100,000 Bonus Flybuys Points When You Access $500 or More Credit within 3 Months ($99 Fee, Save $100) @ Citi Ready Credit

350

Received an email from Citibank for a ready credit offer - as usual this may be targeted. (This may not be targeted, if using the link below, as it’s a separate product from a citibank credit card)

The offer is 100,000 flybuys points with the following conditions:

$99 establishment fee
6.9% interest
Access above $500 to obtain the 100,000 flybuys points.
3 months minimum to be eligible for the Flybuys points

Roughly a $107 spend for $500 in flybuys points, if directly converting to a gift card and full repayment made at month 3. May have additional value through other rewards.

EDIT: Made a mistake on the interest. It’s actually 6.9% PA. Which will reduce the cost to around $107. The 20.5% applies after the interest offer period expires.

request a balance transfer of $500 or more within 3 months from account approval

what does this mean? balance transfer from other credit card, to city ready credit? im confused

I believe citi ready credit is a different product, separate from a credit card. A personal loan essentially. I’ve just applied, and you select an option to do a balance transfer to a bank account. It’s entirely possible that this ISNT targeted too, if you apply via the above link in the description.

And yes, I’d say a credit check will be forthcoming.

      • So the amount requested is not taken from your Citibank credit limit?
Also, the link won't let me go below $5k. How did you apply for $500 only?

        • The minimum “credit limit” you need to apply for is $5k, but you request the balance transfer of $500 on the next screen, and put in your banking details. There doesn’t appear to be any link between this product and your credit card, as they are 2 different products.

The money won't go into your bank account until you request it to be transfered.

  • To the new customer only ?

Converts to 50,000 Velocity Points, which interests me more than Flybuys points

  • +2

How much is 100,000 flybuys worth compared to 50,000 velocity points

    • Velocity for business flights can be worth thousands

  • Heyo, i dont understand financial terms, can some tell me what balance transfer means here to be eligible for 100k flybuys

    • +1

Citi Ready Credit is a line of credit, otherwise know as a loan. You apply for a $500 loan and once it is approved, you immediately transfer the $500 into your bank account and the loan interest starts accruing at 6.9% pa.
Within 6 weeks Citibank will ask by email for your Flybuys membership number. Reply back immediately (or within 30 days of the email otherwise you forfeit the 100K points).
"The Flybuys points will be credited to your Flybuys account within 8 weeks from the date we receive your Flybuys membership number provided your Citi Ready Credit account is open and in good standing and your balance transfer has not been repaid in full."
Once the flypoints are received, payoff the loan and close it.

      • If you hold it for 3 months - the interest of $500 would be around $8.65

        • Can't you just pay back $400 and leave $100 for the flybuys points to come across?

          • @nightelves: why stop at $100? not $10 or $1?

Honestly, the point of doing this is to get bonus points.. if the cost of interest is $8.. surely the risk of potentially failing criteria doesn't outweigh the few dollars you'd save doing this.

            • @Maestrok: In the earlier version of the similar offer (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/728384), I applied for $10K and paid $9.8K back the next day as someone on Australian Frequent Flyer forum thinks Citi might close the loan if the amount owing is less than $200, before any bonus points arrive.

              • @z28: Will citi do the credit check for this ?

              • @z28: I've got it down to $100 from the last deal where they offered 150k Velocity points for a $2k loan.

      • Thanks 107$ makes sense now.

      • @BellaWii
        almost correct.
One applies a minimum of $5000 loan and immediately request a transfer for minimum of $500 to ones' bank account to qualify.
Have just read your comment below, and yes would be worthwhile to apply an FB card.

        • I received the email from Citibank with the $500 line of credit offer. Waiting to pay off my Citibank Prestige card next week before applying. Thanks for the FB card advice, guess I have to get it.

  • +1

Thanks for posting. Got an email offer, thought it looked VG and it is. Easy money I.e. points.

  • I don't have Flybuys membership, can I give my wife's membership number instead?

    • +1

Just apply one. It takes 5 minutes.

  • So you actually apply for 5k line of credit. Then transfer $500 to your own bank account. Do we know if the interests are charged on the 5k line of credit or the $500 that is transferred to own bank account?

    • Interest is only charged on what you transfer out.

      • Only downside is the credit check as line of credit is like a personal loan.

        • are personal loans considered worse than credit cards?

