They will die off soon. Few more years.

        • +3

Dw, few more years of Labor gov and we'll all freeze and starve to death.

          • +2

@pharcyde: My memory is not what it used to be but I believe after the last labor government the entire earth was destroyed.

            • @PiratePete1911: It was. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt which was the style at the time.

    (profanity) NSW.

    Inflation through the roof.
    Hand out more free money.
Great idea, what could go wrong.

Why are people so addicted to short term "free" money that actually makes life worse for them.

    • -2

Its not a cash handout… it is free electricity to the value of whatever you are entitled to.

      $440 or $500 etc

      • +10

Yeh, and what do you think happens to the $400 you were going to use to pay your electricity? It doesn't just vanish into thin air, it's going to get spent into the economy on stupid shit hence contributing to inflation.

    • +1

Probably just sick of seeing the rich taking all the "free" money without a care of what it does to the economy.

  • +4

it is so funny some of you guys truly think such a little amount like 400 dollars will boost inflation where the median income per capita is 90K.

    • +1

      A) median income is not $90k
      B) any free money is a bad thing at this point. It's at this point because so much money was created and thrown around.

      • +1

The median income for a FT worker is $84,628 (based on 2021 ABS data)

        • -1

          A) no one mentioned full time
          B) please link to source. I can only mean, not median, from and data. Maybe I didn't look hard enough.

        • In places like Perth or Sydney it's more like $90k median for full timers, maybe that's the figure baldur is citing.

  • +2

Thanks for another 25bps increase of the cash rate, love it.

    • Nonsense. This $400 handout won't even touch the sides of inflation.

  • +9

Can see why a lot of people are here in the comments section rather than being economists for the state or fed government

  • +3

WA - way ahead (with budget surplus and gifts)

    • +2

Yeah #1 always! They see us rolling they hating haha

  • +1

Not sure how government handouts (no matter how generous) classify as "deals"?

  • +4

    I love my State Daddy ❤️ ❤️❤️

    • +1

      Same lol

    • +1

      Username checks lol

  • +2

Federal government raises interest rate to promote saving and limit spending.. state government gives out $400 (yes, it's free money because that $400 can be used elsewhere) which gives people more purchasing power, increasing spending.

This isn't even a band aid solution. This is like taking a knife, making the wound bigger and giving people painkillers.

    • +1

By fed gov raising interest rates you mean the RBA raising the cash rate right? right!? (padme)

      • +2

From my point of view the Jedi WA Govt are evil!

      • Yeah but it doesn't sound so cohesive like that XD

  • +1

    Jealous - Q'landers get nothing 😭

  • -1

Well atleast our tax money is coming back in some form… Usually it's only the Centrelink druggos that get anything.

    • +5

Lol how the hell can centrelink recipients afford drugs. You talk out your ass mate… 90% of what you say centrelink druggos are normal people who can't afford food and a heap more are disabled that were kicked off dsp or didn't get it. People like you paint a few with the many.

    • +1

The vast vast majority of the money given out by the government does not go to Centrelink. It goes to welfare for the rich or pensions for your parents/grandparents depending how old you are.

  • Thanks Woodside. I mean the Western Australien government. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Key8y1yg2yQ

  • +2

NSW government even more generous - unless you receive welfare which most of us love to receive in NSW , you get didly squart
Punish the working people but reward those who don't work

    • +1

You get what you vote for!

      • Well tbf we didn't exactly have a lot of choice here lol

  • So we are all fine with our money being returned to us then the budget gets upset, then more tax and rinse and repeat! Government does not have any money it is our money! Ok.

  • In NSW we …. Not sure, think we get high house prices and over zealous policing. We have Pork Barilaro (retired) a national treasure worth $500 a household, in legacy funding allocations to LNP donators.

  • +1

Hope the other 7 comrades will follow suit!

  • +2

That was one good thing about living in WA. Electricity and Gas wasn't too expensive and the Government gave you your tax money back to offset the cost

  • +1

Meanwhile in QLD……(tumbleweed rolls across dimming cinematic frame until black)

    • The charity chasers in Rockhampton are ultra busy to terrorize the married clients.
Turn their power off, let them sit 7 days in the dark and then FORCE them to re establish a new account in a SINGLE name!!
Oh ye, work creation comrade style!

  • So what happens if a household has solar and their account is already in credit. Are they still eligible?

    • +3

      more credit for winter

    • +1

Yea, you just get more credit.

I have heard on ABC radio them talking about what these people can do with it, like redirect the money to charities electricity account. At the moment, it will just sit there indefinitely.

  • +3

    Phew! Just in time!
My last bill I had to actually PAY $27.31! With my solar buy-back and Pensioner rebate this’ll see me well into 2024!

  • Daddy Marky pulling through.

    • Lived in Perth and it was great. But considering that they pulled more revenue from your car rego than mining.

It could be a 1000x better state if you could pull more cash in.

      • Federals would find a way to funnel WA income to QLD or NT or something like they do with GST.

  • How much per kw charged in eastern state?

  • cash to burrrrrn, baby!

    • +1

Yep, Gov knows most of the week to week people will hand it straight back in alcohol and gambling tax.

    • Only people getting centrelink payments are getting this money apparently, not all households.

  • +1

Throwing money doesn't solve anything, it's a bandaid fix where the wounds don't heal.

  • Be productive and get a job, there's work everywhere. This push for handouts and equity merely brings society down. No one can ever say that 'all these people want is an opportunity', nope that's gone. There's work everywhere, literally.

  • Just got my power bill for $175. (Single person household, no kids.)

Came back to this deal posted to see it's still in another 38 days. Guess next power bill I'll sigh a relief…

  • and i closed my account yesterday :(:(:(
