The 39wh battery will not get you much mileage on an Intel 12th gen CPU

  • Looking for something in this budget for the MIL - she just needs something for light browsing/YouTube/document editing etc..

Saw this thread - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/771356 and don't know whether to get the linked Fujitsu 2 in 1 for ~$430 or whether need to spend double to future proof for something more modern like this?

    Anyone able to advise?

      How techy are you?

MIL spec machines are all about the software configuration

If you set her up with Ubuntu Linux + Firefox + LibreOffice + access to Office/Google Apps through the browser, <$500 is more than enough for a quality refurb plus new battery

Her friends will also be asking why her laptop doesn't lock up with Windows updates all the time as well

Techy enough to get that all working, thanks for the suggestion - I haven't had to stay up to date with hardware so not sure how painful a 5 year old laptop would be to use nowadays!

That said, I might have an uphill battle to convince the MIL to re-learn a new OS!

Setup KDE with one of the Windows themes, she will pick it up in no time

Browser + web apps perform exactly like Windows

    Lenovo ThinkPad E15 Gen 4 15.6" Laptop: AMD Ryzen 5 5625U, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Windows 11 Home $888 Delivered @ Lenovo

    • The Thinkpad. But the MSI is a different spec that is appealing for other people.

      • I'm after its general usage to a high school student.

        • If they don't mind the weight then the Thinkpad 100%.

        • A smaller screen I think, not the 15.4inch.
Go for a 14inch with long battery life so the can use it all school day without charging.

          • @PVA: Cool, thanks for your input.
Could you please share direct link of that small screen size one?

            • +1

@bluespider: The one listed here is 14inch.

Also, this is a great deal, but a bit more https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/772695

My son had a MacBook Air at school years back. I don’t like apple laptops myself but I have to say it was perfect for school. Aluminium which made it strong to handle crashing around and the battery life lasted all day.