  • Got the email. Applied. Thanks Citi for helping with cost of living pressures ;)

    • approved
applied for $500 redraw in application so will see how quick that shows up and set a 3 month reminder to pay it

Wonder how easy the line of credit account will be to close after that

  • Got rejected straight away :(
Have 2 credit cards with Citi, and 2 more with NAB being the issuer. Have had the last Citi one issued about a month ago.

P.S. Never received an email from Citi. Got one from Flybuys.

    • Did you apply for $500 or $5K?

      • Specified $5k as credit limit

  • Anyone been approved as yet?

  • +1

Yep, applied last night, approved today

    • Once its approved, how to do the balance transfer to get qualified? pls share the steps if possible

      • No idea.
I entered in the balance transfer request during the application, but haven't seen it yet.

        • still waiting on the card to arrive to activate account, which based on email is when the balance transfer is activated

      • +1

In the letter along the card, there is an instruction there (phone number to call) to authorise this introductory offer. You can then confirm that you got the 6.9% interest and 100k flybuys bonus points. They will also do balance transfer for you.

        • Found my debit card in the mailbox tonight, activated it and setup a $500 transfer for tomorrow. Then I read your comment about calling them to authorise the introductory offer. Thought that will be a better approach, to call them and let Citibank confirm the offer and process the transfer. So cancelled the payment and will give them a call tomorrow.

          • @BellaWii: If you entered the funds transfer details in the application it should process automatically the next business day

Mine did, I didn't need to action anything, it just showed up in the transaction list as pending the following day after I activated the card.

            • +1

@SBOB: Yeah, I didn't setup the funds transfer during the application process. Hopefully the phone queue won't be too long.

              • @BellaWii: Took 20 mins on the phone this morning to setup the introductory balance transfer offer and confirm the $99 fee and 100K flybuy points.

  • I had checked with Citibank live chat before applying, they are saying 100k flybuys bonus points is applicable for selected customer who received the email.

but later they said I may be eligible if apply via offer link not the normal link. Anyone have any inputs on this.

    • I was thinking this as well - maybe it was for selected customers only as my wife received an email from Citibank as she has a CC with them where as i do not.

But was looking at my Fly Buys Offers last night and found it there with a link to apply so i think it might be open to all…

    • +1

I know this is delayed reply, but I applied on Monday (using the link on this deal) and after submitting the required docs Tuesday, was approved later that day.

Gave them a call as I didnt get the welcome email and while confirming the details, I asked them about the Flybuys offer (as I couldnt do the balance transfer part of my application…didnt have the EFT details on hand) and the guy I spoke to confirmed that I will indeed get the 100k points so long as I call them to activate the card (as that is when I will need to do the balance transfer) and 6 weeks after (more or less), I will get an email asking for my Flybuys number and after replying to it, I need to wait up to 8 weeks then the points will get transferred to my Flybuys account.

  • I got approved … now will I be eligible for the 100k offer

  • +1

Keep in mind they mention this in the FAQ, for anyone else who may have recently got a Citi credit card:

If you already have another Citi branded unsecured credit product you must hold this account in good standing for 6 months before applying for another lending product such as a Citi Ready Credit.

    • I got the Prestige in March and got this Citi Ready Credit no problem

      • You mean they have approved your Ready Credit application? I got the email but I won't be 6 months until early June.

      • I got prestige in March too, but I got auto rejected on this Ready Credit. 🥲

        • I have prestige and just got this test credit approve as qell

          • +1

@dumkaze: Approved in Prestige in March and approved for Ready Credit as well.

  • Got my Citi Ready Credit application approved today, applied on Monday. Was totally wrong with the amount, had to apply for $5K credit not $500.

    • What documents you submitted?

      • 2 payslips

  • Is this another credit check on your file?

    • +1

      yes
unlikely to get a line of credit without a credit check.

  • Hi Guys, so just to get this straight, is this the best way to go about this? (need to make this clear as day for my small mind)

Got Approved for $5k with $500 Transfer during application through link provided.
    Wait 3 Months
Transfer back $500 - Cancel Loan

    thanks

    • +1

Wait for the email asking for your flybuy number, then wait till you get the points, then pay back the $500 and close the loan.

      • Will the $500 from during application be transferred automatically?
I asked for the $500 during application and put in bsb/account. I was approved, but when I look at the account it says no transfer is pending?

Edit: looks like will happen automatically after activating the card

        • +1

          Yep happens post activation. .

          • @SBOB: Any idea how long post activation the transfer will be taken out?
I have activated my card yesterday, but no transfer yet (loan account is showing as $5000 available)

  • +3

Got a $50 cashback offer with my Citi Lending Account today

    • Is that the one with a $300 spend? Do you know if the spend requirement is just using the card as a debit/credit card for purchases? Or can we just do a balance transfer?

