Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 3 April 2023
From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including Feb 28 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. But you can ask a CSR to use the starter kit as a recharge. I think technically the service is activated on a new number and then your existing number/account is migrated across. The outcome is basically the same. Voicemail greeting needs to be recorded again.

Enjoy!

    I can eat again now!

    • What do you eat ?

      • +1

        Aldi 2 minute noodles.

        • Those make you a 2 minute noodle ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

          • @Royale with cheese: Eating/drinking soy products and watching The Project or Q&A has the same effect.

  • More than $2, I'll take it.

    • I'm not get up unless it's $5 or more

      • I'm down to my last sim and didn't want to buy the previous deal for no profit.

  • Is this the start of an upturn in the profit curve?

    • +3

Usually goes up slowly from $2 to $4-5 then a break and start again

  • Bought one, thanks

Got cashrewards tracking confirmation in several seconds,

  • Just got one and tracked. It is tempting to get another one for my spare phone since they cost nothing.

    • +2

These are handy if you've got a dual sim phone too.

  • -2

FYI this needs to be activated by tomorrow 8/5/2023 to claim the extra 20gb

    • You wont get it in a day

    • +1

Ignore it as it will be extended again. Sometimes it may even be extra 25GB.

    • +2

This is not the case. Boost have rolling deals with rolling dates. So long as you buy within the specified sale timeframe, you get the bonus data. I confirmed this via chat.

  • Do people take full advantage of these cashback offers for simcards and change simcards each month? How much of a pain is it to transfer number to the new SIM each time?

    • +5

It is about dedication and habit development in the beginning. It'll be the norm once you get used to it later.

      • You make it sound like some kind of addiction.

        • +1

Sir, this is a Wendy's an OzBargain.

I bought a cheap year plan for main number and use these to top up data in dual sim phone. Works well for me :)

      • Who is the other cheap provider we can switch between Boost and them every month?

        • +1

Not sure. I don't use it like that because it's too much hassle for me. If you find out though make sure to post it here for others

          • +1

@Chocobros: Sure. I have friend coming for 3 months. Just thinking if I switch or pay Boost for 2nd and 3rd months.

            • +1

@amsaini15: If they don't need much data, catch mobile has 90 days plan with 20GB for $21.

        • Not Kogan as it has increased the price of the first 30 day plan this month. Maybe Lebara in the supermarket if keep the number.

Vodafone still allows a $40 SP to be used for 365 days ($30 SP for 180 days) with limited inclusion, suitable for the main number.

          • @Neoika: I can't find any relevant information. Could you explain how to get this 365 days plan?

        • +1

          It’s in your name(almost)

          Amaysim.

        • Why not just get a new number ?

      • Do you have any issues when you are using your main number to make/receive phone calls? As in, does your mobile data from your second sim work? I am using an eSIM and a physical SIM on my Fold 2, and I can't use data on one sim while on a call with the other. It is very frustrating. There is not even a way to switch SIMs mid call, so I have to hang up first before my data works again.
So I was very curious if you have the same issue or not. Maybe I just have to change some settings?

        • @Musabbir99 yes I have experienced this. I have data in my main sim and when that is selected as data sim and call sim I can access data whilst on call. Unfortunately when main sim is calls and other sim is data then it is difficult and I experience the same as you.

I don't think there is a work around. For me the savings make this small Inconvenience acceptable but it might not be for you.

      • Which cheap yearly plan did you go with?

        • Kogan 365 small. Think it was 120gb and ended up costing me $79 for the year. For some reason Vodafone/ kogan network works best for me in rural areas so worked out very well.

Do people take full advantage of these cashback offers for simcards and change simcards each month?

Yes every month, 5min work for FREE monthly mobile.

      • Let's not confuse 28 days with a month though.

        • +1

          …Free yearly* mobile

        • Tell that to Miss February. 😂

    • +1

I have a dual sim phone and just use the sim for data. No need to change your number. But I wouldn't be doing it if I had to keep changing my number every month would be a nightmare.

      • Nice! That sounds totally manageable. Might look into doing this.

    • +2

I don't port. I have a permanent number with Amaysim which costs $15 per year to keep active and is the number I give people for my incoming calls. You can do the same with Aldi $5 SIMs.

