still haven't played them.. haha)

I've had a lot of issues recently where I will get calls from the person delivering, then once instructed I'll even meet them at the door (as I will be home), they ghost me until either there was an unexpected delay until a couple days later/no update/listed as delivered when it wasn't.

    This makes my decision easier!

  • +1

Me: $20 price increase!? This is an outrage!
Also me: oo save $300 due to price error? Okie dokie Jeff

  • Renewal date: 18th June 2023. Score!

  • +4

we need a turkey TRL hack but for aus. i want to pay $1 a month for AmznPrime

  • +5

Kogan First is $99 and Amazon Prime is $79 - just with this in mind, its still a good value at $79 (was a steal at $59).

  • +1

    Still cheap at $79.

In USA, Prime is US$139 or ~AU$210. But they also have Prime benefit with the Amazon branded CCs.

  • +3

Bugger, but still by far the best value service. Got it for Amazon Video, ended up getting sucked into their online store and buy tonnes of shit from there, absolutely love Amazon Music on all the Echo Dots and speakers and shit. Shame I can't be bothered using other launchers on the Steam Deck or else I'd use the monthly games too.

Edit: Found out how to do mine, I'll take the badge for being the only one regularly using Amazon Music.

    Past year:
15 Packages shipped for free with Prime Delivery
114 Movies and TV shows watched with Prime Video
5,197 Songs listened to with Amazon Music

  • Wonder if Gerry will renew his sub now :D

  • +4

No impact if you don't have Prime subscription. Just gotta spend the minimum and get free delivery.

  • Stupid question… If my prime renews on 25th January 2024, that means I will have to pay $80 doesn't it?

    • +1

      Yes

      • Does prime have like a membership card or something that you can redeem later ahah… Ah that sucks but oh well

  • So for yearly subscriber

    $59/12 = $4.92/month
    Increase to
    $79/12 = $6.58/month

  • Anyone know if they will change the minimum spend $39 to get free shipping without Prime. I’m guessing that will be raised too

  • Yes already cancelled & left message .. if it was only 5 or 10 extra i wud have kept it..

    • They haven’t increased yet though

      • Ya i know but even if u cancel u have ur leftover days watever it is schedule for renewal so u can use ur prime till then

  • +2

Have anybody experience a delivery delay from Amazon on prime members. It normally get deliver next day but now it took a week.

    • -2

      Move house

    • +2

Most deliveries have been slow for me in WA for around 6 months. Before that would get most orders within a couple of days, now it's usually 2 weeks and sometimes 3.

    • From what I have seen Amazon started favouring other carriers like Aramex for Prime delivery in a lot of places instead of Express Australia Post, night and day difference even if Express service is no longer next day delivery for the most part.

  • +1

If i accept the 3 months free with the Mastercard offer, can i buy the annual Prime after accepting so that it will tack on after the 3 free months end or do i need to wait for the 3 months to end before buying prime

    • I'm interested in this as well. I have been holding off on the M/C offer which doesn't end for a while yet, wanting the 3 months free. I guess that won't change anyway.

      • I found out they charge you the newer rate because the renewal won't charge till the end of the 3 months which will be past June by then

  • My next annual renewal will thankfully be $59 - will likely still be worth it for me at $79.

  • I have this

On 30 May 2023 you will change your plan to: Annual AUD$ 59.00

  • Can you skip past it by buying an annual membership before then new price increase ? Then you could still pay for one year of prime at the old price ?

    • yes

      • How?

        • +2

buy an annual membership now while the price is low

  • Lucky for me as my prime renews end of May, just enough to beat the increase.

  • I gotta say, I do love getting same day shipping through Amazon Prime. Still amazes me every time it works.

  • $79.99 works out $6.66 per month. I think this is still good value considering this is like the cost of a cup of cuppa. You get free shipping on all deliveries, and free returns if you really have to, pretty good deals on some stuff from time to time, free movies/series (some of which are not bad)…so yes i will be staying.

  • -1

I just keep making new trial accounts

  • +1

I won't stop my service. Prime is essential to me, just like my phone plan. All the money I save from not owning or maintaining a car and fuel, I can throw at Amazon for next day delivery on most things I need. I also have Spotify, Netflix, Disney+.