      • similar question, but defnitely excludes balance transfers

"spend $300 or more on Retail Purchases and Cash Advances. Excludes Balance Transfers, refunds, Chargebacks, and Special Promotions."

I'm assuming I can therefore use it for any CC based purchase, like paying bills, which would fall under 'retail purchases' :/

    • +1

Be mindful that for some it starts in the future:

      1. To be eligible to receive $50 cashback, you must register for this offer by 11.59pm AEST on 2 July 2023 receive confirmation that you have successfully registered for this offer via the linked landing page as well as confirmation email, and spend $300 or more on Retail Purchases and Cash Advances from 12:01AM AEST 1 July 2023 to 11:59PM AEST 31 August 2023 (Promotion Period). Excludes Balance Transfers, refunds, Chargebacks, and Special Promotions. The cashback amount will be credited into your account within 10 weeks from the end of the Promotion Period providing your Account is open and in good standing. Cashback will reduce the outstanding balance of your Account but will not count towards yo
  • Does anyone know if this affects credit rating? I have been told cash withdrawals and personal loans can slightly affect credit rating. I think that also needs to be factored into this deal.

    • Mine went up.
I applied for this loan and already had the premier and prestige.
Checked my score, saw it was up and then applied and got the Kogan credit card.

  • I recently did this offer,
    - it took about 1 month before I received the e-mail asking for my flybuys number for the bonus points.
    - after filling out the form, it then says it can take up to a further 8 weeks for the points to get credited to the flybuys account.

    • +2

Just received the email today as well. Now will wait for the bonus points.

    • I was approved on 1 June, $500 was transferred roughly 1 week ago and just got email to supply Flybuys this morning (same comment about the 8 weeks for the Flybuys to be credited).
Update: just got an sms too:

Hi. You are on your way to being eligible to receive your Flybuys bonus points. Please check the email we sent requesting your member number. Visit us at citibank.com.au/contactus for any questions you have.

    • Also got the email and sms today. $500 was transferred on 25/5.

  • Anyone take up the $50 voucher by spending $350 at a retail store?

    • where is this? I checked my offers and don't see it.
      Maybe it's targeted

    • Did you get an email, could you share subject or part of content?
I checked but don't immediately see another offer.

  • It was in the app

  • Anyone got the flybuys points yet? Just about to put in the application

  • Hi everyone

I just checked their website, I think they have extended this offer to 26 July 2023.

  • Anyone received their points?

  • hi
Just activated my card last week, does anyone know how long it takes from here to receive FB email?
And what does this email look like? is it a separate email asking you to provide your FB details? I've only received welcome letters so far…

And further to that, do you update your FB details within the Citi mobile app?

sry for the many questions :)

  • At what point are we suppose to pay off the balance? I just got a txt alerting me I need to make a minimum repayment soon. still have the $500 balance due.
I did get the text for providing FB successfully, but as yet have yet to have received the points.

    many thanks

    • +2

Need to make at least minimum repayments per month, to avoid late fees. It should say on the statement. You can pay more if you want. Just don’t pay it back fully before receiving the points.

      • gotcha! thanks.

        paid the minimum.

      • What if the minimum repayment is the exact amount to close the balance?

        • nightelves - that is what has happened to me. Minimum payable $6.82 and balance transfer owing is $6.80, the 2 cents being interest. I called - pay it and no points. Don’t pay it and fee of $30 plus any interest will be charged. Operator took notes and said those amounts will be reversed and I will still qualify if balance still not paid off within the 8 weeks. I am at a loss to either trust the operator or do another balance transfer as 3 months not up yet.

          • @chrisharry53: Is it possible to make a few spend on the debit card therefore extending the repayment?

            • @nightelves: Possibly, better get it out of the drawer lol. Or do a BPAY payment, etc.

            • @nightelves: I think it is better to do balance transfer than do a purchase using the card. I used the card to avail the $50 cashback when spending $300 and I got a different interest rate for that which is higher than the promotion rate.

              • @Ernestpogi: Is the $50 instant cashback with any $300 purchase?

              • @Ernestpogi: Yes, the high rate applies but I will only do a minimal purchase or payment of $10 or so. If statement shows no balance transfer amount outstanding I will still have time to do another $500 balance transfer.

  • Has anyone got the 100k Flybuys points yet?

    • We're all waiting for it. They're taking their sweet time.