I make outgoing calls on whatever number these SIMs give.

Government and business answer every number anyway, and if friends/family refuse to answer my new unknown number, I either just speak to them next time I see them or send an SMS before calling: "It's FP about to phone you." It doesn't take long to train everyone so the world revolves around you as it should.

    • I keep my primary number on a 12 month sim & activate these with new numbers to use for mobile data. Its not worth transferring my primary number from sim to sim every month.

    • I have done this before. People often recommend you don't do it with your main number so you don't loose it and all that. I guess that might happen (aka if you cancel before transferring) but I was always careful to never tell anyone I'm porting out.

For me it was fine enough, but I don't do it anymore. I just had to set reminders a week or two out from renewal so I'd have another one ready to go.

There were a few 3 month plans along the way that worked out cheap so that helped it not feel like I was doing it every month. That said with expiry dates and such I was able to have 1 or two ready to go anyway.

I now do it solely for data (2nd Sim) when travelling for work. There's usually some really good intro data deals around.

  • Thank you

  • How do you prevent "something went wrong. we’re unable to process your request at this time." problem when you register? I got this error three times when I tried to activate the sim card. The solution is to bug the live chat and ask them to activate my sim cards manually

    • Yes only that way you can activate
      Because too many activate before

      • Last time when i got this error and need to contact them to activate, I asked them was there anything blocked with my account that i couldn't activate myself, they said nothing wrong with the account. They said could be due to maintenance work in backend - yes, right, maintenance for over 3 consecutive days?

        • +2

Just reps fobbing you off, pretending they know the answer when they really don't.

    • +1

You can't its either you have too many sims under your account or your ID. Only way is to do it through chat, its ok not too big of a hassle sometimes it can take like 5 minutes other times the rep just takes their sweet time and takes 15 minutes or more……

      • You can get the rep to deactivate the other sims under your account so that you wouldn't have this problem the next time you're activating another sim.

      • Reps are slow, have taken 30mins for me before…

    • I just had this problem myself in Chrome. I switched to Firefox, disabled all plugins/extensions, then activation worked.

  • HOOOOOLD!!!

  • Ordered one earlier today with $10 cashback =(

  • +1

Can people share some of the replies they give the reps, when they ask why you're activating a new SIM instead of recharging one from last month?

    • +1

Family coming to visit, they were happy with this when I activated 9 at once I got from a prior cashback deal.

    • +1

I just say that number is no longer in use… But not sure why they even ask.

      • +2

To try to guilt you into recharging. Some people cave in the face of confrontation. Simply asking a question results in increased sales. Human beings are incredibly fickle things that are statistically predictable.

    • +3

I want a new number as the current one got spammed

      or I want the deal

  • Is anyone else having issue when checking out? I get the message ‘sorry, something went wrong’. Not sure if it’s because I’m overseas at the moment.

    • +1

I was able to order 2 but got the same error on my 3rd order. I am in Australia. I might try it again later as I need 3 for our overseas visitor in June.

UPDATE: I restarted my computer and place the order for the 3rd sim, and it went through.

  • 4 clicked history, but only 2 tracked, 2 didn't
    cashrewards…..

  • I last used one of these in november 2022. At the time i had 4 active boost sims on my name. Will i be able to register another?

  • Or not?

  • If I buy two SIMs in two transactions, will I earn $4.20 Profit??

    • Yes. You get $2.10 cashback per sim provided they are bought separately and each are activated within 30 days of purchase.

  • +1

    fyi "Expires: May 9, 2023, 9:00:00 AM"

    • Should I stock up before it expires? Hmm….

  • Got shafted on my cashback last time… only 6$ for the 15$ sim, mind you the first time sign up bonuses were easily over 30$

  • Bought one, tracked immediately, job's a good one. I'll look to stock up on higher profit deals later in the month hopefully.

  • Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? - The comment you tagged was from last year.

My wife is currently overseas and she is not receiving incoming SMS. Not sure if Boost has changed the way it works or some tech issue

    Message from Boost rep :
ncoming SMS will not work if International Roaming Pack is not added on a Boost mobile service while overseas.

  • just wondering if any1 has a "real" experience of getting the cashback approved activating the new starter pack but on an existing number? thanks in advance.
