    How much cheaper can they get?

    • Same, still holding out for it to drop cheaper.

      • I've been watching and waiting for months but my current SSD just started failing so it's time for me. If @BROKENKEYBOARD is right, that would be a good price.

    • Hopefully they keep going lower than what a mechanical drive would cost.

    https://www.dramexchange.com/WeeklyResearch/Post/2/11645.htm…

    TrendForce’s latest research indicates that, as production cuts to DRAM and NAND Flash have not kept pace with weakening demand, the ASP of some products is expected to decline further in 2Q23. DRAM prices are projected to fall 13~18%; NAND Flash is expected to fall between 8~13%.

    Maybe $69-74 soon?

  • This versus Samsung 870 QVO for $69? Seems like everyone is discounting their SSDs, crazy times.

    • how does the 870 qvo compare?

        This one uses TLC vs QLC in the Samsung. From what I could see, TLC seems to be preferable as they are more durable and have higher write speeds. At least what I've heard, the spec sheets seem to say they're pretty similar on both these fronts.

        • Entire MX500 range has been shrinkflated to QLC

          If you are storing valuable data, pick one of these:

          Samsung 870 Evo
          WD Red
          Seagate FireCuda
          Kingston DC
          Intel D3 / Optane

            @Look Up:

            Entire MX500 range has been shrinkflated to QLC
            This is a hell of a claim. do you have a link for this?

              @senectus: The official product title for the MX500 range used to include “3D NAND TLC” by Crucial up until around a year or so ago. They’ve dropped advertising the TLC in the title everywhere now.

              Most online stores have updated the title to remove the TLC reference but I found an old online ad that hasn’t yet been updated:

              @senectus: The only drives confirmed to come with QLC are from AliExpress, which means there's a good chance they're fakes. If you're not buying from that cesspool, don't worry.

      If I was getting a QVO I'd get the 2TB model, less likely to drop into the slow speeds and when it does the slow speed is still twice as fast as the 1TB model slow speeds.

  • This suitable for storage for a Eufy Homebase 3 ?

      The 1TB model has an endurance rating of 360TB, so while it’s not the most ideal use for it, it’ll still last a fair while. Even then the TBW (terabytes written) rating in my experience is a guideline and not a hard limit. There’s ‘write amplification’ to take into account if you’re constantly writing data to a drive that’s got a lot of turnover however so the actual data written can be higher than what you’re storing in reality.

      To put it into perspective, I have 6x 4MP cameras that record continuously with H265 codec and each one averages about 1GB per hour for footage.

      624=144GB per day
      144
      365=52.56TB written per year

      I store everything on a 4TB volume and so I get roughly 28-30 days of footage (old clips get rolled over and overridden)
