Gaming drivers have improved
OpenVINO released so various AI models work
Linux video encode/decode support is only available with the older i915 driver. Support will not be added to the new Xe driver which means you cannot encode and game seamlessly

  • Haven't kept up with A770 prices, is this actually cheap?

  • +4

good option if you are fine with high power consumption when idling

40w idle is normal with these cards, apparently

for reference, AMD and NVIDIA idle around 5 to 10 watt. 6800 16gb I have idles at 5w

    • +1

mostly fixed back in March for single monitor users

      partly fixed for dual screen

work in progress for triple and quad setups :p

      • +2

as far as I know not fixed and can't be fixed? Intel provided instructions but it only works if you have the right options available in BIOS, and AFAIK no success for A770 (A750 has mixed success), but I am happy to be corrected if I am out of date on this

I have been following closely till I got 6800 with 16gb and lost interest

    • The 7900 XT and XTX have high idle power draw.
It was 100W+ at launch, not sure if it's gotten better since

      • +1

100w? lol! yeah, I am not excited about 7000 GPUs so far. will wait till 7700 7800 show up and market dust settles a little bit.

        • Computex can't come fast enough!

  • this or 4070?

    • +8

You mean this or half a 4070?

    • this or 4090? they are the same price after all

      • where is there a 4090 at that price?

        • +3

I'm sorry to get your hopes up, but it was a joke

  • Really hope Intel irons out issues with their GPU's so consumers have a third player in the game. Better for us.

    • +1

They have never developed drivers well so unless they poach some GeForce engineers, don't expect miracles

Battlemage will need to be an outstanding product at an outstanding price to survive a late 2023/2024 release

After Jacket Man and Lisa are finished with the early adopter fleecing, Intel will be walking into mid-tier mayhem with the 4060 Ti 16GB/4070 Super 16GB plus the 7700/7800 XT's

  • Would you say this is for Uber AV1 / Plex transcoding?

    • +1

For just AV1/transcoding support, get a cheaper A380 or A750 - same video engine

      • For that usage, Ampere NVENC would be even better (and cheaper).

  • Guess the only issue here is that the 6700XT is pretty much the same price.
