Original Coupon Deal

For all the nerds who just bought a Surface Pro 5, here is a Surface Dock 2 (Model 1917), not to be confused with the old 1661 which is half the price, but also half as useful imo. If you're happy with 2x mini DP and no USB-C, then get that one.

Full specs: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/d/surface-dock-2/8qd908364sg…

$420 RRP is lol. I just impulse bought one because the price is not bad, and a genuine OEM charger prob costs more than this. I've used those USB hubs that always get posted here for 30 bucks, but this one is 199W and can go dual 4K and other shit. Surface Pro 5 only has 1x mini DP and 1x USB-A.

3 months warranty.

Compatibility:

Surface Pro 7+
Surface Pro 8
Surface Laptop Studio
Surface Laptop 4
Surface Laptop 5
Surface Book 3 (13.5" & 15")
Surface Laptop 3
Surface Pro 7
Surface Pro 9
Surface Pro 9 with 5G

Supports dual 4k monitors at 30Hz:
Surface Go 3
Surface Laptop Go
Surface Book 2
Surface Laptop 2
Surface Laptop
Surface Pro X
Surface Pro 6
Surface Pro (5th Gen)
Surface Go 2
Surface Go

Not compatible with:

Is this some kind of proprietary thunderbolt dock? Or does it just use USB-C?

    • USB-C. This is the new Surface Thunderbolt™ 4 Dock

      • +2

        It's a proprietary Surface dock, it's not USB-C ! I'm using one right now 😁

        • Sorry, I thought they meant TB output for video. Thanks for the clarification.

This is a proprietary dock and uses a 'Surface Connect' port to connect to Surface Pro or Surface Laptop.
The USB-C ports on the dock are only for connecting other devices.

  • Will this let me connect my Surface Laptop 4 to a 4K 144hz monitor?

    • Click the link in the post for full specs

  • There is a bug using usb-c to HDMI cables, use usb-c to DP or mDP which seem fine. Unless MS have finally patched it, but they haven't in 2 years last I heard.

Still present, can only use two monitors with DP not hdmi.
Also always had power issues with my official microsoft dock

  • They are crap. Workplace had them. They will not work well with some monitors in dual setup. Better get a usb/c after market ones like belkin.

  • Ordered one of the original model Surface Docks for $68 because I mainly needed another charger and figured some the price was right and some extra port options wouldn't hurt, Surface Dock 2 arrived today instead.
